Excel Documents "save as" / Shared Documents

If you create a shared folder, MCM create a folder with MCM user as suffix - like "[user]. In Excel is "[" not an allowed character. If you save an Excel Document directly with “save as” in a MCM shared Folder, so appears an error from Excel.
How can I adjust this in MCM?

Hi,
This seems to be an issue with MS Office.
See this: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d2ea4aca-8022-401a-9c45-00a136730078/creating-excel-file-from-windows-start-and-saving-it-under-a-folder-with-name-having-square-?forum=exceldev
Right now the alternative is that you can create the document in the targetted folder directly first and then start editing there.

I am aware of the hotifx https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2817349 this has been installed and doesnt make any difference. I have tired repairing
Microsoft Office and rebooting but doesnt make a difference. Microsft Office 2013 pro is running on Windows 2008 r2 terminal server.

Has anyone had this issue or know if there is a fix?

    Hi,
In regarding of the issue, it might be caused by some reasons:
Firstly, the Outlook and Excel add-ins might cause this issue, please try to disable them to test first. Similar issue:
Secondly, this issue also might be caused by "Mapi32.dll", please rename Mapi32.dll (found in C:\Windows\system32) to Mapi32.old and then run
    FIXMAPI.exe .
Thirdly, check the properties for your outlook shortcut. Under the compatability tab uncheck "run as administrator".
If this issue still exists, please try to collect the app crash dump file to do further troubleshooting:
Enable app crash dump collection by copying following words into notepad, saving it as dump.reg and importing
    it:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\localdumps\EXCEL.EXE]
    "DumpFolder"=hex(2):63,00,3a,00,5c,00,63,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,64,00,75,\
      00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00
    "DumpCount"=dword:00000010
    "DumpType"=dword:00000001
    "CustomDumpFlags"=dword:00000000
    Then, open excel
to repro the issue. If crash issue appeared, please find the crashdump file under c:\.
To further help you, please upload this file into Skydrive and shared the link here.
Also, you can try to analyze dump by yourself if you would like to:

  • Excel 2013 hangs after sharing document per email

    Hello everyone.
We have an issue with Outlook 2013.
If you disable local email caching in Outlook 2013 and you are trying to share a document via email in e.g. Excel (but also Acrobat reader and several other programs) the email gets send, but Excel hangs (not responding).
When you enable the local cache the problem disappears.
This is an issue for us, since we are using ssd's with limited capacity and the cache file can increase untill somewhere between 25 and 30 GB.
Is there a different solution to this issue? And why is this happening in the first place?

    Hi,
Try to test whether the issue will occur to all the computers. If not, then try to repair and disable all the add-ins to check the issue.

Hi, you should be able to create a folder, say at Root of the Partition, then set Rights in Get Info window for both to read & Write.

    Hello Besi,
The following code should work. Try it out.
CALL METHOD OF document 'Protect' EXPORTING

    Hi Experts,
I am getting below error when Exporting data from my one web application to the Excel 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2 ,
    02/29/2012 18:54:50
    Type : System.Exception, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b11a5c481859e569
Message : -2146827284Microsoft Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough available memory or disk space.
    • To make more memory available, close workbooks or programs you no longer need.
    • To free disk space, delete files you no longer need from the disk you are saving to.
The disk space is 30 GB free, I have cleared all the temp files, increased the virtual memory & internet temp files size to max but no luck

You want to use this one here - MMC
    comexp.msc /32
THAT will launch the MMC process
as 32 bit then you'll the Microsoft Excel Application.
    Right Click -> Properties.
What I did at this point was to select the Identity tab and then select "The Interactive User" (the default was "The launching user").  My app pool was already running as "LocalSystem".  I believe by running it as the Interactive User now that it
has the right permissions to save workbooks.
    Everything worked after this.
    This was a tough one!

  • Documents in a shared "SkyDrive Pro" (Sharepoint) folder makes office applications to hang.

    Hello,
I asked the following question in the Office365 community but they could not help me any further and they told me to ask the question here. For the original thread look here: http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/172/p/212129/655853.aspx
Office version: Office Pro 2013 (365 ProPlus)
    Windows version: Windows 7 Pro.
We are using a shared folder on "places" in SharePoint Online with some shared documents we edit from different places. But sometimes when using documents on the drive applications like Excel and Word hangs, and then you have to reboot or kill a couple
of "winword.exe" or "excel.exe" to get them to work again.
I don't know why those "shadow processes" are there, but the problem is only when working with documents on the SkyDrive Pro.
Sometimes when you save to Skydrive the applications hangs and you have to kill the process.
The document seams to be saved tough.
    Kind Regards,
    Noiden

    Hi Noiden,
Please exit your Skydrive Pro and try to use the command %SystemDrive%\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\Groove.exe /clean /all stated in the KB article below to check if it helps:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982279
Please let me know the result.

  • How can I use pages.app to edit an iCloud shared document?

Sharing a pages doc on iCloud is pretty easy. However the recipent/collaborator the document is shared with appears to be able to edit such document only through the browser on iCloud. What if the collaborator has his/her own pages.app installed on the Mac, is it not possible to somehow link or download the shared document so that he/she can use his pages.app on the Mac to do all the editing and viewing?

The second option assumes a service other than Apple's icloud with more direct file management. For example: Download the DropBox apps and set up an account (basic account is free). Load the files to DropBox via Pages using Open in another app, or via the dropbox website in a browser on a computer (the latter would be much quicker). From the Dropbox app, you can open them in Pages and save the file there. Box will do the same thing.
But honestly, just because particular files exist in icloud doesn't mean you actually have to open them on a specific device. Might be much easier to get creative with some folder naming and leave them as is.

  • Office 2013 Will not open documents in a shared folder but 2007 will.

    Hi,
Recently we are testing office 2013 and have noticed a problem. When office attempts to open an Excel or Word document that is stored on a shared drive on the file server it will not open it. When you double click on the document, either word or
Excel, the appropriate Office app opens, but it opens on the start screen, i.e. the one with the templates displayed.
There are no error messages displayed , and it appears that the office app opens twice, i.e you see the splash screen with the app name on it two times in quick succession, however you cannot find two instances of the app open.
If you simply copy the document from the shared drive to the users desktop and then double click the file , the appropriate app opens and the file also opens without a problem.
Also if you go to a client machine with office 2007 loaded on it then the document on the shared drive opens without a problem at all.
The client machine with office 2013 is a Dell E7440 with windows 7 Pro 64bit.
    Thanks in advance

    I think its working now.
Here is what I had to do.
Delete Office from the machine once again, this time using the Microsoft tool to remove all remnants of the office software , then manually check the registry to see all the referenced keys had been removed.
    Reboot.
Copy all the users data to another location on the same machine.
    Delete the users profile.
    Reboot.
Reload office using the link Dell sent me.
    Reboot.
Log in as a domain admin and check that office would open the documents on the file share and it did.
    Reboot.
Log in as the user who’s profile I had deleted so that the profile was recreated.
Attempt to open documents on the file share and it was successful.
Move most of the users data back to the users folder so that his system looked the same as before.
    Reboot.
Try again to use office applications and open documents from the file share and it continued to function correctly.
Waited a day for the user to see how it went and it is still working now.
I have no idea what could have been causing this problem or why doing what I did above fixed it.
I hope the problem does not return.
Now we can move on with more testing to see its suitability to our field service engineers, remote connections and connections to our customer systems will be checked next.

  • Is it possible to save my pages documents as editable PDF's?

I start a new semester (college) in two weeks. I was wondering this partly because one of my professors (from last semester) had a lot of trouble sending pages documents to people who have PC's.
How do I save a pages document as a PDF and not as a ".doc"?
    Thanks!

one of my professors (from last semester) had a lot of trouble sending pages documents to people who have PC's. How do I save a pages document as a PDF and not as a ".doc"?
Microsoft Word was introduced for Macintosh in 1984. The file format of Microsoft Word is application-dependent, that is, both the author and the audience must acquire the selfsame application in order to see shared files. This is true also of Aldus PageMaker (introduced 1985), QuarkXPress (introduced 1987) and any of a very, very long list of file formats specific to one and only one application.
It became clear to all concerned in 1989-1990 that problems would be produced by interchange of digital documents, if there were no conversion from application-dependent archival file formats into application-independent archival file formats. It also became clear to all concerned that there would be two kinds of application-independent archival file formats.
When laser imaging was introduced, developers of laser imaging systems for photographic preparation of the printing surface introduced preparatory-phase page markup languages which are content-oriented and production-phase page description languages which are appearance-oriented. Initially, both were tied to the make and model of laser imaging system.
Page markup languages for a make and model of laser imaging system (essentially the command syntax for the laser imagesetter) meant that if you coded/tagged for one make and model of laser imagesetter, you could not repurpose what you had coded/tagged for another make and model of laser imagesetter. Clearly, this was uneconomical.
This realisation led to SGML Standard Generalised Markup Language under the governance of the International Standards Organisation. SGML is not perfect, among other things it can let you have what are essentially private characters and if porous memory serves it can let you have several coded character sets simultaneously which is undesirable in a content-oriented format.
The same sort of problem was posed by page description languages the first of which was the command syntax for the raster image processor that ran the Monotype Lasercomp introduced in 1976. Page description languages introduce an x-y coordinate design space that is mapped onto an x-y coordinate user space which is the address space of the raster image processor.
Page descriptions that depended on the command syntax for a make and model of laser imagesetter posed problems for portability and page description languages under corporate governance clustered around the companies in the United States that targetted the market for graphic information processing commonly called desktop publishing.
Hewlett-Packard Printer Command Language was introduced into this market in May 1984 when the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet made it to market, driving a wedge between the IBM Personal Computer and the IBM line of non-impact printers. Xerox Interpress made it from the laboratory into the market with the initial documentation of the model in 1985.
Adobe PostScript and Xerox Interpress are along almost all dimensions the same model, developed by some of the same people. Adobe PostScript made it to market through a contract entered into in late 1984 between CEO Steven Jobs of Apple Computer, CEO Dr Wolfgang K u m m e r of Linotype, and CEO Dr John Warnock of Adobe Systems.
Adobe PostScript and Xerox Interpress both support multiple coded character sets simultaneously, although Xerox Interpress favours XCCS Xerox Coded Character Set which is the conceptual precursor of Unicode. Xerox Interpress in addition has a default metric coordinate system and strict page-independent structure that Adobe PostScript does not have.
At the Seybold Conference on Computer Publishing in September 1989, Dr John Warnock stated that the aim was to be able to send a page description around the world. In order to do this, first, the page-dependent structuring of Adobe PostScript had to be converted into a page-indendent structuring principle suited for drawing pages in any order on the digital graphic display.
But neither Adobe PostScript nor Xerox Interpress, being appearance-oriented page descriptions, had a strong concept of a standard coded character set that structured the imaging process. Adobe PostScript is in fact a strategy to overcome drawing on a digital device with small coded character sets containing incompatible constituencies of character codes.
The Adobe PostScript rasteriser deals with glyph names and not with character codes and some sort of solution had to be sought so that source character information could be synthesised in converting page-dependent PostScript into the page-independent page description model of what in June 1993 was introduced as Portable Document Format version 1.0.
This solution is to try to use font-independent glyph identifiers as glyph names so that the conversion from Adobe PostScript to Adobe Portable Document Format carries forward a clue about the source character information. There is no concept in PDF of page text, as if the source character information were contained in the page description.
This is the core of the commercial conflict between Adobe Systems which is trying to preserve its market share for the Adobe Portable Document Format, and to introduce Adobe PDFXML as a more serviceable and more sustainable solution for computerised full phrase cataloguing, and on the other hand Microsoft XPS XML Paper Specification which does indeed have a concept of page text for computerised full phrase cataloguing.

  • How can I have a Pages document that is shared with me under my Pages section and not open it with the link?

How can I have a Pages document that is shared with me under my Pages section and not open it with the link?

    Try this.
Open the document and select and copy a few pages, say ten pages.
Open a new blank document and paste the pages you copied into that.
Save it with a new name.
Work on those new pages to see if the problem has disappeared.
If this helps, continue breaking up the large file in to smaller chunks and working on them
You can of course later reverse the process and merge the files into one new one.
This suggestion is based on my experiences with large Word files. Breaking it up in to smaller chunks does two things. First, if there is any corruption in the old file, the new copies might escape that. Second, the Mac is faster handling the smaller chunks.

  • After saving a file using Excel 2010 in the My Documents folder, it cannot be found using the open button in Excel 2010

When certain files are saved using Excel 2010 to the My Documents folder, they cannot be found by using the Open button within Excel 2010.  But the file is always found using My Computer and following the path to My Documents.  What is
even odder is that if I do a "Save As" within Excel and rename the file to the same name but with a "!" at the beginning of the name, it will then show up in the Excel Open window.  There doesn't seem to be a distinct pattern as to
when the file can or cannot be displayed by the Excel Open button.
I am using Windows 7 64bit along with Office 2010 64bit.  Windows has current service packs and updates.  There are perhaps 200 - 400 Excel files in the My documents folder. Some of them are .XLS and some are .XLSX.
    William Fearn

    Hi,
Do you mean that you can't find the Excel file when you click Excel->Open->My Documents folder?
Do you use the other folder path to test?
Dose the issue occur in other Office suits (Word, Power Point)?
Do you get some error message, like "Windows cannot find 'FilePath\FileName', Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."?
    Please try the following methods:
    Method1:
    1. Go to the registry. Click START, and in the RUN command line type REGEDIT and hit ENTER or click OK.
    2. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.8\Shell\Open\Command
    3. Double click on the (Default) instance over to the right. Right now this probably says something like:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE /dde
    Change this value to:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE /e "%1"
    4. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\Shell\Open\Command
Again, double click the (Default) entry to the right and change
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE /dde
    to
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE /e "%1"
Note : Please backup the registry key before you modify.
    Method2:
Click the File tab, and then click Options.
Click Advanced, scroll down to the General
section, and then clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box in the
    General area.

  • How do I download a shared document with markups and comments?

I have a pdf document that was shared (in a share pod) during a collaborative meeting and is still in the virtual meeting room. I need to download it and edit. When I "save as", the document opens on my computer in the original state; with no markups and no comments. There MUST be a way to save or download the document in order to make the changes. Any ideas?
    Thanks...

I do not think it is possible. When a pdf is imported into Adobe Connect it converts it to an swf and one actually edits on a white board and not on the actual pdf.
A possible work around would be to share your desktop and work directly on your desktop. In so doing you are actually editing the document itself.
