Eth0: unknown interface: No such device

Hi all
I know that this problem was being solved here, but I am still stuck.
During boot process I receive the message:
eth0: unknown interface: No such device
I have already configured /etc/rc.conf and module for Realtek Ethernet si also loaded.. I can see it in lsmod, so it's ok.
Configuration:
HP Compaq nc6120, 2.6.13-ARCH (default distriobution kernel)
Thanks a lot for help.

Hi
When I write lsmode I can see there module for ethernet realtek...something like eth1234 (i don't know name of module exactly because I am out of my linux box).So I think that there is no error.
I am still stuck with this problem ...:|

  • [SOLVED] wlan0: unknown interface: No such device

    Got this error today while trying to sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
    It's probably because of some package update... reinstalling didn't work, and it's not a hardware problem (it works with a livecd). Someone managed to fix this problem with rfkill, but it didn't do anything when I tried...
    Any ideas?

    Are you using archboot or linux 3.0?
    Archboot... kernel version is 2.6.39, testing isn't enabled
    Thank you for your cooperation. Have a nice day :-)

  • Siocsifaddr no such device

    So I just installed Arch, just the core and nothing else.
    Not sure what to say, I'm using an Asus M2V motherboard which has the Attansic L1 ehternet drivers.
    ifconfig -a produces everything seemingly fine, I've edited no files might I add. (except for making Tony the hostname in rc).
    When i try to restart the network (apart from the fact that it never actually starts in the first place) it just says
    *siocsifaddr no such device
    etch0 - unknown interface
    siocsifNETMASK no such device
    siocsifBRDADDR no such device
    etho interface no such device
    This is the rc.con networking section.
    lo" 127.0.0.1"
    eth0="eth0 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.158.0.255"
    INTERFACEs=("dhcp")
    I edited the interfaces part, I have a few times.. nothing works.
    and the gateway is just
    gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
    I have to hand it to myself though, this is the first time a distro has not picked up the internet in many years, and I can't seem to fix it.
    Any help much appreceated.

    Well, that's completely wrong.
    Remove the lo= line, that's getting handled in /etc/rc.sysinit already, so no need for it in rc.conf.
    eth0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(eth0)

  • Athereos wifi gives strange "no such device" errors

    I've installed madwifi and udev loads the module (ath_pci) automatically on start... But the Network script complains the ath0 doesn't exist when I boot up:
    Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) :
    Set failed on device ath0 ; no such device.
    Error, ath0: ioctl SIOCGIFHWADDR: No such device
    Likewise, ifconfig doesn't show ath0 and iwconfig shows no wireless extensions. But I've got the right stuff in rc.conf:
    lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
    eth0="dhcp"
    ath0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(lo eth0 ath0)
    and in /etc/conf.d/wireless:
    wlan_ath0="ath0 essid MyEssid"
    WLAN_INTERFACES=(ath0)
    Also, I don't know if this is part of the problem but lspci tells me this about my wifi:
    03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. Unknown device 001c (rev 01)
    What gives? Is there a known software bug? Is this unsupported hardware, contrary to what I've read about this laptop?
    (Hmm, I haven't tried loading it without the country code. I'll see if that works... No, still doesn't work. Bugger.)

  • Network Trouble - eth0 not interface for sis900 controller

    I'm not sure how to even state this problem, but I have gone through the guides a couple of times to try and find what I missed or some more enlightening information.  Currently, I get nothing if I ping google, or anything else for that matter.
    Here's what I have,
    useful stuff from my rc.conf file:
    # HARDWARE
    # MOD_AUTOLOAD: Allow autoloading of modules at boot and when needed
    # MOD_BLACKLIST: Prevent udev from loading these modules
    # MODULES: Modules to load at boot-up. Prefix with a ! to blacklist.
    # NOTE: Use of 'MOD_BLACKLIST' is deprecated. Please use ! in the MODULES array.
    MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
    #MOD_BLACKLIST=() #deprecated
    MODULES=(sis900 !snd_pcsp !pcspkr)
    # Scan for LVM volume groups at startup, required if you use LVM
    USELVM="no"
    # NETWORKING
    # HOSTNAME: Hostname of machine. Should also be put in /etc/hosts
    HOSTNAME="archPC"
    # Use 'ifconfig -a' or 'ls /sys/class/net/' to see all available interfaces.
    # Interfaces to start at boot-up (in this order)
    # Declare each interface then list in INTERFACES
    # - prefix an entry in INTERFACES with a ! to disable it
    # - no hyphens in your interface names - Bash doesn't like it
    # DHCP: Set your interface to "dhcp" (eth0="dhcp")
    # Wireless: See network profiles below
    #Static IP example
    #eth0="eth0 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255"
    eth0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(eth0)
    # Routes to start at boot-up (in this order)
    # Declare each route then list in ROUTES
    # - prefix an entry in ROUTES with a ! to disable it
    gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
    # Enable these network profiles at boot-up. These are only useful
    # if you happen to need multiple network configurations (ie, laptop users)
    # - set to 'menu' to present a menu during boot-up (dialog package required)
    # - prefix an entry with a ! to disable it
    # Network profiles are found in /etc/network.d
    # This now requires the netcfg package
    #NETWORKS=(main)
    # DAEMONS
    # Daemons to start at boot-up (in this order)
    # - prefix a daemon with a ! to disable it
    # - prefix a daemon with a @ to start it up in the background
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond)
    and from /etc/hosts:
    # /etc/hosts: static lookup table for host names
    #<ip-address> <hostname.domain.org> <hostname>
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost archPC

    I'm sorry, I don't understand the issue.
    from syslog:  eth0: SiS 900 PCI Fast Ethernet at 0xd400, IRQ 11, 00:0a:e6:1f:fd:1e
    from ifconfig: eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:0A:E6:1F:FD:1E
    The mac addresses all match  eth0 is the sis 9000.  And, lspci tells us the sis900 kernel module is loaded
    Is the issue that you don't have an IP address?  We can fix that (I think )

  • [Solved] mythtv-setup DVB (could not get card info/No such device)

    Update: Solution in post #4.
    I'm building a new Arch server which will replace my existing mythtv backend using a HP microserver. Other than my old machine not being updated in some time, the only difference is new box is 64bit. I have 2x Sony PlayTV USB DVB's and have left one plugged into each system.
    [root@oldserver ~]# uname -a
    Linux oldserver 3.5.4-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Sep 15 13:04:04 UTC 2012 i686 GNU/Linux
    [root@microserver ~]# uname -a
    Linux microserver 3.7.6-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Feb 4 09:15:13 CET 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    While trying to add my tuners to the new box from mythtv-setup I get the following error in the log and "could not get card info" on the screen in setup:
    2013-02-13 20:27:47.629155 I Current MythTV Schema Version (DBSchemaVer): 1307
    2013-02-13 20:28:18.498767 E FE_GET_INFO ioctl failed (/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0)
    eno: No such device (19)
    2013-02-13 20:28:18.537457 E FE_GET_INFO ioctl failed (/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0)
    eno: No such device (19)
    To me this is either permissions of the device, which match on both systems (except for the + on the oldserver which I think is ACL but output of getfacl are identical?)

    Hopefully someone wiser than I can spot the problem here and I can get this build finished
    Edit: I should add that I did a trial install of Ubuntu 12.04, upto date as of few days ago and it worked perfectly though I didn't note down what kernel version (was 64bit). Nothing has changed hardware wise.

    It seems to affect dvb usb devices. I didn't see any evidence of this patch http://patchwork.linuxtv.org/patch/13563/ in current kernels, but it may have been rewritten. I haven't had to change my card setup and don't have usb tuners, so I haven't hit this problem.
    Edit: Found it, ha, just went out yesterday, will be in 3.9: (search for Juergen) http://patchwork.linuxtv.org/patch/16925/
    That worked great.
    I did stumble upon the femon thing at some point but I didn't see any explanation for it and all my googling for femon resulted in a plugin for VDR which totally had me stumped. After your post a tried a slightly different google string and found it was in the linuxtv-dvb-apps package. In hindsight a "pacman -Qo femon" would have given me the answer...
    Thanks for your efforts fphillips.

  • Report for counting the number of interfaces in each device

    Hi, we have LMS 4.0.1 and we would like to know how many gigabitEthernet interfaces and how many fastEthernet interfaces does each device have. If we create a custom report template with the conditions "Interface:Type:Contains:Gi" OR "Interface:Type:Contains:Fa" we get the interfaces that match the criteria but we also need the count, and this is what we don't know how to do it.
    Does anyone know how can we do it?

  • Kernel compiling - mount failed: No such device?

    Hello everyone!
    I'm having an issue with mounting the linux kernel I've just compiled.  What I've done:
    -  I've patched linux-2.6.33.3 with patch-2.6.33.3-rt19 by issuing bzcat ../patch-2.6.33.3-rt19.bz2 | patch -p1
    -  sudo make -j4 all
    -  sudo make modules_install
    -  sudo mkinitcpio -g /boot/kernel26rt.img -k 2.6.33.3-rt19
    -  sudo cp ./arch/x86/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz2.6.33.3x86-rt
    -  sudo cp ./System.map /boot/System.map2.6.33.3x86-rt
    -  sudo rm /boot/System.map
    -  sudo ln -s /boot/System.map2.6.33.3x86-rt /boot/System.map
    -  Edit grub/menu.lst:
    # (0) Arch Linux
    title Arch Linux2
    root (hd0,2)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-label/root ro
    initrd /kernel26.img
    # (1) Arch Linux

    kernel /vmlinuz2.6.33.3x86-rt root=/dev/disk/by-label/root ro

    Now when I select the rt kernel from grub, it fails with:

    I'm guessing you haven't installed nfs-utils and portmap on the client. Or you haven't started them. In the right order (portmap, then nfslock - you don't need to start nfsd on the client)

  • Error: no such device 36A84D5EA84D1DAD

    Hi,
    I have both win7 professional and ubuntu 11.10 on my t410i.
    Everything was ok, till I try onHackMe and it recognize some problems, it deleted my dlls and...After I restarted for finishing the task, my windows couldn't start....I deleted my c drive completely and restored my windows hardly to factory settings. Grub menu didn't change. And now both of Linux and windows works approximately good. But after I choose win7 in grub menu, before win startup I get this error:
    "Error: no such device 36A84D5EA84D1DAD
    Press any key to continue..."
    It passing automatically after seconds, but I want to know what is it and how I can solve it?

    HI shahrzad,   (This should probably be in the Linux forum)
    I'm guessing here, but this is probably because the UUID of the Windows partition has changed.
    You might be able to fix it by booting Ubuntu and running update-grub.
    Otherwise, try posting in a Ubuntu forum, or googling "ubuntu windows 7 grub Error: no such device uuid changed" or something similar.
    [edit] This is just one of the reasons I miss grub legacy.
    Good luck,
    Z.

  • Error no such device (after installation)

    Dear all,
    I'd like to gradually switch to Arch (from Ubuntu) so I decided to install it on a virtual machine (Virtualbox).
    I followed the instructions in the "Unofficial Beginners Guide" and I thought I followed all the steps correctly.
    The only thing that confused me a bit was the installation of the Virtualbox Kernel modules (to me from the guide it
    is not clear if I have to install them in Ubuntu, the system from which I run the virtual machine, or in Arch the system
    that is installed in the virtual machine).
    Anyway I think I followed the procedure in the right way, and I didn't get any error message during the installation,
    but apparently I made something wrong.
    When I boot Arch, I get the GRUB menu. I select "Arch GNU/Linux with core repo kernel",
    but I get this error message:
    error no such device: (device id)
    Loading Linux core repo...
    error: no such partition
    Loading initial ramdisk
    error: you need to run the kernel first.
    Press any key to continue...
    When I press any key I get back to the GRUB menu.
    If I select "Arch GNU/Linux, with core repo kernel (Fallback initramfs)"
    I get the same error message.
    Can you help me understanding where things might have gone wrong?
    Thanks a lot in advance for your help,
    and hopefully I'll join you soon in this Arch adventure
    Best,
    Luca

  • Network problem - [ SIOCADDRT: No such device ]

    At first I apologize for this post - I know there are topics with similar problem, but I try to solve it according to their solutions and the problem is still here...
    I don't know how to correctly set up my network.
    When I try
    /etc/rc.d/network start
    , it gives me answer like this
    SIOCADDRT: No such device
    Network goes and doesn't... The centerim, ftp connections, internet radio - that all is working, but firefox displays nothing... sometimes yes, but I don't change something in system... It's weird...
    When I try to run internet under Windows, everything work's fine...
    Btw...I have router and 3 computers. Others are using windows and there are no problems with network...
    I used Archlinux a year ago for few mounths and I was very satisfied. A week ago I try to install arch and without internet I can't use it...
    Thx for any advice...
    Please help.

    hi, when you use ftp connection and internet radio do you insert an IP address or a domain name?
    because if it's firefox the problem isn't possible it's a DNS problem?
    (I'm not an expert just wondering)
    try to connect to google using it's ip address and tell us the result.
    bye
