Federated Portal Question

Is it possible to have a Portal 7.0 Procuder and a 7.10 CE Portal Consumer?
I am having troubles in the registration of the consumer .
I have tried backwards and it works. I mean the CE portal as the Producer and the 7.00 portal as the consumer.
Please advise.

Hi Sree,
For content sharing interactions between NetWeaver portals in your federation network, users on the consumer portal must also exist in the user store utilized by the producer portal; otherwise runtime authorization for remote-based content will fail.
You may use:
Single user store: Using a single physical user store that serves all your portal installations.
Distributed user stores with exact duplication: Using two or more distributed user stores, typically one at each portal installation, which are exact replicas of one another.
Distributed user stores with partial duplication: Using two or more distributed user stores, typically one at each portal installation, whereby only portal users that are assigned to remote content are copied to the user store on the producer portal.
Since the federated portal network makes use of logon tickets for authentication, the users' logon IDs must be identical on both the consumer portal and the producer portal. Therefore, if you are using user stores of different types within the network, for example LDAP on consumer and ABAP on producer, the logon IDs must be identical across the user bases.
Hope this is useful.

  • Questions on Federated Portal Network

    Hi All,
I have a few questions on Federated Portal Network. Please if someone can provide appropriate answers
It is said that the look n feel will be same. Will the consumer have the look n feel of the producer or the producer application will have the look n feel of the consumer portal. Also, if it is required for the content of the producer portal to maintain it's own look n feel, is it possible
How to take care of the performance bottlenecks. Are there any standards available to improve the performance
Any limitation on the no of producer portals which can be configured with the consumer portal
If one portlet, has undergone some kind of change, then how is the consumer portal notified of this. Is there some kind of synchronization mechanism that takes place or this change is implicitly conveyed to the consumer portal, both in the case of Remote Delta Link or Remote Role Assignment
How does the session management work between the consumer portal and producer portal
What is meant by transitive content sharing
    Regards
    Nikhil

    Hi Rasmus,
Is your consumer portal required High Availability?  A scheduled re-bounce of the instance should help (weekly, monthly, etc.) as a preventive measure.  Maybe you can observe to see how long does it take before the problem comes back (after a full cache refreshed) and then schedule your re-bounce accordingly.  As much as we try to do our best, "things" happen
Or, you can adjust your cache settings (e.g. reduce the maxValidityPeriodInSecond property) to avoid the problem.

According to the following link, the cache stores only semantic objects (iViews, pages, layouts and roles); since worksets are not semantic objects, could that be why?!

    Hello Guys,
I am working on federating portal i.e BI portal and EP portal federation.
My question is, for remote role assignments do we need to use the same user store similar to BI and EP or can we use different user stores for the remote roles other than BI and EP.
    If so please explain me.
    Thank you

  • Basic questions on Collaboration Rooms,TREX and Federated portal

    Hi All,
I have some basic doubts related to above topics.
1.In a particular collaboration room,Room admin role check box is disabled(greyed out),that means we can not add anybody as admin.other room roles like member and member admin are ok.How can I again make it enabled again?
2.In room administration under content admin->collaboration content->I can filter out the rooms available ,by giving appropriate filter search. But TREX is not installed with portal.Does this search uses TREX?
3.What is basic definition of federated portal? Is it something to do with the remote interaction of one portal with other?that means one portal iviews and other objects can be accessed through another portal. Is it True?
    Thanks in Advance,points are guaranteed
    Rani A

    Hi,
    1. This should only be the case if the user that looks at the room roles is not an administrator in the room. An administrator should be able to givte this role to other users
    2. This search can wor with TREX but it is not necessary. Please have a look at this: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/ff/1a9442062bcd6ae10000000a155106/frameset.htm

  • Federated Portal: accessing content,  through Consumer, stored on Producer

    Hello Guys,
I am working on a project which has a Federated Portal Network scenario. Details of it are as follows:
    Details:
SAP EP 7.0 with SP11. Two portal installations: Consumer and Producer. Both Consumer and Producer are used for logging on by users. Consumer does not have any content. Users logging on to Consumer accesses all the content from Producer rendered through Remote Role Assignment which works fine. Through Consumer, I am able to access in Top Level Navigation, the Role and all assigned worksets, of the Producer. For a particular workset I have a page containing an AppIntegrator iView. AppIntegrator iView is being used as we are catering to more than one language on the portals. This AppIntegrator iView is rendering an HTML page which is stored in a KM repository on Producer (as I mentioned all content is on Producer). The path to the HTML page on KM repository is given in the URL Template property of the AppIntegrator iView created on the Producer. The path for example is something like: <System.protocol>://<System.server>:<System.port>/irj/go/km/docs/myrepository/testPage/<Request.Language>/includes/mypage.html
The links on the HTML page are all relative links. For eg, {a href = "/irj/portal/theQuickLink" target="_top"}. The behaviour I want is to navigate to the workset/page once I click the link on the HTML page while staying in the Consumer portal.
    Problem/Question:
On the Consumer I see the HTML page and till this point the navigation is in Consumer portal. But when I click on any of the links on this page the navigation takes me to the Producer URL. I am transferred to the Producer portal and am no longer in the Consumer portal.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kaushik

    Vinoth,
I am aware about the solution provided by you. But my problem here is the Server name + port and not the rest of the URL.
For eg. my consumer portal is http://Aserver:50000
    and producer portal is http://Bserver:51000.
While I am able to access the HTML page via consumer and till then the URL has the consumer Server + port details (for eg. http://Aserver:50000), once I click any link on it the URL in the address bar of the browser window changes to that of the producer for eg http://Bserver:51000. All subsequent browsing happens in the producer as I am transferred to the Producer.
Let me know if anybody has more suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Kaushik

  • CRM factsheet and BI 7.0 Web-Templates in Federated Portal Network Scenario

    Hi All,
i have some essential questions regarding a Federated Portal Network Scenario.
    Our costumer works with 1 CRM-Portal (CRM 5.0, EP 7.0) and 1 BI-Portal (BI/EP 7.0).
He decided to implement a Federated Portal Network, using the CRM-Portal as the Consumer-Portal.
In the CRM-Portal we are working with the Business Package for SAP_CRM which also comprises Reports that are called from the BI.
The BI-Reports (BI 7.0 Web Templates) are now stored in the BI-Portal
How i can assign these BI-Reports (producer) into the factsheet of the CRM-Portal (consumer)?
Is that generally possible that the facsheet of the Consumer Portal (CRM) works togehther with BI 7.0 Web Templates from the Producer-Portal (BI)?
    Best regards
    Mustafa Darwish

    It's been solved.
See note: 1058268 - BI 7.0 WebTemplates do not run in CRM 5.0 specific iViews

    how to manage?
any configurations we have to do?
what are the requirements in terms of software/hardware etc...
if there is any detailed document, please help me on that.
I have already gathered few docs from help.sdn and snd forums. but setup, configuration, maintain, requirements .. still on mess in my mind.
I want to have any doc with is precise and clear to understand.

    Hi Kiran,
You should be able to find the answers to the questions you posted in the FPN documentation set on teh SAP Help Portal, which you can find here: <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/5b/9f2d4293825333e10000000a155106/frameset.htm">http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/5b/9f2d4293825333e10000000a155106/frameset.htm</a>.
Note that the documentation assumes you have prior portal experience. The solution is based on NW2004s.
If you have any comments (good and bad) about the documentation feel free to post to this thread.

  • Assign remote roles with Federated portals

    Hello all,
We're trying to implement a federated Portal network using the <i>"Implementing a Federated Portal Network" in Detail</i> document.
The steps that we have follow successfully are:
    1. Connect to the user repository (Producer and Consumer).
    2. Configure system settings (Producer and Consumer).
    3. Define and Configure producers (consumer).
    4. Set permisions (producer).
Now we want to assign remote roles to local users in <i>User Administration -> Proxy-to-remote Roles option.</i> But <i>Proxy-to-remote Roles</i> tab doesn't appear in the second level navigation...
We are working with EP7 SP10.
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance

Maybe a clue: According to the Remote Role assigment question, We have a similar problem using the Remote content copy option.
In the consumer EP, Content Administration -> Portal Content, the Netweaver Content Producers contains the producer connection icon but it's empty. So, the content share can't be done...
    Now... Any idea?
    Thanks!

  • Federated Portal

    Hi All,
We are trying to decide whether to federated or not.  We currently have one EP7 portal only with content from both ECC and BI and in the process of upgrading BI to 2004s.  Since we have global users we understand that federating it will improve performance.  Also managing portals will be easier.  I keep reading the different things about federated portal like Multitenant Portal, External Facing Portal etc.
But is there any technical difficulties in implementing a single EP7 on 2004s.  We have been told with the BI 2004s upgrade the AS-Java installation needs Portal to be installed also at the same time as a mandatory rule.  Is that true?  I dont understand how that can be as then AS ABAP+JAVA will be on the same box as portal and that will create a performance issue.
Our bottom line is that we will want to federate if there are technical limitations against a non-federated portal landscape like something mentioned above.  We dont want to federate because of the advantages mentioned in paragraph #1.
I am a business warehouse person and I think federating is similar to using a multicube where you add cubes (portals) later on and manage your data at a smaller level.  As much as I appreciate the advantages of federating in that respect it shouldnt be a mandatory choice.
    Any thoughts is welcome!!

    Hi Maria,
No the cache is not invalidated in the case you mentioned.
You can set a time interval for the cache to be automatically invalidated, or invalidate it manually.
However there is no notification service that notify Consumers of changes made in the Producer.
This is not a major issue if you don't change the structure / Navigation of the Producer content.
    Hope this helped,
If you have any more question, Please feel free to ask,
    Regards
    Roy

  • Custom Authentication on Federated Portal

We are trying to implement our own authentication on a Federated Portal version 7.0. We want to protect some content on the portal by using an authentication scheme and ask some questions from the user using an iView. The whole process works fine on the producer side. But when we try to use the protected content from the consumer side, it seems that the consumer is trying to read the auth scheme from the producer (which is OK), but it tries to load the questions iView from the consumer, which is not found and it throws an exception that “iView not found”.
Another issue is that when we copy an iView as delta link from producer to the consumer side, the iView doesn’t run. It throws exception saying “InitialContext not found”.
    Anybody has any clues?
    Thanks

    Hi Faraz,
I am interested in what you have implemented....we have a requirement where the user logs into portal against LDAP, on success, they then access ESS applications....We are now implementing MSS.  After authenticating through LDAP, If the user clicks on one of the MSS iViews then they need to provide the User ID and PW to the ECC system.  This is because some users have their Admin assistants do work for them in the portal.  However the admin assistants should not be able to access any of the MSS iviews...only the ESS iviews.
Do you think we should write our own custom auth scheme for the MSS iviews?  whats the right direction?

  • Error while accessing a BI iView from the federated portal to the BI portal

    Hi,
We got an issue when we execute BI report from our federated SAP Portal.
The user can navigate into the portal, but when he executes an BI iView, sometime he gets the following error message:
    "500 Internal Server Error
    blabla...
    Root Cause
The initial exception that caused the request to fail was:
BEx Web application "xxxxx" does not exist. The application was either ended by a timeout or an error occurred, which was entered into the trace log. See SAP Notes 937697 and 948490"
He can then refresh the page and execute the report again, and it will works.
    Here is our lanscape :
    Federated Portal EP6 SP18
    BI Portal SP20
Iview are created on the Federated Portal and consume BI web template.
I don't think about a timeout issue, since sometime we got the selection screen and once we click on a button (after some seconds) we got the error.
    Any ideas ?
    rgds,
    Sebastien

    Hello,
Please could you remove the proxy setting and check whether it will give you same error or not.
Even we have faced the similar similar issue and once we have removed the proxy setting and cross checked it , it worked fine and later we came to know that the problem is in network proxy setting application.Check with the net working team for the same.
    Thanks

  • Test IVIEWS in Consumers for Federal Portal.

    Hi All,
This is the first time iam establishing Federal Portal and i have done with all the configuration steps ie
Setting Truct , SSO , creating and registering of Consumers and Producers etc.
Now i want to check it by creating some iviews etc.. But i dont know and not getting how to create it and test.
Could any body telthe steps to create I views in Consumers and how to test SSO and how to use COnsumers.
    Points wil be assigned.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Akash..

    Hi Akash,
    Steps you need to take:
    - Setup trust between consumer and producer portal by exchanging certificates and making Visual Administrator entries in the Security Provider Service.
    - Create producer.
    - Register producer.
See this document for good descriptions of steps to take:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/70191d1e-2bd1-2a10-d9b7-ba19500da527
Also for remote role assignment in NW 7.0 SP15 you need to add some UME Actions to a role that is aasigned to pcd_service user. See following link for the material:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/43/2236fc0b413fe1e10000000a11466f/frameset.htm
Please have a look and reward points if helpfull. Good luck!

  • Missing MSS iViews in Federated Portal Network

Hello, portal gurus, we have a FPN related issue that hope some of you can help.
We have two portal systems that we set up as a Federated Portal
Network. One producer portal, verision is 7.0, SP11, and one
consumer portal, version is 7.0 SP13. We installed the ESS and MSS business
packages in the producer portal. Those business packages came with the SAP NetWeaver
2005 installation, and they are working ok on the producer portal.
In addition, we were able to do the remote role assignment in the
consumer portal successfully. The problem is that some of the MSS
links and iViews that are shown up ok in the producer portal are missing from the consumer portal.
Have anyone experienced the same issue? Is it because the dismatch of the SP level causing the issue? Are there any fixes to this issu?
Thanks a lot for any input!
    Jane

    Hi Jane,
PCD content and KM content are two different things and they have different transport mechanism.
If you want to transport PCD content to another portal go to System Administration/Transport/Transport Package/Export. In PCD tree in any place create transport package and add to it objects which you need (folders, roles, worksets, iviews and so on) and save transport package file localy on your computer or server. After that go to the system where you want to locate your content. Go to System Administration/Transport/Transport Package/Import If you save tranport file localy on your computer chose client and upload tranport file.
KM transport very clear describe here How to Export KM Contents by ICE protocol using Offline Channel Beside this way you can transport KM content use program Portal Drive (very useful program especially when you need quickly transport some KM files from one portal to another).

  • App page link to "federated portal" menu with  webdynpro for JAVA

    Hi experts,
we have completed the federated portal configuration from EP to CE7.1
Clients just log in EP, see both EP and CE content.
Now, clients want to make a index page with some link and fashion pictures pointed to exact EP or CE page.

but when i change content path to my CE content, the method failed.
