Europe Power Adapter

I'm taking a trip to Scotland from the US and will be bringing my laptop. I've purchased a plug in converter so I am able to plug my Mac in to the wall. Is there anything else that I need to worry about as far as power and potential damage to my computer?
tmp

I'm glad I read this before I left for Germany tomorrow. I thought I had everything covered. I guess not!!
Okay, I'm bringing 2 15" MBPs and 12" PB. Yes, there's more than me going.
I had bought a converter. But, in reading its directions and now this forum, I'm not going to use it for my precious Apple products.
I did buy an adapter plug to plug in between the voltage converter and the German outlets. It's universal enough that an American plug just plugs into the back of it. Does this mean I can plug my power adapters into this little $4 generic plug adapter and then plug that into a German outlet?
Does this mean I do NOT need to run to the Apple store in the morning to buy their universal power adapter box of plugs??
Please! Help! I know it's last minute but I thought I'd taken care of everything.
Thanks
Christopher

    Hello,
Sorry to reposting this message, I feel like the questions deserve to have their own tread.
I am planning to switch to Apple iMac also and have some questions regarding the possible isues I might experience with the new computer.
    1. I am planning to purchase an iMac in the United States and take it back here, to Riga, Latvia. Shall I have to have some kind of power adapter and/or converter?? What brand or kind would you suggest, please?
The forums have not been very helpful. I still do not know, what additional hardware i should use in order to get the US iMac going in Latvia.
    2. My friend, a Mac genius so to speak, told me, that based on his experience models created for the US market are not very good compared to those manufactured for Europe (thus explaining the price gap between these two). How true is this statement, please?
    3. We have an official Apple dealer in Riga, but the price for a hardware is by far higher than in the United States (not taking into consideration the income level even )) ). The question is, if i purchase the hardware in the US, will it be possible to get the warranty service in Riga, please?
    Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    1. The Intel iMacs all have auto-switching power supplies which will happily work on voltage between 100 - 240Volts AC (50 - 60Hz). All you need to do is provide a replacement mains power cable.
    2. I've never heard of any difference between the models in the US and the rest of the world except the early iMac G5s where there as a US/Japan version and a rest of world version. I don't believe there are any quality differences however. The difference in cost is the same difference that all commodities see.

  • Need power adapter from an iPhone 5 Europe to charge in canada?

Please, Need power adapter from an iPhone 5 Europe to charge it in canada?

You just need to get an adapter for the plug pins
No need for a voltage adapter, just look for 120/240 50/60Hz on the label and if you do see it you're set for North American power.

  • MacBook Pro - Airplane power requirement/Europe plug adapter

I've been told that i can purchase a power adapter for my MacBook Pro to plug into the airplane's power source but that since the power source on the airplane is only 65 watts (I think), that the adapter will only allow my laptop to power on, but that the battery will not be charged. Does anyone know if this is correct? Is there a specific adapter at the Apple Store that i need to buy? What happens when the battery is fully discharged? Does the computer still power on while plugged into the airplane?
Another question involves traveling to Europe with my MacBook. Other than the plug adapter to fit the European plugs, do i need anything else? I was also told that the MacBooks power fits within Europe's typical wattage requirements. Does anyone know?

I should mention, though, that not all (a small percentage, even) of airlines have the airline adapter plug available onboard. Call your airline and ask.
Actually, many airlines do have them now, but it's no good to call the airlines for information, the front line phone reps usually don't know. Part of the reason airline customer service cannot help you is that location of power ports varies by aircraft type, and even within a single airplane the power port locations can vary by section or row. A blanket "yes" or "no" answer is not enough information for you, even by flight, and airline customer service is typically not at all set up to find out whether a power port will be at your specific seat on your specific flight.
The best bet is to consult seatguru.com as recommended in the duplicate of this thread that was posted earlier. Seatguru has the best information as to whether your airline's airplane will have power ports, and if so, in which section or row. On my last flight, for instance, the plane did have power ports in the cheap seats, but only in alternating groups of rows. If you didn't check seatguru before specifying your seat preference, you could end up one or two rows too far ahead or behind a whole bunch of power ports.

  • Does the iPad Air power adapter automatically conver Nothern Europe power to 60 cycles.

Does the iPad Air power adapter automatically conver Nothern Europe power to 60 cycles.

To expand on stedman's correct answer, all you need is a plug adapter. Apple also sells kits and cords that will convert the plug on the power adapter to any other type of plug for worldwide compatibility.

  • Universal Power Adapter for Europe for my Zen Vision

I'm going to Spain in 2 weeks and i'm wondering if the Uni'versal Power Adapter will work with my Zen Vision: M. In the compatability section, it names several models, but I don't see the Vision: M. Does that mean I won't be able to bring my Zen with me? Or am I just not looking hard enough and I can actually buy the Uni'versal Adapter?

    Hi,
The Uni'versal Power Adapter is compatible with your Vision: M, see the specs.
Bring along with you the Sync Adapter, just in case.

  • Which power adapter for Europe

I will be visiting Russia soon and I would need a power adapter for both my macbook pro and my iphone, any idea of what is needed? Thanks!

"but what about my digital camera batteries? This is no use to charge my batteries... I am also confuse with the adapter/converter required, what is the difference? "
Most digital cameras come with a universal power adapter (100-240V, 50-60Hz) and can be used anywhere. To be sure, check the power adapter that came with your camera. The AV power input will be marked on the adapter. Depending upon where you purchased the camera, the AC prong configuration will change. If it was purchased in the US, you can use the same AC prong adapter that works with the MBP and iPhone.
If you have a charger specifically for your camera batteries, it probably does not have a universal power adapter - you can check the markings to be sure. Accordingly, the easiest thing to do is to bring a supply of batteries with you. If you live in the US, "good" batteries are cheaper there than anywhere else. If you wait until you get to Russia, you'll find that good batteries are very expensive, and the cheap batteries are very bad.

  • A/C Power Adapter for EUROPE

    Hi All,
Can anyone recommend an A/C Power adapter for my IBM Thinkpad T60, which I can plug into the European 2-Pin A/C outlet?  I don't want to use converters because the A/C outlets where I am staying are recessed and the pins are not long enough to reach the receptacle.  I need an actual A/C Adapter that can also operate on the European Frequency.

All ThinkPad AC Adapters are rated with input 100V-240V. This means you can use your own adapter, all you will need is the power cable.

  • Ipod shuffle 2nd gen does not charge on new 5W USB power adapter

    Hi,
my perfectly functional ipod shuffle 2nd gen with original dock will not charge with the new Continental Europe 5W USB power adapter, even though the specs of the power adapter include the 2nd generation shuffle. Shuffle will blink orange three times, longer than normal blinking, and then do nothing. probably nothing I can do about it, but worth a note. The US model of the new 5W adapter does not include the 2nd gen shuffle, so maybe it is an error on the apple specs page.
Maybe the 2nd gen needs more than 5W to charge?

indeed, it needs the bigger 12 Watt Adapter and the apple site is wrong.

  • European power adapter?

I'm going to Italy this summer.  What kind of power adapter do I need for a MacBook Pro?

The MBP charger is rated 110-240 volts at 50-60 Hz...all you need is a plug adapter to convert to the two round pins used in Europe.  Try Radio Shack, or the airport when you arrive.  You can usually buy adapters in international airports.

  • Correct power adapter for PowerBook 1ghz Titanium?

Could someone please confirm which power adapter is the correct one for use with a Titanium PowerBook 1ghz, as would have been shipped with the PowerBook from Apple?
I've been searching and have found a number of model numbers ie M8743LL/A, A1021, 661-3746 and 661-3346....
Which is the same one as would have shipped from Apple with the PowerBook 1ghz Ti?
Im in Europe, UK if that matters to the model number?

OK, I have a unit with A1021 on it. I recall that one could get the international plug set as an accessory and just replace the little clip-on adapter, but the unit itself remained the same model number. If you have the clip-on plug or cord assembly already for UK plugs, then the A1021 should work fine.

  • Need a reliable power adapter for travel

I am traveling to Russia in a few weeks and I need a good power adapter for my Mac Book Pro, iphone, and other small devices such as a shaver. I don't want to spend $40-50 on the Apple travel kit. Does anyone know of a good adapter kit or can lead me to a site. This is my first time in Europe and Russia and I will be there for 2 weeks and I plan to use my laptop, camcorder, and camera a ton.

All you need is an AC prong adapter and, if you can't find what you need on the web, you'll be able to find one in Russia for a small handful of rubles.

  • Will USA Apple Firewire power adapter cope with 240 volts?

Hi, just bought an Apple OEM firewire power adapter, see here
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330275832822&ssPageName=ADME: B:EOIBSA:US:1123
Anyone know if this will this work without a voltage convertor in UK & Europe?
    It's for an iPod mini.
I know one can charge by connecting to computer but it's more convenient to plug into the wall.
    Thanks for any help.

Oh yes, thankyou for clarifying my mind on that.
I also bought a syncing firewire cable from the same place while I was at it so she should just need one cable then to do both charging & syncing as long as the firewire works abroad.
I'll inspect it when it comes & if in doubt we could leave the firewire power adaptor here for when she's in US & get a USB power adapter in UK for there & Europe.
Or I could sell the firewire power adapter to keep things simple.
    Thanks a lot Chris.
In case anyone has any experience using the firewire power adapter abroad I'd be interested.
    Thanks.

  • Which power adapter should I use?

yes hi I was wondering, if I get a power adapter for my ipod nano which, which one should I get? I have a 2Gb nano if I we're to purchase one which one should I get? I've knowdest that there are 2 kinds of
adapters one of them is for the 10,20,30 or perhaps 40 Gb ipods and the other is for lesser Gb's both packages would say all for ipod models for both adapters. I'm not really sure which one I should get.

Yes, the UK system is far safer than that in Europe. Each of your items should have their own fused plugs, rated as appropriately, then connect to the power surge strip, which is itself protected only up to 13 amp.
You can read about fuse ratings here:
    http://www.davesdiytips.com/2009/08/fuse-ratings-in-plug-tops/
Short answer: use more than one power surge strip, do not plug them into each other, and use separate wall sockets!
