Exposure of BI Content/Generic DataSources in Data Services XI 3.x
We were told by SAP Business Objects personnel back in May 2009 that SAP DataSources (standard content and generic) would be exposed in SAP Business Objects Data Services XI 3.2. We have recently upgraded Data Services, in a sandbox environment, to XI 3.2 and found that this isn't there.
After pinging some others that we know at SAP, we're now hearing that this won't be available until SP4. Is this correct? Right now, the unrestricted shipment version is SP0 and we're wondering if it truly is SP4 or SP0 FP4 when then is scheduled to be in unrestricted shipment and when these are scheduled to be released for general customer consumption. Can anyone from SAP monitoring this forum comment?

BW uses the business content extractors. In 4.0 Data Services will also use the Business Content extractors.
This does not mean BW customers have to start using Data Services; SAP is not replacing the connectivity between ECC and BW. Data Services is added as an option to the landscape and adds the option of accessing other 3rd party sources u2013 one single tool to extract data.
With Data Services, you have the possibility to consolidate extraction rules into one platform. You can also make sure you can load correct and clean data into target application with the data quality components of Data Services.
You just need to know the name of the extractor and connect. No ABAP programs are generated, making it easier to deploy and maintain.
Since you originally posted your question almost two years ago you might be aware of this but I think people visiting this forum in the future may find very useful information on the blog by Tammy Powlas.

Regarding the generic datasource fields
Hi Masters,
I've created one generic datasource(Master data source), which contains exactly 8 fields. Afterwards that datasource is replicated in BW. According to that datasource, fields are created in RSA1. But those fields name and lengths are not name in BW.Is it problem or not? And another one thing is those fields are not belongs to one Master data source. Is it ok?

In BW side you have to map the fields with infoobject in transfer structure. The definition of (Properties) infoobjects which you are mapping must be in sync with the fields you are mapping.

Cannot create R3TR OSOA Version from a Generic Datasource
Hello my friends,
I need your help, please,
I have created a Generic Datasource, this generic datasource extracts data from a View in ECC, when I create the datasource and save it(RSO2 transaction), the system(ECC) only show me the R3TR OSOD object available to transport it, I need see the R3TR OSOA object to transport de datasource from Dev to QA system. So when I transport the datasource, i can't find the active version in QA System.
I think that this could be an authorizations issue, but i am not very sure.
This are the steps that I am executing:
1.- Assign the datasource to an Object Directory.
2.-The Object generated is OSOD(Delivery version) type.

Generic datasource by function module to fetch data from multiple tables?
I'm writing a function module to fetch price, for generic datasource.
At first, extract test is OK. But InfoPackage never stop when loading data to PSA in BW.
And I find the example codes:

Error while extracting data from Generic datasource
Hello Gurus,
I have encountered an error "Errors in source system" with status red while extracting data from generic datasource into DSO.
I have done below things:-
1. Checked the jobs in source system, the job is successfully completed
2. The generic datasource is active and supporting delta with calender day in source system.
3. No TRfc error and no idocs stucked.
4. No short dumps in source system.
5. The delta queue(RSA7) is showing 0 with status as green.
6. Replicated the datasource On BW side and also activated the transfer rules by RS_TRANSU_ACTIVATE_ALL
The problem has not yet solved. Could you guys please suggest me what might be the reason for this error......

Safety upper limit : - 1
Safety lowerr limit : - 0
I have made the entries in va01 transaction, but the delta queus is not getting updated which should show 1.
Do Generic extraction require any job to transfer data from Database table to delta queue.
We are not able to get the delta records on BW side. Please suggest.

Regarding Generic DataSource loading transaction data
What I have done:
Create a Generic DataSource from a table, replicate it to BW.
Create a standard DataStore object, and create InfoPackage, and DTP.
Now I want to load data, What's the steps I need to do?
Start InfoPackage and execute DTP. But I can't see data in the DataStore. What's Wrong?
And Another Questions
I want to load data partially. I find Data Selection in InfoPackage, and enter values, and then what?

You did right, but please check whether data is available in the table for which you created generic data source.
If data is available in the table, then schedule the info package and check whether data came to PSA or not.
If data is available till PSA then execute DTP.
To load data partially:
We can do at 2 levels. a) at infopackage level and b) DTP level
a) To load data selectively give particular selections at PSA level, which will brings the data to BW as per our selection.
b) We can load all the data till PSA without any selections at infopackage level and give selections at DTP level which will load data to the particular DSO/CUBE as per selection.

Generic datasource technical settings: Data class : Transaction or Master?
Dear Experts,
I am not sure what is the difference in datasource technical settings (in R/3) : Data Class = Appl1 (transaction data) vs Data Class = Appl0 (master data).
The reason for asking is i have a z-table used as the table of a generic datasource and this table contains master data.
The Data Class is set as Transaction data.
It works. So, what is the difference if its set to Master data as the Data Class? Is there performance difference during data extraction?

Data classes are assigned during table creation and are maintained in technical settings,
Data class: By choosing data class some space will be allocated to the table in the database when it is created.
Each data class corresponds to a physical area in which all the tables assigned to this data class are stored.
There are 3 main data classes:
a) APPL0- Which is the master data. Data which will be rarely changed.
An example of master data can be like name, employee number and telephone number.
b) APPL1-Which is transaction data. Data that is frequently changed.
An example of transaction data is the goods in go down which will change as per the purchases.
c) APPL2-Which is organizational data. Customizing data that is defined when the system is installed and rarely changed.
Example may be table with country codes.
By assigning the data class to the table we can retrieve the data very easily.
There are also 2 more data classes USR and USR1, which are provided for the customer.
These are for the user developments. The tables assigned to these data classes are stored in a table space for user developments.

Problem while attaching master data source to generic datasource

I have created a generic datasource using three tables in crm systems. the tables are CMSD_CB, CMAD_LO_PRICE AND CMSD_LO_QUANT.
i have loaded data to bw system and want to attach 0ORGUNIT master datasource to the generic datasource. so that i can get 0ORGUNIT hierarchy and sales grp/office details.
could some one help how to solve this problem.

Master data is loaded separately from transaction data, so you will see your hierarchy from the moment you loaded it with the 0ORGUNIT hierarchy datasource into your infoobject 0ORGUNIT. -
Generic Datasource with Fuction Module with delta on Created Date

I have created a generic datasource using Function Module RSAX_BIW_GET_DATA. I have copied this function module and created a my own Function Module. I want to load delta using this. But I don't know how to handle delta in the code.
my code is working for full load but not for delta. I have seen that in ROOSOURCE tabel the Delta field is showing the AIE instead of D and extraction method is showing as F2. I have searched a lot of forums and articles but didn't get how to handle this.

Go through the link as suggested by AKhan which lets you understand the concept of offsets and the last extraction status.
In case of Table or View based GDS, the system takes care of the deltas based on the selections you make in the "Generic Delta" screen whereas in case of FM based DS, it is your responsibility to handle this part. Within your code, capture if the load is a Delta load (I_UPDMODE = D). Since your delta is on Created Date, maintain a Z table with name of the DS as the Key and a field representing the current value of the Delta field(created date in this case). When you first load the delta, there will be no record for your DS in this table. Create an entry with the current day. Next time when you load a delta, take this value, compare it with sy-datum and get all the records falling within these days. This has to be done in the Select stmt. Once selection happens, replace the value in the Z table with sy-datum. This way you can simulate the delta. The Z table can be used for other FM based Datasources also as it has DS as the key.
It would be easy if the exact SAP table where RSA7 delta field status is stored is known. Otherwise, the above method can be used.

Function Module in Generic DataSources in BI

I appreciate your answer about the Function Module in Generic DataSources in BI.
These are the steps I followd on R/3 side.
1) Create a structure with the R/3 table fileds based on the requirement.
2) Create a function module by copying RSAX (Function Group) and RSAX_BIW_GET_DATA_SIMPLE (Functin Module) into our own function group & Function Module (name starting with Y /Z). And use the structure(ex: ZSPMT) created in the reference data of 'Tables' tab (ex: E_T_DATA LIKE ZSPMT).
3) Use the structure name & function module name in the Generic DataSource
Finally when I want to use the Generic DataSource, do i need to insert the records myself in the table (or structre) I created ZSPMT? (which is used in Function Module)
If I need to insert the data into table ZSPMT myself, what is use of function module?
Can't I use the view of this table (ZSPMT) directly in Generic DataSource?
Is the function module used to filter/restrict the data based on client need?

why did you prefered function module?
if the table ZSPMT egts the data that you enter automatically then no need to use FM.
directly extract with tables/if more than one table then use views.
if you need especially the FM that could solve ur complex requirmnet.

Generating a Generic DataSource using Function Modules
I am attempting to create a generic DataSource using a function module. All of our DataSources are business content or custom generated that involve views. At least in our company this is true. Is there any resources available to me with examples on how to do this. I have looked at SAP's 'simple example' and would need a ABAP/BW Guru to figure it out! Any help would be greatfull. Thanx. JJ
Hi Jerry,
The simple example should provide you with the necessary requisite. All what you need to do is to
create your own extract structure and assign that as type for the table parameter e_t_data.
Now you will get the selection criteria, as well as the fields selected in the datasource from the 2 incoming tables. You need to write the necessary abap code to execute a query and populate your extract struture.
Once important peculiarity of this function module is that it is called several times, or as many times as the MAX parameter + 1. ie, once for each row fetched. Hence you will find a persistence method of using a CURSOR with HOLD property to retain the data between the function calls.
The help in generic datasource explains the 3 modes,
initialize, first call and the repeat call for the
function module. The simple function module example actually provides the necessary logic to deal with these modes and the example uses the sflight table.

Application Hierarchy in BW and Generic Datasources
Hi,
I am not able to see the updated Application Hierarchy in BW. ie with the Datasources I installed from RSA3 in the R3 system. I am successfully using then by loading them but it shows in New_Hier_root and then shows in Nodes_not_connected.
I had done the following
- in R3 - rsa5 - activated extractor,
rsa6- check extractor,
sbiw - transfer application comp hier
in BW - replicate data sources - assign - install Biz content - use it in loading
I need to create a Generic Datasource for a Y Table, again I am not able to specify an application component for the same, since it shows the unupdated applicaiton component hierarchy.

Delta-Specific Field for Generic DataSource
Hi,
I have defined a Generic DataSource for Transaction data on R/3-Side.
This DataSource is based on View/Table EKKO (Purchasing Document Header) for some specific customer requirements. Delta-Specific Field is AEDAT (Calend. Day). Safety Interval Upper Limit is set 1 Cal. Days. No Safety Interval Lower Limit has been defined. "New Status for Changed Records" has been marked.
When we see this DataSource in Extractor Checker (RSA3), this data source
Extracted all delta data where AEDAT is not blank.
When I see the content of table EKKO, I can find few records where AEDAT is blank.
These records are missing in Extractor Checker.
How I can solve this problem? Which delta-specific field can be used in
this generic Datasource? Should I define an additional Generic DataSource with
Delta-Specific Field BEDAT (as BEDAT is filled when AEDAT is blank in table EKKO)?
Thanks for the answer.Delta based on calday wont pick all the records which are recently posted and you can not run the delta more than one time in a day ,end of the day only you can run the delta.
Set the delta as Tme Stamp and specify the Upper limit to 5 minuts.
We can run the delta no. times and pick the documents posted in short interval of time.

Generic DataSource using InfoSet on BI 7.0
Hi gurus,
I need to extract data from a InfoCube through a generic DataSource. I have created an InfoSet Query based on this InfoCube and I have noticed this kind of InfoSet is not the same that is used by Tcode RSO2.
Does anybody know if there is any way to get this vai generic DataSource?
I need to get data from Infocube because de Delta Control must be the package number.

Problem in creating a generic datasource with infoset

After creating an infoset and a datasource, this selection option 'SELECT_S_ORDER' is added to my extract structure. However, after try filtering with this SELECT_S_ORDER, it doesn't filter data at all. Why? I want to filter data with my s_order.

I have a windows 8 computer. I can't connect my Ipad to Itunes wirelessly when my computer is a wired connection. I have to disconnect my ethernet cable from the computer and connect as a wifi connection.Then the Ipad shows up in Itunes.Any sugestion

Shutterfly order page does not open
In PSE 11 in organizer I select a photo and hit order prints....then hit order shutterfly prints (I have acct) It shows preparing files but the Shutterfly order page does not open....just goes back to the selected photo.
