Extended repair program?????

Hi! i bought a used eMac that's freezing and it's serial number falls within the extended repair program for bad capacitors. Can I still get it fixed under the program? Thanks, Tom

The serial number you provided indicates that it was manufactured in the 39th week of 2004. Apple believes that it was first purchased it in Canada late September of that year.
The link to detailed information concerning the eMac G4 Repair Extension Program for
Video and Power - June 2006 was removed following the expiration or the repair extension, but this page demonstrates that your unit met the basic serial number qualification test. Its symptoms as you describe them may or may not meet that test, and it surely fails the 'within three years of purchase' test, as well as the repair extension authorization program expiration test.
That said, you may contact Apple at (800) APL CARE and ask about extended eligibility, or take or ship the unit to an Apple Store, or authorized apple dealer, value added reseller or service provider, any of whom can determine overall eligibility for you.

  • Sudden shut down (not covered by Extended Repair Program)

I started having problems with sudden shut downs on my 17" iMac G5 1.9GHz lately (actually problem started after upgrading to Mac OS 10.4.8 this week): the computer will go dark like with a power outage - sometimes while I am working on something, other times while it is just idle.
I have researched the discussion board and found that earlier iMacs seem to have a known power problem, but have not found anything on my generation iMac so far (serial # W8547***).
I have tried all suggestions - including resetting SMU & PRAM, checked power lines, downloaded the new Security Update etc - nothing seems to do the trick. I hooked up an external harddrive last night to back up data - five tries each failed, because computer shuts down at some point or the other.
System log lists shutdown causes 2 & -110...

    Hi, J & F.
I am sure you have searched no only the forum, but also the support pages of apple.
If i understand you right, it happend EXACTLY after the update of the OSX. It looks tgo me as if something went wrong in this process. I would try:
    a) to start up in "single user mode" - this checks whether it is something else than the bare operating system; It would give you the indication that your machine is, hardware-wise, still fine. This would eliminate the Powersuplly problem. However, it does not isolate the powersupply as faultive in case that this step doesn't work!
    b) to start up in "Target disk mode" - to see whether you can get anything reasonable done. this helps you to see whether the disk can be used... nothing more.
The real solution probably comes only by reinstalling the original software from your install disk. Be sure that you have a backup of all your files!
I would try and "Archive and Install" , but do , directly after this, a "Repair permissions". If this doesn't help, i would go through an "ERASE and INSTALL". In both cases, don't upgrade the lates OSX versions, stay with the one from your install disk. only, if everything works, go and update OSX.
Hope this helps - please, post back.

  • Any chance of iMac G5 first generation repair program be active again?

Any possibility that the iMac G5 first generation repair program will be active again?
I had no idea about this program since I was away overseas for few years and by the time
I return in 2009 and used my iMac G5 again, it started to have problems with display and then later the power supply I think?
Now I have just left the iMac G5 alone and let it sit on my desk like a display only and unable to use it thinking to fix it will be way too expensive.
Then today decided to check online to see if there are other solutions other than throwing it away as a garbage,
I found there was actually an extended program and I missed it!!
Because of this encounter I disliked using apple and reluctant to buy any more of apple products due to many limitations and this
extremly expensive iMac G5 I bought in 2005 and barely used it.
Hopfully there are other solutions to this old iMac G5 I have that I cannot use any more along with the expensive Final Cut Pro ver 4.5
studio suite I bought that only works with it.

There is no chance the repair extension progrm will be renewed, but call Customer Support and explain the situation. You might get lucky and find someone who's having a very good day --  or not -- who will OK the repairs. Be polite; don't start by ranting about how you won't buy any more Macs.
But I wouldn't bet the ranch on it. The program ended three years ago, in the fall of '08, I believe. If you had reported the problem in '09 when it started, you might have had a much better chance.
Perhaps one needed to have registered the computer -- I don't know --- but I don't believe any of the affected owners, registered or not, were notified by Apple of the program. You can try making the point that you were never notified of the program's existence and therefore had no way of taking advantage of it.
The iMac G5 is by now a "vintage" Mac, and I don't even think the Apple Stores will work on it. Maybe an AASP will, but the parts they get for it from Apple, if any are still availble, may be very dicey, anyway.
There are a few places that may still work on these for far less than Apple or an AASP.

  • When will there be a fix for the permissions problem in iTunes 11.1.1? I get a list of three or four-hundred when I run the repair program.

Does anyone know when will there be a fix for the permissions problem in iTunes 11.1.1? I have a list of three to four hundred repairs everytime I use the repair program. ~Mike.

Likely someone does but Apple has not stated if/wehn.

Then don't use the repair program unless you are actually having an issue.

  • How do I run a repair program?

How do I run a repair program

Normally there are instructions provided on how to use a repair program, usually they are provided by whatever resource made that repair program available, such as a web page.  It might also be the case that the repair program provides its own instructions which could be in the form of a separate text file or possible part of the application itself where you start the program and it tells you what to do.
If you can identify the repair program you are talking about and indicate where you acquired it from, it might be possible to provide more specific help.

I have never used or needed one, but if you dogpile "zip repair" you will get quite a few hits. Most are not free, however.

  • If I have my damaged iPod Touch gen 5 (no back camera) replaced under the repair program, will the replacement have a camera?

If I have my damaged iPod Touch 16gb gen 5 (no back camera) replaced under the repair program, will the replacement 16gb have a camera?

No. Replacements are always the same as what is being replaced. No back camera now means no back camera after replacement.

  • 1st gen repair program time turnaround?

It looks like i might have to return my imac for the 1st gen repair program - as I've started having major problems with the graphics display and waking up from sleep.
Has anybody sent their imacs off to be repaired under this scheme - how long did it take?

Submitted my information on the 13th of November and haven't received my shipping materials either.
I was worried about the 10 day cancellation issue so I called Apple customer service this afternoon to check in. The CSR I spoke to said there was no record on my account of any box having been sent. She put me on hold to speak to some higher-ups to get more information, and when she came back told me that due to "far higher" than anticipated volume of recall requests, they're just really, really behind with mailing out boxes. She said "I was told to tell you to ignore the 10 day cancellation thing and whatever it says in the automatically generated email."
She also said that when they DO send out my box, Apple will email me the UPS tracking number for my package. I'm not sure if this is something they do automatically for everyone, or if she did something on her end to get this set up for me.

  • This is not right: time limit on iMac G5 Repair Program

iMac G5 Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302181
The program covers affected iMac G5 computers for up
to three years from the original date of purchase.
Apple sold iMacs G5 computers that were defective when they left the factory. Apple knows the cause of the defects. In some of the affected iMacs the defects manifested them earlier, in others later.
That Apple is using a time limit for the free repair is not right because the manifestation of the problem is usage dependant - those who used their iMac little (and the problem appears late) are being penalized. The correct way would have been to recall and repair all of the affected iMacs or put no time limit on the free repair.

    Hello All,
I agree as well. My iMac G5 would not power up on Saturday morning. I bought it in Feb. 2005. I had the logic board and power supply replaced in May 2006. My apple care ran out in Feb of this year. Still, I called Apple, thinking perhaps something could be done.
The tech was very, very nice, and talked with his supervisor three times to see if perhaps I could get some kind of discount on a new computer. No go. And he explained that Apple is no longer making the old logic boards, they have to be made special, etc. I do feel a little cheated, since they replaced the logic board with one that had the same problems (opened it up--bulging capacitors with the cross mark on them). Well, it lasted two years after that, but we are not hard on our computers, and now I wish I'd have been less cautious with it. Maybe it would have died two months sooner when I still had Applecare!
Nevertheless, I still went out and bought a new iMac 24 in. 2.8 with 4 GB ram and a new Airport Extreme Base Station (Apple products are still the best I've ever used). I'm going to wait awhile to get Apple Care--to extend my coverage time as long as possible, since even a couple months would have helped in my situation.
Good luck to all you G5 owners. And thanks to all the people in the G5 forums that have been so helpful in the past. And Back-up often--you'll be glad you did.

  • Ibook g3 600 video repair program issues! dead 'book

    Hi
My Ibook has scrambled video, etc. I know that it is one of the problems in the Ibook repair extension proublem. This is the first time this has happened. It was bought in Aug, 2002. The program was good for only three years. Has anyone resently had their logic board replaced for free?
This would help me get apple to replace mine!
    Thanks

You can try calling Apple at (800) 767-2775 and ask for Customer Relations (NOT Customer Service--they can't help you) and ask them to please make an exception to the three-year limit in your case. They have been making a few exceptions to the rule.
    Good luck.

  • Trouble bootin, but imac model is not the same mentioned in repair program

i have a rev a imac g5 which has started to display problems stated in in the extension program for the imacs(intermittent shutdown and now not powerin up),the emc no. is not 2056(its 2008) as stated
i had given my imac for another recall previously,is it possible ,the change made previously makes it applicable for this recall
this is the extension program i had given it previously
    http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/
and this is the one showin the same symptoms i have
    http://www.apple.com/support/imac/powersupply/repairextension/
    Thanx
    Georgy

For the Rev As, the determining factor is the serial number, which you will find in About this Mac, under the blue apple in the menu bar. It may be, that because of your previous repair, your logicboard was changed, in which case, no serial number will show - look at your bill of sale to find it, and then see if the number is covered.
    Please post back,
    Miriam

  • Can't download extended function program

I can't download evernotel's webclipper.  I already followed the suggestion made by evernote technician that I deleted all related file and programs related to evernote (using appcleaner, empty trash can), restarted Mac, reinstall evernote, and then downloaded webclippers installation file.  When I hit "install" key, a window pops out telling me "unable to install this extended function".  I was unable to install another program, fastestbue, which was another extended program for safari.  I doubt that was because I had Kaspersky installed in my mac.
My macair has MAC OSX (10.7.5), safari 6.1.1.

    A.
    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked
Allow user to administer this computer
Then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
    B.
Remove the worthless "Kaspersky" and "AppCleaner."
Remove "Kaspersky Security" by following the instructions on this page. If you have a different version of the product, the procedure may be different. The product includes a Safari extension that may not be removed by the uninstaller.

  • Sony's fake headphone exchange repair program

Why is sony running a fake headphone repair exchange program out of texas.  They state defective headphones can be sent in for repair or exchange,  for a fee.  But when you send in the head phones there is a two month wait,  only to be told there are no repairs,  no exchanges,  no returned headphones,  and no refund.  I'm out the shipping,  the fee,  no returned headphones,  and no answer. I believe sony is scamming customers refusing service,  refusing exchange,  refusing refund,  and refusing to return headphones,  this is criminal behavior.
Must we start a twitter, Facebook, google plus public campaign to get sony to stop screwing customers.
Someone needs to start  investigating  Sony's exchange program.
I am contacting the califonia department of consumer affairs, and post office,  to submit mail fraud changes,  as they Using post office to facilitate theft of customer property.
    #Sony ******
    they have horrendous customer service.

I am very surprised that I don't have most of these problems after the update. Everything is fine, except the touchscreen, and perhaps small issues that I haven't encountered yet. If you usually use 100-200 apps - this is normal. It's too much 3rd party software. Even a good PC will start behaving strangely when you install hundreds of pieces of 3rd party SW.
What I noticed with this phone is that it was extremely buggy since day one. Many of these bugs I managed to fix with doing several factory resets and using the SUS software to repair the software condition. I presume some of these bugs are due to bad installations, lost packets when downloading the update, and general interference with all that 3rd party software. The brand's bloatware, google's bloatware, and the generic stuff you need and get with every android. It's a complete mess.
However, some of these problems keep happening, no matter what. These are:
    - The HORRIBLE touchscreen issue. Seriously, the biggest and most important dealbreaker for me.
    - The really underperforming Wi-Fi signal reception skills of this phone. Where literally all of my collegues manage to get reception, I can't. Really pathetic for a flagship model.
    - The bad quality and clipping of the sound coming out of the speaker.
    - The bad quality of the screen itself. It does badly in sunlight, and has a completely visible matrix when opposed to direct light. I can even see this under the lamp in my toilet. It's ugly and frankly, not premium at all. Not many users see this, but compare it to the Samsung displays of samsung and apple and you will know it for sure.
What do these issues have in common? They are all hardware.

  • When i install itunes it keeps saying repair program and i cant access store

I keep reinstalling itunes and before I do I delete all apple software that's installed in my Sony laptop by the way I also got windows Vista..
And whe I reinstall itunes it won't let me access the store? Also when I go to programs it says repair for all my programs I have itunes, quicktime, apple software update, apple mobile device support and safari all these programs say repair in my programs and features. So im guessing this has something to do with the reason why i cant access the store.. I tried turning off my firewall and anti virus before i downloaded itunes and everything??
I had this problem before all i did was uninstall the programs all of apple programs and then reinstalled itunes and it worked fine now this time it wont work i can add songs to itunes eveything but cant access the store and like i said all my programs say repair.

Open a Windows Command prompt, e.g. Hit Start > Run, type in CMD and press OK. Type in SUBST F C:\<enter>
This will map F: to C: until the machine is restarted or you enter
SUBST F: /D at the command prompt. Now you can try uninstalling or upgrading the software again. (If upgrading the software, install the software in the default location, not on the F:\ drive.)
