Exchange and LDAP Installation

On a virtual machine I've installed Creative Suite 2 (Reader Extension, JBoss, MySql, Workbench, Flash, Reader).  In regards to Exchange Server and LDAP...what information do I need to provide my Information System server administration to install the two items above.  Do I just say I need LDAP Server (Microsoft Active Directory 2003) and Microsoft Exchange 2003?  How specific do I need to be?

I'm assuming you mean Microsoft Exchange.
Exchange settings can be accessed through Active Directory (which has an LDAP interface).

    Hey Guys,
    Urgent question here:  I was trying to install SP3 for Exchange 2010. Unfortunately it failed on the install (all pre-requisites checked and passed). The problem: Windows Installer couldn't find a the exchangeserver.msi file. This happened immediately
    after setup stopped the services.
    I tried re-downloading the service pack and reinstalling, I got the same error. Anytime I selected the file using browse it failed and re-prompted me.
    Error:
    "click ok to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "exchangeserver.msi" in the box below"
    So here is what I did:
    1) I reset all the services to automatic (the same way as before)
    2) Rebooted the server
    3) All Service started
    4) DAG replication is working
    I am going to work on figuring out how to fix the issue, however will this be a problem? will there be any data corruption? am I safe to let the server sit until I can open a ticket (if needed) ?

    Hi,
    Thank you for your question.
    In order to resolve it, we could click the Browse button in the dialog box, locate the ExchangeServer.msi file, and then click OK
    to continue the installation. The ExchangeServer.msi file is located on the Exchange Server 2010 installation media。

  • Can't see Exchange Server after installation

    I know it must be simple, but after installation of Exchange Server 2013 on Server 2012 R2 and getting the "successful" installation message, I can't find the server. It was not problem on Server 2008 and Exchange 2010.
    Any ideas as to where I should go to look for Exchange?  I can't even setup mailboxes???!!!
    I really am lost on this one.

    In addition to above: make sure that Exchange 2013 is installed correctly. Check Exchange installation logs and run the Get-ExchangeServer command using Exchange Management Shell on the new server. You should see both Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 servers.

  • Policies - how to best "protect" an LDAP installation?

    Hello. This isn't as much a technical question. I've been looking "all over the Internet" to see what people might have found to work before. If only there was some "How to run and protect your LDAP installation - best practices" guide somewhere :D
    When you're the administrator of an LDAP installation, how do you deal with things when someone in your organization comes with some application they want to hook up to the LDAP? My main concern here isn't LDAP browsers etc, but bigger applications that use LDAP all the time.
    Do you just give them the Directory Manager password and tell them to just go ahead, or do you instead make separate users for them? One user for each application?
    Also, how do you go about determining which permissions to set for those users? (in my experience, the ones bringing in an application hardly ever knows what it needs to work)

    First, you should avoid using the Directory Manager account, it's best practice to create administrator accounts and/or groups instead.
    Remember that the Directory Manager bypasses not only ACI's but also any limit (number of entries sent, search time limit and so on).
    Then, depending on your security requirements, you could have an "anonymous access" rule, which is usually enough for lots of applications,
    as far as you only need read access. Any authenticated access will also inherit the anonymous access rights
    You should then create dedicated acccounts for applications that need "more than usual" rights, that is write rights or readability of usually
    hidden entries or attributes.
    If you don't know what exactly an application requires, just ask yourself what this application is used for, it should give you some hints. You
    should also test it in a empirical manner, including all your use cases, starting with the least rights, and then have a look at the directory
    server logs and possibly your application logs too. It should help you determine what are exactly the required rights.

    I am currently running portal 4.0 sp2 in production. We are thinking about converting
    to an LDAP (maybe openldap) as our security realm and uup storage area. We believe
    that we will get some better performance; also we are getting ready to go from
    25k users to 4 million users. We are also thinking about upgrading to portal
    7.x here really soon. I have read the portal 7.x's edocs and see many references
    to portal and rdbms but nothing about portal and ldap even the uup information
    in edocs only references the rdbms realm.
    Does anyone know of any issues with portal 7.x and using ldap as the realm and
    uup storage area? Does anyone see any gotcha’s in the above scenario?

    Based on your response to Eugene Khosid's post "WL 7.0 and MS Active
    Directory" I went and checked to see if the user I was using to boot
    weblogic was a member of "Administrators" in the domain, it wasn't. I will
    test this further this afternoon.
    With regards to the configuration, am I correct in thinking that the default
    settings are inadequate to for accessing a default Active Directory
    installation?
    I changed the following:
    User Name Attribute: sAMAccountName
    User Dynamic Group NC Attribute: memberOf
    User Base DN: cn=users, dc=<my_domain>,dc=com
    Group Base DN: cn=users,dc=<my_domain>,dc=com
    I was at a total loss for the membership properties.

    I want to configure SSL between my ITS and the LDAP, but I read in note 456666 that it is only possible for Microsoft Windows and my ITS is Linux.

    636 is normally the secure port or the LDAP SSL port, but this depends on the directory server and additionaly things also.
    Therefore I advise you to use example or SDK coding from your directory server or vendor. Normally things like certificate exchange / key exchange and configuration needed to ensure the secure configuration.
    All these things are vendor dependend steps and therefore SAP has no documentation about it,e.g. Novell directory server has a SDK with example coding for SSL connections. This coding in combination with SAPs PAS SDK can be used to build a shared library with LDAP SSL.

  • Exchange 2013 CU6 installation hangs on step 9: Languages

    Just had Exchange 2013 CU6 update hang on Step 9 of 18: Languages.  It was stuck at 0% for almost an hour.  I was able to get it moving forward by disabling SCEP 2012 by killing the process and deselecting check certificate for server certificate
    revocation in IE.  Both steps were taken nearly simultaneously and the install process for Exchange jumped up immediately. Both steps were taken based on info from:

    I have installed Win2000 + sp1 and ADS on a computer. This computer is PDC.
    After connection via LDAP I cann't get any object ( users or goups etc. ).
    I try connect to ADS by java ( JNDI ).
    When I use another clients of LDAP ( eg. Maxware Directory Explorer) I have
    the same problem - no objects.

  • I have Exchange and Yahoo accounts on my iPhone 4. At least 1 email a day I send as a reply fails to leave my outbox of my Exchange account.

    I have Exchange and Yahoo accounts on my iPhone 4. At least 1 email I send from out thru my Exchange account fails to send and it simply refuses to leave the outbox. The only guaranteed way of sending it is to change the sender to my yahoo account. Note that is ONLY occurs on replies to existing emails, never new emails.
    It is only certain mails that fail. Even if I delete the mail and write another reply it will still fail.
    Could it be content related? It happened on IOS4 & 5.
    I've asked one of the staff in the Apple shop and he said he's seen this before but doesnt know the answer - not really helpful if you're trying to work off your iPhone :-(

    I would agree with you if I still couldnt send the reply by changing the sender to my yahoo account; but as I mentioned before - whenever the mail fails to send, I can ALWAYS send it by changing the sender to my yahoo account.
    I agree that it must be something within the original mail, but why does it trigger a failure if I reply from my exchange account and not my yahoo yahoo account.
    I can delete the Exchange account and re-add it, but it makes no difference. I've also rebooted the phone but again, no difference.

    I'm having a similar problem, but I do have the key and is not working anyway.
    My old pc was running on windows 7 and my new one is an apple running on Lion.
    My phone is an Iphone IV and I can see all the bookmarks there.
    In order to sync, what I did was click on the "I don't have the device with me", I entered the key that was provided and the process finish ok. It says congratulations, etc, etc.
    But the bookmarks are not there, I tried merging data and replacing data on this computer options but is the same.
    Any suggestions?

We rebooted and can log into Novell client but the login prompt did not appear for ESM client or the icon was not in the systray. Everything seems to work, besides at times (a couple times today) it terminates his ethernet card/connection. I would re-image his computer but he has several applications and it would take several hours, so I am hoping someone has an idea to fix this issue. So I was trying to figure out why he did not get the prompt to login and why it's not in the systray and it appears to not have completed the install? I checked the add/remove programs, its not listed within their, I also checked the registry and found nothing for endpoint within their, but the files are within c:\program files\novell\zenworks endpoint security.
    I have also tried uninstalling it but that fails due to it "not being installed", and it will not reinstall over itself either.
    I did notice that stuninstdrv.exe is running in task manager. Any help would be great...

    If you are searching the registry, check for the "Senforce" string. It should be at HKLM\Software\Senforce
    Try running the install program for the ZSC with the following command line:
    setup.exe /V"STUNINSTALL=1"
    If you've specified an uninstall password, try this one instead:
    setup.exe /V"STUNINSTALL=1 STUIP=password"" (please note the double quote at the end)

  • Single sign-on using Kerberos and Ldap

    I am currently setting up single sign-on using Kerberos for authentication and Ldap for authorization and information store.
    The setup includes several Solaris 8 & 9 workstations, a couple of SGI's, as well as a M$ terminal server farm, several WinXP desktops and their associated Active Directory.
    I am required to authenticate etc against the AD. (which has M$ SFU3.5 installed)
    I have the Kerberos authentication and part of the Ldap service working via pam & nss.
    ie. I can logon to the solaris worksatations using the AD username and password, mount the home directory from a M$ NFS server.
    BUT...
    id gives:- userID, groupID (primary group only)
    groups :- primary group only. (no secondary groups are listed)
    Question: what additional configuration information do I need in the pam, nss &/or ldap config files, so that I can list the secondary groups.

    After evaluating (giving up on, and finally throwing out) the Sun Directory server it looks like we are going to endup with a similar solution..
    Sadly enough, the MS AD seems much more stable and easier to handle than Suns DS, kerberos and associated services.
    Anyway, currently we are evaluating a product called vintela ( www.vintela.com ), and it seems very promising; its easy, robust, stable and does what we require it to do, as well as more :) It comes with an additional nss module called 'vas', so you easily can retrieve data like hosts/groups from your AD.

  • Home Environmen​t - How to set up Update Retriever (UR) and Thin Installer (TI) in a home environmen​t

    a) specify the download folder, pick a place all clients can access. Create a new folder, TI will be confused if there is other stuff in it.
    b) change the settings to Severity -- Optional (assuming you want to see critical, recommended and optional downloads in the list), License -- Do not display and Status -- Active. After clicking next you enter the machine type, the op system and its language for each client you need to keep updated. Note that unless you change status to active everything will download as "test" and thus not be installed by the Thin Installer.
    4. Run the download, about 1 - 1.5GB for the first type, opsys and language combination  and an additional 0.5 - 1GB for each additional type depending on amount of overlap. You can be selective what you download but if you are an average home user -- just download all the items for your type/opsys/language combination(s) -- Thin Installer is a stripped down version of System Update and will decide what to install on the individual client. This is a one-time download, next time you run Update Retriever it will just download new drivers.
    5. To initialize TI on each client, copy the program from the Program Files directory and paste a shortcut to the desktop. Then rightclick on the shortcut and choose Properties, and in the target field of the shortcut tab after "C:\Program Files\ThinInstaller\ThinInstaller.exe" add the following: -repository your_UR_download_directory.
    6. Run the Thin installer on each client, it will perform exactly as System Update did, down to making the same mistakes that System Update did.
    7. As the date is getting close when Windows Update will start distributing Vista SP2 you may want to consider using Microsoft's SPBlockerTools preventing SP2 installation for up to 12 months.
    8. Debugging Tips
    TI ending with message An error occurred while gathering user information is reported when running under Vista SP2 -- TI will not run in SP2. 
    Getting TI to "see" the database downloaded by UR is the main problem. If TI ends with a message saying corrupt or not found database you probably made a spelling mistake in the directory specified in the -repository parameter. If TI ends with a message saying no applicable packages to install it can mean a number of things:
    a) If you are unused to modifying the parameters in a shortcut you may have added -repository to the second field in the shortcut tab instead of the top field labeled Target, the two fields look very similar or you just made a typo in "-repository".
    b) Open UR again and first choose Modify settings on the left and double check that the directory there is the same directory you specified in -repository. Then choose Manage repository -- Update view and double check that all packages have status Active. If they don't it's not necessary to download again, just select all and hit the modify button to change status from Test to Active.
    c) In C:\Program Files\ThinInstaller\logs there are update logs from TI. Open one using Notepad and in edit menu search for the string
    Message: 'Share name' to use:
    This will tell you in which directory TI is searching for the updates. If it can't find a -repository parameter it uses an empty default databse
    d) If you used System Update regularly up to when it stopped working on April 1 and if you have an older model with not so many new driver updates it may actually happen that there are no new updates for your machine (even though you downloaded a lot.) Go to here and enter all fields except model to see what Lenovo shipped after April 1. (Don't click on driver matrices, staying on the downloads and drivers pages will give you a list in chronological order with the ones after April 1 at the top.)  Also  be aware that the database UR downloads from is at least 2 weeks behind when the drivers first become available on the web. Right now, the only new download in the database  applicable to most notebooks after April 1 is the Access Connections 5.22 driver. To check what release you have installed open Access Connections and go to help.
    I just did a clean install of a Vista64 system on my T500 and after installing the first few drivers manually (including drivers for harddisk and ethernet) let Thin Installer install the remaining 36 items for me. The only item left to fix was the known bug in the Ricoh 4 in 1 card driver SU installation. (For a clean install you need to run TI or SU more than once, it doesn't find all drivers the first time.)

    Did you change status from test to active in UR before downloading? If not you can change the downloaded items in the manage repository menu.
    Assuming the items you did download were not already installed on your client with TI it should work.

    I guess that was a bit cryptic.  I'm trying to update iPhoto from system 10.5.6, a PowerPC system, to 10.8.  The app I downloaded is iPhotoLibraryUpgrader.dmg. I open that and I see Iphoto Library Upgrader.pkg.  Igo through the install, which says it completes successfully.  However, when I double-click on the iPhoto icon on the dock, I get the oroginal message that the upgrade must be installed.  I hope this gives enough information to diagnose the problem.  I apologize for the first message's laack of detail.
