Exception while failing over to 2nd RAC Node
We are using Weblogic 10.3.4. Our setup is that we have a Web Application (A tapestry front end Web UI) and EJb 2.1 back-end talking to the Oracle database. The EJB’s are CMP. Our product always was just stand alone and it wasn’t until this release we needed to make it work with RAC. To get this to work we followed the model of having a Multidatasource with datasources pointing to our RAC nodes. We have two types of datasources that we use persistent and non-persistent. And we are using the Oracle thin driver – non-XA for RAC Service Instances, supporting global transactions.
When we do failover to the 2nd node we get a nasty exception in our GUI but after logging out and logging back it we are fine.
My question is that I assumed I shouldn't have to restart our web-application and it should have stayed up ?? Or is there something wrong with our setup ?
Thanks,
Ian
Showing us the exception and/or the error messages at the server might help...
Note that failing over does not save any ongoing connection or transaction that
had been to the dead RAC node... Does your web-app get-use-close JDBC
connections on a per-user-invoke basis, or does it hold onto connections?

3 node cluster with 1 vInstance. vInstance can not to fail-over to one specific node.
I have a 3 node cluster all running Windows Server 2008 R2. Roughly once a month I see my vInstance become degraded and attempt to fail-over. Everything is good as long as it fail-over to SQL01 or SQL02. However if it attempts to fail-over to SQL03, it does
not come online
Quick resolution is to move it manually to SQL01 or SQL02. What could be causing it to fail every time on SQL03.
A couple points:
I did not build the environment.
I am not a DBA.
I only have general knowledge of SQL clustering.
I always get two EVENT ID's: 1069
Cluster resource 'SQL Server (VSQL04)' in clustered service or application 'SQL Server (VSQL04)' failed.
and then
EVENT ID 1205
The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'SQL Server (VSQL04)' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application.
Where should I begin to look for issues? Here is the cluster event prior to offline state. I will have to go check the cluster log.
The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'SQL Server (VSQL04)' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application.
i do not think this helps.. it just says..a resource in offline state.. you need to dig more and see which one it is and why it did not come banck on ..it should be mentioned in the log and\or event viewer.
Hope it Helps!! -
Problem while running root.sh in RAC Node
I am currently configuring RAC on linux using VMWARE Server using the following link .My host Operating System is Windows XP and guest O/S Cent OS.Shared disks have been configured on my C drive for ocr, voting disk, asm.
http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gR2RACInstallationOnCentos4UsingVMware.php
I have performed all the steps succesfully but during the installation of Clusterware Software from node RAC1 it asks for the execution of root.sh from both the nodes.
Currently I am running root.sh from first node but it gets hanged at "Startup will be queued to init within 90 seconds" and doesn't move from there on..Also according to the link I am following I should be experiencing below output while running root.sh from Node RAC2 instead of RAC1 which I am experiencing....Please suggest on this ...

ASA5505 2nd tunnel to fail over to 2nd network
Hello
We have remote sites using Cisco ASA5505s - we link into the Network via Data Centre 'A'. we now have a Disaster Recovery Server at Data Centre 'B' (in a different geographical Location) is it possible to configure the ASA5505 so that if Data centre 'A' goes down then the ASA5505 would pick up either automatically or on a reboot Data Centre 'B' (the peer address being different at each Data Centre)
help would be appreciated, many thanks in anticipation
derekDNS typically doesn't work for security appliances. They like to have solid IP addresses, possibly because DNS will allow the potential for a VPN to be redirected to another host, compromising the security of the channel.

WDRuntimeException: Failed to create J2EE cluster node in SLD
Hello,
I am getting the below error, but to my knowledge I have everything set up properly. Let me briefly outline the logistics (I am running everything LOCALLY (will move to remote later)):
WAS 6.4 <b>SP12</b>
Set up JCo and tests fine
Set up Visual Administrator / SLD Data Supplier / HTTP and CIM configured and seem to test fine
Created SLD and it tests OK
Created Technical Landscape
I have noticed that in SP12, in the SLD config I actually have a NEW category called "<b>System Landscape</b>" above my "Technical Landscape" link. I have not seen this option in previous versions SP9 or SP11. Is it mandatory to configure this?
Also, I created a model for Adaptive RFC and found the function I needed successfully.
Anyway, here is the error when trying to deploy...
com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.WDRuntimeException: Error while obtaining JCO connection.
at com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.datatypes.core.DataTypeBroker$1.fillSldConnection(DataTypeBroker.java:90)
Caused by: com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.sal.sl.api.WDSystemLandscapeException: Error while obtaining JCO connection.
Caused by: com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.WDRuntimeException: Failed to create J2EE cluster node in SLD for 'J2E.SystemHome.bc347792': com.sap.lcr.api.cimclient.LcrException: CIM_ERR_NOT_FOUND: No such instance: SAP_J2EEEngineCluster.CreationClassName="SAP_J2EEEngineCluster",Name="J2E.SystemHome.bc347792"
Any help will be appreciated!I figured it out for those that may have a similar problem.
Although I had created and tested my JCo's properly and they were working fine, somehow, and I still don't know why, they went RED in the JCo Maintainence screen.
I had to "create" again and it works fine now. -
Load balancing / fail over
Dear forum,
Is there an other and more simple / "cheaper" way for load balancing / fail over then using RAC ? E.g. starting more instances againts the (same) database ?
Thanks in advance,
Michel
Edited by: Michel77 on Dec 9, 2008 12:06 PMThe answer would be highly platform and version dependent.
On several platforms you have software implementing a 'shared nothing cluster'. This means you failover complete services to a second server, which is usually dormant.
There is HP Service Guard, Suncluster, IBM HACMP, and Microsoft cluster, which are or can be configured as shared nothing clusters.
For Microsoft there was or is, depending on version, Oracle Failsafe, on top of a MS Cluster.
RAC can be configured in a shared nothing mode too. RAC itself is essentially active/active.
On the other side, you can of course buy a second server, and use Dataguard to set up a standby database.
For a physical standby database, which isn't enabled for more than 10 days, you don't pay a license.
Setting up multiple instances on a single server is obviously not going to work. Those instances need to coordinate what they are doing. This is essentially the task of RAC.

Thin Client connection not failing over
I'm using the following thin client connection and the sessions do not failover. Test with SQLPLUS and the sessions do fail over. One difference I see between the two different connections is the thin connection has NONE for the failover_method and failover_type but the SQLPLUS connection show BASIC for failover_method and SELECT for failover_type.
Is there any issues with the thin client the version is 10.2.0.3
jdbc:oracle:thin:@(description=(address_list=(load_balance=YES)(address=(protocol=tcp)(host=crpu306-vip.wm.com)(port=1521))(address=(protocol=tcp)(host=crpu307-vip.wm.com)(port=1521)))(connect_data=(service_name=ocsqat02)(failover_mode=(type=select)(method=basic)(DELAY=5)(RETRIES=180))))You have to use (FAILOVER=on) as well on jdbc url.

Example: TAF with Connect-Time Failover and Client Load Balancing
Implement TAF with connect-time failover and client load balancing for multiple addresses. In the following example, Oracle Net connects randomly to one of the protocol addresses on sales1-server or sales2-server. If the instance fails after the connection, the TAF application fails over to the other node's listener, reserving any SELECT statements in progress.sales.us.acme.com=

*(FAILOVER=on)*

(PROTOCOL=tcp)

(HOST=sales2-server)
(PORT=1521))
(CONNECT_DATA=
(SERVICE_NAME=sales.us.acme.com)
*(FAILOVER_MODE=*
*(TYPE=select)*
*(METHOD=basic))))*
Example: TAF Retrying a Connection
TAF also provides the ability to automatically retry connecting if the first connection attempt fails with the RETRIES and DELAY parameters. In the following example, Oracle Net tries to reconnect to the listener on sales1-server. If the failover connection fails, Oracle Net waits 15 seconds before trying to reconnect again. Oracle Net attempts to reconnect up to 20 times.sales.us.acme.com=

javax.naming.NameNotFoundException. Root exception is
org.omg.CosNaming.NamingContextPackage.NotFound
=================
Below is the line of my LoginServlet class which is
referred to in the stack trace - Object object =
context.lookup
( "java:comp/env/ejb/WarehouseClerk" );The root of the naming context is 'java:comp/env' and this is where lookup automatically begins for EJBs and resources. IOW, by specifying "java:comp/env/ejb/WarehouseClerk" as the EJB lookup name the server is actually treating this as "java:comp/env/java:comp/env/ejb/WarehouseClerk". Specify only the ejb context ("ejb/WarehouseClerk") in your lookup and you should be fine.
Any help would be most appreciated.

yes. my lan2 is used for Cluster_interconnect which is having subnet 255.255.255.240.
Below are IPs used for RAC
Public
Node1: 10.10.1.173/255.255.240.0
Node2: 10.10.1.174/255.255.240.0
Private
Node1: 10.10.16.50/255.255.255.240
Node2: 10.10.16.51/255.255.255.240
Virtual
Node1: 10.10.1.191/255.255.240.0
Node2: 10.10.1.192/255.255.240.0
SCAN (Defined in DNS)
10.10.1.193/255.255.240.0
10.10.1.194/255.255.240.0
10.10.1.195/255.255.240.0
As you said, I will scrap GI Software again & will try with 255.255.255.0.
I Believe this Redundant Interconnect and ora.cluster_interconnect.haip present in 11.2.0.2.0 Version.
Oracle says:
Redundant Interconnect without any 3rd-party IP failover technology (bond, IPMP or similar) is supported natively by Grid Infrastructure starting from 11.2.0.2. Multiple private network adapters can be defined either during the installation phase or afterward using the oifcfg. Oracle Database, CSS, OCR, CRS, CTSS, and EVM components in 11.2.0.2 employ it automatically.
Grid Infrastructure can activate a maximum of four private network adapters at a time even if more are defined. The ora.cluster_interconnect.haip resource will start one to four link local HAIP on private network adapters for interconnect communication for Oracle RAC, Oracle ASM, and Oracle ACFS etc.
Grid automatically picks link local addresses from reserved 169.254.*.* subnet for HAIP, and it will not attempt to use any 169.254.*.* address if it's already in use for another purpose. With HAIP, by default, interconnect traffic will be load balanced across all active interconnect interfaces, and corresponding HAIP address will be failed over transparently to other adapters if one fails or becomes non-communicative. .
The number of HAIP addresses is decided by how many private network adapters are active when Grid comes up on the first node in the cluster . If there's only one active private network, Grid will create one; if two, Grid will create two; and if more than two, Grid will create four HAIPs. The number of HAIPs won't change even if more private network adapters are activated later, a restart of clusterware on all nodes is required for new adapters to become effective.
In my Setup, I am having Teaming for NIC's for Public & Private Interface. So I am thinking to break teaming of NICs because HAIP internally searching for next available NIC & not getting as all 4 are already in used with OS level NIC teaming.
My only Concern is, as I am going to change subnet for the Private IPs, should I change Private IP address ????
Thanks for the Support...
Regards,
Manish -
Failing over after WRITE_ERROR_TO_SERVER exception in sendRequest()
Hi
I am getting below error in my issproxy.log file. I wanted to see the source of this URL.cpp file to find out why it is failing. I am not able to open them using DLL decompiler as well.
Could anyone tell me where can I get the source code for iisproxy.dll and iisforward.dll ?
This request is failing only when the request is routed from IIS.

Essentially you should be doing one of the following on weblogic side:
1) Installed Certs on weblogic that were obtained from a commercial CA. (like verisign, thawte etc)
In this case, you will receive rootCA crt along with the other bundled certs and private key.
these rootCA certs are publicly available (your browser will be already using them)
2) Using certs signed by your company. (companies can maintain their own CA)
In this case you should be having a rootCA cert from your company.
3) using demo certs that were shipped with weblogic.
In this case, the rootca cert can be obtained from DemoTrust.jks
this is documented at http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs90/plugins/isapi.html#114851 (should be same for any plugins)
Apache plug-in can understand .crt extension.

After adding 2nd WiSM and failing over AP's some apps don't work
We have a dual core made up of 2 6513's. In 6513#1 we have WiSM#1 which we have had for sometime now. We have added a 2nd WiSM in 6513#2 for redundancy purposes also we are going to be re-configuring the WiSM in 6513#1 to more match that of the new WiSM in 6513#2. We have installed the new WiSM and failed over the AP's from 6513#1 so we can re-configure it's WiSM. The failover went great and no issues, with the exception that a web application or two didn't function from wireless clients and users were having issues getting to some mapped drives. The only difference from the new WiSM config vs the old WiSM is that on the old WiSM the AP's were in the same VLAN as the controller management interfaces. Now with the new WiSM it's configuration has the controllers AP mgt interfaces ip addresses in a different VLAN from the AP's, we are doing this based on Cisco best practices. If we revert the AP's back to the original WiSM/controllers the PC's where they are on the same vlan/subnet the applications and shares that were having issues the other way work. We have placed a call with Cisco TAC and they say our configs look good and we even sent them some packet captures and they said everything looks normal. The wireless clients can ping and resolve the server hosting the application database just fine.
ThanksWe did create the mobility groups, and we are using DHCP opt 43. The AP's find the 2nd WiSM#2 just fine and associate to the controllers and all the WLAN's work just fine. The only issue is that after the AP's are on the new WiSM and controllers there is an application or 2 that is having trouble locating it's database server and that some share's are not working. Again the only difference in this new setup in that now the AP's are on a different subnet/vlan from the controller mgt addresses where as before they were in the same subnet/vlan and the application and shares worked fine. It's almost like it is a bit of a routing issue?

Is there a way to config WLS to fail over from a primary RAC cluster to a DR RAC cluster?
Here's the situation:
We have two Oracle RAC clusters, one in a primary site, and the other in a DR site
Although they run active/active using some sort of replication (Oracle Streams? not sure), we are being asked to use only the one currently being used as the primary to prevent latency & conflict issues
We are using this only for read-only queries.
We are not concerned with XA
We're using WebLogic 10.3.5 with MultiDatasources, using the Oracle Thin driver (non-XA for this use case) for instances
I know how to set up MultiDatasources for an individual RAC cluster, and I have been doing that for years.
Question:
Is there a way to configure MultiDatasources (mDS) in WebLogic to allow for automatic failover between the two clusters, or does the app have to be coded to failover from an mDS that's not working to one that's working (with preference to a currently labelled "primary" site).
Note:
We still want to have load balancing across the current "primary" cluster's members
Is there a "best practice" here?Hi Steve,
There are 2 ways to connect WLS to a Oracle RAC.
1. Use the Oracle RAC service URL which contains the details of all the RAC nodes and the respective IP address and DNS.
2. Connect to the primary cluster as you are currently doing and use a MDS to load-balance/failover between multiple nodes in the primary RAC (if applicable).
In case of a primary RAC nodes failure and switch to DR RAC nodes, use WLST scripts to change the connection URL and restart the application to remove any old connections.
Such DB fail-over tests can be conducted in a test/reference environment to set up the required log monitoring and subsequent steps to measure the timelines.
Thanks,
Souvik. -
License Probelm Fail over node.
Dear Gurus,
I am reciving an error while applying the liscense to the fail over server.

My Production system no is 00000000031XXXXXXX but the license key is for 00000000031XYYYYY.
I am anot able to login to fail over node due to this.
How can I resolve this problem ?
Sachinsachin,
how r u applying the license through slicense???
unable to login in failover?? have u deleted the temporary license??? or has it crossed 4 weeks??
if u have deleted the temp license apply the license through visual admin
if it has crossed 4 weeks , revert the date backwards and apply license
u must have applied for a license in oss using other system with same sid,
u have to copy the system number from the node u have applied license on and apply for a license under the same system in the oss and give the system number.
when u get the license apply as mentioned above. -

I have tried changing the "DataSourceMode" as below, now the insert command is working, but update command is not working.
<SharePoint:SPDataSource runat="server" DataSourceMode="ListItem" />
Also, the lookup dropdown fields are displaying the value as "<a href="Daughterhttp://cpsp10/sites/Employees/_layouts/listform.aspx?PageType=4&ListId={8F62F444-FB6A-4F03-9522-C4696B45DCD1}&ID=10&RootFolder=*">Daughter</a>"
instead of only "Daughter".
Please provide the solution to get rid of this issue.
Thanks

While there can be many causes for this generic error message, in my case the first parameter or ddwrt:DataBind function inside the SharePoint:FormFields element was
'i' and I was working with an Edit Form. Changing it to
'u' as it was with every other FormField fixed the issue.
<SharePoint:FormField runat="server" id="ff1{$Pos}" ControlMode="Edit" FieldName="Esittaja" __designer:bind="{ddwrt:DataBind('u',concat('ff1',$Pos),'Value','ValueChanged','ID',ddwrt:EscapeDelims(string(@ID)),'@Esittaja')}"
/>
Explanation:
DataBind operation type parameters (the first parameter) are listed below:
'i' stands for INSERT,
'u' stands for UPDATE,
'd' stands for DELETE.
