EXIF Metadata not exported

Each time I tried to export after development from a RAW file I got as "created date" the date I made the modification. Never the original date when I took the picture. I tried various options for export. My LR version is 5.3 installed bt upgrade on a 3 version, running on MAC Lion
Anyway I have a second MAC with directly the 5 version and got the same
Hope somebody can help

Ian, I played with exiftool a bit, turns out you are right. But if you update the GPS (or any other property I assume) data _after importing the master file in Aperture, any exported version will be correctly tagged. So do you think a tool like yours GPS2Aperture could update both aperture's database (so we can see the values in Aperture's exif fields) and the masterfile itself?

  • Exif metadata not displayed in Metadata panel & searching

Is there a way to customize the exif and/or IPTC data shown in the Metadata panel in LR 5?
And is there a way to search and/or filter on metadata not in that panel?
I needed to find some photos that have the exif category "art filter" and I cannot search for the value in that field in LR, nor does that field show up in the metadata panel. I can see it with J. Friedl's metadata plugin, or in GraphicConverter, so I know it's there. I tried searching on the text, but LR doesn't find it. What I'd really love is the feature where you have the little arrow by the metadata value in the panel and click it to filter by that criteria.
Is there a way to get LR to recognize and display other exif or IPTC data?

I'm not sure which metadata field you want to search -- is it the IPTC field "Category"?  That field is displayed in Metadata > IPTC panel in the right column:
Unfortunately, that field is not searchable using LR's text search filter or smart collections.
In general, to view and search metadata fields not fully handled by LR, you've got to use a third-party plugin:
    - Metadata Extensions makes additional fields that LR knows about searchable using the filter bar and smart collections.
    - ExifMeta makes nearly all metadata fields viewable and searchable in LR.
    - Data Explorer lets you more quickly view, search, and browse more of the fields that LR knows about.
    - Any Filter lets you search any field LR knows about, writing boolean search queries similar to smart collections.
These plugins have different capabilities and are optimized for different use cases.

  • GPS metadata not exporting properly to JPEG

I'm shooting in RAW (Nikon NEF) and using a third party tool to geotag my photos.  It creates an XMP file for each of my raw images and includes the keywords and GPS coordinates.  Lightroom is able to read and display this content properly.
When I export my photos to JPEG, however, the GPS data seems to be getting "corrupted".  If I look at the JPEG properties in Windows Explorer, here's what I see:
There's something wrong with the latitude and longitude, but altitude appears OK.  When I upload the files to SmugMug, it doesn't seem to recognize any GPS data either.
Is this a bug in Lightroom, or am I doing something wrong?  FWIW I am using version 2.4 64-bit.

I had been experiencing this very same problem, and it drove me crazy. Luckily, after searching for the answer on multiple forums, I found a solution. MetaX is a program designed specifically for tagging iTunes movies. Not only can you manually input all the required information, but you can also automatically input all the information from outside sources from within the program. It worked beautifully for me with my copy of Donnie Darko, which I ripped using HandBrake.

  • IPhoto geotags not save in EXIF metadata

Why if I geotag a picture using iPhoto, that geotag won't be saved into the EXIF metadata? Exporting for example that picture in, say, Adobe Lightroom, or uploading it to Flickr won't show the location I picked in iPhoto, simply because that information is not stored in the EXIF metadata.
Is it this behaviour what iPhoto is supposed to do? Or is it a bug? Conversely, if I geotag a picture in Lightroom, that geotag will be saved in the EXIF metadata, and correctly read by any other application

iPhoto stores the location data in the edited version and does not write it into the original image file. To create a geocoded image file, export the edited version with the location data included:

  • Export exif / metadata

    Hi,
how can i export all exif / metadata from an image to a txt/csv file?
I'm missing the copy & paste function for the metadata. If i edit an image with an external app, some of the exif data gets lost...
    Cheers

    *missing the edit button*
I want to extract all the exif data (ISO, Aperture, Exposure, ...) I see inside Aperture.
And is there a way to write the exif (ISO, Aperture, Exposure, ..., NOT ONLY the subject, description, ...) from one image to a new image?

  • 3.4RC not exporting Exif data in jpegs?

I just checked and there seems to be no Exif data in my exported jpegs, even though Minimize Metadata is not checked. Anybody else experiencing this? DId I miss some new setting or way of specifying this? Win 7 64-bit, 64-bit LR.

In terms of the XMP standard, the EXIF schema properties have been omitted from the LR 3.4RC version of the image.  For example, the 3.3 version has the property XMP:DateTimeOriginal, while the 3.4RC version does not.  See below for all differences in the metadata.
I think this may be a bug. The XMP standard was designed to encapsulate legacy metadata such as EXIF, and it was intended that the XMP metadata contain duplicates of the EXIF properties.  Unlike the EXIF standard, XMP allows multi-byte characters and time zones, so not exporting the XMP EXIF properties means that it won't be possible to export multi-byte characters and time zones.

  • Metadata not updated on re-export

    LR 4.1 latest ver.
I post process a CR2 file in Lightroom. I then add text to the Title field.
Export  as jpg using a pre-defined export preset.
I then notice that I have a typo in the Title field.
Correct the typo / text in the CR2 parent file using Lightroom.
Re-export again (same export preset)... answering yes to overwrite file (and Yes to all metadata).
Surprise ...surprise... the Title data is not updated in the exported file (ie by viewing the metadata  in the g or e view.
    I delete the jpg
Export again ...yes... same preset export settings.
    Metadata on jpg is correct.
So, it looks to me that Lightroom is not updating the metadata when exporting and overwriting an existing image.
Is this normal or a bug.
Looking forward to your comments / views.

I run into this all the time, and have for a few versions now. If you do a "Synchronize Folder..." after the latest export, the metadata will be updated in the library. The problem also shows up if you change the image size, crop, etc. Pretty silly error IMO...you would think LR could do its own housekeeping after all these years.

  • Preserving metadata on export

I'd really value some help here... I need to export every asset from my Ap 3 Library and am confused... Export -> Master updates the original capture date (which is what I wish to avoid) whereas File->Relocate Master leaves the original data intact. Questions:
    1. Why are there two commands that seem to do the same job?
    2. How do the commands differ?
    3. Why is Export -> Master updating metadata?
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
    Roy

    1. Why are there two commands that seem to do the same job?
They're not the same job. Moving a file and exporting it are two different actions.
    2. How do the commands differ?
Moving a file is just that. However, exporting has extra options - including the option to write additional metadata to the original file.
    3. Why is Export -> Master updating metadata?
What metadata is that, excactly? Do you mean:
Export -> Master updates the original capture date
The file metadata? File dates are not the same as Photo dates. Photo apps get their dates from the Exif metadata that your camera writes to the file when you take the photo.

  • Photoshop Bug? GPS exif metadata stripped out

We recently discovered that ANY changes made in Photoshop CS4 stripped out our GPS exif metadata.  We also tried it in CS3 - same thing!  And by changes, this includes anything - changing IPTC, adjusting levels, etc.  It even happened when just opening, re- saving and closing the file in Photoshop.
FYI:  We tested it with images exported from both Adobe Camera RAW (Canon files) and Phocus(Hasselblad), and the problem occurred with both.  We've also tried it with files from different cameras, which used different GPS brands altogether, therefore we can rule out:  the GPS units, camera (Canon 1Ds Mark II, Hasselblad H3D-39), and software used to convert RAWS (Phocus, Adobe Camera RAW, Lightroom).  We also tried different computers to make sure no preferences were corrupt on an individual machine, to rule that out.
To make things even more complicated, we just discovered that even though we can no longer see the GPS info in Photoshop CS4, Adobe Bridge DOES see the GPS info!  But - none of our other softwares which normally recognize GPS can see the info (iView, Cumulus).
    Very, very frustrating.......HELP!
Mac OS 10.5.6, PowerMac 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xenon, Photoshop CS4, Files exported to Prophoto RGB 16-bit TIFF) using both Lightroom and Phocus

Addendum: Does anyone know how to add EXIF back into a file?
I assume this would be difficult, as EXIF is hard to remove, much less put back.
Many of these files have already been worked on extensively, and re-importing and re-working is not a good option.
We have already tried the following (did NOT work):
    1)  Exporting the XMP from the file BEFORE any changes are made (with GPS info still intact), and importing XMP to finished file (tried all 3 option settings)
    2)  Copy and pasting the finished file on top of the original (GPS intact file) and flattening, so that the finished file would take on the properties of the old, un-retouched file.  What's odd about this is that after flattening the file, saving, and looking at File Info - it appeared it had WORKED.  But when you close the file, and re-open, the GPS is gone again.

  • Keeping Exif intact when exporting to Jpeg?

    Howdy -
What setting do we need to avoid - so that Exif can be displayed when exporting to jpeg?
example - posting jpegs on a photo forum
    thank-you ~

If you want EXIF data to be available, do not check "minimize Metadata" upon export.

  • Where can I give feedback regarding Aperture? I'd love to see the ability to removes EXIF data when exporting, especially to social networks.

Where can I give feedback regarding Aperture?
I'd love to see the ability to removes EXIF data when exporting, especially to social networks.

    Robert,
For any normal Export, simply cilick the list of option and further click on Edit.  There deselect to include Metadata, and there will be no EXIF data exported.  But no copyright info either.
The option already exists to do what you want.  Once a normal Export has deselected that, I believe even exports via plugin for say FB will not have it either.  I tested with an export to SmugMug after deselecting in an earlier ordinary export, and EXIF info was not transmitted.

  • Can I choose what metadata is exported?

I'd like to export photos with some metadata (copyright, date, etc...) but not with others (camera model, lens model, etc...) Is there some way to control what metadata is exported with a file?

You do not have much control over that.
You cannot prevent the export of the EXIFmetadata tags. They will be exported with originals or edited versions, since they are stored in the original image file.
When you are exporting original files, you can disable the export of IPTC metadata, for the edited versions these data will be included.
Also, in the Preferences > Advanced panel is an option, to enable/disable the export of location data with the images.
One way to prevent the export of certain IPTC data would be to simply duplicate all versions to exported, collect the duplicates in an album, and flag them,so you can easily recognize them again. Then batch change all duplicates of the image versions and erase the metadata tags that you do not want to export. Export the edited duplicates and delete them afterwards again.
This will only worrk for the IPTC tags; to prevent the export of EXIF tags you would need to clear the EXIF tagswith exiftool or a similar tool. Aperture will not allow to change them.

  • How to synchronise metadata between Lightroom catalogue and exif metadata (e.g. Orientation and rating)?

    Hi there,
i have some third-party tools that also read my original photos that I use in my workflow. That is especially my private synology cloud, from which I can watch my images in the browser and in mobile devices like my iPhone/iPad.
i Ido not want to export a second copy of the pictures from Lightroom to be used by the other tools and still want to be able to synchronise the two most important values between these tools and Lightroom: orientation and rating.
is there any way to store orientation and rating from lightroom in the original photo's exif data? vice versa is there a way to synchronise these values back from the exif metadata to Lightroom? Especially orientation is an issue, because I have older cameras that do not set the orientation tag and I have to orient them in Lightroom.
rationale: I'd like to use web or mobile devices to rate pictures with my friends and family and do not to have everybody gather around my Lightroom PC.
I don't want to be trapped in the adobe product family. Buying Lightroom-mobile is not an option as I don't accept public clouds and the pricing of it.
    Any hints?
    cheers,
    Meike

Use the Metadata > Save Metadata To File command to write orientation and rating from the LR catalog back to the photo's metadata.  Or set the option Catalog Settings > Metadata > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
If an external tool changes a photo's metadata, LR will display an indicator in the upper-right corner of its thumbnail in Library grid mode:
You can tell LR to reread all the metadata from the file by doing Metadata > Read Metadata From File (this will replace all the metadata in the LR catalog, so beware).
You can find all photos that have changed metadata in the file by using the Metadata Status column in Metadata browser of the Library Filter bar.

  • Missing EXIF information on Export

Hi Everyone,  have just purchased the Canon CP800 Photo Printer for my Mac,   seems as if I can't print any photo from my Aperture 3 library (All the pictures I own are in A3)   The problem,  and its been around for a while .. according to the various communities on the net, is missing EXIF information in the exported JPEG's
Is there a solution to this ?  or is this a problem for Canon as this printer joes does not see Jpeg's with missing EXIF.
    Thanks everyone.
    Woodynet.

Hi Frank,  yes a couple of surprises here,  the First being the Canon Photo Printer CP800 requires some sort of EXIF data on the Pictures in order for it to display on the printerss LCD and therefore enable you to print,  I have found many discussions around this topic,  it relies on certain EXIF data,  likely because you can perform basic enhancements before printing so I guess the printer needs to know something about the image,   by removing the SD Card out of the camera and straight into the printer I can print a picture,   the same picture transfered from Aperture 3 (Latest patches)  to the SD card (Same folder structure) the picture does not appear,  this Picture has had NO adjustments applied to it via Aperture,
The Problem clearly is with Aperture,  it does not export EXIF data (well some anyway),  seems a few people have this problem with A3 so just wondering when Apple might be planning to fix the problem since all my photo's are now in A3,   very frustrating and the experience was very un apple like.   any suggestions would be handy,  as I plan to return the printer in the next couple of days.   will call canon support soon.

  • Metadata not populating captions

I'd really appreciate some help with this problem... I want to set up a page of thumbnails and then display a selection of information from the metadata as a caption below each one. This has worked well in the past, but now only the info re the lens used (and any text I add in the captions text boxes) shows. I've tried re-inserting the images ensuring I'm using the 'place' command, re-linked the image, triple checked that the metadata is there (as it shows in photoshop, Bridge and in the image info itself) - but still nothing.
What's really wierd is that if i open a previous document (that worked), delete the captions and then re-generate static or live captions, it's all fine....but when I do the same thing using the same image with the same metadata and properly linked in my NEW document, it just won't do it! Though the caption set-up is the same etc. The only thing I can think of is that my new Iddesign document is 'faulty' in some way, or the programme itself is having a bad day??
I just can't work out what I'm missing, so any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

Well I have good news and strange news. The good news is that when I linked the image file you posted to the file you posted, I was able to make your live captions work perfectly. I could also generate static captions and they worked as well. This suggested to me that you don't have a problem with your InDesign file per se or necessarily your image files. I opened your photo in Photoshop and Bridge (both CS5.5 versions) and was able to see the metadata that you wanted to include in your live captions in both programs the same as you were.
So, what's the problem then and why does it work for me and not you? I am running CS5.5 on a Mac. It may simply be the difference between CS5.5 and CS5. However, this is where things get strange. I thought I'd see if I could re-create your results. When I opened your photo in Photoshop and re-saved it as a JPG and/or a TIF I found that the EXIF metadata was removed (correction - not "removed" from the JPG or TIF file, but removed from view in InDesign) and the live and static captions no longer functioned. All other types of metadata (or so I assume, admittedly I didn't test absolutely everything) seemed to be intact. So, as you noted, your problem does seem to lie with the EXIF metadata. Just to be sure it wasn't a strange glitch with your photo, I pulled up a few of my own photos downloaded and untouched from my camera. Completely untouched images came through into InDesign with EXIF metadata intact and coming into the live/static captions correctly. Images manipulated in any way, including saved straight from the Camera Raw dialog as JPG or TIF formats lost their EXIF metadata.
A couple of potential solutions/thoughts...and perhaps someone else can build on this. There are some scripts out there and/or plugins that people have created to deal with the EXIF metadata issue. Looking around a bit, this one by Phil Harvey seems to be pretty popular, though I'm afraid I can't personally vouch for it: http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/index.html This isn't the only tool out there though, so if it's not the one for you, keep looking.
The fact that your photo worked for me in CS5.5 makes me think that there is a possibility that your photo was saved in a way that didn't remove the EXIF metadata and/or the metadata was still readable by CS5.5. If this is a feature you will be taking advantage of a lot it might be worth updating InDesign to a newer version, but keeping your photo processing method the same until you know that Adobe has worked out this problem.
And the low-tech, but most annoying process would be to manually copy and paste the metadata you want to show up in your live captions into "stand in" unused categories in another section of your metadata. For instance take the "ISO Speed" and put it in the "Description" category. If you used the same lens, film speed, camera, etc. for a batch of photos you could build a metadata template that could fill in most of the data for you. Really not the optimal solution, but better than not having it work at all. I'll let you know if I run across something better!
