Ethernet cable wont fit into imacs ethernet port.

Hello.
I feel like an idiot.
I have build pc's and have my own network at home.
And for some reason i cant fit my ethernet cable into the imac.
I just bought this imac so its the new g5 w/isight.
The plug only goes half way in and then stops.
I have tried all my cables in the house.
Even the pc and all my networked computers.
Can someone help me.
I love my new imac but i want to hook the new imac to the network.
Thanks
Al

There's always the chance that you could be trying to
plug into the modem port. It's easy to do, as they're
pretty similar in shape. The ethernet port is
typically distinguishable by being a bit larger than
the modem port, though they are rather too similar!
I would have suggested that as well, however this user posted that he has the new iMac with built-in iSight camera. This model does not have a built-in modem.
Additionally, the user claimed that the connector would go in about half-way. If it was a RJ-11 port, an RJ-45 connector would never get that far

  • Just got a new ipad2 , the usb cable  to connect wont fit into the charger port` it looks a bit smaller than the ipad1?

just got a new ipad2, the charger cable ( the same cable as ipad1 ) doesnt seem to fit ? i have loads of apple products and the charger is the same on them all ,so whats different? the charge port under the home button looks slightly differant?

I got the same issue with my iPad 2, when I got it on opening day. For some reason, it just didn't accommodate any of my other cords (ipod touch, ipod nano, etc.). Now, though, every one of my cables except for the ipod nano one can fit in it.  I think that the iPad needs time to "stretch out" its parts to fit the other cables.

  • Suitable ethernet cable for my new Imac 27-inch iMac 3.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 and old imac 1 GHZ PowerPC G4

I am looking for a Suitable ethernet cable for my new Imac 27-inch iMac 3.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 (Mavericks 10.9.4) & old imac 1 GHZ PowerPC G4 (10.4.11) for transfering files, documents, photos into my new intel mac from my old power PC imac.
Can anyone please advise me which suitable ethernet cable would be suitable for tasks.
    Many thanks
    Niall

Note, the iMac G4 1 Ghz only supports 10/100 base-T.  Firewire is up to 4 faster with a cable such as this one:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/HA833ZM/A/belkin-firewire-800400-9-pin6-pin-ca ble-2-m66-ft
    and adapted to this one:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r
    http://www.macsales.com/ may offer cheaper cables.
And since you are migrating from a G4, be sure to make your files portable to newer data formats before transferring.  Old Appleworks/Clarisworks files are not compatible:

I always had this printer connected via a network so I don't know if I am able to connect directly with a cable since it is a network printer. I have tried to reconfigure the printer using the JetDirect menu giving it a new IP address but still no luck. If anyone could help me through this issue I would appreciate it.

Second, seeing "connecting" and connection failed is normal. You must click on "Connect As" in the Finder window and then enter the username and password for the admin account on the other computer. That should fix things.
    Thanks for responding.
When does clicking on "Connect As" happen in the process above?
    After step six? Seven?
    After the connection has failed?
Is this the FInder window that shows the icon of the computer you want to copy the file from?
You should see "Connect As" in the Finder near the top right of the window as shown below:

  • What is an ethernet cable?, what is an ethernet cable?

what is an ethernet cable?, what is an ethernet cable?

It can be purchased under the name of Ethernet cable, Cat-5 cable, Cat-5e cable, and Cat-6 cable.
Most ethernet cables now sold are Patch-type (also called Straight-through), though older Macs (pre-2000 and some 2000 models) needed to use a Crossover-type cable.
They can be purchased in a wide variety of lengths and colors.

  • Ethernet cable from AE to iMac

Is it possible to connect an iMac to an express via ethernet cable rather than wireless?
The situation is: Broadband internet comes via NTL modem on the ground floor, and I want to connect to a G3 iMac (no airport card, on OS 9) situated two floors up.
My suggested solution is: Connect one Airport Express to the NTL modem, locate a second AE by the iMac and set up as a remote, then connect the iMac to the remote AE via ethernet cable. Will this work?
If so, I assume that I would have to set the network up with a Mac running Tiger, as the iMac (OS 9) doesn't have the capability?
    ibook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

My suggested solution is: Connect one Airport Express to the NTL modem, locate a second AE by the iMac and set up as a remote, then connect the iMac to the remote AE via ethernet cable. Will this work?
Yes. You will want to set up a Wireless Distribution System (WDS) with the two AirPort Express Base Stations (AX).
    Here's how:
"Factory Reset" the AX base stations
    - (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
    Wireless Distribution System (WDS) Setup
(Note: To facilitate setting up the base stations, place them in near proximity of each other during the set up phase.)
Set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as the WDS Main Base Station, by connecting directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then use the AirPort Admin Utility to make the following settings.
    WDS Tab
    - Enable this base station as a WDS: main base station (checked)
    - Allow wireless clients on this base station (checked)
    - Click "+" to add Remote/Relay Base Stations.
-- Select the Base Station that you want to be the WDS Remote/Relay.
-- AirPort ID: <verify that this is the correct MAC address for the Base Station you are adding as a Remote/Relay.
-- Auto configure as a WDS remote base station (checked)
    -- Click "OK."
    - Verify that the Remote/Relay Base Station has been added to the list.
    - Click "Update," and then verify the settings for the Remote/Relay.
-- Allow wireless clients on this base station (checked)
-- New network name: <verify that this is the same as the network name for the AX>
    -- TCP/IP: Configure using DHCP
    -- Base Station Password: <the Remote/Relay Base Station password>
    -- Confirm: <same as previous step>
    -- Click "OK."

  • Firwire cable not fitting into new imac 24"!

My imac 24" has just arrived...
I bought a 6 pin to 6 pin firewire cable to migrate my stuff from my G4.
The cable fits into the G4 but not the imac 24"!!!!
    What am i doing wrong?
Also, can i migrate stuff later after playing around withthe new imac?
    thanks in advance!

So is it too late to use the firewire to migrate my stuff?
The only things i definatley will migrate will be documents, photos and itunes library.
No, it's not too late. You can still connect the two systems via Firewire Target Disk Mode and use the Migration Assistant (in your iMac's Applications -> Utilities folder) to bring over all your documents. Or you can just drag them over manually.
I don't recommend migrating applications from a PowerPC-based Mac to an Intel-based one. It's rare, but sometimes it has happened that the Migration Assistant overwrites a previouly-installed Intel-native app with the PowerPC-based one. I don't think Migration Assistant will copy all the extra folders for Adobe's apps anyway, though I could be wrong. I'd suggest just reinstalling Photoshop and Word on the new system.

If you are connecting the two computers directly to each other with an ethernet cable, you need a special "crossover" cable to swap the send/receive pins so the data sent from one computer arrives on the "receive" pins on the other end of the cable, not on the "send" pins that you get with a straight cable.
Incorrect, you do not need a special crossover cable. Any cable will do.

    Hello Wyodor,
thanks for your reply on my question.
You are wright the index file is 308 KB.
And offcourse that I delete my files and documents is not an Iweb problem, but because my English is not that good, that I thougt I try to tell the whole story, and hope people can read trough the lines.
Why I didn't use Iweb to upload to the server is because the server company recommanded to use file zilla. And I am a nobody with this kind of things, so I did exactly what they tell me to do.
No, i did not make a backup of Iweb and the domain file, but reading other messages on this forum showed me that I can maybe try to make empty the cashfile (?)
and otherwise I have bad luck and have to make my website again. Offcourse I have a lot of examples from all the pages (copied from the local map to my USB stick) and my website is aprox. 15 Mb, (not so big) so it will cost me a few nigths.
But I'm still hoping on a miracle :-)

  • Factory boxed Apple usb cable wont fit in 4S

    Hi,
I recently purchased an iPhone 4S while overseas. In the box it came with ear phones, usb wall charger and a usb cable.
The end of the usb cable that is supposed to fit into the iphone won't fit in. On closer inspection I found that one of the two "prongs" doesn't spring back in to allow the charger to slide into the iPhone.
I am looking for advice on what to do. Is this a common problem or has anyone ever encountered it before? Can/should I force back in? I've tried to but worried I will damage it.
I can't bring it back to the store I bought it from

    Thanks,
I looked around on the apple support page. My iphone was out of the initial 90 day free tech support but still covered by 1 year warranty.
Not only did they call me, but they are sending me out a replacement for free
(initially on the call they wanted me to return it but due to an error they decided to send it for free)
    Appreciate the help!

  • Bridge an AirPort Express from an Extreme connected to a Motorola DOCSIS 3 cable/modem/gateway via an ethernet cable? Can I connect ethernet to the Express to setup/handshake/coordinate, and then unplug the ethernet cable from the Express?

In other words, does the AirPort Extreme NEED to be the device connected to the coaxial cable, or can I connect that cable to the Motorola SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem/wireless gateway? (My Internet provider requires DOCSIS 3.0 for speeds above 12 megabits/sec.)
Will the Airport Extreme "program" the Express via an ethernet cable, and than the cable can be removed?
The "bridge" or "repeater needs to be quite a distance away from the physically connected cable modem/wireless gateway and the ethernet- connected AirPort Extreme, and we have wall-to-wall carpeting, and the walls and ceilings are off-limits (family politics), so a looooong ethernet cable is out of the question.
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanx!
P.S. The 802.11 in my house (ground floor, about fifty feet away from the modem; in the living room about 35ft away *****! And Motorola touts this wireless gateway as having amazing coverage (360, I think they call it),but in fairness, this house is old and has a 5 hanset cordless landline and a microwave and a fan, etc., etc., etc......

  • Firewire cable not fitting into the Mac Pro Port

Hi I've got a Sony video camera that's about 7 years, it uses Mini DV. I recently filmed my sister's College graduation that I wanted to view and transfer to my computer. I just purchased a fire wire cable to hook up the camcorder to my mac Pro. The cable fit's perfectly into the Video camera but not the Mac Pro. Did I purchase the wrong cable? It's a Belkin 6-pin to 4-pin Cable. This is the cable that I bought http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F3N401-06-ICE-4-Pin-6-Pin-FireWire/dp/B00005NIMR/re f=sr11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1243482027&sr=8-1. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes - the cable you purchased is FW400, the new Mac Pro's use FW800.
It does seem like a strange omission not to have at least one FW400 port...
I have seen some adapter that hook onto the FW400 end, so that you can insert into a FW800. They do tend to be expensive in the area where I live.

  • Cable doesn't fit into back USB ports

My front USB port isn't working...everytime I plug a cable into it I get a message that reads "Power Surge on Hub Port" and it won't connect. My ports in the back are functioning, but I cannot connect my iPOd into them because the cord doesn't fit. Is there something I can buy (like a mini extension cord) that will connect them?
Please help I am so frustrated. thanks!

thanks so much for your help...
I'm using a Dell Computer (it has Optiplex GX270 written on it) with Windows XP. If you need more info just tell me where to find it.
Even when I plug in a USB cable (one that isn't connected to a device), the message still appears. The iPod connector does fit in the front, but not the back ones. I know the back ones work because I plugged a camera into one in the back and it worked, (it didn't in the front).
I would just use the back ports for my iPod too but the cable is a little different and won't work. I think there is excessive plastic on the connector?

  • Usb wont fit into port?

hi there, i am having problems connecting the usb cable into my playbook, it only goes in part way and then its like theres something blocking it. my playbook will not charge at all. It was working fine, now all of a sudden its not. any ideas???

Unfortunately, there is no simple answer here or easy fix. It is an alignment issue caused by improper use of the USB cable when charging. There are no mechanisms (either physical or software) on the PlayBook that will suddenly not let you charge the device if proper use was followed. If you feel that rebooting the PlayBook fixed your device, go for it, but I can assure you that it was coincidental.
Something was either inserted wrong or is now bent, broken or limiting the normal action of the cable. If you have tried multiple cables without fixing then you can bet confidently that it is the USB port itself. The only solution at that point is to call technical support and see if you qualify for a hardware warranty RMA and send it in for repairs. Trying to fix it yourself is only asking for problems in my opinion and will definitely invalidate your warranty if you snap a pin off.
When looking at the cable from the "male" charging end you will notice that it has angled corners. These are always to go facing upwards/facing the ceiling when inserting the cable. The "teeth" on the bottom side go downward - always.
If the angled corners face downwards/the ground when inserting the cable then it will cause damage to the port. On an OEM BlackBerry microUSB cable, the BlackBerry B logo will assist you visually and will face upwards when inserting. You can think of it this way, The printed Blackberry logo on the actual bottom bezel of the PlayBook will be closest to the B logo on the microUSB cable - they "match" in a way. If they don't match, you're doing it wrong and risk damage to the port/cable.
If using a non-OEM cable then you will have to check what visible marks represent what is upward facing.

Your iPod Classic almost certainly is not USB, but FireWire
    USB
    FireWire
I know this because the USB (type A) socket has not changed since it came out and early iPods were FireWire, not USB>
