Best settings for exporting and dropping a MOV file into iDVD7?

I have a movie (originally shot in HD), made in iMovieHD6, and that I'd like to export and drop into iDVD7. *What settings would the brain trust recommend?* I cannot seem to get iDVD to render a good version through direct export from iMovie. (As a side, I wonder if it is because I started this process by bringing AVCHD files from my camera into iMovie8 and "going backwards" to iMovieHD6.)

I have used Pro-res from Final Cut Pro into iDVD and it works.

Drag and drop simple ".mov" files, into 2 dif. browsers, no longer working

Did something, that caused my main drag and drop, of simple ".mov" files, into 2 different browsers - "Safari", Version 3.0.4, and "Camino", Version 1.6.8, .. to stop working.
To be clear, this is regarding, just some simply ".mov" files which I have generated. (Individual hourly, weather images - like; in sequence. Generated, in / with, QuickTime - itself.)
At this point, where dropped from a folder, into "Camino", .. it routes these back to my main desktop. - (Before the problem, .. played them, in browser.)
"Safari", only brings up the folder that the main file is in — within a separate folder window.
(As with "Camino", played these in browser, previously.)
(Have gone into "preferences", either browser, .. and can't figure things from there.)
Problem occurred follow two different downloads / installations
"DjVu Browser Plug-in"

.. they had previously, ... don't know what I did exactly to caused this circumstance.
.. is my question. (.. if not fully clear.)
Just looking to try to find out what I can do, either whether to "back-off" from what I've done - more recently, regarding the two different downloads that I've pointed to above, .. apparently - only, having, superseded a more simply configuration .. previously working.
This, or either, adjust the settings - broader / somewhere (more generally) - otherwise, .. in order to have these files, play, .. in browser.

Best Settings for Exporting DVD Footage in a Movie File

Hello,
I've been trying to find the best settings for exporting DVD footage into a movie file from Adobe Premiere CS6.
I recently have been using my Magnavox DVD recorder for recording VHS tapes that I made long ago for shows and various other things, and no matter what, my footage doesn't come out as it needs to be.

I'm not expecting HD footage, I know these are tapes, but I'm playing the raw footage on my Xbox 360, and it looks better than this. I had to directly use the VOB files on the DVD for this, as trying to rip the files into an AVI or any other format with a DVD ripper didn't do anything, in fact it degraded the quality and made the audio not play in Premiere.
So what would be some good settings for exporting a sequence with DVD footage that is from a VHS into a movie file, preferably one that wouldn't degrade the quality?

First, read Why not edit mpeg http://tangentsoft.net/video/mpeg/edit.html to get a general idea of why a VOB makes a very poor source file (which is a renamed MPG, with some other stuff like menu screens)

Once you have a DVD compliant VOB on your timeline, and understanding that a standalone DVD recorder sometimes plays fast-n-loose with "compliance" per the DVD specification, about all you can do is export to standard or widescreen DV AVI and accept the fact that re-encoding an already compressed file is just not going to give great results

Which are the best settings for exporting comps before edditing in Premiere Pro

As the title says, which are the best settings for exporting comps from AE to Pr.Pro and then edit them?
Let me explain: I have two comps in AE (intro and outro) and want to export them in Pr.Pro for edditing along with a fottage i shot.
When i render them the size of the files are huge (30 sec= 7GB).
Which is the best method (and settings) i can export the intro and outro to a 'normal' file size and then put them in Pr.Pro without loosing any quality??

If you're rendering and exporting an intermediate video file to go from After Effects to any other piece of post-production software (such as Premiere Pro), you want to make sure that you're not losing any quality.
Most compression methods, which make movies smaller, also lose some of the image data---i.e., quality. There are a few compression methods that don't lose any image data; these are "lossless" codecs. These lossless codecs do decrease the size of a video file, but they're nowhere near as effective at decreasing size as the lossy codecs are. But file size isn't important when you're doing post-production work. Big files are a fact of life in post-production.
Examples of lossless codecs include the PNG codec and the Animation codec at the highest quality settings, both of which can be used in a QuickTime (.mov) container. I prefer the PNG codec; it's more efficient for photorealistic images, whereas Animation is more efficient for things like cartoons. There are lots of other lossless and nearly lossless codecs. A lot of people that do video editing like the Lagarith codec, but that is something that you'd have to go and get; it's not part of a standard CS5 or QuickTime installation.

By the way, keep in mind that you don't always need to render and export an intermediate movie to go from After Effects to Premiere Pro. There are other ways to move data back and forth between these applications, including Dynamic Link. Which is best depends on the specific circumstance. What version of Premiere Elements are you using on Mac?
Export your Timeline content to a .mp4 file, using export settings which have been customized under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the export's preset.
See Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD and .mp4 category. The exported file is then uploaded to YouTube at the YouTube web site.
If you post the properties of your source video and project settings, I will suggest the settings for the Timeline content export to file saved to the computer
hard drive for upload to YouTube at the YouTube web site.

I want to edit a voice recording, done in WMA format, in Garage Band.
I saw a video in which the fie is simply draged and dropped in the timeline area, and the time line appears. Then youcan edit it.
But when I drag and drop this WMA file into the editing area, it jumps back out to where I dragged it from.
Is there any way to import WMA files intoGarage Band?

Best settings for exporting from AE

Hi,
I am wondering what the best settings to export to from AE for editing in Premiere CS5.5. Previously I would digitize from tape and would export lossless .avi from AE but now I am using XDCAM EX 1080 50i sequence presets on Premiere and I wonder if I should amend the settings from AE or just keep them as lossless?

I can't drag and drop iTunes music files into Roxio Jam 6 anymore and, now I have to import music one song at a time by using the " " or "-" buttons on the bottom. What is going on? G5 Dual 2 Ghz and OS 10.4.11

Hi. I have not used Roxio Jam for quite a long time and I just wanted to make a few CDs. Jam used to work easily and well. I have a problem. I can't drag and drop iTunes music files anymore and, now I have to import music one song at a time by using the "+" or "-" buttons on the bottom. What is going on? I trashed the preferences file and restarted Jam to no avail. I also have selected that Jam should open files with iTunes in the Jam preferences. I have a G5 DP 2Ghz PPC machine with OS 10.4.11, iTunes 9.2.1 and Quicktime's version is 7.6.4. I have 2 GB of RAM and the machine has dual 1.25 Ghz. processors plus a 500 GB HD. Can anybody give me any suggestions?

I found an solution.
Uninstalling AirParrot as well as the two offending AirParrotDriver.kext and APExtFramebuffer.kext files in System>Library>Extensions was the fix. All problems disappeared.

High degradation of image quality dropping SnapzPro mov file into iMovie HD 6.03

I'm using the older version of iMovie HD 6.03 because it is much easier to work with in syncing audio to images.
I'm making a music video shot on my Nikon. The AVI files look alright, but when I drop a movie file captured with
SnapzPro, the quality degrades terribly, really unusable. The Ambrosia folks tell me there is an automatic conversion
from the mov file to DV taking place which doesn't happen in later versions of iMovie. I really prefer the interface on
the older version and am seasoned with it. Is there a way to bring in the mov file without degrading it?

Is your goal to create a DVD? PAL or NTSC? Then capture with Snapz Pro at the resolution Karsten told you (that's the first two he mentioned.)
If your goal is larger definition than a DVD, then capture in one of the two last resolutions Karsten mentioned.
If you only want computer screen viewing, then I recommend a 720p project in iMovie and a 1280x720 pixel capture.
If you only want to burn a Bluray disc and watch on a HD-TV, then I recommend an 1080i project and a 1920x1080 capture.

4K footage to DVD: what are the best settings for exporting in Premiere Pro CC v7.2.2?

I am editing a big bunch of short 4K clips (XAVC in MP4) which will then go onto DVDs. The idea is to get as many of those clips on a DVD as possible. Using Premiere Pro 7.2.2 on Windows 8.
What I would like to know is whether I'm actually using the best possible settings for this case, because the video exported to MPEG2-DVD doesn't look that good. Or maybe it needs to be exported to a different format and rather converted to DVD format after?
The sequence setting are the following:
RED Cinema
Frame rate: 29,97 fps
3840x2160 (16:9)
Square pixels
The export settings I've been using:
MPEG2-DVD
Aspect ratio: 16:9
TV Format: PAL
Field order: progressive
Frame rate: 25
Video quality: 100
Bitrate: VBR
1, I've tried different bitrates, also setting minimum at 9, but this blows up the file size too much (as i mentioned, the idea is to get at many clips as possible on a DVD)
GOP: M - 3, N - 15 (haven't touched those)
Multiplexer: none (should i put DVD?)
I'm using maximum render quality
Have I given all the information?

As Ann has advised do not expect too much, you are going down a lot in quality.
Why are you also going from NTSC to a PAL output?
Premiere will drop frames to get from 29.97 to 25.
PAL DVD players read NTSC discs fine as long as they are region 0
Why are you trying to produce a DVD anyway?
A Bluray would be far better quality.
Also a minimum 9 is way wrong, c9.6 is the max in the spec and hence avoided as your system is trying to push the spec limits to close.
I used to use 6 - 7.5 - 8.8 in my VBR and they looked fine, now I am all HD.

Best settings for exporting to play in Windows Media Player on Powerpoint

I'm trying to export from FCP X by sending clips to Compressor 4.04 however the online lessons on lynda.com - my go-to source - and in Compressor manuals don't appear up-to-date with the actual latest revisions and I'm confused about whether to use QuickTime Export Components to get video that will play instantly in Windows Powerpoint either if its running on a Sony PC or being projected on a big screen (not HD).
Also lynda.com says 10,000 bit rate is best but the version used in the lesson limited one to 10,000 while the update goes past 30K. Which setting will work best for my purpose?
Some help on these settings for this novice Compressor user sure would help me make my deadline. My deliverable to a client is a collection of clips that play in the Windows Media Player. thanks

Are you referring to a Lynda.com Compressor tutorial or one of their many PPT tutorials.
I agree that 10 Mbs is a nice general quality level – depending on your footage, of course – the content, the lighting, etc. WMV is probably the safest – although MP4 should be good as well,
Hard to be more specific except to say, Test. A preset that works well for one movie may look not-so-great applied to another.
Take a short, representative section and encode. Project the output file and see what you think.

Best settings for exporting crisp video/graphic from iMovie to YouTube?

Hi, I am working on a video for a client and after viewing on YouTube they had some issues with the type not looking "crisp," and I'm not sure how to fix it, not sure if it's a YouTube thing or something I am doing wrong.
I am working in iMovie 6/HD on OS 10.4.11. I do my "type slides" in Photoshop and import them into the iMovie as photos (JPGs). I know some text/titles can be done in iMovie but there is very little control I have over what goes where, so by making my type slides in Photoshop I have more creative control to do what I want. I have done tests and it doesn't seem to matter what resolution the Photoshop files are when they're imported, the results are always the same.
If anyone has a better suggestion for doing the type slides I'd gladly welcome them, but I think what I really need to know is the following:
What are the best expert settings to export my iMovie file as, so that when I upload to YouTube, the quality stays fairly crisp? Or does YouTube's compression just negate anything I can do on my end?
I have googled and found settings recs on other sites and other boards and tried a bunch of them and my results aren't any better than my original effort.
From another post on this board I discovered I could play with the Filters setting when exporting, and I have set that to Sharpen and also used the Brightness filter to lighten the video (it was a little dark). I uploaded to YouTube and I think it is a little better, but would still love the info if anyone has a guaranteed rec for correct settings for YouTube video from iMovie HD/6.

Have you tried de-interlacing before exporting?
Sometimes, when I'm in a rush, I would expand the Canvas/Viewer (viewed at 100%), pick the clearest frame, and do a screen capture.
For example, with the captured image (in Photoshop), I have a marquee preset at 640x480 (NTSC). I created an action to crop, resize to 720x480, then set the Pixel Aspect Ratio to NTSC.

Best settings for export for network access/viewing

I'd like to export various movies to h264 and store them on my imac g5 and use this as a video jukebox for access via my powerbook g4 over airport express. i want to be able to open the remote file and play it at the highest quality and smoothest possible playback. what would be optimal settings?
i've tried ripping a few dvds and other files at 640X480, 600 - 700 kbits/sec. at about 23 frames/sec. file size at those settings is great: 550-700mb but the playback is a bit jumpy... image quality is pretty good with just a little bit of pixilation.
should i push the bitrate further down? should i make the movie smaller... something less than 640X480?

hey jeff, thanks for the reply. i agree that h264 does indeed require a good bit of power. at the moment all i have is the airport express which shares my internet so i cannot really use ethernet. not to mention i prefer the freedom of wireless.
I think what confuses me is the bitrate. airport extreme is rated at 54 Mbps... should that not handle a movie file encoded at 500 or 700 or even 1,000 kbits/sec? am i not understanding the terminology of Mbps and kbits?
i'll add that since my original post i've been scaling the movies down as you mentioned and that helps a bit though there are still skips. should i go to 400 kbits/sec? smaller frame rate? currently i'm sticking with the original movie frame rate.

Best Settings For Exporting A Widescreen Project?

I have edited a project which is in widescreen. I want to export the movie with the highest quality but I don't want it to appear squashed, stretched and of poor quality when I play it back in QuickTime, which is all I have achieve so far.

A disk image (.img file) is a file which your computer can treat as if it was a physical disc (CD or DVD). For instance, if you created a disc image file from an iDVD project (File>Save as Disc Image), you could mount that file on your desktop like a physical DVD and open it with the DVD Player application.
What myDVDedit does for you is manipulate that .img file so that it winds up with the aspect ratio you want. You use myDVDedit to adjust the .img file, then use the Disc Utility application to burn the adjusted .img file to DVD, creating a finished DVD with the desired aspect ratio.
