Export Settings to Join AVCHD Files

I'm using Premiere Elements 10.
I have AVCHD (MTS) files from my Canon camcorder that I need to join and export for use on my computer as single files. I'm having a hard time understanding which would be the best settings for this export.
Source files are 1920 x 1080 60i, 29 fps. My goal is to export to a file that will minimize loss of quality and have maximum compatibility.
When I go to the Share tab, I select the Computer option and have to select from MPEG (use for playback on this computer or burning to DVD), AVCHD (use for exporting AVCHD), and AVI (use for editing in Premiere Elements).
1. Am I correct that since I am "exporting AVCHD" I should use the AVCHD option? I tried using the MPEG option, selected an MPEG 2 preset, but the resulting file type was still MTS.
When selecting AVCHD, it seems my best two options might be MP4 -H264 1920x1080p 30 or M2T-H264 1920x1080i 30.
2. I like the idea of converting to MP4 for compatibility, but will I introduce quality issues converting from 1080i to 1080p?
3. Knowing my goals here, what is the optimal combination of selections?

In my opinion, SG gave you the answer to this way back in the beginning of this thread...
Import...Project Preset = NTSC/AVCHD/Full HD1080i30
Export...Share/Computer/AVCHD with Presets = M2T - H.264 1920 x 1080i30.
That represents an export with AVCHD video compression with a file extension of .m2t (wrapper format). The file type is described as H.264 Blu-ray. Important is the interlaced source to interlaced export.
You wrote

First there is no export in Premiere Elements with the file extension of MTS. If you had selected Share/Computer/MPEG with Presets = MPEG2 1920 x 1080i30, the file type = MPEG2 Blu-ray, not MTS.

More than likely Yes. Going from progressive to interlaced would probably be OK. But going from interlaced to progressive would be expected to give questionable results.
3.
If you do not feel that pre-import file merging is a consideration in your circumstances, then import your files with the
Project Preset = NTSC AVCHD Full HD 1080i30
and export
Share/Computer/AVCHD with Presets = M2T 1920 x 1080i30
Your workflow would be dependant on computer resources and the size of the project.
Commentary regarding
I seem to be in a circular wrestling match with people who instead of answering my questions keep telling me what they want me to do.
I fear that my post may also be looked on in the same light since what has been offered already seems to me to be the answers that you were seeking. But, what I have written is my take and double take on what you have asked. If you do some online reading on the subject of differences between MPEG4 AVC/H.264 (AVCHD) and MPEG2 you will find that properties adjustments can be made so that the two compare more closely quality wise. Often you see advice given to do short runs of the clips to see what works for them. File size often factors into all this. I do not see this as the generalization of one size fits all.
Hope the above helps.
Thanks for reading this.

  • Help on using Export Settings

    Hello
Supposably by using "Export Settings >> Use Another Excel File" during export of a visualization would generate a flash file with the data defined on the "Use Another Excel File" file specification.
All the tests I have performed this feature does not work at all.
What am I doing wrong? Does this feature actually works or it has a BUG?
What is the idea behind this configuration and how the data is actually swaped by using the other spreadsheet data?
    Regards
    BKA

    Andy
Thanks for the reply but from my tests it still does not work. Or maybe I did not understand the functionality it is trying to implement.
From my understanding if we use this feature than when I press PREVIEW or export it to PowerPoint the data that xCelisus uses to generate the view comes directly from the EXCEL file specified in the entry
EXPORT SETTINGS >> USE ANOTHER EXCEL FILE
Thus if we change a cell -- conected to a text box -- in the above excel file (not on the embedded Excel) this should reflect onto changes in the visualization. Thus the text box should now show the new value (not the value on the embedded excel).
This is the test I´m performing and the result is always the value actually stored in the embedded excel (thus the feature is not working).....

  • Imovie08 export settings for good quality

I'm using iMovie08 with my Canon HF100 but cannot find the best export settings for my MP4-files. The exported movie needs to run on my PS3 and my macbook. I want to export in 720p and 1080p format, using H.256 and ACC, but I'm not sure what bitrate to use for my movies to get acceptable quality. Tried using 5000k for 720p but that left me with lots of compression artifacts.
    Any hints?

For 1080p try unlimited bitrate or a minimum of 16000.

  • Best export settings for 1080i50?

I (mainly) use a Canon Legria HF R16 for my footage, and my clips (original) have the following characteristics:
    1 video stream: AVC
    1 audio stream: AC-3
    Maximum bitrate: 18Mbps
    Video:
    15Mbps
    1920 * 1080 (16:9), 25fps (interlaced, 50fields/second)
    AVC ([email protected])
    CABAC / 2 ref. frames
    Audio:
    256Kbps
    48KHz
    16bits
    2 channels
    AC-3
I use Adobe Premiere Elements 9 with my Mac mini (OS X 10.10.2) for editing my movies. I currently use for export the "H.264 1920x1080i 25" preset. My question is: is it meaningful to use custom settings to (for example) set a higher bitrate such as 30Mbps bitrate?
PS: Generally speaking, which bitrate is consider enough for "Full HD" 1080i50 (50fields/sec, 25 interlaced frames/sec) exported movies?

I tried to edit my post 1 when I realized that I answered your question from the version 13 rather than 9 with some of the details.
But, you posted before I could do that.
Here is post 1, edited in this post since I cannot get back into the post 1 original.
If you are using for your 1920 x 1080 (50i) source and the export settings
    Share
    Computer
    MPEG2
    with Presets = H.264 1920 x 1080i25
The default bitrate settings are VBR with Target 20 Mbps and Maximum 21 Mbps (that is with Profile High and Level 4.0)
Your original has the maximum bitrate of 18 Mbps. So, it would be expected that the file size of the export
should be greater than the source. Is that the case? And, if so, is the increased file size acceptable?
Note: If you take Advanced Button/Video Tab's Profile High and Level 4.1, your max possible video bitrate goes 21/21 to 35 /35 Mbps with regard
to Target Bitrate and Maximum Bitrate.
Bottom line is your original source video bitrate should at least be met in the export settings bitrate and the file size be met as per your
    requirements.
My thoughts...if you find an increased video bitrate improves the quality of the export and does not make the
file size prohibitive, then go with it. But be careful that your video bitrate changes do not drive the audio out of sync.
Bitrate settings do need exploration and experimentation on individual basis.
    ATR
Add On...some of the details above were edited since I overlooked in the original write up that this question was related to 9 instead of 13.
    But, with regard to
However, all other factors aside, which is the bitrate that you consider proper for Full HD 1080i?
I am still going with exploration and experimentation, but zeroing in on about 18 to 26 Mbps for the MPEG2 H.264 1920 x 1080 (50i).
Please see my comments on setting Profile and Level to accommodate Advanced export settings to set up to max 35/35 instead of 21/21.

  • Best settings for exporting and dropping a MOV file into iDVD7?

I have a movie (originally shot in HD), made in iMovieHD6, and that I'd like to export and drop into iDVD7. *What settings would the brain trust recommend?* I cannot seem to get iDVD to render a good version through direct export from iMovie. (As a side, I wonder if it is because I started this process by bringing AVCHD files from my camera into iMovie8 and "going backwards" to iMovieHD6.)

I have used Pro-res from Final Cut Pro into iDVD and it works.
*This is from iDVD help menu:*
Video and image formats that work with iDVD
You can use these movie and graphic formats in iDVD:

Most video or image files supported by QuickTime (see the list of unsupported QuickTime formats below)

    16:9 widescreen formats

AAC, MP3, and AIFF audio files

Any format from iMovie: DV, high-definition video (HDV), MPEG-2 SD, MPEG-2 SD, MPEG-4 SD, MPEG-4 HD, and AVCHD
High definition video is converted to work with the format of your project. iDVD supports using 16:9 widescreen video; therefore, when your DVD plays on a DVD player that supports widescreen format, the footage appears in its original aspect ratio.
The following video and image formats are not supported in iDVD:

    Copyrighted or protected videos.

Movies saved in thousands of colors using the “none” compression setting in iMovie.

48-bit color images (16 bits per color). To use source files in one of these formats in iDVD, save them in a supported format.

Aurora uncompressed files. For best results, export Aurora clips as DV-format video before importing them into iDVD.

QuickTime VR, MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, Flash, streaming or encrypted movies, or QuickTime spanned movies. You can’t add MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files to an iDVD project because they don’t contain standard video tracks.

QuickTime Fast Start movies. (Fast Start movies are intended for Internet playback.) When saving a QuickTime movie for use with iDVD, click the Options button in the QuickTime Export dialog and make sure that the “Prepare for Internet Streaming” checkbox is not selected.

  • Adobe Premier Elements 12 - Exporting trimmed AVCHD files from the project timeline, to a separate folder for burning to Blu Ray disc with other software?

Hi, can anyone help please.  This is the first time I have used this forum.
I use Premier Elements 12, a PC, 64 Bit, Windows 7, high powered computer.
Just started trimming AVCHD in this software.
I would like to know if it is possible to export trimmed AVCHD files to a folder elsewhere (files which were originally imported into the project timeline), so that I can burn the trimmed AVCHD files (not in 'Project' form)  to Blu Ray disc (using another software which I know that works to burn video files to Blu Ray disc).

Thanks for the update. Your progress sounds very good.
Premiere Elements 11, 12, and 13 are similar. But, version 13 has significant feature removals and a new Elements Organizer.
So, when viewing or reading tutorials, try to determine the version of the program being used for the tutorials. As I typically write
principles tend to remain the same from version to version, but the features tend to move, change, or be discontinued from version
to version. And, it is frustrating to be armed with principles when you cannot find a feature.

  • What export settings do I use to creat a .mov from a .MTS file?

    Hello!
I have a .MTS file that needs to be exported to a .mov file for online submission guidelines. The picture quality is bad when there is movement. I inserted screen shots of the codecs for the native .MTS files and the export settings I used for a .mov files. I played around with the settings a lot. Thank you so much to anyone who helps, I really appreciate it :¬)

    I will drink to that...

  • In FCE, what export settings will correct flickering when converting an avi native file to .mov?

I have a 27 min. avi file that has a lot of still imagery with motion effects. When I export this as an .mov file with default settings, there is flickering on some of the landscape imagery. This doesn't occur in the native file. What are the optimal settings to correct this problem and produce the best quality end product on a DVD?

So what are good options for file conversion from mpg? Usually I simply use QuickTime Pro (augmented with to view and occasionally trim and splice video clips from various sources, including web page-linked .mpgs and .flvs This has a lot of limitations - poor picture quality, not recognizing spliced clips, exported files blowing up to as much as 50x the original filesize and more. No doubt the answer is partly, "you get what you pay for" but I'm not sure how much better specific commercial applications will work for me.
When I look at video file properties in any application, e.g. QT or VLC, there are always many parameters I don't think are important, but am not sure. Is there a good simple guide to the structure and hierarchies of various video file types which can help explain and identify the characteristics to look for when setting file conversion controls?

  • Ideal import and export settings to make a master (uncompressed file)

editing in FCP VERSION 6.0.5 ON A MACBOOK PRO. The footage I'm working with is one 26 GB Quicktime file (16 minute duration), standard definition, 725 x 576, 10 bit uncompressed.
Basically I need to make this file, which is a short film, 1 minute shorter to be eligible to enter it into the Cannes Film festival next week.
What would be the ideal import and and export settings to make a new master e.g. to create a new file that is most uncompressed.
I very much appreciate your help!

It seems that every time you reply your goal has changed.
If you're worried about the self-contained movie requiring FCP to open, that's a simple fix. Right-click on the file and choose Get Info. In the Info window, change the 'Opens With' to QuickTime Player. You'll maintain the best quality and others won't need FCP to open it.

  • Is there a way (or a plugin) to export develop settings into a readable file format?

For online educational/sharing purposes, I'd like to be able to export my LR develop settings into a readable text format so that if I share a before/after picture I can also include the LR develop settings that went into creating the after picture.  I've looked for 2 days and I can't find a plug-in that will do this.

The List View plugin can export develop settings as a CSV file for Excel or HTML for a browser.
If you're technically minded and comfortable with scripting, it's straightforward to write a script that reads the settings from the XMP metadata stored in the .xmp sidecars (for raws) or in the XMP metadata section of JPEGs and TIFFs.   Open a .xmp sidecar in your favorite text editor to get a flavor of how the develop settings are stored there.

  • How can I join/merge my AVCHD files that I tape with my camcorder without re-encoding the files?

I have a lot of tapes that cut in the middle while recording more than 12 minutes. I would like to join/merge my files. What should I do? Which softwares should I use?

Because I don't have any of Sony's softwares, or softwares that they use, I can't help much on that side of things, but programs that I use are
Freemake Video Converter to convert it into a format that VirtualDub can read, then use VirtualDub to load up the first file, then use the Amend AVI to add the next file that you want to merge, and keep going until you're ready.
Then I check the video and audio compression, make sure they're on full compression, choose the codec and video bitrate, and audio bitrate that I want, and save.
I'm sure Sony's programs, or the ones they use, make it much easier. Try PlayMemories and Sony Vegas, they'll work with the AVCHD files without too much extra converting (and if it does convert, it's all in-program so should be much easier)

  • What are the Best Web File Export settings?

I am running Premiere Pro CS3 on Win XP SP3, 4 GB RAM. I have tried several settings exporting a 2 1/2 minutes movie trailer to Windows Media Player, .flv, Quicktime, and Real Video files, so that I can add it to a web site for downloading. Of course, all of these are compressed files. I've tried very many settings but am having trouble getting a relatively good quality resolution file that is small enough to load fairly quickly. The best file is a Quicktime file. However, even though the movie plays in a small window, it is 41 MB (a big file).
Please share any settings that have produced a good quality file under 10 MB.
    Thanks,
    Linda

    > You just need to use a larger file or settle for less quality
This is not always exactly true. There are many things that can affect the perceived quality. In Premiere's case:
1.) Deinterlacing: If your sources are interlaced, Premiere (by default) will deinterlace them before scaling down for web export. Premiere's deinterlacer is as bad as it gets. If you are doing a ratio >= 2:1 (such as 480i -> 240p) it is probably better to untick the "deinterlace" checkbox, as the line-pairs will be blended on output anyway because of the large scaling ratio.
2.) Soft scaling: Premiere's Bicubic resampling is not really ideal for large ratio reductions. Unfortunately, there is not much way around this without using other tools.
3.) Noise: Video noise can greatly reduce the efficiency of encoding -- and therefore, when using a set data rate, it makes lowers quality output. Premiere does have a noise reduction filter option in AME, but it is quite slow and not the most sophisticated solution. You may want to experiment with it anyway: It can potentially make low bandwidth encodes look much better.
4.) Frame rate: It seems like a basic concept, but many people forget that you can greatly increase your spatial quality by reducing the frame rate. If you can live without the motion smoothness of 30 fps, you can get much higher quality with 15 fps at the same data rate.
5.) Two-pass Encoding: Unfortunately, Premiere does not have 2-pass for FLV VP6 which, IMO, is probably the "best looking" web output. You should look at other tools like Sorenson Squeeze or On2 Flix. In these cases you'll need to export a lossless intermediary AVI file to maximize quality.

  • Joining AVCHD clips into a simple MPEG output file

I'm using PE 10 and just tried joining AVCHD 5 clips using the Instant Movie sequence. I saved it as a file for use on a computer. It took nearly an hour to render the file and when it was done, I emded up with an F4V file which requires conversion to something else to view it  or to be able to email the file to others and have them view the movie.   Is there any way in PE to create a simple MPEG or AVI output file?
I don't want to create fancy Projects, just want to be able to merge a sequence of files so anyone with a simple PC or Apple computer can watch the home videos.

Thanks to you both for the hint on scrolling down the list, however, I think the only ones I'm interested in were already visible in the scroll box. Part of the problem is that I'm not sure what I want from a technical spec angle, all I want to do is take the MP4 original files from the camera and create A FILE that will run easily on most computers, whatever format that needs to be. (?)
Anyway, I built another project (didn't do the Instant Movie this time) and output it as an MP4. (The input is from a Sony A55 SLT that they say is NTSC AVCHD and the files coming out have an MP4 extension).  The project MP4 wouldn't run as a video in Windows Media only as an audio source. ???  So I used a converter to change the file to an AVI becuase I've been able to run that type before. Not this time..  Nothing I have on my computer will run this file. So I got the latest version of Windows Media and now the original MP4 output does run, but with some problems. First, the tile page still says YOUR TITLE GOES HERE because I was never able to figure out how to edit the title banner. Then about 30 seconds into the video (approx. 4 minute video) it paused on it's own. When I click right next to the cursor, it starts up again and then in 20 or 30 seconds it goes into high speed until I again click on the timeline. It also replicated my last clip (7th) as the 3rd clip. Very confusing!
I should also mention that I also saved another copy as an AVI file and that output wouldn't do anything.
And even before all this happened, I was dismayed to see that even when I selected DO NOT RENDER before starting the SAVE, as soon as I clicked on SAVE, it started rendering and it took over 2 hours to render and save this 4 minute film.  Ridiculous !!!
A few years ago I used an app where I was able to merge files, add transitions individually, including my own title sheet, and then save it to the DVD format with far less complication than this. It might have been an app tailored toDVD output and therefore been simpler.

  • Batch Process - Export Settings - File Name Template syntax?

Can anyone explain the syntax for the File Name Templates in the Export Settings of Batch Process?  Back in the good ol days of Audition 3, I could use ???????? to keep just the first 8 characters of the original filename for my processed files.  In CS6 there are a few templates, but no decent explanation as to what they do or how to create your own.  Can anyone shed some light?

Yes, I believe %n is the original name, but what sort of syntax is available to modify the filename ?  There is one that does "%a\%d\%t -%s" for instance, but I don't know what it does.  And you aren't allowed to use * or ? characters, which really limits wildcarding.
The one I am needing to do is rename original files that are 12 characters long -- 00000x00_001.wav -- to just the first 8 characters -- 00000x00.wav
I should probably put this in another post, but does anyone know offhand how to get the "interpret sample rate as" to work in a batch "favorite" process?  I do the action when I am creating the "Favorite" but it skips that step when applying it to a file.
