Exporting to mpeg2 using Quicktime compression - render problems

Using FCP Studio 5.1 to export to DVD, FCP keeps asking for file to be rendered even after we have rendered complete movie. There are no green or red bars, so why does FCP not accept this as a full render?
We are exporting using mpeg2 Quicktime compression, not Compressor 2.
Is there a work-round?

  • How Long to Export 1080i Sequence using Quicktime?

I just received my first HD footage from a client to transfer to DVD using iDVD. I'm wondering what other people have experienced exporting 1080i footage using Quicktime (as a reference file - not self contained). My sequence is 1.5 hours long.
I first tried to export it using Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 and it said it would take over 40 hours! After reading some other posts, I looked at the sequence settings and changed something (field dominance perhaps?) from Upper to None. This has brought the time down to a mere 9 hours!
Is this time normal for exporting such a long movie? I want to know so I can budget time into future projects!
Thanks. Sorry to appear such a novice, but its my first foray into this type of footage!
    Jenny

This project was on a Dual 2 GHz Power PC G5 with 6 gigs of RAM. The whole thing finally finished -- but, wow, I was not prepared for a 9 hour export (which, in reality, turned out to be about 5 hours).
Thanks for any feedback you can provide on processing times.

  • Exporting to Flash using Quicktime pro

I'm trying to export a 43 min vid from FCP6 using quicktime conversion. I want to export to Flash. Its for web content, and its in widescreen.
Any help with size and converting to flash would help. I've never done web content before.
    Thanks!!
    tec24

First, some questions: 1) what's the purpose? 2) who's your intended audience? 3) has it got to be done quickly, as in a short deadline? 4) Why Flash? 5) Why 43 minutes (have you ever in your life watched a 43 minute streaming video on the internet on anything but the most powerful 'puter with the highest-speed, dedicated internet connection)? 6) Do you care that what people see you throw up on the internet ultimately reflects on how you yourself are perceived by those same people?
For what could be a quick disaster, or if this project is mainly for sh*ts and giggles, follow the advice given in the first reply, post it pronto and don't bother with the rest of THIS reply.
Or, if you're on a deadline, pay someone who TRULY knows what they're doing to do it for you -- and they might still balk (if they have any scruples) at a 43 minute web video unless you've got a really good reason to make folks wait for way longer than 43 minutes of stop-and-start Flash stuff.
Otherwise, if you're not in a hurry:
FIRST, procure a book on the subject, like Apple's "QuickTime for the Web" (available on line and at Borders, for sure).
THEN, with some reading under your belt, be prepared to start experimenting with combinations of smaller movie dimensions and FPS rates (generally, half of what the original is); then on to varying types of video compression (Sorenson or Sorenson3 have historically given some of the best results, with H.264, the newest and more difficult to configure giving the truest quality, but not discounting the various MPEG settings; and last, but certainly not least, playing with your audio compressions to see what you're willing to lose in order to (hopefully) gain an internet audience. Like it or not, it depends on YOUR vid's content and audio as to how to make it small enough to be seen in its best internet presence.
OR, You might try some of Compressor's export settings -- and be totally satisfied. It's all relative to the work you've created and how long you're willing to work at what you're willing to sacrifice to still pull off a good illusion of your original video at a fraction of its original size.
I wish it weren't so, but there's no quick and easy answer to your question if you're serious at all about the end result. You have to consider all the angles I've posed (and then some) to get good results that'll show YOU in your best light.

  • Can't export to mpeg2 in quicktime anymore

I am using Final Cut Pro 5.04 and Quicktime 7.1.3. I captured some video recently and went to export using Quicktime conversion like I always do and the mpeg2 option was not available. has this been removed and am I forced to use compressor now? Can someone tell me why this is a good thing?
Also, is FCP 5.1 available for power PCs, or is that just an Intel Mac version?
    Thanks

    is 5.1 available for PPCs?<<</div>
Yes. FCP 5.1 (universal version) is a paid up/crossgrade. See http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade for details.

  • Photo slideshows exported to 1080p using Quicktime

I'm looking to export a High Definition quicktime file of my photos. I'm testing now so when blu-ray or HD-DVD discs become available, I can start archiving my thousands of digital photos.
While the overal look of what I've done isn't terrible, it's still not quite as clear as when my pictures play standard slideshow programs.
Another issue that I think is affecting the detail, is that the aspect ratio is slightly skewed which appears to be twisting my image thereby causing a blurry image.
Am I missing something, or is there a simple solution? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

QuickTime Pro isn't licensed to export audio from MPEG 1 or 2 files.
Use MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert your .mpg to QuickTime ( or iPod) formats.

  • Exporting in FCPX using quicktime compressor I get this error.

what is this error I am going to show you guys a screen capture.
I am using the share/export using compressor settings.

This error generally means that there's something on your timeline that FCPX doesn't like such as a corrupt clip, unusual codec, a DRM-protected audio track, CMYK image, etc.
    From Crash Analyzer:
    -50 (QuickTime)
This error occurs when there is corrupt or invalid media in your timeline. Check that the codec used by the file is recommended for use in your editing application.
    Suggested Actions
If you are using Final Cut Pro 7 and your sequence codec is set to a long-GOP codec such as HDV, H.264, XDCAM, AVCHD or MPEG-2, set your sequence codec to ProRes.
For best results, convert all long-GOP media to ProRes.
Make sure all images are RGB, not CMYK.
Ensure all images are less than 4000 pixels in width and height.
Use Corrupt Clip Finder to locate the corrupt clip.
After the corrupt file is located, use QT Repair or Media Salvage to fix it.
Make sure your files do not have Digital Rights Management (DRM) that prevent them being played outside of their intended application. Some files purchased from the iTunes Store will have DRM.
Make sure you are using AIFF or WAV audio files.
This can sometimes be caused by third-party codecs. Use System Toolkit to temporarily disable them.

  • Final Cut Pro 4:  Problems exporting video using QuickTime conversion

just recently updated my Mac to version 10.4.11 -
Ever since, Final Cut Pro won't let me Export my video using QuickTime Conversion.
Its starts exporting, then freezes at 79%. A general error message pops up.
I know its not a space issue, because I have 20GB left and the video i'm exporting is only 2 GB.
I installed all the software updates.
Can anyone help? Do I need a new version of Final Cut?

    1) this is the final cut express forum not the pro.
    2) 10.4.6 is not the latest, try updating to 10.4.11
    3) after any system update you must run disk utility to repair permissions or errors that may not have been addressed during the upgrade process.
    4) have you tried exporting as a reference movie then playing it in qtpro, if ok then export.
    5) what are you trying to export too?

  • File capure and export to DVD render problems

    So.....
I do quite a few simple videos every week that require to be imported from minidv and then slightly cut, some transitions added and then exported to MPEG-2 to go to dvd via DVDsp.
My problem is that any video that I import from tape, needs some kind of rendering that sometimes messes things up.
Sometimes it will need to render audio which gives me some absurd time estimate like 58hours or something so I always cancel it right after it starts but the audio gets messed. Either the right track is out of phase from the left, presumebally just a couple ms off, or one channel gets out of sync by 10-30 minutes. I have been told before to empty the render files and that works until it asks me to rerender and then its back to the same thing.
    Please Help

    PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5Ghz 2Gigs Ram 1.8TB   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   FCP 5

Ok so I tried it this weekend. Everything is fine and synced after the initial log and capture using the same settings i have been. Once I add transitions and need to export as MPEG2 it wants to render the video, understandable, then it wants to render the audio for something like 57hours so i always cancel that. At that point, the right track is, i think, just slightly behind of the left track causing a phase cancelation kind of sound. So I turn down one track and im fine since it was recorded in mono only.
Then after I export my compressed H.264 verion for the web is where it places audio from about halfway through over the audio on the left track at the beginning. I have a copy of the video on my website for you to look at. http://cpctecharts.com/video/right.mov <-the correct one. and the bad one. <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://cpctecharts.com/video/bad.mov
    Hope this helps more.
    Thanks so much guys

  • Exporting Video to Desktop using Quicktime

I am having problems with iMovie's YouTube uploader (get a message saying I can't upload movies larger than 10 minutes to YT)  so YouTube advised me to use theirs. My video is 10 1/2 minutes.
Should I use Export Movie or Export using Quicktime?
Please let me know if these QT settings are correct to export my movie. This particular movie is a 16:9 Widescreen movie.
Also how do I get a movie that is exported usin QT and then uploaded to YT to default to high definition? My videos never seem to be HD.

I think the Folks @ YouTube can help you with this:

How to ensure proper Audio/Video sync through a QuickTime conversion
MOV/MP4 files exported from programs such as iMovie, Final Cut Pro, and QuickTime Pro have certain elements that are not handled well by YouTube transcoding. In order to ensure optimal upload quality--and specifically that the Audio and Video of the file remain in sync--use the encoding settings outlined below.
    Export your video using QuickTime
In iMovie, select Share > Export Using QuickTime
In Finalcut Pro, select File > Export > Using Quicktime Conversion >Options
In QuickTime Pro, select File > Export > Export: Movie to QuickTime Movie > Options
    Alter your video encoding
Enter a name for your file, and select Movie to QuickTime Movie from the Export dropdown.
Click Options and make the following changes to Video settings:
    Compression Type: H.264
    Frame Rate: 30 is preferred. 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97 are also acceptable.
    Data Rate: Automatic
    Key Frames: Automatic
    Frame Reordering: Unchecked
Make the following changes to Audio or Sound settings:
    Format: AAC
Click Show advanced settings and choose Constant Bit Rateas encoding strategy.
Select Size and choose the original size of the video.
The section Prepare for Internet Streaming must be set to Fast Start.
Save your video, and then upload the resulting file to YouTube

  • Imovie output using quicktime problem

I need to place a .mov file that I created with imovie08 on a web page. I exported the move using quicktime. After posting on the webpage all of my PC friends couldn't view the movie. Some could hear the sound but not view the video. I told them that they needed to install quicktime, but they are still having the problem. Is there a better format in which to share the movie which has to be posted on a webpage? Is there an easy solution for these folks - most aren't very computer savvy.
    Thanks
    Steve

Thanks for your reply. Actually I can't post a link - the subject matter is somewhat confidential - it is a police training video for reserve recruits in how to write traffic citations. The content probably isn't all that confidential but it would be improper for it to get out into the web. The problem you mentioned is what I thought it would be. I can borrow a PC and see what results I get with it.
The real problem is that 99.5% of the people who are suppose to be watching it are probably running PCs.

  • No Audio when I export using quicktime conversion

    Hi,
This problem has just started. In my time line my movie places with both audio and video. When I try to export it using quicktime conversion I get a file with video but no audio. If I go to the audio settings button and click preview, I hear nothing. I have exported using the exact same settings many times before without problems.
If I export the file using quicktime movie, I get both audio and video.
This is driving me crazy, Can anyone help? Thanks!

I got no audio on the DVD when I exported from FCE using the Quicktime Movie setting. I finally determined it was because my audio was at 44.1k Hz. I upsampled to 48k and there was sound on the final DVD. This is not normally a problem when input comes from a camera, but if you are doing a DVD of a Keynote presentation and adding separate sound to it from a CD, this becomes a problem.
Certainly no more than a little annoying that there's nothing said during the FCE export that this audio won't be exported. It's just not there.

  • Quicktime Export, Hyperlinks Only Option, What's The Problem?

Upon exporting the slideshow using QuickTime option (Hyperlinks only, CD-ROM Movie), the slideshow fails to initialize, the hyperlinks seem to function quite well but the slideshow still progresses everytime the user clicks on other parts of the screen. Doesn't "hyperlinks only" mean advancing to the desired page on a designated "hyperlinked" link only?
What seems to be the problem here?

HMMM....the links seem to be working using "hyperlinks only" mode with "apple intermediate codec" but the thing is, it fails to show the linked slide when it's clicked on the remaining slides! aaargh!

  • Exporting using Quicktime

I'm storing imovie events in external hard drive. When attempting to "export a project using Quicktime", a message comes up saying it can't find my imovie event. Can't figure out how to tell it where the events are stored. It doesn't ask or have a pop up menu. I assume it's only looking in my "movie" fldr on the computer's main drive. HELP.

Hi.. When the event was created in imovie it asked where? Chose the external drive. All clips were captured to that folder and all is well... until I went to export the movie "Using Quicktime". If I just click "Export Movie" I'm ok. JW

  • Can´t export to Mpeg2

I did an Archive & Install of OSX in order to get the Quicktime 7.2 version back (since 7.3 & 7.4 messed up my FCP). Now I can´t find the option Mpeg2 in the Format list when I try to Export a sequence using Quicktime Conversion in FCP. I also noticed that my Compressor doesn´t work.
Any ideas how I could get both compressor working again and getting the option to export to a mpeg2 file back? I wouldn´t like to reinstall FCP. Maybe just extract and install some files from the FCP install disc using Pacifist?

Before I go ahead and do the clean install I´d like to try to install just missing files. I already tried to drop the QuikcTimeMpeg2.component file into my Quicktime folder but that didn´t help. Any other ideas. Is there something I could do with the compressor.pkg on my FCP install disc? Could I reinstall only the compressor?

  • Problem Exporting for Web files created in FCE using Quicktime

I have been using FCE 4.01 on Mac OSX 10.7.5 with Quicktime 10.1 (501.29).
I convert my footage in Mpeg Streamclip (GREAT free program) and set the files to the Apple Intermediate Codec.  This makes them work really well in my timeline and I don't have rendering issues or problems.
So, my problem comes when I File/Export/Quictime Movie.
The original file plays fine, but they're 2-3 gbs each, so I put them into Quicktime to convert them to a webfriendly size, but every single time they come out as an audio only file.  GRRRR!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Maybe I'm missing something stupid.
Thanks so much for your help.
    Sincerely,
    Steve

Why not bring the exported AIC file  back into MPEG Streamclip instead of QTX? You'll have a lot more control.
Compress the file to H.264 and restrict the data rate according to the resolution you're working with and to something consistent with the guidelines of the Web Service (say, You Tube) you're uploading to, (For example, something like 6 Mb per second would be about right for a 720P file.)
Or use Quicktime Conversion from FCE.
    Good luck.
