FCPX doesn't honour colour tags

In trying to get around the gamma issues in Quicktime, I've been using tools like JES Extensifier to modify the 'gama' and 'nclc' tags. I was happy to find out that Quicktime files now look correct when set to the same gamma setting that they were created in, but unfortunately FCPX isn't honouring these changes. The only ones it seems to honour are the ones associated with "SD" and "HD". Anyone else have this behaviour or have a way of getting around it? This is somewhat related to my other post where the footage gets completely ruined with the "RGB" colorspace setting.

Never mind. In what is now becoming uncommonly easy with Apple, the solution was simple. Actually, I found two solutions.
1) Go to iTunes, find the movies in question. Enable the 'Description' column, and voila! A list of all the movies that FCPX "helped" you with. Simply highlight the entry in the description field, delete it, and that's it. It may take a restart of iTunes and/or AppleTV, but the offending descriptions are now gone from Apple TV.
2) Found a nice little app called 'Subler'. Light, well-designed, and worked as advertised. Actually, it does a lot of other metadata editing if you need, but for me, the iTunes solution took care of it.
Thanks Apple, more and more reasons I regret spending $300(!) on this 'professional' product.

  • How to search for coloured tags ?

Hi all, I have often been amazed by the speed and accuracy of Searching for Files on my MacBookPro.
As powerful as this SEARCH facility is, recently I wanted to search for a file that I knew had a RED tag assigned to it.
I couldnt find how to do that, it sounds so simple, but, as far as I can see, it cannot be done !!!
I would have thought that it should be easy to do, it is quite an important and useful thing to do, to be able to add coloured TAGS to files, so why can't I search for them, by colour ?
Please. I dont doubt that someone, somewhere knows how to do it, if so please let me know, so I can do it as well.  Thanks
    Tim

If you search in Finder, you can search for a tag in the search field.
You can also select a Tag from the Sidebar and it will list all files with that tag.
You can Arrange by Tags, too.
It doesn't appear that Tags are a search criteria in the Spotlight menu, though.

  • Something in 10.4.6 doesn't honour DNS case insensitivity

Something in MacOS 10.4.6 Server doesn't honour DNS case insensitivity, and this is preventing users from logging into MacOS 10 clients of a 10.4.6 server.
Is there an update to 10.4.6 to fix this yet?
Does Apple plan on releasing a fix? I sure hope so since we seem to be screwed without a fix to this problem. If the answer is "fix your DNS" then we're really screwed since there's nothing technically wrong with our DNS data.
Hey Apple, help us to not be screwed by your 10.4.6 upgrade.
    Thanks.
by night, sysadmin by day Mac OS X (10.4.6) users can't connect to server after 10.4.6 update

You don't need to run a DNS server on your Mac OS X Server, but you really should have working reverse DNS.
Any server in your network can perform this task. If you don't have a local DNS server then you can just fire up the built-in DNS server - a minimal configuration is all you need.

  • Mathematica Doesn't Quite Obey Tag Rule in DWM

I used the xprop command given here to identify Mathematica, as follows:
    xprop |awk '
    /^WM_CLASS/{sub(/.* =/, "instance:"); sub(/,/, "\nclass:"); print}
    /^WM_NAME/{sub(/.* =/, "title:"); print}'
    title: "Untitled-1"
    instance: "XMathematica"
I then assigned Mathematica to tag 3, with this line in my config.h:
    { NULL, "XMathematica", NULL, 1 << 2, False },
But Mathematica only opens in tag 3 if I restart dwm (it's in a while loop, so I restart it using the script given in the dwm article at the Archwiki). Otherwise, it opens in the current tag. No other program doesn't follow my tag rules. Does anyone else have similar issue, or have an idea what could be up?
I'm running dwm 5.5, with the bstack, pertag, bstack.horiz, fibonacci, cellwriter, pango, tilemovemouse, and monocole patches.

  • Edit region teal colour tag "editableregion" is messing up layout.

Hi I have developed a Photoshop layout.
I carved up vertical menu bar (6 options) and made three different buttons for different states. up down pressed
    so I can calculate 6 x button height (52) and 138 width.
    So i have an area of   312 x 138
So I create a slice of this size.
    So i save for web
Now when in dreamweaver i create template ..
Now for the navigation area of size  312 x 138  i create a div and then i insert a editable region.
I get a bulky teal coloured tag at top
Finally i create my navigation bar and insert 6 images. ... but the bottom is being push by what seems to be the height of the bulky tag.
    Any suggestions please

Sure, you can turn off the invisible items, and turn them back on when you need them. Go to View > Visual Aids > Invisible Elements and turn them off.
They only mess up the Design View, they should not be messing up your actual Live View or Browser View.

  • FCPX importing canon t3i, FCPX doesn't recognize the structure?

I'm inserting my card from my new canon t3i, FCPX doesn't recognize the card?

    I have an idea.
Create a folder on you desk top. Give it a name that ties it to images and video you shot using the t3i plus the date of the shoot. Connect your USB to your camera. Open Image capture. Turn t3i on. You should be able to transfer both images and video to the folder on your desktop via image capture. Check the folder to make sure your images and videos are there. Then turn off your camera. (If you get a camera image on your desktop, you do not need to use image capture.) Open F.C.P.X. Under file-Import-file, then under import files-look for your Desktop-then the folder with with stills & video-open folder-then highlight the video files, then import.
I've been doing this, using flash memory cards, in dual mode cameras. It has worked for me with out a problem.
Remember, this is just an idea.
    Hope it works for you.

  • Layer colour tagging bug

If I assign a colour to a layer and then change the layer to a Smart Object the colour tag is lost.
    1) Open image
    2) Duplicate (Ctrl+J) Background to create a Layer (Layer 1)
    3) Right-click on the Layer 1 'Eye' icon and choose a colour (Red)
    4) Right-click on Layer 1 and choose " Convert to Smart Object
    5) The Red colour that was assigned in step 3 will now disappear.
Expected Result: Layers that have been assigned a colour should keep that colour even when converted to a Smart Object.

That might be what's going on behind the scenes. But I'm not sure most users will understand why adding a colour tag to a layer cannot be maintained when all they're doing is choosing to apply a layer option.
In my case I was organizing 20 small images on the canvas and found the colour tags very useful in that I could view and align/distribute various groups as per their assigned colour. I then decided that resizing was needed so I changed them all to SO's and that's when all the work I did assigning colours was lost. If the colour tag is being offered as a layer organization feature then it should be maintained when a common layer operation is performed.
Your explanation sounds as if converting a layer to a SO should also cause it to lose any name we've given that layer. But a layer name is not lost and remains intact. So why not the colour?

  • HT2493 Could someone please explain colour tags?

I do not understand the use of colour tags on my Macbook air. Could someone please explain?

The colours are incidental. They are NOT labels any more. You will be frustrated if you try to use Tags to visually find your files.
The advantages of tags are this: you can add as many tags to a file as you like. They provide additional metadata so that you can query your file system. In a typical hierarchical file sytem (folders, subfolder), a file can only be in one place (unless you use aliases).
If I have "Cheeses > France > Soft" as my folders, I can put all the French soft cheese into one folder. But all the English soft cheese are in England > Soft. So what if I want to list ALL the soft cheeses, not just the ones from France? By tagging all the files with "Soft", I can then click on the Tag Smart Folder and list the soft cheeses in both countries' folders all at once.
If used creatively, you could have ALL the files in your Documents folder in one big heap, and then only view subsets of them according to their Tags. Tags represents a complete alternative to using folders to sort your files.
In a sense, a subfolder is simply a Tag in a tree-like structure.
So, instead of trying to visually find some files in a list using coloured labels, you can now query the file system by creating Smart Folders that give you a list of files that match your query: files with Tag X, in folder Y, of type PDF, bigger than 2 MB, containing the word "trumpet".
Visually scouring a folder for files is not as efficient as directly querying the system, even if it is engrained and familiar.

Anybody know why FCPX  doesn't support footage recorded in 1080-60p form Panasonic Camcorder HDC-TM900???

I'm trying to decide on a new camcorder between the new yet to be released Panasonic HD-X900M and the Canon VIXIA HF G10.  Currently have a Canon HV 20 which works great, but thought I'd upgrade to newer tech.  Looking at the supported cameras list published by Apple, the newer Panasonic hasn't been tested yet so am unsure if it is the same as the previous model.  I suspect it is.  The newer Canon appears to be good, but spec. say it is only good up to 1080I.  I'd rather have the progressive camera if it isn't that much of a hassle to convert the files.
Thanks for alll your info on this subject.

  • FCPX doesn't delete movie description when rendered

Admitted novice user of FCPX. Editing simple home movies with chapters. Upon 'sharing' the movie (in this case, to the default Apple TV 720p), it brings up the final dialog window to confirm your settings, and offers you a chance to add tags and a description, such as this:
However, I do not want the Description present, nor Creator, nor Tags. It lets you blank them out, and then you Share. I've noticed now that regardless of this, all my exported movies in Apple TV show a description. Doesn't affect playback, etc, but does annoy the creator (me) immensely.
So, doubting that there's a fix to this, is there any way to edit the resulting m4v file to remove this? Or is it embedded and permanent?

Never mind. In what is now becoming uncommonly easy with Apple, the solution was simple. Actually, I found two solutions.
    1) Go to iTunes, find the movies in question. Enable the 'Description' column, and voila! A list of all the movies that FCPX "helped" you with. • ITunes doesn't read ID3 tags properly on import

    hi all,
today I've added ID3 tags to all my mp3 files, so that they will look better in iTunes and my iPod. I have added information for "title", "artist", "album" and "track #" in ID3v1 and ID3v2.3.
Now, when I import these files to iTunes, the ID3 information is read only partly or not at all. This means, some tracks show all information, some only show title and artist, some do not show anything at all.
I edited all the ID3 tags with the same software, which makes it even more mysterious. The software was implemented by myself in C#. To edit the ID3 tags, I used the library UltraID3Lib. I don't think that something is wrong with my software because the ID3 tags are displayed properly in Winamp without any problems.
I have also already tried the option in iTunes to convert the ID3 tags, but this also only yields strange results: If I select "none" as ID3 version, iTunes obviously imports the information from the ID3v1 tags, but it deletes the ID3v2 tag at the same time, so that titles and albums are cut down to 30 characters. If I choose other options, nothing changes.
Does anybody have an idea how to solve this problem? Or can someone maybe explain this "convert ID3 tag" option? It doesn't really make sense to me...
    Many thanks in advance!
    gehho.

As far as I know (and it may not be very far), iTunes does use standard ID3 tags for most things. The XML file stores info on ratings, playlists, playcounts and other iTunes specific information for use by other applicaitons. iTunes itself doesn't use the XML file but rather the iTunes Library.itl file.
It's possilble to do multiple file tag editing in iTunes for things like artist, album, year, etc. I would say, go with whatever works for you. It just seemed as if what you were doing wasn't working. Perhaps the other suggestion will solve you're problem.
    Best of luck.

  • IPhoto doesn't show all tagged photos

I Apply tags to my photos in iPhoto on ios to keep them organized and easily searchable. But when I select a tag to filter all the photos it has been applied to it doesnt show all. The tag reads 30 photos but only nine of them are displayed in the grid after selecting the tag. Is this a known bug?

    Hello foo-on-air,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of what you are seeing. If you are having issues viewing all of your tagged photos in iPhoto for iOS, you may find the following article helpful, in particular this portion:
View flagged, tagged, hidden, or edited photos
Tap the label above the thumbnail grid.
If the thumbnail grid doesn’t appear, tap . (The orientation of this button changes depending on the orientation of your device.)
Tap an option to select the photos you want to see. To see only hidden photos, tap Hidden. To see all your photos (including the hidden ones), tap All & Hidden.
To view photos that meet several criteria (for example, photos with multiple tags), tap Advanced. Tap Any to display photos that meet any of the included criteria; tap All to display photos that meet all of the criteria.
To sort the photos by the date they were taken, tap either Oldest First or Newest First.
You can also display photos based on more complex criteria that includes or excludes certain types of photos from being displayed. After you tap the label above the thumbnail grid to open display options, tap Advanced. You can then select which type of items should be included or excluded from display. Tap Any to display items that meet any of the Included criteria. Tap All to display only items that meet all of the Included criteria.
    What are albums?

  • Why doesn't the alt tag work in firefox to open a description of an image on mouseover

In IE, when I roll my mosue over an image, it gives a tooltip description of the image contained in the html alt tag. Why doesn't this work in Firefox?

The "alt" tag is meant to show text when the image isn't loaded, the "title" tag is meant for a description of an image on cursor hover. IE has been doing that wrong for many years, where Firefox follows W3C standards. A properly coded webpage should have both "alt" and "title" tags.
