FCP allows deletion of file in browser that is used in a sequence

I have noticed that a file can be deleted from the browser and still be connected to a clip in the timeline. I would have thought that attempting to delete a file from the browser when it is used in the timeline would have provoked a message saying that the file can not be deleted because it is used in the timeline. That's how ProTools works in the analogous situation, and that's how I think FCP ought to work. Isn't the browser supposed to show all the assets used in a project? What I have discovered proves that that is not the case.
Have I discovered a bug or is this just a feature of FCP?

It's actually a feature. When you put a clip from the browser in a sequence, it's no longer the browser clip... it's a sequence clip which references the same media.
You can actually drag a clip from a hard drive directly to a sequence as well, and it won't be in the browser...
In that case the browser does not necessarily list all the assets. I'm glad to know that!

It's likely the "FBI Moneypak browser hijack" which works by hijacking Javascript in the web browser so you can't escapte.
What you do is press command tab to get to the Finder, then from the Apple Menu select > Force Quit on Chrome.
Apple menu > System Preferences > General >
Uncheck “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps“
Apple Menu select > Shutdown, restart and don't start up Chrome.
Use Safari to find out how to disable loading of previous web pages in Chrome ( I don't use it )
Once Chrome loads, then Reset it's caches etc.

Unable to delete data files from my Ipod if used as data storage...

Hello everybody
I bought months ago an Ipod Nano 8GB. I've got an issue when i use it as disk storage i'm not able to sort out. I've checked all the topics but i cannot find any solution.
Example: I use the Ipod with the option "Manually manage music and videos". I put audio and video files on my Ipod through Itunes, then i put also some files on my Ipod as normal data files through my Mac Finder (Easy, i drag VLC, JPG files etc. from folders to my Ipod). The Ipod/Itunes summary page shows (Correctly) the capacity column colored in blue (Audio), video (Purple) and orange (Data). No probs when i transfer data files to another computer.
Problem: when i delete the data files from my Ipod (Through finder) the orange column doesn't disappear (I have no problems if i delete audio/video files via Itunes) and although i've actually deleted all the files if i try to add some other data or videos/music files to my Ipod, Itunes says that there is no space available in my device. It's very strange, i check and double check all the options but eventually i have to restore my Ipod all the times and (Pretty annoying) add all my files again.
It seems that although i sent my files to the trash bin, Itunes (Fully updated) doesn't recognize the change.
It'd be great if someone can help me out as it's very important for me to be able to use my Ipod as disk storage, thanks a lot!

Can't Delete A File (because it is in use)

I'm in the process of transferring a bunch of files from my iMac to an external HD. Last night, in the middle of transferring files, my computer suddenly and without warning shut off (a whole 'nother issue). The file transfer did not complete and I now have a grayed-out file folder that cannot be opened. When I try to drag it to the trashcan, or even right-click and select "Move to Trash", I get the following error: "The operation can’t be completed because the item “DSC_5594-Edit.psd” is in use." I've searched the Web for a solution but haven't come across anything that works. I've tried rebooting in normal mode, rebooting in safe mode, used " rm -rf " command in Terminal, and even downloaded "What's Keeping Me?" to find the process using the file, but the app wasn't able to find the file.
I'm hoping that somebody here will be able to help me with this perplexing situation before I pull out what little hair I have left!

For the last 5 years (and in IPCC3.x/4.x,UCCX/5.x/7.x) I've used the same basic subflow to read a XML document that contains holiday dates where the queue should be closed. I've re-used this script on 20+ client installs and it's always worked. The structure of the script allows you to pass the path and filename of the XML document as parameters to the subflow. (The document is in the repository)
I loaded this script in UCCX 8.0.2 recently and it crashed with a Java.IO error. It looked like it was trying to read the file system directly and not the repository. (In the Linux appliance model this kind of makes sense but why is the step trying to read the file system directly?)
So I open a TAC case (SR# 615243125) and TAC tells me that the method of using the Create File Document step is not supported anymore and that I should specify the filename directly in the Create XML Document step
The problem that I see (aside from having to edit all my scripts that use XML files) is that the Create XML Document step is looking for the input to be a type DOCUMENT and not a type STRING. This seems to imply that I have to hardcode the document in each script that I deploy for a customer. When it was a string it was easy to construct the full file path from parameters and pass to the subflow.

#1 Am I missing something here?
#2 Do you assume that you'll be able to load a script that worked fine in UCCX 7 into UCCX 8 and that it should completely function when you're doing everything according to the step reference documentation.
#3 Cisco didn’t document this in any way that I can find.
#4 How can you use the Create XML Document step in a fashion that would let you construct the path of the file and the filename previously in the script so you could pass it to a subflow ? It would seem this functionality has been killed in UCCX 8

You are mixing two different issues together here.
The Create File Document step is indeed not needed or supported for creating an XML document. That is why there is a unique step; to trigger XML parsing within the MIVR subsystem.
Accessing the file system is restricted to a single folder within the VOS model (i.e. 8.0+). This folder is not backed up, replicated, or cleaned up automatically. It was intended to give developers some FS access as a temporary swap location only.

You're right, I guess, on the Create File vs. XML Document step. AFAIK Cisco never wrote a notice into the Step Reference Guide explicitly stating that you cannot use the Create File Document although the documentation seemed pretty clear to me without it. File system restrictions are documented in the 8.0 release notes.

No it hasn't; just concatinate a string to build the Source Document parameter the step needs. Example: "DOC[" + myFilePath + "]"

Delete a column froma table that is used in multiple interfaces

Is there a way to delete a column from a table where the table is being used in an interface ? The only way I could find so far was to delete the interface, delete the column then recreate the interface.
Otherwise deleting warns that the object is referred to by another object and lists the interfaces.
unfortunately the table in question is being referred to in multiple interfaces, so I'd prefer not to have to recreate all of them.

You can delete all the mappings (source an target) which refer to this column and then physically delete the column.
It's long but maybe better than dropping the whole interfaces using this column.

Change browser that hyperlinks use

i am on linux peppermint and chromium will not run anymore as a browser have tried reinstalling (dont want to reinstall all software on netbook ) and now use chrome however any links in emails want to use chromium - how do i change this?

Links in Thunderbird should open in your system's default browser. I'm not familiar with how to set the default browser on Linux, but usually each browser has a button to make itself the default, so you might be able to find that in Chrome's settings. Or check Google's help pages.

FCP Deleting Render Files

I'm currently running the latest version of FCP (7.0.1). However, it appears that whenever I close/quit FCP, it deletes all my recent render files. Is there some type of setting or known bug that would cause FCP to delete render files?

Hi Tom,
I've returned to this project, and I'm still having similar problems - once I've tried to export a sequence, many (but definitely not all) of the renders are lost on export, or if the export was cancelled.
I've been careful to ensure that every option is enabled for the "Render All", and we've reloaded the FCS 3 software, but we're still editing from the same original projects (one project per artist for a batch of artists that we're making DVDs for).
I'd love to hear any more ideas or suggestions.

You imply that your duplicates are unchecked. You can create a playlist containing unchecked tracks. This would allow easy manual deletion.
You need two playlists.
First create a smart playlist called "checked" containing checked items:
Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Match only checked items"
Live updating checked
Next create a playlist with the following rule:
Playlist is not checked.
Match only checked items not checked.
Live updating checked
This second playlist should have all your unchecked tracks in it.
Then you can use shift del to delete the tracks from you library.

1) You can't execute a batch without having a shell.
2) It's totally stupid to run a one-line batch file from system.exec.
3) It's also totally stupid to delete a file using Runtime altogether.

Dropbox is a helpful for a lot of this and the File Manger Pro will integrate the file management there, so it's worth the 4.99 for that option too, it also integrates with the iCloud and other Cloud option you may have.
