Export GoPro Hero 4 2.7K video as 1080p leaves black bar on rendered video

Hi,
I want to downscale and export some videos I shot with my Go Pro Hero4 Black at 2.7K resolution (2704x1520) to 1920x1080 with premier Pro CC. Every time I do (I have tried different render settings and codecs) I always end up with a thin black line across the very bottom bottom of the video. Anyone know how I can scale the video to fit 1920x1080 without this thin black line appearing?

Even if you shoot at 2.7K or 4K and put it in a timeline, render it out at 1080p you will see better results than shooting at 1080p.  I shoot in 4K with the goPro Hero 4 black and the GH4.  4K is great.
I thought apple would allow us to export 4K from iMovie 10.0.06 but you can only share a 4K clip in the browser not the entire project.  hopefully this is just an update away.
FCPX is the way to go with 4K.

  • When exporting DV 4:3, Picture is Tall and Narrow with Black Bars

I am using hi-8 footage and photos which I edited with the easy setup option, DV - NTSC. While in FCE4 I have black bars on the sides. I assumed when I export, these bars would disappear. Unfortunately, when I export I continue to have these black bars, and my image becomes tall and narrow. I want to put this footage on a dvd so it can play on a 4:3 projector. How can I ensure that my image takes up the whole screen without the tall and narrow distortion and the black bars? Please help. Thank you.
PS: Tom Wolsky, I own your third edition book, and it is a great tool!

Those are the item properties for the clip. This material needs to be converted before it can be used properly in FCE. It's not the correct frame size, pixel aspect, or codec. The sequence properties will probably be DV and look very different. The media needs to be converted to conform to the sequence properties.

  • Can't export anamorphic 16:9 to 4:3 (aspect ratio preserved by bars)

    Hi,
I've been reading forums and trying different things for days now and cannot seem to export my anamorphic 16:9 sequence to 4:3 with black bars preserving the aspect ratio. I've tried quicktime conversion with "preserve aspect ratio" clicked. I've tried copying and pasting my 16:9 sequence into a 4:3 sequence, but this throws off attributes such as titles, keyframes, and clip speed. I've tried nesting the 16:9 sequence, opening in viewer, and dropping the nested clip into a 4:3 sequence, but that also messes up the audio/video/title sync (even when I've mixed down the audio. The only thing that has come close to working is exporting the whole 16:9 sequence to .mov, then reimporting the .mov into a 4:3 sequence, and then re-exporting, however, the titles are then squished (incorrect aspect-ratio for titles only, video appears correct) and the quality is diminished by the multiple exports/renderings.
    Please Help!
    Thanks,
    Adam

I would say go with you lowest common denominator - 4:3.
Actually I have found no difference in burning a disc at 4:3 aspect ratio and 16:9 aspect ratio. They both look the same on 4:3 and 16:9 TVs. The only difference I have found are the menus. (but make sure your dvd player is set at 4:3 LB (letterbox) or the your 16:9 project will come out full screen with the sides cut off).

  • Rendered video looks differnt than project video   black bars in the man viewing area?

rendered video looks differnt than project video   black bars in the man viewing area?

When you say "rendered," do you mean hitting the Enter/Return key to produce Rendered files, for smoothest playback, or do you mean once you Export/Share/Publish the Timeline to an output file, the black bars show up?
What version of PrE are you using?
Also, can you give us information on the Video Clips in your Project, such as the camcorder that they came from, the CODEC used, and their Frame Size?
Next, what Project Preset did you choose at New Project?
If you did mean after you have output the Timeline to a file, what were the specs. that you chose for that output file?
Black bars in the output file, or on the Timeline, indicate a mis-match somewhere in the process.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • 320x240 QT export produces black bars on right and left

Ok, this one is strange. So far, it only appears to affect 320x240 targets from sources that don't have square pixels. Starting with a 720x480 DV movie (even if I change the properties to display 640x480), I export directly to 320x240 and I get a movie with black bars down the right and left. I did not tell QT to letterbox or scale, although telling it to scale does no help.
The problem seems to be in the meta data. If I go to the movie's visual properties and change the move dimensions to 324x240 (with preserve aspect ratio unchecked), then the black bars disappear. When I change it back to 320x240, they are still gone and the movie plays fine. I save it and reopen it, and the black bars are back! The same thing happens exporting from Final Cut Pro using Quicktime conversion. This is definitely a bug.
The work around is to export to another 4:3 format with square pixels first and export that to 320x240.
On a related note, the same thing happens when I record a movie in Quicktime at 320x240. I get a recording with black bars down the sides.
This has never happened to me before. I'm a professional QT software developer and a content producer. I've been using Quicktime Pro for a decade, at least. I've been over all of the export settings, and I've deleted all of my Quicktime preference files.
Is there a way to report a bug to Apple?

Regarding: "there's a pretty good chance that your playback target isn't Quicktime Player"...
My assumption is that if your material is 320x240, it's probably that size because you're planning to either display it on a small-screen device, send it to a TV set, embed it in a presentation, or deliver it via the Web. In any of those cases, your final delivery target isn't QuickTime Player, but rather some other mode, such as the QuickTime web plug-in, iPod, AppleTV, or even some other option. In which case the strangeness with the player doesn't seem so strange.
As a workaround, you could layer your 320x240 movie with at 350x240 grey rectangle on the layer behind. That would fix it in QuickTime Player, but it would cause grey bars on either side if you embed into a web page or something like that.

  • GOPRO Hero 2 720 60 FPS, settings/presets and export settings.

I use a gopro hero 2 to make some short films.   I made this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwWU83oGGx0  video with DSLR 720 60 FPS preset, and let the program choose export. • Export Settings for GoPro Hero 3?

I have some footage from GoPro Hero 3 Black. It's 1080p 60fps wide. When I export it from Adobe Premier Pro CS6 the quality is not the same as the original clip. What settings and format are you guys using? Could someone please provide the details as far as the exact format you are using and your settings? I would really appreciate it. I've tried several, e.g. windows media and played around with various options, still the output is crappy.
This is what I get btw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2IP2aBKiBs You can see that the quality even in 1080p is subpar.

It certainly isn't the cleanest video I have ever seen.
First of all, did you put it into a sequence by dropping the video on to the "New Item" button so that the sequence is the correct size and number of frames per second?
Second, try exporting to H.264 and use the "Match Source High Bitrate" and then increase the bit rate even more. And maybe use a two pass VBR.

  • Premiere CC for Mac - How do I fix fisheye from a GoPro Hero 3+ video?

    Hi all,
First up, I'm very new to Premiere - my experience is probably less than 2 hours at this point.  To disspell any concern over whether or not I'm using a licensed copy of Pr - yes, I am.  I subscribe to Creative Cloud because of my need for Lr, Ps and Ai.
Anyway, I've got a GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition camera and would like to learn how to remove the fisheye effect caused by the crazy wide video that produces.  In 1920x1080 "SuperView" I think it's some like 170+ degrees of view vs 127 degrees in "normal" wide mode.  Those figures might not be 100% correct but they're close.
With SuperView there's some insane fisheye going on - as you'd expect, I guess.  Using the GoPro software there's an option to remove it but that produces video with an aspect ratio that looks squashed.  People are super tall and I lose some of the captured video at the top & bottom when watching.
In Premiere for Windows, I believe there's a video effect calls Lens Distortion - it's not there on my Mac version of Premiere CC.  The tutorial I watched set the Lens Distortion to -27 and I'd like to try it.  Can't though - that effect isn't there.
Is it possible to remove fisheye using Premiere CC for Mac only i.e. completely bypass the GoPro software?  If anyone's wondering why I want to bypass the GoPro software - the answer is "just coz."
    Thanks

The 2014 release of Premiere Pro CC now has presets for specific GoPro models. This is true in PPro for Mac, too. Check out the Effects tab in the Project panel: Presets > Lens Distortion Removal > GoPro > [your specific model] > [your specific GoPro footage's mode]. Drag the effect to your clip and watch the barrel distortion go away.

  • I want to use my I Pad mini to play videos from my Gopro Hero HD camera and also to use as a monitor if possible?

I want to use my I Pad mini to play videos from my Gopro Hero HD camera and also to use as a monitor if possible? What software would i need to use ? I movie is what i use with my I Mac not sure if this will work on I Pad Mini?

At first I thought that this solved my problem, but alas it didn't. It does appear to add display area for your computer or to suplement it. But it is not a view screen for your Mini. I guess I will just have to live on with my monitor and use my Ipad and the "remote" app to run Itunes.
Once I have the system all set up, I could use the display but I don't know why I would. Thanks for your help.

  • Problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements

    Hello,
I have a problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements : the file is read but the quality is quite bad. When I watch it with other software like VLC or MPC, the quality is perfect but the video is sometimes slowed or there are some jumps in the reading.
What is the issue with this ?
    thakns for your help !
    Olivier.

This is easy. I do it all the time. FCPX ingests GoPro footage just fine. Optimize, and you're good to go.
BTW: A common hiccup occurs when dealing with over-cranked footage. (60fps or 120fps.) Be sure to "conform speed" to actuate the slo-mo. 'Tis also important to designate your project / timeline at 24fps or 30fps to realize the speed difference.
I've gotten burned in the past. I'll drag my over-cranked GoPro footage to the timeline. As it is the "first" clip layed into the timeline, the project assumes THAT speed as a default. (As per my preferences.) Thus, when I "conform speed," nothing seems to happen. That's because my project is displaying at the higher rate. A 60fps timeline showing footage shot at 60fps looks "normal speed."
FYI. (And disregard if you know all this.)

  • Does imovie support the GoPro Hero 2 camera?

Any problems uploading GoPro Hero 2 MPEG4 files into a Macbook Pro?

I am having huge problems with importing from my Hero 2 HD into iMovie 10.0.1.  It looks like the files import but then when I come back to iMovie I have a Missing Camera error over each file.  I find it hard to believe that Apple would not support the Hero 2.  I looked in the iMovie support area and searched for what GoPro iMovie does support and only the Hero 3 is listed.  Anyone else having trouble importing video or timelapse pictures from your Hero 2 or Hero 2 HD?  Very frustrating.  Fortunately, I did find that even after upgrading to Maverick, iMovie 9.0 is still in my applications folder under the iMovie folder.

  • Can't do GoPro Hero 3 lens corrections in Photoshop CC

I'm a creative cloud subscriber. I just watched a great video on Adobe TV showing me how Photoshop CC can do lens corrections for GoPro Hero 3 black edition cameras. However, when I imported my GoPro Hero 3 footage into Photoshop CC, GoPro did not appear as a camera maker. I shot the video in 1080, with ProTune on, in Camera RAW. Maybe that's why I don't see GoPro... Any ideas?

I was initially mystified by this as well.  Here is what I finally figured out:
    1.  From bridge, open a GoPro .mp4 file in Photoshop.
    2.  Filter > Lens Correction.  Pull down GoPro under camera; GoPro Hero 3 Black under camera model and lens.
    3.  Click OK.
To add additional video clips, hit the "+" sign at the right side of the Timeline panel.  Apply the Lens Correction filter to these, as well.

  • Mixing D3100 1080p 24fps with Gopro hero 1080p30fps

    Hey all,
I want to shoot constant POV Video with my Gopro hero hd, and then capture some unique stuff with my Nikon
D3100 and combine them in one project using Premiere Elements 9.  If I set them both to 1080p, then the Gopro is 30fps, and the Nikon 24fps.  I can match them both up at 720p 30fps, but the Gopro has a field of view that is too wide for my taste at that setting, and I hate giving up the quality.  Not sure about how to handle audio yet, but will eventually use a separate audio recorder at some point.
    gspot screenshots:
    Gopro:
    Nikon:
I hope to share these videos on Vimeo HD. I am a novice, and I am not sure what effect converting a clip to a differant fps would have, and I am not sure is this is necessary. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thom

You guys must be pulling your hair out, because I am obviously not doing a good job stating my problem.  Please bear with me!
You are both trying hard to explain why I am having trouble dealing with the video captured with my two cameras, but that is not my problem.  I have successfully imported 720p 30fps video from each camera into their own project in PE9, edited it, and outputted them to Vimeo with no real issues.  I am also confident that I can figure out how to combine the video from both cameras as long as I set them both to 720p 30fps, although I might be a little naive.  My problem, as I see it, is that the 1080p setting on the Hero records only at 30fps, and the 1080p setting on my Nikon records only at 24fps.
    Should I:
a.)  leave both cameras at 720fps 30fps, accept the quality hit, be happy, and stop bugging you guys.
b.)  convert one or the other to a matching frame rate.  Not sure if it is best, or possible, to go up to 30, or down to 24?
c.)  some other option that I am not seeing because I don't know what I am talking about.
    Thanks for your patience,
    Thom

  • GoPro Hero 3 App Preview Problem

I have a GoPro Hero 3 camera which I'm using with the iPad App to preview and import video and photos via WiFi. The App seems to work great, but there's one problem:
The prefered video format I want to use 960p/30 fails to load over wifi for preview. At first I thought this was a limitation of iOS 6 (I'm using iOS6 on an iPad 3), but then I discovered I could import the full resolution file (for some reason it does not import the low reoslution option), and open and play it just fine in the Photo App. Obviously if iOS 6 was the culprit here, then I shouldn't be able to play it at all. 1080p/30 videos previewed through the GoPro app play just fine without importing them.
So my question: is there a way around this? And where does the problem lie? Is it an iOS 6 problem, or a GoPro app problem? And if it's iOS 6, will upgrading to iOS 7 fix the problem?
I would just import all the video as a work-around, except I don't have anywhere near the amount of room I would need to import that much high resolution video.
ANyone else dealing with this problem?

I saw in another thread that ios7 removed the ability to play back gopro videos. Is this true? Ridiculous! I just upgraded to an iPad Air thinking it would have greater capacity to work with GoPro, not less. Off to Andriod. Bummer.

  • Record timelapse with Gopro Hero 4, editing using iMovie on iOS.

    Hi,
i would like to see and edit my timelapse video made with Gopro Hero 4, how can I do it with iMovie on iOS - iPad Air.
    Thanks

Use MpegStreamclip (free) to convert the files to Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC).
You must record in or convert the files to 30 fps mode as FCE only works in that frame rate.
