Exports and imports while SAP is up
As a SAP Basis of many SAP ABAP instances, we sometimes get a request to export a Z table (not dependant on SAP tables) in order to protect it from possible unwanted changes due to a new program. The new program has been tested in QA, but in order to protect the data further, the client requests an export. Keep in mind that the table is not used for generic key or single record buffers. Regarding this activity, I have questions:
Q: Is it alright to do the export while the system is running, if we can be sure that noone is modifying the data?
My Answer: As a Basis I would say yes, but I would to know your opinions.
Q: In case of a problem can we import the data back?
My Answer: As a Basis I would say yes, if it is a single table with no dependancies on other tables, but again I would like your opinions?
Q: Can we do it while the instance is up?
My Answer:: In this case, I would say no, since an import means a truncate and we cannot really determine the impacts. The safe thing would be to do it while SAP is down, but I would like to know your opinions.
Thanks in advance!
> Q: Is it alright to do the export while the system is running, if we can be sure that noone is modifying the data?
> My Answer: As a Basis I would say yes, but I would to know your opinions.
Depends on what you want to archieve with the export.
By using the exp/expdb tool of Oracle for just one table you will get a consistent view of the data in any case (for more tables in the export you'd use the consistent=y option).
So, yes, that might be "ok".
> Q: In case of a problem can we import the data back?
> My Answer: As a Basis I would say yes, if it is a single table with no dependancies on other tables, but again I would like your opinions?
Again: what do you do with that data?
Usually a "single table with no dependencies" is actually either crap (unused) or it does have dependencies, although not defined by foreign keys.
Think about it: you don't put data in there for nothing. You do want to do something with it.
Your programs depend on the data.
In fact that's why you want to save the table in the first place.
So there are dependencies.
And once you get the single table back in the saved version, you better know what to do with that data.

> My Answer:: In this case, I would say no, since an import means a truncate and we cannot really determine the impacts. The safe thing would be to do it while SAP is down, but I would like to know your opinions.
WHAT?
Why does an import mean a truncate to you?
Why can't you determine the impacts?
Honestly: if you don't know the impacts, you don't know the dependencies of that table !
Why do you pursue the export/import approach at all?
Why do you want to leave the database?
You need a copy of the table.
No problem. Simply copy the table.
There are several options to do that, e.g. *create table <table_copy> as select * from <table_orig>*
That copied table can be backed up, indexed, checked as a reference...
When you need to switch back to the original table, you don't need to re-import the table.
Simply rename the original table and the copied table and you're done.
All that can be done online - without shutting down anything.

Exporting and importing packages SAP inst server
Hello,
Background: we plan to migrate our current installation server to a newer hardware; we have a wide range of different packages. I could recreate them manually, but that would take a (long) while.
i wonder if there is a chance to export installation packages from one server and then import them into an other. I looked through the offical docu and found no note regarding this.
Is there a special directory within the sap installtion server which can simply be copied to the new server?
Best regards
A.DHi Andre
No, you can not simply copy some folders.
The official way to do a system copy, i.e, export from the souce system, and then import it on the new system.
Then you will get the same version, patch level with the old system in the new one.
So you don't need to repeat applying all the packages.
The system copy guide can be found from
http://service.sap.com/instguides
- then select netweaver for example,
- expanding the "Installation - SAP NetWeaver Systems"
- there you should be able to find the sytem copy guide.
Best regards,

Deployment : Exporting and importing a ABAP code to other SAP Server
Hello Expert,
I am very new to SAP ABAP. My query is , If we write a code in user exit on one SAP server and if we need to deploy the same on other SAP server who are not tightly coupled with each other , How should we do??
Is there any way to export and import the code?? How do we deliver the code if anyone wants that code? Is there any way to deliver the code other than manual copy and paste??
Any idea??
Thanks,
PrashantHi,

Language Problem while exporting and importing data
hi,
I have Oracle version 8.1.7.0.0 installed on one server and 9.2.0.1.0 installed on new server.
I'm copying and pasting my version info from SQL*Plus:
SQL*Plus: Release 8.1.7.0.0 - Production on Mon Aug 22 10:46:31 2005
(c) Copyright 2000 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production on Mon Aug 22 12:30:06 2005

JServer Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production
SQL>
I created new user on my new server from enterprise manager.
Exported user from the old server and imported in the new server.
i.e: from Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.0.0, I did
c:\>exp system/manager file=abc.dmp owner=abc
Then on the new server Release 9.2.0.1.0, I did
c:\>imp system/manager file=abc.dmp fromuser=abc touser=abc
I'm using Arabic Language on my both servers. NLS_LANG parameter on both the servers is AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252.
On both the servers I'm able to insert and select data in arabic.
However, after I export the data from old server to the new server, the arabic data comes in question marks.
If I create new table and insert arabic data on new server's user abc it is displaying well. Only the data which I exported and imported is not showing arabic.
On both old and new servers operating system is Windows XP.
I'm stuck with this problem. Anybody having any idea about how to solve this problem please help.
Thank you all in advance.
RegardsLet me be clear here. Storing Arabic data in a WE8MSWIN1252 database is not supported by Oracle and will lead to problems. You are incorrectly using the NLS_LANG to prevent proper conversion and your data appears to be okay when you use utilties like SQL*PLUS to view your data. When you write applications that don't rely on the NLS_LANG like JDBC thin driver for instance you will realize your data is in fact invalid. To learn more about the NLS_LANG you can take a look at this FAQ: http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/globalization/htdocs/nls_lang%20faq.htm
To migrate your database to a proper character set you can refer to this paper:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/globalization/pdf/mwp.pdf
But please do not ask for help in supporting your current configuration in this forum. -
Exporting and Importing of Schema
The Export and Import of Schema is not working consistently in SP4.
When I create a new repository from the schema, all the subtables get created. The main table is has only one field in it. It reads Category.
The other fields in the main table are missing and are not imported during the Import Schema operation.
Has anyone encountered the same issue?
If so, please let me know how you overcame this errorneous behaviour?Hi Adhappan
I have tried importing without success. The import is not consistent. The same schema creates different sets of tables & fields each time. Sometimes if you reimport some more tables which were not set up the first time gets selected for import.
I did a simple exercise to test the import / export functionality.
1. I unarchived a repository from standard content provided by SAP
2. I exported the schema
3. I tried importing the schema without any modifications to schema
4. The results were highly inconsistent.

Internal table export and import in ECC 5.0 version
Hi friends,
I am trying to export and import internal table from one program to other program.
The below export and import commands are not working when I run the program in background (using SUBMIT zxxxx via JOB name NUMBER number ..)
EXPORT ITAB TO MEMORY id 'ZMATERIAL_CREATE'.
IMPORT ItAB FROM MEMORY ID 'ZMATERIAL_CREATE'.
Normally it should work. Since Its not working I am trying with another alternative..
i.e EXPORT (ptab) INTERNAL TABLE itab.
My sap version is ECC 5.0 .
For your information, here I am forwarding sap help. Pls have a look and explain how to declare ptab internal table.
+Extract from SAP help+
In the dynamic case the parameter list is specified in an index table ptab with two columns. These columns can have any name and have to be of the type "character". In the first column of ptab, you have to specify the names of the parameters and in the second column the data objects. If the second column is initial, then the name of the parameter in the first column has to match the name of a data object. The data object is then stored under its name in the cluster. If the first column of ptab is initial, an uncatchable exception will be raised.
Outside of classes you can also use a single-column internal table for parameter_list for the dynamic form. In doing so, all data objects are implicitly stored under their name in the data cluster.
My internal table having around 45 columns.
pls help me.
Thanks in advance
raghunathThe export/import should work the way you are using it. Just make sure you are using same memory id and make sure its unique - meaning u are using it only for this itab purpose and not overwriting it with other values. Check itab is not initial before you export in program 1 - then import it in prog2 with same memory id...also check case, I am not sure if its case sensitive...
Here is how you use the second variant...
Two fields with two different identifications "P1" and "P2" with the dynamic variant of the cluster definition are written to the ABAP Memory. After execution of the statement IMPORT, the contents of the fields text1 and text2 are interchanged.
TYPES:
BEGIN OF tab_type,
para TYPE string,
dobj TYPE string,
END OF tab_type.
DATA:
id TYPE c LENGTH 10 VALUE 'TEXTS',
text1 TYPE string VALUE `IKE`,
text2 TYPE string VALUE `TINA`,
line TYPE tab_type,
itab TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF tab_type.
line-para = 'P1'.
line-dobj = 'TEXT1'.
APPEND line TO itab.
line-para = 'P2'.
line-dobj = 'TEXT2'.
APPEND line TO itab.
EXPORT (itab) TO MEMORY ID id.
IMPORT p1 = text2
p2 = text1 FROM MEMORY ID id. -
Export and Import of Configuration Data
Hi All,
I have created a number of custom properties, structures, groups, renderers, layout sets etc and would like to move them from Dev to Test system.
I have found the following in the help doco:
"Export and Import of Configuration Data"
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/e1/029c414c79b25fe10000000a1550b0/content.htm
However I am unable to see its functionality in our portal systems (namely the Actions->Export and Actions->Import functions).
Our version of Portal is: 6.0.9.6.0
KM: 6.0.9.3.0 (NW04 SPS09 Patch3)
Therefore we should be able to see it? no?
Are there any special settings to see these buttons?
Cheers,
VicThanks for your replies.
OK, so in otherwords, it is not available in SP09 and only in SP12+.
So, to "transport" this information I will have to manually reapply thes settings in the Test system!

Releases of export and import systems have to be identical
hi all,
we want PRD data on DEV , PRD client has been exported successfully. data ( 2 requests from cofile & data) from PRD copied to DEV in cofile and data.
now when we import these requests in DEV client through STMS , it say that "Releases of export and import systems have to be identical"
while oracle patch, kernel patch and java version all are same on both systems.
plz guide

KhanFriends,
We also faced same issue while restoring USER Master backup in one of our system. Even after applying OSS Note 1291394 it didn't work for us. Though the permanent solution is to apply this OSS Note only.
As a teporary workaround we can add the TR through OS command using Uncoditional Mode "Overwrite Original" and import also using Uncoditional Mode "Overwrite Original". Below are the commands.
To Add in buffer:
tp addtobuffer <TR> SID Client=<> U012 pf=<>
To Import in system:
tp import <TR> SID U012 pf=<>

Export and Import of Portal Users (UME database only)
Hi
What is the most efficient way to export all Portal user that are stored in Portal UME database so that it can be imported to another Portal installation and be used..
Thanks in Advance
AnandaHi,
SAP User Administration is the standard way to export and import users in the portal. Using the export functionality, all the user information will get exported, including the roles and groups assigned:
[User]
uid=userid
last_name=Lastname
first_name=Tobias
language=en
accessibility=0
role=pcd:portal_content/com.sap.portal.xxx;
group=Administrators;
If you only want to export the user data without the roles and groups, you'll have to delete these lines.

Export and import of 3 Gb table
Dear ,
I have table with more than 3 million records, i need to export this table and import into a different database . can you please help me with the export and import options options so that i can speed up the process...
for you information
this table hase 3 Fk, 2 Indexs
i would appreciate your help in this regard
thanksOne way to speed up the exp/imp process is to use DIRECT=Y option. Also increase the size of BUFFER parameter.
While importing large amount of data it is better to drop relational constraints and indexes and recreate them after import. -

I have two sun system system both are having oracle 10 g
1 is prod database and another is test database
both the systems having same schema ,I want to make my test database upto date with production database before i used to use the complete export of prod database 1 schema and simply import it into test database but this process is taking very long time as the export dump file size is alomost 2 GB and while importing at the test database the import process is taking almost 5 to 6 hours ,
the test database schema having 10 days old old records when compare to production database.
so I just want to know is there any parameter in IMPORT so that the import process will take only changes information from export dumpfile while importing?
I am using tradition export and import methodthanks for your reply,
But right now I don'thave datapump export dump file and my production database is at remote place ,
again to take datapump export and copy the dump from netwrok takes again very long time network will also get busy to get 2 gb of file
right now at my place where test db is located I have only tradition export dump file
any more sujjestion in that -

thanks in advancetablespace TESTTBS doesn't exist in the database where your are importing.
Either create tablespace in target database or
use show=y option while importing to get table structure and create manually in target database then import and give ignore=y. -
Export and import change document for user master data
Dear Gurus,
I have two queries on change document for user master data:
1. Are there any approaches to export and import change document for user master data?
We often do system copy from PRD to QAS for UAT and troubleshooting. Before system copy we export the user master data from QAS and then import after the copy process. We would like to keep the change document for user master data on QAS from being refreshed from PRD for security reason.
2. Change document for Role change in QAS
When the role is created or modified in DEV and then transported to QAS, the role change document doen't include this change log. The role change document in QAS only records those role changes directly made in QAS.
Could you advise this is by SAP design or are there any approaches to record this transported role change in the role change document in QAS?
Thanks
YBY1. Perhaps you want to consider a system copy to a "virtual system" for UAT?
2. Changes in QAS (as with PROD as well) will give you the delta. They should ideally be clean... You need to check the source system.
Another option is to generate the profiles in the target system. But for that your config has to be sqeaky clean and in sync, including very well maintained and sync'ed Su24 data.
Cheers,

Is it possible to export and import the roles and users tables?
Hi,
is there any possibility to export and import the role and user definitions?
We have a SAP MDM repository with a lot of roles and users and also with a lot of changes.
And now I'm searching for a fast and efficient way of managing the roles and users.
Thanks and Regards, MelanieHi Melanie,
There is no export/import functionality for roles and users. The only way to manage these in an automated way would be to write a program that uses the Java or ABAP APIs. Both APIs expose functionality to create, update and delete roles and users.
Hope this helps,
Richard
