Export/import character data conversion in NLS_LANG FAQ

The [OTN NLS_LANG FAQ|http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/globalization/htdocs/nls_lang%20faq.htm#_Toc110410566] says:
>
In Oracle9i the Export utility always exports user data, including Unicode data, in the character set of the database. The Import utility automatically converts the data to the character set of the target database.
>
But I don't think this is correct for Oracle 9i. Example:
export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.US7ASCII

  • R/3 Export & Import during Unicod Conversion via SOCKET Method

    Hi
We are in the process of upgrading our R/3 Enterprise to ECC 6.0. The size of the database is around 4 TeraBytes.
Can somebody help us with necessary documentation/ othe rinputs to handle R/3 Export & Import using SOCKET method?  FYI we referred the SAP given doucments on the same. Any particular DOs & DO NOTs would be highly appreciated.
    Thank You

    Hi Rahul
regarding your 'Unicode doubt"' some ideas:
    1) The Upgrade Master Guide SAP ERP 6.0 and the Master Guide SAP ERP 6.0 include introductory information. Among other, these guides reference the SAP Service Marketplace-location http://service.sap.com/unicode@sap.
    2) In Unicode@SAP can you find several (content-mighty) FAQs
Conclusion from the FAQ: First of all your strategy needs to follow your busienss model (which we can not see from here):
Example. The "Upgrade to mySAP ERP 2005"-FAQ includes interesting remarks in section "DO CUSTOMERS NEED TO CONVERT TO A UNICODE-COMPLIANT ENVIRONMENT?"
"...The Unicode conversion depends on the customer situation....
... - If your organization runs a single code page system prior to the upgrade to mySAP ERP 2005, then the use of Unicode is not mandatory. ..... However, using Unicode is recommended if the system is deployed globally to facilitate interfaces and connections.
    - If your organization uses Multiple Display Multiple Processing (MDMP) .... the use of Unicode is mandatory for the mySAP ERP 2005 upgrade....."
In the Technical Unicode FAQ you read under "What are the advantages of Unicode ...", that "Proper usage of JAVA is only possible with Unicode systems (for example, ESS/MSS or interfaces to Enterprise Portal). ....
=> Depending on the fact if your systems support global processes, or depending on your use of Java Applications, your strategy might need to look different
    3) In particular in view of your 3rd option, I recommend you to take a look into these FAQs, if not already done.
Remark: mySAP ERP 2005 is the former name of the application, which is named SAP ERP 6.0, now

  • Issue with Export / Import Configuration Data in AC 5.3 migration to AC 10

    Hi,
We are migrating from AC 5.3 to AC 10. As per the Migration Guide I have exported the data from AC 5.3.
The export created around 57 files on the destination with .dat extension.
Moved these files to target server Import location.
Then I have used the utility (GRAC_DATA_MIGRATION) in AC 10. Selected the Import location. and clicked Get Files.
It has uploaded some files (21 out of 57).
When I analyzed the uploaded files, I found it has uploaded only "Common Configuration" data. For the below Objects, though the export utility has created files, Import utility did not uploaded the files.
    1. Business Unit
    2. Critical Roles and Profiles
    3. CUP Role Repository
    4. Mitigation Controls
    5. SOD Rules
    6. Workflow
Does anyone have any idea about this issue?
    Regards,
    Deepak

    Deepak,
Can you share with me how you are importing the config data? How you are using the path? Please share this and also try toshare how you systems are distributed.

  • Export/Import configuration data/ other details in CUP, SPM and ERM

    Hi experts
How we can export the connectors, Workflows, initiators, stage , approvers , configurations  from CUP, ERM, SPM  Development to their production system ?. We have option to export  configuration data and connecters option in RAR but option is not seen in CUP, ERM or SPM . Is there a way? I am on AC 5.3 SP5. Is it planned for any future SP release ?
    Thank you.

    Hi Sahad,
    - in SPM, there is no configuration but the connectors. You can just create those in one place (no point in even doing it in a test system)
    - in ERM, there's also little value of testing. You might as well only configure one system and keep the audit information consistent.
    - CUP has an export configuration option. Unfortunately you always have to export a whole tree, whereas you might probably only want to export a few items of a workflow configuration (most likely the stages). Almost all of the other configuration (approvers, connectors etc. is either trivial or different in the production system anyway (you usually work with test users in DEV, at least that's my experience).
    Frank.

  • EXPORT/IMPORT Q & A

    제품 : ORACLE SERVER
    작성날짜 : 2002-04-08
    EXPORT/IMPORT Q & A
    ===================
    PURPOSE
    Explanation
    catexp.sql에 Script되어 있다.
이 스크립트 화일은 $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin에 있으며 Install시 수행되도록
    1. Tablespaces
    2. Profiles
    3. Users
    4. Roles
    5. System Privilege Grants
    6. Role Grants
    7. Default Roles
    8. Tablespace Quotas
    9. Resource Costs
    10. Rollback Segments
    11. Database Links
    12. Sequences( includes Grants )
    13. Snapshots ( includes grants, auditing )
    14. Snapshot logs
    15. Job Queues
    16. Refresh Groups
    17. Cluster Definitions
    18. Tables(includes grants,column grants,comments,indexes,
    constraints,auditing)
    19. Referential Integrity
    20. POSTTABLES actions
    21. Synonyms
    22. Views
    23. Stored Procedures
    24. Triggers
    25. Default and System Auditing
    -BUFFER
    -RECORDLENGTH
    Size * Row
X 또는 Y DB에 import(imp는 적정한 것을 활용)하는 것을 말한다.
[질문8] EXP-37 에러(export views not compatible with database version)
하는 View(Catexp.sql에 의해 생성된)가 Oracle Version내에 일치하지 않아
Full
    Export
Unlimited
    예를 들면 다음과 같다.
    $ sqlplus system/manager
    SQL> alter user scott
    quota 0 on system
    quota 0 on tools
    quota 0 on data
    quota unlimited on users;
    SQL>revoke unlimited tablespace from scott;

Oh! That's NOT what you asked. What you asked is:
my question is, do I need to export all files again?
As for the WSUSUTIL functionality, that is an ALL or NOTHING operation. You have no choice in the matter.

  • Exporting/Importing applications

I'm having issues importing the applications I build from one Schema to another. It sees that only the forms are exported but not the table? Does anyone know why that is?
    Thanks,
    Micah

    Hi Michah,
    >
I'm having issues importing the applications I build from one Schema to another. It sees that only the forms are exported but not the table? Does anyone know why that is?
    >
Bot just the Forms, it will also include Reports, Shared Objects , et al.
You only export the application from application builder and hence only the application gets imported. That is by design.
You have to use Generate DDL in SQLWorkshop > Utilities and use that script , or any other means, to move the database objects from one schema to other. If you want to transfer data then you need to export/import the data as well.
To put together the installation and de-installation package use Supporting Objects.

  • Issue Migrating Character Data Using a Full Export and Import

    Hi There;
I have a database in my local machine that doesn't support Turkish characters. My NLS_CHARACTERSET is WE8ISO8859P1, It must be changed to WE8ISO8859P9 , since it supports full Turkish characters. I would like to migrate character data using a full export and import and my strategy is as follows:
1- create a full export to a location in network,
2- create a new database in local machine that it's NLS_CHARACTERSET is WE8ISO8859P9 (I would like to change NLS_LANGUAGE and NLS_TERRITORY by the way)
3- and implement full import to newly created database.
I 've implemented first step, but I couldn't implement the second step. I 've created the second step by using toad editor by clicking Create -> New Database but I can not connect the new database. I must connect new database in order to perform full import. How can I do this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Technical Details
    NLS_LANGUAGE.....................AMERICAN
    NLS_TERRITORY.....................AMERICA
    NLS_CURRENCY.....................$

First, if your applications run on Windows, do not use WE8ISO8859P9. Use TR8MSWIN1254.
Second, if you create a new database, the database is not necessarily immediately accessible to outer world. I do not know Toad and I have no idea if it performs all necessary steps required for the new database to be visible.  For example, in the Toad itself, I assume you should create a new connection that references the new SID of the newly created database and use this new connection to connect. However, connections without a connection string use the ORACLE_SID setting in Registry to tell connecting applications which instance (database) to use.  To change the database accessed with an empty connection string you need to modify Registry (unless Toad has an option to do this for you). If you want to connect without changing Registry, you need a connect string. This requires setting up Oracle Listener to serve the new database (unless default configuration is used and the database registers itself with the default listener). It also requires changing tnsnames.ora file to create an alias for the new database. Net Manager and/or Net Configuration Assistant can help you with this.
I wonder if Database Configuration Assistant would not be a better tool to create new Oracle databases.
    Thanks,
    Sergiusz

  • Import error character set conversion

import done in US7ASCII character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set

    Import terminated successfully without warnings.
    how to resolve this
    importinng into linux machine

import done in US7ASCII character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set
import server uses AL32UTF8 character set (possible charset conversion)
export client uses WE8ISO8859P1 character set (possible charset conversion)
Import terminated successfully without warnings.Your import was successful. However, there are a few things you need to note from the top of the import log. It is advisable to use correct NLS settings when doing export/import to avoid data corruption/loss. That idea is to ensure you set the correct NLS setting (NLS_LANG) at the client before running exp or imp. In some cases, the setting does not matter because the different character sets can go together.
In this case, I would not worry about it.

  • Trying to export/import 10g 10.2.0.3 data into an 8i (8.1.7.0) database

I am trying to create an full export of a 10g database 10.2.0.3 and then import into an Oracle 8.1.7.0 database. I was told to use the 8i version of both the exp and imp utilities. I keep getting nls_character set errors. The 10G database is AMERICAN-AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252 where the 8i database is WE8ISO8859P1. I was told to set the registry entry for NLS_LANG to that of the setting in 8i but I am still getting errors when I run the 8i export logged into the 10g database. What initialization parameters on the 10g and/or 8i database and within the windows environment variables/registries need to be set in order to pull this off?
Can this be done? Can I use the 10g imp ultility and use the .dmp file that to imp into the 8.1.7.0 database? We are doing this in case management wants to revert back to 8i in there is a showstopper issue when we go production on 10g.

8.1.7.0 database. I was told to use the 8i version of
both the exp and imp utilities. I keep getting
nls_character set errors. ...and the errors are?
    The 10G database is
    AMERICAN-AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252 where the 8i database
is WE8ISO8859P1. I was told to set the registry entrySo you are going to a superset, which is good, if your character data were stored properly in 8i.
You might want to run the db character set scanner against 8i to find possible conversion issues. Running csscan from 10g home against the 8i db should work.

    machine: SunOS 5.8 Generic_108528-14 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R
    oracle version: 8.1.7
    charset: SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.UTF8
    database 2:
    machine: SunOS 5.7 Generic_106541-08 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-2
    oracle version: 8.1.6
    charset: AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8
    Question:
    1. how to do it by using exp and imp command?
    2. Before exporting, what NLS_LANG should I set?
    3. Before importing, what NLS_LANG should I set?
I can export data but got errors when importing as follow:
Export file created by EXPORT:V08.01.07 via conventional path
import done in UTF8 character set and UTF8 NCHAR character set
IMP-00069: Could not convert to environment national character set's handle
    IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi, Nat,
    Thanks for your post:
    I have tried the following:
    Case 1:
    - set environment NLS_LANG="SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.UTF8" in machine 1
    - export data from machine 1
    - ftp the export from machine 1 to machine 2 in binary mode
    - set environment NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 in machine 2
    - import the data to machine 2
    Result:
Export file created by EXPORT:V08.01.07 via conventional path

  • Export and Import encrypted data

    Hi,
I have a database table with encryped data (encrypted using DBMS_OBFUSCATION_TOOLKIT.DES3Encrypt). I am having an issue when I export this table and import it into a new schema. The encrypted data seems to have changed after import. I am unable to decrypt it from the new schema.
Below is the character set details from export/import.
"Export done in WE8MSWIN1252 character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set. Server uses WE8ISO8859P1 character set (possible charset conversion)."
"Import done in WE8MSWIN1252 character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set."
Has anybody had this issue before? Does it have anything to do with the character set? If so, how do I fix it?
    Thank you!

    Hello,
since this question is about using the export utility, you might better ask this in {forum:id=61} or {forum:id=732}.

  • Character set conversion problem when importing application with script.

Our database has character set: WE8MSWIN1252
We have a region with the following title: Kopiëren. The ë is stored as character 235 in the database.
When I make an application export the file is in UTF-8. The ë is now stored as hex C3 AB in this file.
When importing the application using the Apex tool, the ë is again stored as character 235 in the database.
In our installation script we use some code to load the application. It look something like this:
    declare
    begin
       -- Determine workspace ID
       apex_application_install.set_workspace_id(l_workspace_id);
       -- Determine app ID
       apex_application_install.set_application_id(l_app_id);
       apex_application_install.generate_offset;
       apex_application_install.set_schema(l_schema);
       apex_application_install.set_application_alias(l_schema);
       l_app_id := apex_application_install.get_application_id;
    end;
@..\apex\f200.sqlThis works fine except that no character set conversion takes place. The UTF-8 character is placed in the database so our region has as title: Kopiëren
Is there a way to fix this?

    Hi Rene,
The character set portion of your local NLS_LANG environment variable should be AL32UTF8, and this should be set prior to you importing your application via SQL*Plus.
