Faulty or damaged router

When I plug my PC into the modem directly, I can get 4-6M download and about 400K upload, BUT when I plug the modem into the WRT54G router & plug in the 2-3 PC's, my download is still about 4-6M but my UPLOAD drops to 20-40K. I also have a BEFSR41 and the same thing happens. I have talked to the ISP till I'm blue in the face. Do I have bad, damaged, or faulty equipment? How can I tell?

actually, the rtr will change the upload and download speed on the connection...the reason, the rtr divides the bandwidth of your ISP..but if the decrease of the speed is way too low then you can start to having an upgrade! if you want, set priority on the rtr... the rtr can set a pc as the priority! if your most important pc is the priority then the rtr will focus its connection to the prioritized pc... another benefit is that the rtr will respond faster on the priority pc...

  • C6300BD-202 - DHCP Reservations Faulty on this router!

It simply does not give out the right IP to reservation as seen in the screenshot. Firmware update urgently needed. Also, on basic view the blue boxes showing the connected device info disappears after about 10 seconds.

What frustrates me is I have given black and white evidence with the screen capture in the initial post proving the DHCP reservations are not being given out, simply ignored. You can imagine the havoc this causes trying to set up a home network. Its also kinda crappy that it doesn't show the netbios/dns names against the DHCP leases. My older Netgear R6300 does this. Here is my modem info, firmware etc:  Standard Specification CompliantEuroDOCSIS 3.0 and DOCSIS 3.0Hardware VersionC6300BD-202Software Version5510_V10106Software Version(Linux)2.6.30.V1.01.06Cable MAC Address6c:b0:ce:5f:2b:98Device MAC Address6c:b0:ce:5f:2b:99Cable Modem Serial Number3TH347WP032ABCM certificateInstalled

I've installed a new Belkin wireless router. I get connected with a PC laptop but my PB G4 recognized the new network but give me error message when it tried to connect to network. I had no problems with the old (but faulty) Netgear wireless router.
Anyone had similar problems and/or solutions?

  • Router not detected

I need help.  The software doesn't detect the router.  I know I've followed all directions correctly; I've reset the router and my computer several times.  It always gets to 9% when it's detecting the router, then it says "router not detected.  Make sure all cables are plugged in correctly."  All my cables are plugged in correctly.  I am so frustrated.  My cable internet company is not helpful because the router is not their product.  I wonder is something is faulty with my router.

I have the same problem and have exhausted all strategies for successfully having the Linksys Easylink Advisor detect my brand new WRT300N wireless router.
I  have my A+, Network+ and MCSA certifications, so I don't think you are doing anything wrong, Kristen.
The Web interface works (http://192.168.1.1/) and the router is active and working.
Their little buggy app doesn't detect the router, period.  It did for a month or so and then stopped.  I have the latest firmware installed and the app phones home to update itself.  I do not know at what point it stopped working.  Sure is annoying and a waste of our time.

  • Foot stand not provided with my replacement WRT-350N - need help with Cisco contact

    Hi!
I am starting to feel like Michael Douglas in the movie Falling Down and need some help.
    Story:
I finally sent in my faulty WRT-350N router and when I got the replacement everything but the plastic foot stand was included. I want to have my router standing up to save desk space but now I have no foot.
"OK, should not be hard to get Linksys to send me the missing foot stand" was my thought. Now I have called the RMA line and also emailed them and I get a similar answer like Michael Douglas got with a smile
I keep hearing that I cannot get the part since it is not on the product's content list. Like that is *my* problem. I just want the part and do not care whether it is on a list or not. It is the part on top of the router in the picture. I even asked the Linksys representative to Google a bit for WRT-350N and there are foot stands on almost all pictures and it is definitely included in the box. I was told I could go nowhere else for help either with this. I really doubt that but fail to find a channel to Linksys that may be able to help.
If some Linksys representative sees this please help me!
    Thanks, Niklas

Now it should be working. To moderators, this does not hold any personal info but just want to show the quite long text to read through for the RMA:
Thank you for contacting Linksys Customer Service Department. First of all, we would like to inform you that, if your item has been purchased less than 2 years ago, you have the possibility of replacing it through the place of purchase.

You will have to print three copies of that label. The first copy you are going to stick it in the outside of the box, the second one you are going to join it in the inside of the box and the last one is a copy for you as assurance. Otherwise, warranty replacement will not be possible to be performed. All other accessories shipped that did not come in the original box may not be returned. Moreover, it is important to remember that you do not have to ship the original box. Also, include on the shipping box a copy of the proof of purchase, not the original.

If you have further questions do not hesitate to call us or replying to this e-mail. Our lines are open from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. We recommend our customers to have the case id# handy.

  • E1200 V2 upgraded to OS 10.8.2, Cisco Connect unsupported OS, also update firmware?

I purchased myu E1200 Jan 2012. Have been intermittent loss of connection & not sure whether it is old cable modem or router or? ISP came out & checked & changed some cable fittings said looked ok, but could be my old modem. (I'm getting ready to move out of area so don't want to buy a new modem now). But also a lot of my neighbors w Cox report intermittent loss of connection.
I will get messages saying I'm not connected to internet. Usually if i go up & turn off wireless & then turn it back on, it will search & find my router.  Frequently though I notice that when I check it has switched to my guest rather than primary for some reason.
I was having some of this before I even went to wifi a yr ago.
Just upgraded to Mountain Lion a couple weeks ago or so. Last night computer had a panic. I received advice to make sure all software as well as router firmware up to date. Found & updated MacBookPro Firmware update. Backed up.
Opened CiscoConnect & got message unsupported Operating System.
Reading about upgrading firmware, saw warnings about doing it hard wired or it could permanently damage router. Because of the intermittent connectivity problems & the warning, I think I would be safest to do this  manually by downloading it 1st & then updating the firmware from the download.
I see that instructions say to determine Firmware version. & it also says it will ask for router IP address. I'm guessing all that was in Cisco Connect. I know it has my passwords, but now I can't get to it. It also says I can use the web set up page to get the current firmware version. For updates (but it says for pc) it shows 8/2011 & 8/2012. Since mine was purchased in 1/2012 & unless it self updated, I'm guessing it is running the 8/2011 firmware. But just noticed in the User Guide it says that when I run Cisco Connect it checks for updates & installs them.  But that's kind of interesting w all the warnings about running it w a wired connection to make sure no interruptions.  Not sure how I have it set up, but I usually set software updates to prompt me so I can control when they actually run.
Once I have gotten that, will I be able to manually download the appropriate firmware version? Or if I click on that, will that start a set up or update process?
If I download Cisco Connect, will it update the already installed version, keeping all my existing info?  & then will that be compatible w Mountain Lion & then show me whether the firmware needs to be updated?
    Kathi

But anyway, I can't even open the old version!!! I just get a message about unsupported OS! So kind of hard to uninstall if I can't open it.
& for some reason when I was installing Mountain Lion, upgrading from Snow Leopard it found an old version of Parallels which I knew was not compatible.  Didn't even think about this.
Its sort of working but something is not working very well. I sure wish I hadn't listened to those who said to save the $ & not get the Apple Airport Express. Their stuff works & its not hard to set up like this!
    This is SO LAME!!!
& Where is lists the info, I have so far found NO INFO about updating. I usually have my software set to notify me so I control when it updates. & I think the last times I was in Cisco Connect it was under pressure just trying to get the router working again.
Right now I feel like throwing it at something.
Well, I have twice tried to download from the list for my model & when I click on the set up icon I get a message that "Setup" is damaged and can't be opened. You shold eject the disk image." But when I click for more info it says:
The app has been modified or damaged
The app’s code does not match the original code that was signed. The app has been modfied, or it may be broken or corrupted or have been tampered with. If you feel that an app has been damaged or tampered with, you should delete it by dragging it to the Trash.

  • How many times do you have to tell the call centre...

I have had excellent service from BT with a line speed of some 7.5 to almost 9 meg download and around 1 meg upload.
Recently my download speed slowed dramatically to 400k BUT the upload speed stayed the same.
When I could no longer use iplayer Utube or any TV on demand I tried to call the fault reporting.
First on Friday I spent almost an hour trying everything wireless change channels - Socket unplug the house and go to the main ( carrying my PC and router up two flights of stairs)
I eventually was put to a supervisor who said he understood that its a problem with the exchange and promised to do something.
Friday passed along with Saturday Sunday and Monday, repeated speed tests show aprox 400K download both on BT system and also on external speed checks. Interogating my router for DSL speed also confirmed upload 1 meg and download 400k.
Tuesday - rang back and had all the same questions are you on wireless? Expecting this I had already changed to wired.
Next question back to main sockets vice extensions, again, Having explained the supervisor from Friday already checked this and was going to get it fixed - I had to refuse to move my setup upstairs again since I had already done it twice on Friday.
Has there been a storm? of course UK has storms BUT I tried to explain that if the line is noisy or wet both uplink and downlink normally fade together.
I asked what progress had been made ? They did not seem to have any update and limited information - SURELY BT take notes and put them on the system?
Eventually I had another supervisor - after explaining everything he conceeded that the first supervisor on Friday did nothing.  He then again asked to recheck the line and for the 4th time got the same results as me 400k down 1 meg up. He also tried to ask about wireless which I had eliminated and router - OH mine is a belkin not BT hub so that caused consternation. He after what seemed ages went away to test the line again and the phone of course dropped out as it will if your testing. He never rang back either.
In order not to have more of the same I connected the BT home hub supplied by BT and set it up and tested the speed - Guess what the speed was identical on the BT hub as my Belkin but at least they cant blame that.
Being totally frustrated I tried again and got another operator - and yes they wanted mainly to talk about my wireless being the problem I quickly explained its wired which kind of threw them - yes your right the main socket issue came up again but seriously Im not lugging all that kit upstairs again when Ive already done it. The inevitable test the line took place and yet again for the 4th time the results were identical - max 400k download ( 1 meg up).
After having to become very forceful this person agreed that OK I had done all the tests ( several times). When I asked what was on the system for the fault and who dealt with it last time - nothing.
They agreed to send me an email which I have got and also this time to reset my profile? What profile and why was it not set before?  I have now been told my speed will increase over 48 hours - currently its not yet changed!
I expect that I will probably have to go through all this again, why dont they write down whats been done so you dont have to what a waste of all our times.
Well as you may tell Im not terribly happy with this and dont have confidence that it will get fixed - which means its probably going to be bad over christmas - I dont normally write to furums and having been an engineer all my life and pretty good with PC's I found the whole experience very frustrating. Anyone know what changing the profile may do and does it really take 48 hours?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Latest no speed change after 24 hours not one tiny bit - so much for it increasing gradually to the old maximum.
    Stats
BT speed check gave me Downstream 468  IP Profile 506
    Upstream 929 IP Profile 1135.
Much the same as I have got for the past week and also get on either router and still get after a supposed profile reset.
Checks on mybroadbandspeed.co.uk which I have been keeping for 12 months show its down from more than 7 meg to 400k.
Anyone know why the DSL link shows a better uplink than downlink - Faulty DSLAM ?

  • My ipod is recognized in windows but not in itunes. I ran the troubleshooter and followed all of the steps to fix it....itunes still does not recognize my ipod.  Anyone know how to fix this?

My ipod is recognized in windows but not in itunes. It shows up in devices and gives me the ok to eject prompt, so I know that the connection is good. I ran the troubleshooter and did all the recommended fixes.  Hours and hours later, I still have the same problem. I uninstalled itunes and all its folders, restarted the apple device services and changed the drive letter. Checked my security settings and everything else I can think of. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Did you remove all Apple related software including QuickTime, Safari, Software Update utility for Windows, etc using the exact instructions in this Apple support document?
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port and not a USB or similar?  Have you tried different cables to help rule out a faulty or damaged cable?
Does it connect to iTunes okay on another PC or Mac?

  • My iPod nano 6th gen is not recognised by my computer or itunes, but still charges?

My laptop recently came back from repairs and  wiped everything off of it, so I have had to reinstall everything again. The only way I have got my music is on my ipod, so I cant lose any of the music stored on the ipod.
I have tried everything to connect it to my laptop, but it just wont connect.
I have followed all instructions from other people who have had the same problem, but nothing works. I have tried uninstalling itunes, where I delete everything and reinstall it. I have tried uninstalling all my usb ports and reinstalling them. I have tried to download apple usb driver, but it didn't work. I have reset my ipod many times - but nothing works! My computer just wont show my ipod, but it still charges it.

And you have a tried a different USB cable to verify that the current cable is not faulty or damaged? If so, that points to a hardware issue with the Nano, likely its dock connector port. Look for signs of damaged/bent/corroded pins or debris that could be blocking a proper connection.

  • Ipod Nano2 is not recognized by PC/itunes.  After restarting the iPod and switch to disk mode "ok to disconnect" appears instead on "do not disconnect".

Can nayone help.  thank you in advance.

So even in Disk Mode the iPod is not recognized by your PC or iTunes software?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port?  Have you tried a different USB sync cable to verify that your current cable isn't faulty or damaged?
I assume you are using the latest version of iTunes correct?

  • Iphone 3GS gets -1 error on iOS 6.0.1 update??

    Hello everyone!
I have a iphone 3GS (fully legit, no jailbreaks, no funny business) and decided to upgrade to iOS 6.0.1 (or the lastest version of 6). Everything went fine and dandy until the update reached the "restoring firmware on the iPhone" stage... Both the itunes and the iphone's progress bars were full and stood there being full for over 15 minutes, until the software decided to present me with an error box!
I got a -1 error and the description was that my hardware was faulty or damaged (or something). That came as a surprise to me, since my hardware was fine just before I started this nonsense... So, I surfed the web, looked at forum posts, tried a couple of things (tinyUmbrella, different OS) and so far no luck, now my phone is stuck on a recovery cycle and everytime I get the same error.
    I have tried:
    -Updating iTunes
    -Rebooting
    -Different OS
-TinyUmbrella (to force out of recovery)
    -Restarting the phone on DFU
    -Restarting the phone without DFU
-Doing the update over and over
-Checked for any "third-party" software that might offend iTunes (nothing, all pure and proper for OSX so far)
    Nothing worked/improved the situation.
    I'm tempted to try:
-Banging the phone against the wall
    -Screaming at it
-Putting it away forever and just use my Nexus S full-time
    -Calling a Vodoo Doctor
    -Calling a Wiccan
    -Calling the Ghostbusters
Most of these would ease my pain for sure! If only android had a nifty app to follow the stock market and a handy-dandy "notes" app...oh wait...
...I guess stunts like this might explain why the market share just won't grow now won't they Apple?? I mean common, this takes the concept of "full system upgrade" a bit too far!
Seriously now, at this point I'm considering to take this hunk of not-so-good apple hardware to my local "handy-fixEverything-techGuy" or even to an Apple Store to ask a quote for a hardware repair...Or just to make a big fuss about how the phone was working well before this very nice system update and now it's a paperweight with touchscreen! However I fear that it will be rather pointless, since I'm not willing to pay more than $50 to get whatever this might have broken fixed, and they will ask me for more than that. I might give it a shot anyway...
So, any ideas? Did overlook any potential solution or cause for my problem?
All input is welcome and thanks in advance for reading.

I believe that all iPhones, purchased in Egypt, from official sources, are sold as carrier locked. So, your phone was hacked by someone so you could use it in Germany. Sorry, but that's what happens to hacked iPhones.
No one here can help you, nor can/will Apple, and since none of the carriers in Egypt offer official unlocking, your choices are not good.

  • How can I fix: problem when making or receiving calls I must be on speaker, otherwise the person on the other end can't heAr me

When making or receiving phone calls I have to be on speaker for the other person to hear me. What can I do to fix this

Had the same problem when my dock connector of the iphone got wet. The phone thought that it was docked the whole time so the mic and speaker didn't work. The iPhone actually has 2 microphones. One is at the bottom by the dock connector (which is used for normal calls), and the other is a tiny whole at the top by the headphone jack, which is used for speakerphone. I would say that either the bottom mic needs replacing, or the dock connection is faulty or damaged and it is not able to use the bottom mic.
Best bet would be to get it to Apple who will normally fix this kind of thing without fuss. Hope that helps.

  • Issue with HDMI adapter of N8 (Please help)

    Okay here's the thing.
I just bought a Nokia N8 yesterday and it works great so far but there's only 1 problem.
I tried to connect a standard HDMI cable (the one I got when I bought a Sony TV) to the HDMI adapter provided with the N8. However, the standard HDMI cable just won't fit in to the adapter.
Am I using the wrong HDMI cable? Anyone knows what's the problem? Please help me
    THANKS

If you've opened the small HDMI cover on the end of the phone, and the supplied cable fits in the port, then you are using the correct cable, if the cable from your TV will not fit in the Normal sizws female end of the HDMI adaptor, then one of them os faulty or damaged, as a stendard |HDMI cable fits easily enouch into the cable provided in the box by Nokia !

So I clicked restore and the ipod restored and then appeared on itunes with the same message. Telling me to restore. I literally did this like 10-15 times and it continued to say the same thing. The ipod works once you take it off the computer. The menu is fully functional and nothing is altered but since there is no music on the ipod because of the restoration process. I have to connect it to the computer to add music but then that is when Itunes again says your ipod has been corrupted. Any Help? Thank You

My iPod classic did the same thing, and I freaked out for the longest time, even went to BestBuy for questions who referred me here. Then I did the basic "re-set" (NOT restore!) of the iPod and it's been working fine since (fingers crossed). Hitting restore (as you found out) wipes out all of the songs/photos/videos/etc. I had to do that previously when my iPod wiped out its files on its own (another topic altogether...).
The steps to the basic re-set are found in the FAQ troubleshooting support page. I only needed to follow the first two:
    1. Toggle the "hold" button on and off. You will see a little lock appear in the upper right hand corner beside the clock.
    2. Re-set your iPod by simultaneously holding down the Menu and the Select button (center button) until the silver apple appears. A progress bar will also appear and run across the screen (on iPod classics at least).
    Further suggestions:
    3. Always make sure your have the latest iPod software updates and iTunes updates (yeah, it's a pain in the butt as iTunes seems to get a new update everytime you connect to the 'net...). However, the latest versions of iTunes have a screen that tells you if your iPod software is up-to-date.
    4. Make sure your USB port connections are "tight." A loose cable will make it look like the iPod has been disconnected improperly and cause all kinds of recognition problems. Also a faulty or damaged cable (say caused by a family pet who likes to chew wires) may cause recognition problems.
    5. The Geek Squad at Best Buy also suggested to me to reinstall the latest update of iTunes even if you've reset your iPod.
PS: It has taken almost 3 weeks to reload the songs that were on my iPod before its crash. I always suggest making a backup of your iTunes library. I periodically remove files from the iTunes library on my hard drive and move them to an external drive.

  • Mainstage crashes with certain memory upgrade that work with other programs

I updated my memory from 2G to 4 but selected a cheaper brand that had good feedback. It works fine with all the programs but Mainstage seems to need a certain quality memory as the program crashed all the time after several minutes or so of playing, but oddly, the program completely disappeared from my screen when it crashed with the rest of the computer (a Macbook Pro 2.2) working fine. When I put the old memory back (2Gig) in it only crashed when the memory was full as it fills up continually, bit by bit, while you are playing. Anyway, I thought I would mention this in case someone has the same problem with a more 'value' memory. I am RMAing it and getting a better brand. This originally did this in Leopard but downgrading to Tiger I found the same problem. I am also using a Firewire rack, sound card. RME Fireface 800 that makes the instruments sound phenominal, I might say though may be consider overkill.

I've used a number of budget Ram sticks in my day, and have never heard of Ram that is working properly but can't handle a load that another stick of the same type and capacity could handle. I do know that you're supposed to put 'matched pairs' into those MBP's in order to get the highest performance. If anyone reading this has more insight on the particular question, (ie. can certain brands of Ram not perform the same as other brands, excluding sticks that are faulty or damaged), I'd love to hear.
I'm glad you're up and running, and I hope it wasn't the Ram since the Mainstage update seems to have alleviated the problem for you. Rember is the same test as Memtest, but with Memtest you boot up from the console, so it can check every sector of the Ram. Rember runs while you're running OSX so parts of the Ram can't be tested since it's being used by the OS.
