Event Places Settings

Is it possible to see, at a glance, which Events are configured with geotags? I have over 1,000 Events in my Library, and I'll be tagging them over time, yet it appears I can't quickly tell which are already set up unless I click the little "i" on the Event box. Similar to the grid view in Places, I'd like to see, in the standard event listing, perhaps pin notations on the Events with location tags. Is this a current feature of '09, or something I should be requesting?

You can make the Not-Geotagged Smart Album show you events--add "Event Name does not contain (leave it blank) to the smart album. Select the smart album and select View | Event Titles. You'll see your pix divided by events, and can option-click an event arrow just like in the Photos view to collapse all the events and just see the event titles.
So this setup will let you see at a glance which events are not geo-tagged. Quicker to set up than to describe how to do it.

  • Losing Events, Places, Faces and other problems in iPhoto

    Bought the new iMac in January; carefully transferred photos from old G4 and took ages updating the details using the great events/places/faces etc facility. Recently 2 things happened - I bought a new camera (Nikon D500); imported and updated event/place/face etc; all working fine. Days later got an upgrade iPhoto message - dutifully did so. Next time opened iPhoto got message to upgrade database - did so. I think there was a message reporting that this was necessary to secure the database; but I was not really concentrating on this merely assuming that my "new" software would not create any problems (how wrong could I have been?!)
    RESULT?
    - lost ALL place/face details;
    - photos still grouped as Events folder but only with with the old camera date format.
    - "Albums" directory with titles from old iPhoto version on G4 machine re-appeared!
    - In Finder file-path from root Pictures>iPhoto>Library>[subdirectories by year etc] replaced by a single iPhotodatabase that can only be accessed by opening using iPhoto
    - iPhoto created a "recovered photos" subfolder in "albums".
    I also notice that the Browse facility used to attach photos in Mail is also rendered useless - clicking one photo fails to attach a photo; i can click and drag one photo into an e-mail; but this goes into the e-mail body rather than as an attached item.
    Any suggestions that allow me to recover the information so painstakingly entered will be useful.
    I notice a lot of comments suggesting problems with iPhoto 8.1.1 - but I cannot see anything on the site similar to my problem - is this something that Apple are aware of and working on?
    Steve

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Lets clear some things up first:
    In Finder file-path from root Pictures>iPhoto>Library>subdirectories by year etc replaced by a single iPhotodatabase that can only be accessed by opening using iPhoto
    This is normal. Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. (See below for details on how to access your files)
    I also notice that the Browse facility used to attach photos in Mail is also rendered useless - clicking one photo fails to attach a photo; i can click and drag one photo into an e-mail; but this goes into the e-mail body rather than as an attached item.
    This is normal. That's how Mail works with Photos in an Email. Altering that is a matter for Mail. Elect to send Plain Text Emails. Note that how the email looks on your Mac has very little bearing on how it will appear on the receivers machine. It's pretty much 100% dependent on the setting on their email client.
    As to the missing Faces/Places etc. This sounds like a damaged database file:
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Failing that, restore from your back up.
    As promised:
    There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 and later*
    You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    (Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
    You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and later* ...
    Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
    To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
    This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
    If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
    If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
    *If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
    For users of 10.6 and later:
    You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
    For Users of 10.4 and later:
    Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
    Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.

  • Event place wrong and can not be deleted

    iPhoto has assigned the WRONG place to many of my photos even though they have correct geo-tags. In the past I've found that the wrong place comes from the event and that deleting the event's place stopped masking the photo's correct place. Now I have several events from which I can not delete the place. I can delete it from individual photos to reveal the correct place but I can no longer delete it from the event.
    There seems to be several bugs here:
    1. iPhoto persistently assigns the WRONG place to events. The event place then masks all photo places. Most of my photos are automatically assigned the wrong place, even though each is correctly geo-taged.
    2. The event place assignment is, um, well, I can't remove the thing. When I view the event info I see the wrong place on the map but it is not in the "Place" text box and clicking the "x" does not remove what was not there to begin with.
    The only solution I have found is to open the event, select all photos, Get Info, then remove the "place". This seems to un-mask the actual geo-tagged place. I'm a little reluctant to do this on-mass to the whole photo library as it may remove correct geo-tagged places.
    Why is the wrong place being assigned to most of my photos? How do I prevent this in the future? How do I remove it from all photos in the library with out removing the correct place assigned to individual photos?

    Thanks for the suggestion. I deleted preference and found that I had to go back and remove the wrong place again. But that was not the fault of deleting preferences. Seems that EVERYTIME I open iPhoto is associates the wrong place.
    it is not that iPhoto is assigning an unexpected name - it is assigning altogether the wrong location. The photo may be geo-tagged in Utah and iPhoto will "place" it in Washington. And it is not just any wrong place. It is always the same wrong place. Here's a more specific explanation.
    Years ago I went skiing in the Cascades at a place called "Yellow Aster Butte". iPhoto naturally does not have this place so I created a place with this name and assigned it to photos of that ski trip. I've been back several times and assigned the place of those photos to "Yellow Aster Butte"
    Well, it is that location which iPhoto typically assigns to new photos. Now days most of my photos have a correct geo-tag. Since each photo has a geo-tag I expect iPhoto to recognize the location. Instead it assigns "Yellow Aster Butte" to every photo. If I go and remove this assignment the correct geo-tag will appear.
    Well, it is not actually iPhoto assigning the wrong location on import. If I clear "Yellow Aster Butte" from photos, quit, re-lauch, I find that "Yellow Aster Butte" has been re-assigned to the photos.
    "Rescan for Location" does not fix the problem. I have to remove the wrong location.
    This is not coming from incorrect preferences as I just deleted them. Is there something messed up about my library? I'm beginning to look at Picasa with envy. Geo-tags are going to become more important. I've been hoping that Apple would get this worked out in iPhoto. This sure looks like a bug and it has persisted for a year or two.

  • Script Events Manager settings don't stick

    I'm using Photoshop CS 3 version 10.0 and I can't seem to get Script Events Manager settings to work between launches of the program.
    I choose File > Scripts > Script Events Manager.
    In the dialog box, I select the Enable Events to Run Scripts/Actions checkbox.
    From the Photoshop Event menu I choose Open Document.
    I select the Action radio button, then choose the action I want.
    I click Add button.
    I close Script Events Manager dialog box.
    Everything works as intended, until I quit Photoshop and then launch it again, at which point the Script Events Manager settings have reverted to their default state, without my preferred Open action functioning any more.
    Is there any way to get my settings to become the new default so I don't have to repeat the above steps every time I launch Photoshop?

    Thanks, but I failed to mention I'm running Mac OS X 10.10.2 (Yosemite).
    It reminds me of failure to save preferences problems I've had in the past with other apps. Repairing prefs with Disk Utility doesn't help, BTW.
    Can anyone tell me the file name and location where this Script Events Manager setting is saved? Perhaps deleting that file and restarting will fix the issue…

  • Photos: events places and faces not synching anymore

    I have been synching my photos since April to my iPad. Everything was working fine until a couple of weeks ago it no longer has the events places or faces option anymore. I restored my iPad and synched and it came back. Now after a week the categories are gone again. What is wrong!

    Here's the English version
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/photo-stream.html
    It clearly states
    when you take a photo on one device, it automatically appears on all your other devices. No syncing. No sending. Your photos are just there. Everywhere you want them.
    No mention of Faces and Places there.
    Or
    it automatically imports every picture from your Photo Stream into your photo library so you can edit, delete, and share the ones you want.
    Again, no mention of Faces and Places here, or anywhere on that page.
    It's not a bug. It's just not a feature.

  • Move categories/directory from the keyword tag to the event/place/people tags

    I just upgraded to PSE 12. So now all my organisation folders are under the "keyword" tag. And I have a lot of them. Of course they are organized in folder/subfolders. And the main ones are "places" "events". The same as the default ones in pse.
    So is it possible to move categories/directories from the keyword tag to event/place/people tags (drag and drop doesn't work).
    Thanks.

    I have the same problem. I have had it since PSE 11 but didn't understand why I had two places for persons. I have the same problem with PSE 12 too and now I understand that the problem is there because I upgraded an english PSE 10 to a swedish PSE 11 (and later PSE12).
    Could this be solved in any other way than moving the tags by hand ( I have a lot of people taged)?
    Thanks / Gorbav

  • Grideview Bind Event - Place data in column depending on result

    Hi,
    I wonder if anyone can help?
    I need to bind a Gridview to an SQL query (easily done) but when I bind the data, I need the data to appear in a specific column depending on the date field.
    So essentially the Gridview will hold a financial report, and the value can be a past value received or a future value to be processed, this value is held in the same column in the SQL database and there is nothing to determine whether it is past or future
    value other than the date the report was generated on (I didn't design the database)
    So in case that doesn't make sense, when I run a report in July, I need all fields pre-July to appear in Column A but all fields for July to appear in Column B.
    Thanks in advance for any help

    Hello GRJ28,
    GridView can stands for the following:
    1.ASP.NET GridView(System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebControl GridView)
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.gridview%28v=vs.110%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
    2. WPF GridView(System.Windows.Controls.GridView GridView)
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.controls.gridview(v=vs.110).aspx
    Can you specific your project?
    If it is ASP.NET project, you have to post on ASP.NET forum as "CoolDadTx " mentioned.
    If it is WPF project, here is
    WPF forum and please consider whether you need a button or something to refresh the data. The two-way binding in WPF seems will not trigger when in your scenario. What's more, since you want your GridView change when data changed, you may need to change
    your property of GridView with that button or any event.
    Best regards,
    Barry

  • When I imported an AE3 catalog into AE11 I lost Event & Place tags associ. with photos

    Please help!  I had been using Adobe Elements 3 for many years. Finally I bought Adobe Elements 11. I backed up my Adobe Elements 3 (in XP Mode) catalog. Then I chose 'Restore Catalog' in Adobe Elements 11 to restore the catalog. I had to reconnect all my photos (>6000), which took a while.
    Unfortunately although my old 'keywords' were imported they aren't all associated with photos.
    What worked: the old 'Favorites' were converted to Stars, and any tags in the 'Other' category were retained.
    What didn't work: all tags in the 'Events' or 'Places' categories.
    The only thing I can think of to fix this would be to change all my event and places tags to the 'other' category then backup the catalog and import it again. Hopefully I wouldn't have to reconnect all the photos again.
    Any other suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

    I had some symtoms like yours, but I'd first filtered by People while I was looking for Places and Events tags.  I opened the Tag Info, clicked on Places and got "no media:" because I was actually combining the place with a person.  Places and Events tags worked if I first clicked "media" to show all my pictures, which effectively cleared other tag selections.  Try doing that and then click on one or more arrows next to the tags.  The displayed pictures should filter more with each tag you click.
    I don't get the user model in PSE 11 though.  It puts a check by keyword tags in a narrow horizontal frame at the top of the screen, and that seems like the only place where you can uncheck the filters.  That space is cramped, and hard to scan if you have a long tag list.  It seems more obvious to me to just mark a check by the tag info items themselves in the vertical colums on the right, like PSE 7.  Plus it shows places and events tags under keywords, with blank spaces in the main Places and Events boxes.  Plus you can highlight a folder under "My Folders", collapse the list and forget you aren't seeing all media.  It's confusing at best.

    Welcome to the discussions,
    WHY does it claim to be 8G but my capacity now says its just 6.83
    The size of you HD is calculated binary when it comes to use it, instead of decimal when companies want to advertise there products. 1 KB=1024Byte instead of 1000KB as advertised by the manufacturer. In your case this reduces the actual available space by the factor of 0.93 or approx. 7,4GB.
    If you have an "other" section in your color bar showing the different types of data on your ipod, which is bigger than 500MB, this could be a sign of corrupt data caused by a sync that did not complete or copied damaged data. A restore will reduce the size to normal again.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    If you restore your ipod, iTunes will install the newest firmware first and then add back your data and settings from your last backup if you choose to "restore from backup". Every backup is replaced by the following one, so make sure to include this folder in your backup routine in case you'll have to go back.
    You can check the location and size of the backup folder for your ipod here:
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

  • Certain tunes show greater event-placement smoothness than others

    One thing I always was bothered by, after years of using Master Tracks Pro with its very fine-grain placeability of events in time, was how in GB there was very crude mobility. But recently, on two or three songs that were really loaded with data, I discovered that I could move events IN BETWEEN pixels---a smooth slide left or right rather than big jumps. On other songs (and all newly-created ones) the old low-resolution problems apply. Why am I getting such nice smooth movement on just those few tunes and not on others?

    Also, the timing increment will make it jump big jumps or small jumps, if you want to keep it snapped to the grid. Perhaps the one song that did more of what you wanted was set to 1/64 notes and the others were 1/8 notes? If staying snapped to grid is important, maybe using a 1/64 setting (click the little ruler at the bottom right of the main screen). When using a real instrument, and if I have a not that is off slightly, AND if I can isolate that note, I do turn off grid snap and split the region, then nudge it into place.

  • New event default settings

    this has to be an easy one ---
    why does a new calendar event start on the :15 of the hour? this always happens when i create an event on the calendar....any way to change that? if not, i'd love to hear the rationale behind that decision!
    M

    Greetings,
    How are you creating the event? By double clicking or dragging? If you're dragging you might just be off a bit on where you're starting. If you're double clicking you could be just below the line for the hour, which will then go to the next quarter hour.

  • Workflow and Settings

    Hello,
    I have done some reasarch on line and even called canon but I’m still confused.
    I Have the canon vixia HF M301 wich I can shoot in PF 24 (Cine Mode), 60i (Standard) and PF 30 recorderd in 1,900 x 1,080 (highest setting). There’s also the 24 FPS progressive frame rate effect of the 24p Cinema mode.
    I’ve been using Imovie 11 but I also have the older versions of the Imovie and FCE If I need to.
    All of these settings above are still going over my head and I don’t understand them well.
    All I’m looking for is to find a workflow (like I have with my photos using Apperture).
    I was wondering if somebody can guide though and helping with two questions.
    1- Which of those camera settings would be the most suitable one to create and edit my movies and then export to an external drive to play on a hight def. TV ( I mostly make family movies).
    2- I ususally Copie the intire Card (Raw files) including the card structure to different drive without changing anything. When I import those files into Imovie and create and event, what settings should I use?
    Thanks in advance
    Marcos

    As everything, it depends.
    For most home videos, I would recommend that you shoot 30P with your camera. You will get great images.
    However, if you are filming a sporting event like a soccer match or a football game with a lot of motion, you may get better results shooting 60i.
    For workflow, you should attach the card from your camera to the card reader and open the iMovie import screen. There you have an option to Create a Camera Archive. This will place the entire contents of the card on a hard drive at the location you specify. You can then import into iMovie from the camera archive.  I usually create an archive, then I import to iMovie from the Archive. If all is well, I will reformat (some cameras call this "initialize") my card using the menu on the camera so it is ready for the next shoot. These cards are formatted by the camera is FAT32, so I find if I do not regularly reformat them, they can get corrupted over time.
    When you import, I usually would use the setting to import at Full Size (1920x1080). You can save some space using Large (960x540), but with 30P, you will get better results with Full Size.
    Once you have imported the clips to an iMovie Event, you can adjust almost everything else nondestructively. (trimming clips, adjusting color, adjusting sound). Nothing you do in a Project will alter the physical clips in the Event.
    It is important to realize that the physical clips are stored in the Event. The Project is simply a text file that contains an edit list of all edits and effects that are to be applied when you SHARE (or render) the project using the SHARE menu.

  • Business Event not triggering the PLSQL procedure.. What to do?

    We need to call a plsql procedure when the GL Approval workflow has ended with approval. I thought i could do this by customizing the relevant business event.
    We are on EBS 12.1.3 with RDBMS : 11.2.0.3.0.
    I saw that the business event oracle.apps.gl.Journals.journal.approve was disabled currently. I enabled it and created a subscription for it. Subscription was a PLSQL procedure. Currently, for test purpose only thing it is doing is to insert a row into a table.
    Business Event Subscription settings:
    System: ORDEBS.SYSTEM.COM
    Triggering Event
    Source Type:Local
    Event Filter: oracle.apps.gl.Journals.journal.approve
    Execution Condition
    Phase: 100
    Status: Enabled
    Rule Data: Message
    Action Type:Custom
    On Error: Stop and Rollback
    Action
    PL/SQL Rule Function: XX_GL_APPROVE_BE_PKG.Get_Attributes
    Priority: Normal
    Documentation (Not sure what value to be given for these. I went with the below values.)
    Owner: Company Name
    Owner Tag: Custom Schema
    Using the below query i can see that the business event is getting called when the approval happens (One row added each time approval happened). But I cant see any rows in the table where it should insert a row. What could be going wrong? How can i verify that the procedure has been called?
    select * from WF_DEFERRED where corrid ='APPS:oracle.apps.gl.Journals.journal.approve'
    Procedure:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY APPS.XX_GL_APPROVE_BE_PKG
    AS
    PROCEDURE Get_Attributes
    IS
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO xx.xx_test_table VALUES ('From BE');
    COMMIT;
    END Get_Attributes;
    END XX_GL_APPROVE_BE_PKG;

    Thanks Alejandro. Now this is working.
    Changes i made:
    1. Added the WFERROR workflow as a subscription to this event. So i could see that the function i am calling from the event did not have proper signature.
    2. Changed the function signature to have standard parameters like:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY XX_GL_APPROVE_BE_PKG
    AS
    function subscription(p_subscription_guid in raw,
    p_event in out nocopy wf_event_t) return varchar2 is
    l_result varchar2(20);
    begin
    insert into xxvtv.xxvtv_test_table values ('From BE');
    commit;
    exception
    when others then
    wf_core.context('XX_GL_APPROVE_BE_PKG','function subscription', p_event.getEventName(), p_event.getEventKey());
    wf_event.setErrorInfo(p_event, 'ERROR');
    return 'ERROR';
    end subscription;
    END XX_GL_APPROVE_BE_PKG;
    3. Changed the owner name and owner tag both to the custom schema name (XX)
