Export in 24p (curiosity)

Hi guys, I'm shooting with a panasonic SD5 1080 in Avchd. Since I've a Quad (not intel), I've to import clips through Imovie with my bookpro and then import in G5 in FinalCut6.
To improve a better "film" appearence can I export in 24p mode? I've to do it with cinema tools? How can I do it?

The "Film Look" is much more complicated than a simple frame rate (do a google or a forum search for 'film look' and see for yourself), but converting to 24p will help. As to converting to 24, there are various ways; you can simply change the fps in your export dialogue box under "Export to Quicktime Conversion", or take a more expensive, but inarguably better, route:

  • Out of Sync/Export Settings/24p

I'll try to explain this the best way possible....
I have a bunch of project files for a movie that i'm working on. I felt it was easier to edit in a bunch of different projects, and then combine them into one solo project at the end. However, once I lay all the edited video+audio from the project files into one final project, the audio goes out of sync. Even when I export it, the audio is still out of sync.
I am combining 24p and 60i files, my sequence settings are for 24p, and I was planning on exporting to m2v for DVD Studio Pro.
What would be my best option for exporting for DVD without an audio sync problem or the "streaking" effect (three frames forward, one backwards) that plagues 24p exporting.
    Thanks in advance,
    Natha

I don't want to sound impatient, but this is for a college project that is due in 48 hours... can anyone help ASAP?

  • Premiere CS3 and 24p exporting

    Hello,
I've been working on this problem for a long time.
I have some clips shot with a Canon XL2 in 24p mode with 2:3:3:2 pulldown. I import in Premiere CS3 in a 24p project, go in "Interpreter footage" and set "Remove 24p pulldown", and in the timeline the clips are good, 24p without interlaced frames.
Then I go exporting: I want export in 24p (23,97) DV format.
    1) If I choose "Microsoft DV AVI" with "DV (24p Advanced)", the clips I get are in 29,97 with still the flagged frame that should have been removed. So I have the same output format that I get setting DV NTSC with his 29,97 framerate.
    2) If I choose "Microsoft AVI" and then I go with an alternative DV codec, such as the Panasonic's one (but I've tried many and I've got the same results, so I don't think it's their fault), I get a 23,97 clip, but the frame that has been removed is not the flagged and interlaced one, is one of the progressive. Watching the clip frame to frame I see that I have 24 fps: 3 progressive, 1 interlaced, 3 progressive, 1 interlaced, and so on.
Let me know. Sorry for my bad english but I'm italian.
    Thank you

My own testing shows that Premiere doesn't create 24p friendly DV files. I've had much better success creating 24p MPEG2-DVD files.

  • Exporting 16X9 Problems

    Hi Folks,
I'm trying to export my 24p 16x9 project, and it is coming out as a 4x3 video. I go File>Export>Quicktime Movie>Settings>Custom, set everything for 16x9 widescreen and no luck.
Is there something I am doing wrong? I set the project up under Easy Setup and preview and editing looks fine.
    Thanks for any ideas.
    Chris

    Go to Export>Using Quicktime Conversion...
at the bottom you have Format: QT Movie - Options
    click on Options...
go to Size and from the Dimensions list choose Custom and enter 1024 x 576 into the spaces there.
leave Preserve aspect ratio using: and Deinterlace Source Video unchecked.
click OK and there you go...
Obviously, 1024 by 576 is for standard def 16:9... if your final delivery is for the web, or something, you will have different (smaller) values, but with the same ratio... but it is here that you enter those values.

  • 24p in FCE

Sorry to post two topics but I had this question that wasn't answered by searching. I have FCE4 and I've read in previous posts that it can handle some 24p and also that it could not.. I'll be shooting with my new camera (when I get it) which is a panasonic dvx100b. If I shoot in 24p (regular not advanced) and DV, not HDV; will I be able to edit in FCE in normal DV 29.97 mode? Will I have trouble importing / Exporting in 24p? Is it true 24p or does it mess up the pulldown? Thanks. Let me know if more info is needed.

  • Premier Pro 2.0  Output to AVI is making the Video 24p

    Hi:
I've run into a Premier Pro 2.0 mystery I've not encountered before. I have a sequence that I want to export to avi. It is a mix of 16 x 9 video (not hi-def), and photos. Its a widescreen project. I've done this type of project before, never had this problem. When I export the sequence, the video is exported in 24P even though I have set the export settings to NTSC. I tried burning a disk from inside Premier using the not-so-wonderful disk burner that is included, and the video came out fine -- 29.97 fps like its supposed to. But when I export to .avi (so I can bring it into ENCORE) the video is changed to 24P. What the heck is going on here? The photos look fine. Any help greatly appreciated. I want to use ENCORE because its going to go onto a Dual Layer disk and I have the menus already made.  No matter what I seem to do exporting to Microsoft DV AVI, Compressor set to DV NTSC, Frame Rate set to 29.97, Pixel Aspect Ratio is D1/DV NTSC Widescreen 16:9 (1.2), Bit Depth set to "Use project settings," Fields set to "Lower field first," Optimize stills is checked.   And the video looks like its 24p!!!  Yet burning the same project to DVD from within Premier and the video looks fine.  ???? Help!!!
    Thanks,
    Dave

When I exported the project the first time (as a test) I did so using Premier's Export to DVD.  The video was fine on that DVD, except the disc skipped a lot --- acted like a bad write or disk incompatibility.
This is often caused by bad blank media. Brands like Verbatim, or Taiyo Yuden are excellent. Brands like Memorex, TDK, newer Ritek and most "store brands" will give issues like you describe. Also, too high a burn speed can cause similar.
What brand of blank media did you test on?
BTW - I use DVD RW's to test with, so that I do not end up burning "coasters." Now, I never, never deliver on DVD RW's, and only use them for testing purposes.
    Good luck,

  • Exported video looks wrong

I shot a video using my Canon 5d Mark ii a few years ago. I finally edited the footage togther and after I exported the video it looks a little wrong.
The motion inside of the frame sometimes looks jittery.  At first I thought it was my fault because I didn't know quite what I was doing with the shutter speed at the time I shot the video but I watched some of the clips on their own outside of the completed video and they don't look jittery then so I'm fairly certain it has something to do with the way I exported it.
I used H.264 1080p 30fps.  You can see the video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFoQj0TZ83o  I must be setting the export settings wrong somehow.  Hopefully,  looking at the video will make it easier for someone to tell me wtf I'm doing wrong.

If I had to guess, it looks like you dropped the source footage onto a sequence at a different framerate.
I made this mistake recently editing 24p source on 30p sequence and then exporting to 24p.
The pull-up an pull-down ends up mismatching and you get that fitter.
    eg
    3:2 pullup ends up with
    ABCD -> ABCDD
then then 3:2 pull down ends doesn't drop the doubled pair but instead another of the set of 4. So you get...
ABCDD -> ACDD and thus the jitter since you dropped frame B and doubled up frame D.

  • Tomorow I will be shooting with the Z7 in 24P HDV.  Will that be compatible with Aspect 3.4 and Prem

Tomorow I will be shooting with the Z7 in 24P HDV. Will that be compatible with Aspect 3.4 and Premiere? Can I make a DVD from 24P which won't bug? Or am I better off stiking with 50i HDV to avoid any problems? Please let me know your views before I commit to a way of shooting this projet.

    > Can't I export directly to DVD from the timeline?
Assuming you've got a 24p timeline and you're outputting to NTSC 23.976 fps, then "yes".
25p is a different story: I am fairly certain that Adobe Media Encoder will not do the 3% speed-up when outputting 24p to 25p. Furthermore, AME makes you choose "upper/lower/progressive" for field options. If you choose "progressive", your chroma will be sampled progressively. If you choose "interlaced" your effects and transitions will be rendered as interlaced.
    So, I'd say you should:
    1.) Export 1080/24p Cineform .AVI file(s) of your sequence(s)
2.) Create a new 1080/25p Cineform project and import the .AVI files fro step #1
3.) Select the .AVIs in the Project window, Interpret Footage and set the frame rate to 25
4.) Place your clips on the timeline -- be sure that Frame Blending is not enabled on any clips, do not add any effects, etc.
5.) Export via AME as PAL DVD, 25 fps, upper-field first

  • 24p & broadcast???

I shot footage at 24p Advanced with the DVX100b and am editing in a 23.98 timeline. What's the best way to convert my final project to a digi-beta tape? Should I record it straight from the timeline? If so, will the 23.98 footage play back correctly on NTSC or do I need to take an extra step before dubbing my project to digibeta? Or am I completely off and need to do something completely different? Thanks!

I think your best bet would be to basically print to tape, playing it back at 23.98, and allow the hardware devices to make the conversion. Otherwise, you'll probably have to deal with misplaced frames, etc.
Just today I was frustrated trying to export my 24P HDV timeline to burn an SD DVD. When I exported to a QT Movie at 30fps, it had major issues (black frames at transitions, synch issues, etc.) So, what I eventually did, is just exported my timeline at DV NTSC 24fps, and basically let the DVD Player and TV handle the conversion to 30fps. Having FCP either 1. Export to 30fps, or 2. copy/paste clips into a 30fps timeline will cause missing frames, etc.

  • 24p to .mov

What is the correct export setting to export a 24p project to .mov?
I have used 1080 60i but that .mov shows some of the black pulldown frames.
    Thanks in advance.

Eureka! I created a new 24p seq and pasted my cut, checked the properties again of the sequence and exported as you suggested and it worked. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

  • Image Brightness Changes When Authoring DVDs

    Hello,
To encode footage I export 720 24p footage from FCP as a Quicktime .mov using Microcosm then encode in Compressor using the standard Best Quality, 16:9, SD setting. The Quicktime .mov and the encoded .m2v file plays with the same image brightness and contrast as does the original footage in the FCP timeline, but once I author it in Studio Pro it consistenly looks lighter and consequently washed out when played back on the same monitor from the DVD. It also ends up looking lighter when played on a TV than programs from a typical rental DVD movie.
I set up my 23" Cine display carefully with with Apple's advanced profiling software, and images and color bars match footage displayed on my Sony PVM-14M that has been set up with color bars through a decklink card.
Can anyone offer advice about why this may be happening? So far my only fix is to arbitrarely change image brightness when encoding with Compressor. Is there some change I should be making in FCP to go from 720 24p HD footage to SD encodes?
    Thanks,

I have read on various forums that people are getting better encodes from HD footage by exporting to a Quicktime file before encoding. Several people have complained about the results exporting directly to Compressor. I take it you haven't found this to be a problem?

  • Can't get GTX 970 to render - it's still using the CPU

    Hello guys.
I'm using trial of Premiere Pro CC 2014 on Windows 8.1 x64.
Decided to try out my new machine - i5-4690K, EVGA GTX 970 FTW, 16GB DDR3 2400 Mhz, Samsung 850 Pro.
So I have this test video 1080p 60FPS 1min 2s short which I'm exporting to H.264 same as source but lower bitrate.
With the software renderer it takes 3min20s.
I wanted to try out my GTX 970, so I ran the GPUSniffer and added "GeForce GTX 970" into my "cuda_supported_cards.txt". Restarted the machine, made new Project, selected GPU rendering in the Project Settings and gave it a go.
It took exactly 3min20s as before and checking in CPUID HWMonitor GPU usage was 0 and CPU was running full speed. So certainly not GPU Accelerated.
I'm using latest drivers, which is 350.12.
Any ideas what should I do now?
Thank you very much for your time.

Where does the video card fit in?
The video card and hardware MPE is not the holy grail. It helps in some circumstances to improve performance and rather significantly, but in other instances it does not help at all, as is indicated in the link above. People often think that installing a super fast video card will reduce export times by a significant amount of time. That is not true. It only helps in a limited number of situations. Keep in mind that:
Encoding to an export format is done by the CPU, not the GPU. No performance gain from a video card.
Frame rate changes, frame blending is done by a suitable video card, for instance exporting to 24P from 29.97i or 60P. Here there is a clear performance gain.
Scaling is also helped by hardware MPE, for instance going from 4K to HD or from HD to SD. Again a clear performance gain.
Rendering for preview is helped by the video card only for accelerated effects.
If any of the last three points are a major part of your workflow, then a good video card will speed up these parts of the editing by up to 15 times on average over software MPE.

  • Imported image sequence in PP CC 2014 causes animated layers to flicker

I have a project which has a primary layer formed of imported JPGs that are in sequence. These are shots from a time lapse and are sequentially named and imported without issue into Premier Pro. I then have a secondary layer with a simple After Effects composition that comprises a slow fade and animation of some title text. The problem I have is that during playback in PP (or once rendered) the animation of the text in the AA layer flickers. Watching it frame by frame in the preview window it is slowly fading in but each alternate frame it's opacity seems to go back one frame before advancing.
Now I can completely fix this by exporting the image sequence clip in my bin to a video file. If I then replace the image sequence with a video made using exactly the same images it works fine and the animation is perfectly smooth. My question is why does PP not treat the imported image sequence the same as a video with its interaction with other layers?

    Hi there.
Looking at the footage, you are exporting at 24P. There are books written on 24P and how to shoot (or edit) for it. What I see as a possible mistake.
You are moving the photo too fast across the screen. That could be the same as panning too fast in 24P. Same result. The video clips are moving much slower and don't show the staggering.
    Give it a try.

Currently it's only using 33% of it's full power when rendering, while the CPU is running @ 95%
Mercury playback engine GPU  is selected.
    Thank you in advance

why would the encoder have the option to choose between mercury playback engine using GPU, or sofware encoding only!
