Exposing sub site list on parent site (SPO 2010)

2 site collections configured the same, one is a team site one a public site. In the team site I can expose lists from a sub site on a parent site page via a custom data view web part. The exact same technique doesn't work on the public site and throws the
"list doesn't exist" error. The web part is configured correctly because it works if I insert it on a sub site page. It's not a permissions issue - the source list can be accessed anonymously on the sub site.
Any ideas?

I was able to get the sub site list web part to show up on a parent site page - but then when I went to add the exact same web part to a different  zone on the same page: BAM! List not found.
It also started randomly adding chunks of content from list items right in the web part code.....
I tried but can't find any justification for any of this behavior, so as usual when I work with Sharepoint I find myself agreeing with the people who say it's a mind numbingly badly made product.

  • Looking for a way to add a footer navigation with sub-pages listed underneath parent pages?

The navigation widgets work great for mast navigation and sidebar navigation, but no so good for footer navigation.
Is it possible to display main pages horizontally and have any sub-pages listed underneath? The only option I appear to have is to use the horizontal widget and make do with hover triggered drop downs - not great for footer navigation.
If anyone knows how to do this or can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. I\m just starting out with Muse, think it might make a great wireframing tool.

    Hi
You can create a manual menu as footer navigation, where you can add the sub menu items as you want to show up with mouse action.

  • Remove all entries in sub csv list from parent csv list?

I have two csv files, one is a complete (parent) list, the other is a sub list. I want to remove all sub-list entires from the parent list. Without manually removing each entry from the parent list one at a time, is there an effecient way to remove all sub list entries from parent list in one simple effort?
Each list contains email addresses, I want to exclude the sub list from the parent list for the next mailing as they have already completed an action.
    Example:
    Parent list (csv1) has A, B, C, D, E
    Sub list (csv2) has B, D
How can I remove B & D from Parent list in a concise action?
    Thanks!

    Hi smashart,
Ian has given you a method that requires manual removal of the unwanted values from the Parent list. My preference would be for a method that constructs a new sub list that includes only the items wanted, but does not affect the original parent list data.
Like Ian's method, this requires opening both the parent list and the existing sub list of addreses not wanted as separate tables in the same Numbers document.
    Here's an example:
    Two formulas are required.
    Parent::C2, and filled down: =IF(COUNTIF('Sub 1 (have acted)' :: $A,B2)>0,"",MAX($C$1:C1)+1)
This creates the index shown in column C of Parent. This column may be hidden.
    Sub 2::A2, and filled down: =IF(ROW()-1>MAX(Parent :: $C),"",LOOKUP(ROW()-1,Parent :: $C,Parent :: $B))
This uses LOOKUP to copy the indexed addresses to Sub 2.
(Note: Close examination of the addresses in Sub 1 will show a repeated address. As can be seen, this does not affect its removal from the list in Sub 2.

    Barry

  • Call Parent Site collection webpart in to child site collection

    Dear All,
Before we did the same practice with 2010, to display the customer list from parent site collection in to child site, but in 2013 i did not find the option in the site setting.
I did not find how can i call the parent site collection webpart (custom document library) in to child site collection
If any one know please inform me
Make sure i am discussing about SP 2013
    Regards
    Rashid Imran Bilgrami

I found an answer for it
First open the webpart in to sharepoint designer (Make sure the webpart is mark as Server Render in the webpart property)
Then you will see the List View Web Part tab
Select Web Part  Tab under it
Then Select to site gallery or save to file
I have a detail discussion here related to it

  • Aggregate list data from multiple subsites to parent site

I am working on implementing a project management site. I simply have a site collection with multiple subsites (each subsite is a unique project) that all have the same list named "Project Status" which includes project health and comments.
I want to rollup only the most recently added item from the Project Status list from each subsite into the site collection parent site main page.
    For example:
    Project Portfolio Status
    Project 1 - Green - <comments>
    Project 2 - Yellow - <comments>
    Project 3 - Red - <comments>
Can this be done using OOB tools? I know Bamboo Solutions has a product that does something like this, but it's $1000.

You can use Content Search Web Part in SharePoint 2013. There are many ways you can use CSWP and its query filters, you can view them here.
A query such as below -
    path:"https://YourSiteCollection/SubSite*" ListID:xxxxxx-9511-4746-xxxx-E12BC81ECCA9 ListID:5xxxxC1B4-EE4D-4xxxx-BC5B-032EB7D03E09 ListID:xxxxE18-xxxx-4C3C-xxxx-AC14EFBB2A12 -Filename:AllItems.aspx
will give the result that will look like the image below.
Srini Sistla Twitter: @srinisistla Blog: http://blog.srinisistla.com
Thank you. I have been working on my query and have some good results but I need to add some more parameters to my query in order to block/filter the following two items that show up in the results:
    Item 1 - .../Add Status Report.aspx
    Item 2 - .../AllItems.aspx
*Note: I also need to block/filter all items in the list EXCEPT for the 1 most recent item
    My current query is:
    path:"<subsite url>" ListID:<list id> -Filename:<view name>.aspx
Where can I find/read about other parameters that I can use to block out the other items? Thanks!

  • Create list item in parent site when list item is created in child site?

SharePoint online - Can I create a list item in a parent site when a new list item is created in child site? Possible with workflows?

    Hi Shafaqat,
From your description, my understanding is that you want to create a list item in the parent site when a new item is created in the subsite via workflow.
Per my knowledge, there is no OOTB workflow action to achieve your requirement. I suggest you develop your own workflow activity to do it, or you can try to find a third party workflow solution to do it.
Here is an article about how to create a custom workflow activity, you can take a look at:

  • Show Promoted Links ListView on Parent Site

I've got a Parent Team Web Site with a Sub-Community Site.
Now I want to show the promoted Links listviewwebpart form the Categories (Sub-Community Site) on the Homepage of my Parent Site.
Is there a way to achieve this?

    Hi Stefan,
You can follow these steps to achieve this goal,
1.Go to Sub-Community site promoted links list from SharePoint Designer.
2.Then replace the WebId value in list view web part in Tiles.aspx page with the actual value got by powershell per the following article.
3.Then save the page, then put the cursor in web part and save the web part to the site gallery.
4.Then the promoted webpart can be inserted in parent team web site.

  • Best Way to Sync Lists Across Multiple Site Collections?

A quick query I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with...
Within our university intranet I am assigning each department a team site within its own Site Collection. So that departments can associate Document Library files with a set list of academic courses, I created a custom dropdown field and deployed it as a Feature. While this worked within SharePoint, when you attempted to set the document properties within the Microsoft Word environment the custom fields were rendered as empty text boxes (meaning that staff are no longer restricted in when information they can enter).
To get around this I'm considering going back-to-basics and creating a Custom List, populating it with the titles of our academic courses, and then assigning it to a Document Library via a Lookup Field. I know that Microsoft Word will then correctly display the metadata dropdown.
As I am using multiple Site Collections, I'm unsure of the "best" way to proceed.
I've already written a Console Application which can create a Custom List within a targetted site and populate it with the contents of an XML file - but I would need to run this every time I created a new Site Collection and what would I do when I wanted to update the contents of all the lists?
Other than modifying my Console Application to loop through all instances of the Custom List within Site Collections and sync it to the contents of the XML file, is there another (better) option that I am over-looking?
Its such a shame I can't create cross-collection Lookup Fields within all of the Site Collections that point to a single top-level list.
    Many thanks.

My instinctive questions drifts towards why you have different site collections.  If all the sites were sub sites within the same site collection, a global field would solve the issue quite nicely.
If you have legitimate reasons for keeping the sites seperated into separate site collections, I would look at using an Event Handler to trigger updates to reference values in each site collection, be they global fields or lists.  Then if you wish to update the values, you only need to update the trigger list to propagate the updates across your site sollections to all your sites in question.
I trust that answers your question...
    Thanks

  • Web part created on a subsite for a sharepoint list in another site using sharepoint designer, to show only the subsite's reports. Connection dropping off and showing all the reports

I crated web parts in the sub-sites (we have about 10 subsites) using sharepoint designer from a main list in another site.  Then used web part to show only the  ubsite's reports - using connection to the main list.  Problem is, the connection
is dropping off and showing all the reports on the main list that are confidential.  this has happened 3 time lately.  Could someone explain why it happens some times?  I had to fix it by adding the web part again and connecting it
    Thanks, Subathy.

    Hi George,
If you want to use a top level site "department" list column in all sub-sites, you can go to top level site and create a
lookup type "Site column" to look up the value from the department list, then all sub-sites can use this lookup type site column created in top level site.

  • I want to break inheritence and create unique permissions in a Project Server 2010 project site list/library.

Some Project Managers want to restrict permissions on certain lists or libraries in their Project Server 2010 project site. However, when I have done this for them, by breaking inheritence to the parent site and then removing/adding users with unique
sharepoint permissions, it seems that when the project schedule is published, some of the newly created permissions are lost.
I have tried creating a SharePoint group at the project site level and then applied it with specific permissions (eg. Contribute) to the list/library and this seems to work better but I haven't been able to confirm yet if this will work in the
    longer term.
Does anyone know what is the best method to break inheritence and set up unique permissions on a list in a Project Server 2010 project site that will not be lost when the project schedule is published?
    Thanks
    Peter

    Thanks Lynda
I am aware that I can disengage the entire permissions sychronisation using that setting but that is not what I want to do.  I just want to be able to break the inherited permissions on individual document libraries or lists on specific Project Sites
so that I can restrict access to nominated people.
My issue is that when I do this, I find that some of the amended permissions disappear from time to time.  It seems to be related to when the schedule is published.  They
don't revert to the inherited permissions, just some of the people who I have given direct access to no longer have access.
Im just trying to find out the best way to manage setting non-automated permissions on a single list or library in a Project Server project sites so the changes stick.

  • Populate Lookup Lists from Different Site Collection

    Hi,
    we are using O365 environment
We have 2 Site Collections: Site Collection 1 has Sub sites and has lookup Columns in Lists..
This Subsite is created as a Site Collection 2 in O365 ..In Site Coll Lists we have Lists which has Lookup columns referring to Site Coll 1
How do I bring the content over to Site coll 2 with Lookup columns without having the Lists moved from Site Coll1
    Thanks

This can't be done out of the box.  It would require a custom solution or a 3rd party plugin (not sure if one exists or not).
