Exporting DVCPRO HD 1080i

I have completed a multi-track (6video tracks/9 audio tracks)13 minute edit. Video , titles, stills, music, voice...just a normal edit really. Now I want to make a DVD. In the past with SD DVCAM I always export my multi-track edit into a one piece AVI before converting to mpeg for DVD. This always seems to clean up any strange things from happening to my final DVD video.
Now when I export my DVCPRO HD 1080i muti-track project to a one piece DVCPRO HD 1080i file it comes out missing little clips and some titles....?
Any comments or ideas?
Thanks,
Mark Voigt

I have taken footage in HD 1080i. Presently I need to make a movie in DVD format using my HD footage, but I would like to assemble my footage in HD so that if in the future I want to upgrade it won't be a problem. So can I make my movie in HD1080i and export it to DVD format? If so, how? Or if I make it in DVD format is there an easy way to upgrade my movie to HD in the future?

  • Fcpx imports DVCPro HD 1080i always as NTSC/1080p

    Hallo to All,
I have a problem importing DVCPro HD 1080i50 material in fcpx 10.0.3. The imported clips always appear as NTSC 1080p clips and they are not longer interlaced, even if my project is ProRes 442 HQ 1080i 1920x1080. How can I import an DVCPro HD 1080i clip in the right way?
    Thnks for helping

I tried making all sequence settings DV but still no luck. Just get a black screen on playback of tape. Very weird. Frame size, pixel ratio, compressor all DV.
I have a screening coming up soon so I'll probably have a post facility make a DVCAM from the HDCAM master tape, which which will probably look better anyway than doing it in FCP from the DVCPro file. Still it would be nice to figure out why it isn't working.

  • Premier CS3 is demolishing my DVCPRO HD 1080i footage

My project looks BEAUTIFUL on my original timeline but by the time it is encoded to standard DVD specs (progressive or interlaced) it looks almost like VHS. I have read the discussions about what the CS3 deinterlacing does to our beautiful HD footage.
I have also read the very detailed work arounds posted by Dan Isaacs. I really appreciate the extreme technical knowledge and talent that Dan and those who follow Dans procdures have. I on the other hand am just a professional editor/producer that has been doing video production full time for 20 years. I do not have the knowledge or time to follow this procedure.
All I want is for Premier CS3 to render my HD footage into acceptable DVD quality. Is the new CS4 going to do a better job of rendering DVCPRO HD 1080i???? Or do I need to go to a different editing program after using Premier since the days of 5.1???
    Please Help if you can...
    Thanks,

Unfortunately, the links to the original articles are possibly broken now - forum changeover. However, you *might* be able to locate the new links via Search. It's different now, as you have to initiate the Search, Enter, ignore what is found, then go to Options. There you can set the criteria for Forum, and then add Dan to the list. That *should* get you close. Might take some doing. If I can locate Dan's excellent articles in the new forum, I'll be sure to post the current links. Until the Google (and other) 'bots complete a full sweep of the new forum, and compile the new links, older articles just might be out in limbo.

[Edit] Here's ONE for you, but it's mostly Dan's replies and not the main How To article that I'm looking for.
[Edit 2] Here is ANOTHER, that looks like the original article, but seems truncated, in that this link goes to Jeff Bellune's reply, which, IIRC was way down the thread. Maybe the original is lost forever.

  • Exporting DVCPRO HD720p50 to DVD (PAL)

Hi. I'm currently edit on DVCPRO HD720p50, using FCP 6.0.2, Blackmagic HD card.
The video looks fine after upgraded my FCP to 6.0.2. It is extremely impressive in the timeline, but having problem in DVD (PAL) output.
I have tried out several approach, e.g. exporting direct from timeline using Compressor, export uncompressed mov and import to DVD Studio Pro, editing on different timeline and formats, but it ended up with the same problem - flicker visual. It ONLY works fine with DVCPRO HD720p50, editing timebase:50 (not even 25), and only can play back with SDI. Anything other than this setting will be flicker.
Is there any solution for this? Any suggestions to export DVCPRO HD720p50 to DVD in PAL? Help...

Finally, I found the way to do it.
DVCPRO HD 720p50 works absolutely fine when I export as a NTSC DVD, but it flickle when I export as PAL. Anyone know why?
I intended to export a PAL DVD, thus shot in 50p, but Compressor does not work well with PAL.

  • Final Cut Export DVCPRO HD720p uncompressed/hi-res for tape and projection

Well I've been through the many suggestions found throughout the forum and have tried many combinations of exporting options, timeline options and codecs and still for the life of me can't find the one that works. Please offer any advice you can.
    Objective:
Export a 30 minute film with a DVCPro HD 720p60 timeline shot in 720p 23.98fps as uncompressed and as high resolution as possible for transfer to a Beta-SP for big screen projection.
In trying the Uncompressed 8 and 10 bit exports the film's video became jumpy and some color's over saturated to the point of pixelation (is that a word?). I've created new Uncompressed timelines and exported from there as well to the same over saturated/pixel effect.
Is just an export of a Quicktime movie with current settings and then use compressor with "DVDPRO HD 720p60" my best options? I've tried that too but not happy with the softness of some of it and as we're projecting BIG, I want to have the best resolution possible.
Oh - and this time - size does NOT matter.
    Thanks for any pointers.

What I mean is - how to create then a Quicktime someone without Final Cut can play. Exporting as a self-contained Quicktime movie does not seem to creat the stand alone file I may need. Any tips?

  • Exporting DVCPRO HD 720p60 Quality Problems with P2 footage.

I have ingested several clips from P2 cards some shot at 24 and some at 60 using fcp 5.1.4. When I go to export out a QT file I choose file>export>using quick time conversion. Under format options I select DVCPRO HD 720p60 for compression type, but I get no quality settings under the compressor heading to modify. Just Motion, preview and data rate. All of wich are locked... When I hit okay the movie settings dialog box reads Compression:DVCPRO HD 720p60 Quality: Medium Dimensions: 960x720 (1248x702) (Compressor Native). How do I change the quality to best? A friend told me he had the option to change in fcp v 5.0.1. Also, in the Sequence Setting Dialog Box under QuickTime Video Settings I select Advanced and it shows me the compression type DVCPRO HD 720p60 and Motion with Frames per second, but the box under Compressor is blank as well. Is my software faulty or am I going about exporting exporting a high quality QT HD 720p60 file the wrong way?
Secondly, when I ingest footage from a P2 card does it maintain the frame rate data that it was captured at digitally regardless of the projects audio video settings? I ask this because one project I did the easy setup after I already created a sequence by mistake with dv settings and the footage show a vid rate in the bin at 23.98 fps regardless if it is footage shot at 23.98 or 59.94. When I made a new project using the easy setup from the start and ingested a clip shot at 60 it show in the as vid rate of 59.94 not 239.8 like the first project I made. A tad confused as I feel I am not getting the best quality out of my footage. Does this have to do with setting the camera to 24pn for variable frame rates? Or does the vid rate pull from the project setting?
As a side note, some of the footage I export appears to be slightly grainy, not sure if this is a result of the setting problems I am having.
    Thank You in Advance!!!
    Best,
    Hans

If you are trying to export and maintain the same quality you have in the timeline then you don't need to use conversion. Just export to Quick Time Movie and check the box for Use Current Settings and Make Self Contained.

  • How do you export DVCPRO HD correctly?

Hey guys, we shot all our footage on HVX with P2 cards at 720p60 @ 23.98fps. I editing everything at that format. Now im done with the edit and the designers want an image sequence. I export out an image sequence and it exports as 960x720 (the codec the camera records at) which makes it look anamorphic. Now i tried to set my sequence to 1280x720 then export, All it does is add black pilar bars to make it 1280x720. What is the correct way to export a DVCPRO HD sequence? Thanks in advance.

Perfect! You don't need to worry about any conversions of your image sequence out of Final Cut then.
I work in After Effects all the time with Varicam and HVX footage in this manner. Export the way you did it (squishy right).
After Effects brings that in natively and you artists will have no problems with it, nor will they have problems doing their work and sending it back out so you can use it in FCP.
It's all about pixel aspect ratio, you are giving them full frame images. It's weird, I know, but when you create DVCPROHD seqeunces in After Effects, you are looking at them squishy pretty much all the time (unless you toggle the view to be "normal").
Shoot me an e-mail since your local and I'll shoot you my phone number if you have any other questions about the workflow. [email protected]

  • Exporting 1080p to 1080i QT frame count

Just thought I'd share my experience with exporting a 1080p 59.94 sequence
    to a 1080i 29.97 QT.
The resulting QT will have additional black at the end that needs to be
    trimmed off.
When I export a :10 sec spot it will create a :20 QT file with :10 program and :10 black. So the export maintains the original frame count.
Don't know if compressor would handle it differently.

It probably won't make a difference, but try deleting the zeros in the timing fields on export, just leave them blank instead of putting zeros in them. See if it comes out any different.

  • DVCPRO HD 1080i 59.97 or 29.97

Hi, I have a lot of DVCPRO HD Tape to digitize. And the crew dosen't know if they shoot in 29.97 or 59.97. I can capture it in both frame rate and they both play fine. If I use the 'abort capture on drop frame' with the 29.97 it stop capturing after 2-3 minutes . if im in 59.97 it stop after about 21 frame... If I don't use it the both capture of course, but some clip frezees and make the clip offsync...
Also the clip that I capture in 59,94 only appears to have 29.97 in the timeline.. even in my clip setting... weird..
Im using an ajhd 1400 deck. Does anybody know how can I figure out witch fps they used ?

1080i is only 29.97 fps. 720p is 59.94. 1080i60 means 60 interlaced fields...30fps. So choose the DVCPRO HD 1080i60. The inability to capture is most likely due to the hard drive you are trying to capture to. What kind of drive is it? How is it formatted? How is it connected? You only have one firewire bus so unless you have an additional firewire card.

  • Exporting DVCPRO HD 720p24 to MPEG4 how do I respect the ratio 16:9??

    Hi
I have to export a DVCPRO HD 720p24 project to an MPEG4, when I do it through compressor I play the QT after and it comes out as 4:3 and not the 16:9. Help????
    Guy

And if you don't like doing the math, use either of these utilites.
    http://andrew.hedges.name/experiments/aspect_ratio/
    or
    http://www.wideopendoors.net/design/aspectratiocalculator.html
Amd actually, it would be: 360x203 or 320x180

  • Advice Exporting 720P into 1080i

    Hello
One of my students has managed to start editing his HDV 1080i 50 footage in 720P 29.98FPS settings. It plays fine for him off the timeline in his Preview window but when trying to export it to HDV 1080i 50 for use in our studio play out system it doesn't work at all.
I tried exporting it to Apple Pro Res HQ too but still nothing.
Our play out system is essentially FCP 3 playing through an AJA HD-SDI card into a For-A vision mixer.
I've been using FCP's Export Conversion process.
    Should I attempt using Compressor?

You should copy all the content of the timeline he's been working in, and paste it into a timeline with the correct settings. Then you'll have to remove any scaling that was done from editing in a smaller frame size, and any timing alterations from the differing frame rate. Better to do this than to try and fix it on export. Right now you're going through two conversions. Neither one of them ideal.

  • DVCPRO HD 1080i/25p

I have just done a shoot with a Panasonic HVX200 on P2 using the 1080i/25 setting. I am also using Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 (can't upgrade as that is the version installed on the college computers). I can ingest the footage using the DVCPROHD 1080/50i codec but the footage comes in full picture without the black enveloped bars top and bottom. What does happen in that the picture has black bars on the left and right side of the frame. Is there a way to ingest (Import) the footage and get an anamorphic (16.9) frame with black bars top and bottom (I did it once but can't remember how)?
    Any help appreciated

That was the first version of FCP to support P2 imported footage, and it had issues. If you really need to work with this footage, you really need to upgrade. Or you really need to get THEM to upgrade.
There is no way to control the import...it comes in as is. But making FCP do the proper sequence settings is the issue, and PAL support for P2 was VERY lacking in version 5.0.4.

  • Problem exporting DVCPRO HD sequence

Anyone know what this means or how to fix it? Is my graphics card broke? Called apple and their level 1 tech cannot answer.
    http://www.shopjt3.com/bad/g5problemgraphicscard.png
    Thanks all
G5 Dual 2.5, 2.5GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL running FCS 2 with latest updates

Sounds like an incompatibility in the codec, notwithstanding acceptance by FCP.
Quick troubleshooting diagnostic: Navigate through some media directories and make sure that COLOR is seeing the things (quicktime movies) that it should be able to, and make a note of what it sees or doesn't recognize when you get to the DVCProHD QT.mov that you are trying to open. My guess is that it won't.
You may have to try to re-export the clip under FCP as a new independent movie. Then re-connect to the new Apple-rendered movie n either your FCP sequence, or the COLOR timeline, so that you don't have to go back and re-razor the whole thing. You did razor the movie in FCP, right?

  • Problems exporting DVCPro HD to TGA

    Hello everyone.
I've just finished editing a short film shot with the Panasonic P2, in HD. We cut it using DV resolution, and uprezed it to DVCProHD without (much) problems. We're about to grade it, and have the possibility of doing so on a DaVinci. I tried to give the colorist a QuickTime file, but she can't do anything with it. So she asked us to provide the film using TGA files.
Now I'm trying to export those.
First problem is the size: each TGA I make is 1440x1080 and looks squashed, and she would rather have them at 1920x1080. Can I do so directly from FCP? If not, I suppose that I'll need to do so using Photoshop. Painful but feasible.
Now the second problem is that each TGA looks much more contrasted than the original footage. Almost to the point that the blacks are way too black, and the whites completely burnt out. Where does that come from? Is it because of the TGA format? Something to do with RVB vs YUV? What can I do?
If someone has already been thru this process, could you give me a sets of rules to follow, that would save my day...
    Thanks, Pierre

You may find that the colourist would prefer DXF files - a well-known VFX interchange format. You can export these from FCP using the Cineon/DPX exporter:

  • DVCPRO HD 1080i 24p question

I know FCP does not support DVCPRO HD 1080 24p yet.
But I have played with Cinema Tools. I used the Nattress Cadance plug-in and was able to make a 24p file. It plays the right time in QuickTime but when I bring it into AE it is re-sized to 640x360. Not of much use. I have read the Cinema Tools docs front to back and have been searching for hours with no answers. We are shooting with HVX200 and need to supply a 1920x1080 24p file. Thanks

This thread on DVXuser might help you:

about half-way down, a workflow is suggested. The resize to 360 pix appears to be only for the QT proxies.
