FAQ Suggest

Jeremy, you said don't panic, write an FAQ suggestion instead - here is one. In a nutshell, issues concerning Vista entering sleep. I'm pretty sure lots have asked related questions, although maybe not many on this forum (as yet). What does Creative have to with it's I believe it'scan have a lot to do with it. When a Creative SB X-Fi driver is enable in the device manager, entering Vista's sleep is highly unreliable, but with the Creative product DISABLED in device manager, suddenly, magically, what-da-ya-know, entry into sleep is almost 00% reliable (possibly actually 00%, I just haven't done enough testing yet to be sure). Don't think its an FAQ? Here's a link to a blog of someone who seems to have come to the same conclusions as me:http://www.superwasp.net/weblog/2007...p-problems.htmThe last few paragraphs contain the essence of what this guy is saying. Here's another person raising the same issue on your own forums. I note (with disgust) that he was not deigned worthy of a response.http://forums.creative.com/creativel...essage.id=2042As far as I can see his issue has still not been addressed, much less fixed. I am cross about this, as I have just downloaded the latest Vista 32 bit driver from the Creative website in an attempt to resolve the issue, and found that entry into sleep is still just as BAD, while with the 'X-Fi' device disabled entry into sleep is still just as GOOD. If Creative have ignored Vista 'sleep' when writing the driver, then I'm?VERY cross, but I'll save that for later as it's only an IF at this stage. So lets have an FAQ 'Why won't my Vista computer (with Creative SB card enabled)?enter sleep without crashing?' I'd really love to know the answer. I really hope the answer as something to do with user error, as that will mean I have an easy fix.

Hi mel,
If something at Start Up might be conflicting, you can try to disable any apps from loading automatically, to see if one of those might be causing the problem. You can do that through Start-> Run, then type "msconfig". Under one of those tabs is a list of applications that load automatically when Windows boots. You can untick applications to stop that, you can always re-enable them later. If unticking everything helps, start re-enabling them again slowly to find out which is causing the problem.
Do you have a webcam installed on that system?

Honestly, all the people in all the world that look at this forum, no-one can tell me why my itunes is causing my machine to fall over?
I wiped the machine and started again. Fresh XP install, fresh iTune download, fired it up imported one album and bang. Over it went. • FAQ suggestion

    Hi
I've read all the threads in the forum and there are several questions that keep coming up.
I know the answers to some of the questions but still looking for answers to the rest.
The team might find it useful to see it from the view point of someone new to LCCS
and maybe posting an official FAQ.
    1. What Flex version does LCCS support? Is it possible to use flex 4? Is it possible to use Flash only?
    2. What is the difference between stratus and LCCS?
    3. Does LCCS have the stratus feature X?
    4. Can LCCS be used as a rendezvous service similar to stratus?
    5. When to use the WebcamPod and when the WebcamPublisher+WebcamSubscriber?
    6. Can LCCS be used for private 1-1 video chat? How can I have a big view of a friend stream and a small view of my stream?
    7. How to change the aspect ratio of WebcamSubscriber?
    8. Is it possible to send data p2p? Is it possible to send files p2p?
    9. What are the use cases for p2p and when server based shared model is recommended?
    10. Is it possible to enforce RTMFP and disable failover to hub and spoke?
    11. I see the webcam stream but I can't hear audio.
    12. Does LCCS implement screen sharing?
    13. I'm running the sample but getting errors. (Check that you first log in as the owner...)
    14. How can I debug my app?
    Thanks

    Hi Dan,
Thanks for the suggestion - I think you're totally right that we need an FAQ. Hopefully in time for the next release (weeks away) we'll get something up for these questions.
      appreciate the feedback!

  • FAQ Suggestions and Corrections

This thread is available so you can recommend suggestions and corrections to the FAQ.
Please add only FrameMaker FAQ related entries here.
Please post software-related questions to the regular FrameMaker and FrameMaker+SGML forums and topics. Do not post them here. This topic only concerns suggestions and questions for the FAQ.
    Thanks!
    Sean

    Sean,
I know, I know: everybody's an editor, but how about this?
To create a PDF from FrameMaker make sure that you have installed the Acrobat Distiller printer instance. This is NOT done by using the Add Printer option found in Start > Settings > Printers. Instead:
    1. Download the latest Adobe Universal Printer Driver Installer from Adobe.
    2. Make sure you have the latest PPD file available. You will be asked to find it during printer installation.
    3. Double-click the .exe file to install the driver you downloaded.
    4. When you are asked for the PPD file, browse to find it on your system.
Now you will have a printer instance called Acrobat Distiller. Use this printer when you create PDF files or when you create PostScript files from FrameMaker.
Do not use Save As PDF! This seems handy, but doesn't let you control Distiller job options. Instead:
    1. From your Frame file or Frame book file, Print.
    2. Make sure to select Print to File.
    3. Make sure that Acrobat Distiller is the printer selected. It is good practice to make sure Acrobat Distiller is the default printer for your system before you go from Frame to Acrobat.
    4. Distill the resulting postscript file.
Using watched folders can make your Frame-to-Acrobat tasks nearly automatic. See the Acrobat Guide for more information.
Sean, I think that your post may give the beginner a little too much information they won't understand until they've been at this for awhile. The "If you are outputting to a service bureau..." part for example. I think the FAQ should answer the questions for beginners. As they gain more experience and confidence, they will start to do things your way--the daring Save As, for example!
Your troubleshooting ideas are great. Can you add, under the b&w or grayscale PDF problem that it might be caused by selecting Spot as Black in the Frame print dialog?
Hope I'm not too much a pain about this... Also hope I didn't mess up the details in my suggestions...

  • FAQ suggestions archive

The FAQ forum will constantly evolve as issues are added and updated. Since the topics are read only other than to forum workers, we wanted to give users a special topic where they can add their suggestions for additions and corrections.
Please keep in mind that all forum workers are volunteers, they do this because they enjoy helping other users.

Would someone like to explain what the criteria are for including a topic in the FAQ? Is there a predetermined number of times (frequency) the same question has to be asked before it's included? Does someone, or does a committee perhaps, actually monitor all topics, decide which ones are really about the same problem, give a new wording (Supertopic) to all the problems that are the same but assigned differently worded topics by different users, and then, when they have met the frequency requirement they are included? I kind of imagine the process is a lot simpler than that, somehow. Possibly it's just based on someone's overall impressions about 'frequency'. Yes? No? Maybe 'frequency' is not being used as a criterion at all here. In #19, this thread, a question is asked and in #20 the asker is referred to the Photoshop_Win Forum.
"Post in Photoshop_Win rather than here which is for suggestions as to
waht should go into the FAQ's"
Does this mean one need only 'suggest' a question, whether or not it is "frequently asked", and it may be included in the FAQ? The 'F' begins to appear increasingly less appropriate; and what are the criteria, if any, according to which a 'suggestion' gets validated? There is an allegation somewhere in this thread that the users aren't using the FAQ. Frankly fellas and femmes, it's for failure to fathom the fuzziness of the FAQ's features I frequently fear. Finally, what I'm really on about is how does one get that neat, smaller font, quote text into a post? No *this* is my final word, suggestion...How about a forum for topics relating to overall use of Adobe Forums. I have any number of questions about that that I don't find answers for in the HELP links. Cheers, best regards, salutations, Dave

  • FAQ suggestions wanted

    Hi, folks.
I'm looking for some ideas here. I'd like to organize the FAQs better in the hope of making them a bit more user-friendly.
Do we need to create "sections" for different types of FAQs? Should we prioritize some FAQs, and push others to the bottom of the list? Are there often-asked questions missing from the list? Are there FAQs which you feel are no longer relevant, or are confusing or incorrect?
    Thanks for your input!
    Neil

Ya know (and I'm not sure how J.C. and others would react, but)...
I'm not sure whether it would work toward more effectively steering visitors where they need to go, but the text info in the gray box at the top of the thread index could be replaced by an attention-grabbing image, with image maps for the links.
Since the text formatting hasn't seemed to really work to get newcomers directed toward the FAQ's maybe something that's visually attractive might.
Some people's eyes gloss over when all they see is text, but perhaps a little decent (not-garish) design would help.
It might be worth a try. If there are too many objections, it could always be put back to text-only, easily enough.
And how to accommodate NNTP visitors, you ask? ALT text? I dunno...I'm not much of a sitebuilding geek, so suggestions would have to be offered for that.
(Don't smite me too hard, please. I'm just trying to help the brainstorming process here :) )

  • Do CC users have access to current programs after cancelling a subscription? The FAQs suggests we do

One Q&A in your FAQs has attracted my attention.
    ~~~~~
    Do Creative Cloud members have access to previous versions of Creative Cloud apps?
    Yes. Creative Cloud paid members have access to a select set of archived versions of the desktop apps. Starting with CS6, select older versions of the desktop creative apps will be archived and available for download. Archived versions are provided "as is" and are not updated to work with the latest hardware and software platforms.
    ~~~~~
Does this mean as a CC subscriber I can cancel my subscription at any time and walk away with a usable version of the 'select set' of software? Be it CS6 or what ever may be archived in the future at the time of subscription cancellation.

    Sjaani wrote:

If only it was that easy.
No, you must be a current "Creative Cloud paid member" to have access to any Cloud versions: current or archived.
When you cancel your membership or allow it to expire then your access to all versions of the software ceases. That's the only exit strategy available.
The idea is that, as a current subscriber, if you're using CC or some later version and you absolutely must access CS6 to complete a project or collaborate with someone then you can.

  • I am getting "Connection was reset" when trying to load any of the "My Yahoo" pages. Other sites appear to work, and trying the FAQ suggestions did not work

When I tried to log into my my.yahoo.com page, entering my user ID and password, I got the following error message:
    '''The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."
I am able to open the same page in Windows Explore 6.0 and 8.0, and when using Firefox on a different machine
Also, last week, everything worked just fine.
So it appears that something must have happened to the
    configuration on this machine.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • FAQ SUGGESTION - DELL US

Queries on card problems should be addressed to Dell or the Dell Forum as your Audigy Soundcard is not the same as the retail version and uses different drivers and is supplied with different software.

I still have the order comfirmation paper, it lists all my chosen parts of the computer, and the soundcard is not refered to as OEM. it is simply listed as "Creative sound blaster audigy 2 ZS 7. soundcard". it is also just called something similar to that when listed by the computer, such as when I look at the "audio devices" thing in control panel. sooooo, is it or is it not OEM?Message Edited by MPEG on 07-5-2005 07:48 PM

    Chris,
Like I said, Im relatively new to PhotoShop and PS forum. I have researched the PS manual, PS help topics and this forum. I am not an individual that would ask a question of hard-working volunteers about a subject that I have not already researched. And yes, I know and understand what FAQs are and how they are generally presented on the web.
Huh? The FAQ section is for administrators to add things to, not users. If you have a question, you ask in the main forum. If many people ask the same question, then the administrators add an entry to the FAQ.
Okay if this is true, how was I able to post a message? I wasnt aware that I couldnt post a FAQ suggestion to the FAQ suggestion Forum? Hmm, maybe I missed the
    small print on that one.
Look ... I do NOT want to create any hostility with you. You have given me some answers and I appreciate your comments. I will go back and "wade through" all of the forums to look for basic or frequent problems that may answer some frequent questions.
    Cheers!

Sound Blaster FAQ - READ ALL OF ME BEFORE POSTING - Updated 07/15/05 [ Edited ]Options01-24-2005 07:51 AM - last edited on 08-05-2010 07:14 PM by * KokChoy-CL
    Before Posting:
Is your sound card not working? Do you need advice on what to try to fix it? Then you are at the right place. Before posting your question, there are a few things you will want to check first.
Perhaps your question has already been asked and answered. Thousands of questions have been asked and are all stored here on the forums. Right above that orange navigation bar is the search bar, try searching for what you are experiencing. If there is a thread but it doesn't answer your question, check the date, if it is several weeks since the last reply it would be better to name a new thread then resurrect the dead thread.
Also before posting collect as much information about your card as possible. Get the model number off of the card/device itself and also the inkstamp number (found on an inkstamp or silkscreen on the non-chip side of the card) if you have a sound card. Please note that if you have a card that was preinstalled in your computer by the manufacturer or you bought the card in a brown box or static bag that it is most likely an OEM card. In cases like these it may be best to contact the retailer or the manufacturer (don't forget to check their forums if they have them) for support as the cards can be very different from the retail versions.
    Lost CD, Need Drivers:
Standalone drivers are available for many of our sound cards and devices on our website. The best way to check is to go to Support/Downloads and select your product from the list and click next. Then you select your Operating System from the drop box (keep the other options on their defaults) and click go. The very first section should be the driver listings. Just because a driver says that it is an update, doesn't mean that it isn't a standalone driver. The best way to check is to click on the details button and read the requirements section. If it doesn't say that it requires previous drivers then it is most likely stand alone and is worth installing. These standalone drivers usually include a configuration utility called "CTpanel.exe" that a quick search of your drive after install will locate. You can use this to set the card up.
If your card does not list standalone drivers then you will want to contact support to obtain an install CD.
If your card is OEM, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your system or the retailer you purchased it from for the install CD. There can be major differences between retail and OEM models and the retailer or manufacturer are provided with drivers specific to the card they are distributing.
    Standard Troubleshooting:
If you are going to ask a question, there are a few standard troubleshooting steps that are suggested for almost any problem. You should really check them out before posting a question as it can save you a lot of time waiting on replies.
First off, try a cleansweep and reinstall of your card. Often all that the card needs is a fresh start. The steps for this are found in these Knowledgebase articles:
Uninstalling Sound Blaster Drivers and Applications(Windows Vista)
    Uninstalling Creative Disc Detector
    Uninstalling Sound Blaster PCI Cards
Uninstalling PCMCIA Sound Blaster Devices in Windows XP
Uninstalling ExpressCard Sound Blaster Devices in Windows XP
If that doesn't work, not all is lost. There are many standard troubleshooting steps that are used for almost all problems. Fortunately we have a separate Kbase article that covers these steps. It even has suggestions for specific problems. Here is that link:
    http://support.creative.com/kb/showa....aspx?sid=2538
Popping Clicking, Hissing, and Other Sound anomalies:
Perhaps your question is about a popping, clicking, or hissing sound that your card seems to be generating. If so, then this article is for you. The sound optimization article:
    http://support.creative.com/kb/showa...aspx?sid=46913
    If Nothing Above Works:
One last thing to try would be to clean boot your version of Windows. Perhaps an application is getting in the way of the card working correctly. Try it and see if the card works when clean booting into Windows. If so then something that is starting up is interfering with the card.

Some name brand systems shipped with a special Live! Value card that was made to work with digital speakers. If you system shipped with a Live! Value and you have digital speakers you will need to use drivers provided by your system manufacturer. If you use the drivers on the Creative website your card will no longer work with your digital speakers.
If you have a set of Boston Acoustic digital speakers that came with your system and they are not working with your sound card, make sure you have it connected to the digital out on the card. Also make sure that the digital out is enabled.

If none of this helps, then it is probably time to go ahead and post your question. Make sure to let everyone know what you have already tried from this article, otherwise you may get responses suggesting you try them again.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies - 'God [darn] it, you've got to be kind."

There's a small discussion on the Asus forums about this issue here:
    http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20052602425373&board_id=&model=A8V&pa ge=&SLanguage=en-us
I'm extremely certain this has nothing to do with Creative. I recently tried a Turtle Beach Riviera 5. sound card in my Asus A8V board with the same poor result. Onboard sound works fine as long as you remove the PCI card. Oddly, the four sound cards I've tried (three by Creative) work fine on the same MB using Windows 98. Only Windows XP has this issue, but since it works fine if you restart/wake up from standby/or hit F0 after entering the BIOS, it's obviously directly related to the BIOS.
Since this problem has gone on for so long with no acknowledgment from Asus, I'm not very hopeful this will ever get fixed. I've considered trying an M-Audio Revolution 5. and see if that works, but I know it's a long shot. I'm also not sure if I want to risk close to $00 on a sound card that I figure has a 0% chance of working.
(If ANYONE out there in the world has a sound card that works with games on an Asus A8V - please, please, pretty please post in this forum so we can all go out and get it!)
It absolutely amazes me that a problem this significant slipped by Asus during their supposed "4,000 dedicated man hours" of testing!

  • FAQ Comment on Audigy 2 Platinum Solution ID 1

First, I didn't see where else to put this. So...
I was experiencing noise and hiss problems with my 2400+, Audigy 2 Platinum card. Every time I moved the cursor, especially when editing sound files on on IE, there was a high pitched squeal which accompanied mouse movement. The FAQ suggested to completely uninstall the board, software, and drivers. With a bit of "hmm, can't do that and the like" the FAQ corrected the problem.
The FAQ however needs a bit of updating under the XP cleansweep:
. Step 6: The A2P has the setup.exe, same as the X-Fi card, but what it does not have is the Creative Driver Utility Update. Perhaps this is under a driver update but trying to make sense out of those is difficult.
2 Selecting the "Rate Solution" is limited to 300 characters even though you can type more. So I guess this is the right place for FAQ comments.
    Thanks for the help.

Seems that nobody else has had this problem yet. In the meantime i have found out that just one channel is full of noise. Even under Ubuntu i have this noise so it's definitely the hardware. Must be something damaged indeed. the point is that i would like to know how can i avoid to happen this once again. In the last 25 years i am dealing with RCA Audio i connected the devices always not powering them off before. Seems that the problem is here. It could have shortcutted something inside the I/O box.
