External Cue points

Hi,
I was hoping that someone could help me out with this. I have
a SWF that plays a FLV with actionscript cue points that when the
cue point is reached the timeline plays. I need the cue points
variables (the timecode) to be loaded from a text file because non
Flash users will be adding content. The problem is that I can get
it to work with putting the variables in the actionScript. But if I
load the variables from the text file the playhead will not play
with the cue point is reached. Below is the code that I am using.
Thanks in advance.

I'm sure there is more than one way to skin this cat, but here is what I use with NetStream video to load other .swfs (could be photos or other videos) at certain points in the main video:
ns.onCuePoint = function(evt:Object){
    trace(evt.name);
    trace(evt.time);
    if(evt.name == "play_vid1") {
        trace("YO!Loading wide_holder!");
        wide_holder.loadMovie("rm/images/black_bear.swf");
    if(evt.name == "play_vid2") {
  trace("YO!Loading standard_holder!");
        standard_holder.loadMovie("rm/images/sqis.swf");
in this case using an "event" cue point object embedding at certain times in the video.
Lots of info on the Web, here is just one:

  • Controlling external information using cue points

    Hello,
    I am trying to change information on my site using cue points in my video.  My video is in a flash quiz and I am trying to change my objects such as an ad or photo with these cue points.  In otherwords, when a video begins, or when a cue point is reached the photo outside the video would change.  I am currently using cue points to go to the next frame after the video completes, but I don't know how to make it change things outside the video.  Thank you for your help.

  • Using event cue points to add buttons

    How do I go about having buttons display in an external flv file?  I know I can establish event cue points with Adobe media encoder.  I want the the buttons and graphics to appear and stay on the screen, even though the external flv loops.  Its been a long day and I have exhausted all other options, otherwise I would not have asked on here.  Thanks in advance.  Oh btw using Flash cs 5.5 and as 3.  thanks

    i just added x and y locations:
    Movie01.addEventListener(MetadataEvent.CUE_POINT,cuepointF);
    function cuepointF(e:MetadataEvent):void{
    trace(e.info.name);  // this will display your cuepoints when their dispatched.  you'll use if-statements below this line to add your buttons.  eg,
    if(e.info.name=="middle"){
    addChild(button1);  // assuming button1 is already created.
    button1.x=639;
    button1.y=140.5;
    it worked with no errors
    thanks again!

  • Play different cue point in a movie

    I need to have an interface that runs several movies with cue points.
    In the interface I need to have many buttons. Movies can be different with different cue points.
    The first button should perform the first part of the movie (cue point from "a" to "b"), the second button must perform the second part of the movie (cue point from "b" to "c") and so on.
    How I must set the script and wich objects is better to use.
    Thanks.

    It seems you're adding the MP3 as a legacy media object, which is strongly discouraged (and impossible as of Acrobat X).
    MP3 files don't support genuine "cue points", but with Acrobat 9+ Rich Media annotations you can easily set a button to play a file from a specified offset time (in seconds) - by choosing a button action of "Multimedia Operation (Acrobat 9 and later)", then "Seek to time", and entering the offset in seconds from the start of the track in the bottom field of the dialog.
    With legacy media it's possible to do a similar thing with JavaScript, by entering a settings:startAt value in the argument object passed to media.openPlayer(), though this is not documented in the latest SDK and can't be used when authoring in Acrobat X, it's explained in the SDK for version 9. For example this starts playback 2.5 seconds in, provided the external player supports that operation:
    var args = { settings: { startAt: 2.5 } };
    app.media.openPlayer(args);
    Remove the existing script on your button and paste in the above code, changing the value as required. This assumes only one media object is present, if your existing code is more complex you will need to edit in the extra settings obbject by hand. With Rich Media, it's all done for you and there's no scripting involved.

  • Handling Flash video cue points in Javascript

    Can any kind person give me any pointers on how to get Javascript in an HTML page containing an FLV video to listen for cue points in the video? I understand how to get the cue points in, but most people only seem to want to handle the cue point events within Flash. I want to use Javascript to display a different text in a page element at each point. Does the method vary depending on what player you're using? How about when it's the standard Flash playback component? Does there need to be any special Actionscript in the SWF containing the FLV?
    Thanks
    Fred

    Thanks Rob, will do.
    For anyone else looking into this issue there are some links to the ActionScript documentation on this StackOverflow post and an explanation of how to use ExternalInterface halfway down the page in this Adobe Devnet tutorial.
    Presumably you'd first import the ExtenalInterface class into your Flash with
    import flash.external.*;
    And then add an ActionScript event listener which sends the ID of each cue point out to the Javascript using the ExternalInterface.call() method:
    ExternalInterface.call(methodName:String, [parameter1:Object])

  • Cue points - listener vs event?

    I'm a little over my head here...
    I have a movie that loads an external flv. In the flv I have
    a cue point at
    the very end to mark the end of the movie. Once the flv is
    done playing,
    I'd like to advance to the next frame.
    There are a few posts here and there and I'm not sure if I'd
    be better
    testing for the end cue point with a listener or if it could
    be an event.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    I'm using Flash 8 Pro/PC

    David,
    >> There are a few posts here and there and I'm not
    sure

    Cue points are events, no matter how you handle them. There
    are three
    basic categeories of object functionality: properties
    (characteristics),
    methods (things the object can do), and events (things the
    object can react
    to). An "end" cuepoint is something your video object reacts
    to, so it's an
    event. How you *handle* (that is, manage) this event depends
    on how the
    object was written. Some objects, such as Button, TextField,
    and MovieClip
    instances require event handlers. Some require event
    listeners.
    I blogged on this just the other day, so for what it's
    worth, take a
    look here ...

  • Need some help learning cue points, etc

    I need some help with a Flash project I'm working on. If any
    Flash junkies out there are up for sitting down with me through
    email or IM and helping me get to the point where I have a template
    FLA doing what I want to do, I'd be willing to pay you. It wouldn't
    be much, but it would be something. Here's what I'm trying to do:
    I need to create an interactive talking-head style flash
    presentation with a number of progressive download externally
    linked FLV files, playing in succession, supported by movie-clip
    text animations and supporting graphics which are triggered by cue
    points in the video. I also need a simple navigation menu linking
    to the FLV files. I've got some of this down already, namely, I've
    laid the FLVs in and they are playing in succession. I'm stuck on
    the cue point part. At this point I really just need some hands-on
    help. I've bought books, I've scoured the web.
    I'm easy to communicate with, and I'm good with computers and
    comfortable in many multimedia design programs. Flash is very
    powerful, but tougher to learn than I expected, and I'm at the end
    of my rope =P

    My advice... start with a very simple "proof of concept" project before you attempt the entire package.
    It will be much easier to scale up if you first have a very good understanding of what's going on.
    So one simple video with just one cuepoint and only one button and additional display. You'll also have to work out the interaction of pausing the video when a cuepoint is reached or button pushed to display the graph, giving the viewer time to read the graph... then when the viewer closes the graph, the video should "resume".
    Start very simple and build on that only after you understand the fundamentals.
    Second, you mention "video reports"... plural. So that most likely means that you will need a video player with a "playlist".
    This may mean that you'll need to learn to use a little .xml to bring in the playlist data. You may also find xml an excellant way to bring other data into you project.
    At the link listed above there is an excellant tutorial on "Integrating Flash and XML"
    "Flash and XML"
    "XML Video Playlist"
    "ActionScript 3 XML Basics"
    "ActionScript 3 Advanced XML"
    Personally I would not even begin a project like this without considering how I could use xml to feed data into the project.
    Here's an example of a video player I created that has a playlist, thumbnails, categories, transcipts, "Now Playing" etc. All that data comes into the main .swf via various xml files. Super good way in input data into Flash.
    http://www.drheimer.com/video/
    Yours is a rather ambitious project and will take awhile to gain the skill and assemble the pieces. So when you come to a new part... first create a real simple "proof of concept" model so you can learn how that section works. Don't expect to be able to assemble the entire project all at once.

  • How to sync image slides to video cue points?

    Hi, I'm working in AS3. What is the best way to sync some
    image slides to cue points I have embedded in a video? Ideally the
    video would play and and the image will change according to the cue
    points.

    Hi there.
    I encountered that same question just recently. Here's what I
    did:
    First, import your video, choosing to load an external video
    w/ FLYPlayback componant. Name it "vid". The video should already
    your embedded cue points. In this case, the cue points are called
    "Slide 1", "Slide 2" etc.
    Next, bring a UILoader componant to the stage and name it
    "myLoader"
    Specify where your images are (in "myImageHere") and away you
    go my friend.
    Here is the code:
    import fl.video.FLVPlayback;
    import fl.video.VideoEvent;
    import fl.video.MetadataEvent;
    import fl.containers.UILoader;
    vid.addEventListener(MetadataEvent.CUE_POINT, cueSlide);
    function cueSlide(e:MetadataEvent):void {
    var cuePointName=e.info.name;
    if (cuePointName=="Slide 1") {
    myLoader.source="yourImageHere1.jpg";
    } else if (cuePointName == "Slide 2") {
    myLoader.source="yourImageHere2.jpg";
    } else if (cuePointName == "Slide 3") {
    myLoader.source="yourImageHere2.jpg";
    }

  • Control slide advance via video cue points

    Hi Folks I would like to have a video clip control the advance of an external slideshow by using cue points set in the video. Idealy I would have 2 swfs (video.swf and slides.swf) embeded in a web page side by side and as the video reaches a certain cuepoints it advances the slides in the slideshow swf. It would also be good to fullscreen either one or the other as required.
    Any help appreciated.
    Dave.

    Hi Folks I would like to have a video clip control the advance of an external slideshow by using cue points set in the video.
    The videos do not need to be live streamed and can be prepared with keyframes at the key positions for slide advance
    So is it keyframes or cuepoints? I didn`t say sth. of Livestream either.
    Streaming means simply the process where a video can already start even if its not already completely loaded. This is consideres not only good but standard practice nowadays.
    Embedding videos on the timeline is a bad idea. Using Keyframes in this case is an even worse idea.

  • Exporting subtitles for Flash cue points

    I want to not just create subtitles, but use them in Flash video and other cue-point supported applications for distribution on the web. Is there a way to export my subtitles created in DVDSP to a standard stf or other document? Or do I have to use external software and then export for Flash, DVDSP, etc? If I have to use a third party, which one works best? I've seen many in the Apple Downloads section...
    Thanks,
    Chris.

    Hi Sigmundo,
    At work ( disturb media ) we've finished a karaoke flash project. I haven't used Soundbooth then, we had limited time, so I wrote a few handy commands for flash that took care of the job. Hopefully we will be able to document that, right an article and share the commands as a packed extension.
    I've learned Soundbooth over the weekend and FLVCuePoints was one of the highlights. I've used FLV
    and everything worked out fine. I didn't know the Media(Flash Video) Encoder allows you open an xml
    file and insert cuepoints at that stage.
    Anyway,

  • Flash video - Cue Points

    I've just added some external FLV playback in a project that I am currently completing.
    I've currently set my navigation button (next_btn) set to invisible when the page loads (forcing the user to watch the video).
    Can I set a cue point in the video to change the state of the next button (i.e. next_btn._visible = true;) ?

    you don't need a cuepoint to detect the end of your video.  use:
    var lo:Object = {};
    lo.complete = function(eObj:Object):Void {
    next_btn._visible=true;
    flv_pb.addEventListener("complete", lo);   // <- use the instance name of your flvpb component

  • How to trigger embedded cue points

    Hi all
    I need to trigger embedded cue points. I have navigation cue

    section. I also have an event cue point where I want to import

    Hi,
    you would need the ADF Faces context to PPR an area on a screen, the FacesContext doesn't help. Also, PPR is a feature of ADF Faces and not the external context in JSF. I would try to issue PPR through JavaScript using the AdfPage object
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/apirefs.1111/e12046/oracle/adf/view/js/base/AdfPage.html
    What I would try is
    - define an af:serverListener on af:document
    - look the af:document up using JavaScript
    - invoke a managed bean through serverListener
    - have this bean issuing the PPR
    See: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/web.1111/b31973/af_event.htm#DAFBJGAH
    Note that you don't need the clientListener since you invoke the server listener from extern (your SVG)

  • Premiere CS3: How can you encode xml cue point data in the chapter section of a marker for FlashVid?

    Hi there,
    I'm a total newb to this forum, so hello adobe premiere community! I'm perplexed by Adobes documentation on Premiere (and I'm sure I'm not the first ) anyway on the live documents page below:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/3.0/help.html?content=WS9390BED7-9466-46ea-A0E A-3240F1AFC36C.html
    it states that:
    “The cue point data in the Chapter field of a sequence marker in Adobe Premiere Pro will be encoded as Flash XML. For the XML protocol required, see Flash Help.”
    Which is great…except this information doesn’t exist seemingly in either the Premiere documentation or Flash either for that matter, but as I’m interested in working with the chapter/marker area in Premiere – should I really be told to go off and search the documentation for another application, probably not!  What would have been useful would have been a code snippet saying you do it like this, but of course, that would make things too easy!
    Basically, I understand that in After FX you can add Flash marker information specifically for interpretation when exporting to Flash Video (i.e. name, type and parameters etc) and it suggests that you can do the same above in Premiere CS3 using some kind of concatenated string in the chapter area…it just doesn’t tell you how anywhere seemingly – WHY ADOBE!
    Currently when I export markers as cue points based on the advice in the page above, anything I put in the chapter section to force Premiere to create a cue point is converted to a string, which becomes the cue point ‘name’.
    This cue point name is then automatically appended to the ‘time’ the marker was inserted at and is always encoded as type ‘navigation’, with no obvious means of adding ‘parameters’ into the equation.
    So (finally) does anyone know if you can insert this information into the chapter area for correct interpretation by flash (i.e. thus allowing you to choose between either 'navigation' or 'event' types, and pass as many 'parameters' as you wish etc) or are you just limited to supplying a name, and it being automatically set to the navigation type with no parameters?
    I’m sorry for this long essay but at least the issue is well defined for you to answer, honestly any help you can provide what so ever would really be most appreciated!
    Best regards,
    Kat
    PS – I have utterly no knowledge of XML either just in case you were wondering – and my only interest in XML is getting this basic information encoded into the FLV file from Premiere Pro CS3! Please help, pretty please with daisy’s!!!

    Hi dradeke,
    Thanks for your reply, which is indeed useful as clearly Adobe have made this task easier and less obscure in CS4 by adding simple interface functionality, however I'm stuck with using CS3 for the moment.  Its not majorly a problem as the video material in question can be exported uncompressed then setup with cue points using the Flash encoder as an alternative (i.e. or even After FX CS3 also) which both provide the same features as Premiere CS4 seemingly. It is just that it would be much easier to be able to drop in simple markers whilst working with Premiere CS3, as this is what we are going to be using primarily, I just wondered if anyone knew how to invoke this in CS3 - its possible you can't, the documentation is vague at best!
    However I really appreciate your response and help, thanks
