Feel like I'm stuck at the airport...

...and my flight has been delayed by 8 hours or more but, as they do, the airline will only show it in chunks of 30 minutes!
I have given up trying to guess when my Infinity will ACTUALLY be available. As I posted before, every week it gets put back 6 days, I have monitored this on my and adjacent streets. Mine is currently due Oct 3 but from 2 other streets I am expecting this to go to the 14 Oct (my estimate) in a few days.
I can totally undertand WHY things get delayed etc but I can NOT understand why they do this piecemeal unless it is to STOP people moving FROM BT or encourage people (like me) to come back.
I am due to be switched back from O2 next week and my ONLY reason is Infinity as otherwise the BB was the same but I am now due to pay virtually double, which is OK for Infinity but NOT the same service. If this goes on longer than a month I will be extremely upset.
Of course I will have no recourse because BT wont let you actually sign for Infinity until it's available, so I have now an 18 month contract for BB and can only hope my flight is not CANCELLED and I get out of this Airport soon
Cheers
Alan

I cannot understand why people fall for the sales pitch to switch to BT before their local cabinet is ready to take orders as there is nothing to gain and plenty to loose. You are tied into a contract without a guarantee that you will get a fibre service on the date given or possibly ever.
This is not a BT conspiracy more a BT group **bleep** up. BT Openreach do all the work on the cabinets and publish estimated dates - they are always estimates not promises and like any construction work estimates tend to change backwards. When a cabinet is ready they tell the retail companies who sell the service of whom BT Retail is one who then can accept orders. BT Retail have no extra information over their competitors and often seem the last to know (their databases take a while to update). Infinity is the BT Retail product other isps (eg Plus Net, Talk Talk etc) call their's something different and package it differently but they are all reselling the BT Openreach FTTC product which you cannot order until the local cabinet is fully working.
BT Retail sales staff have targets to meet so will push you to buy early and tie you in but why fall for it? If you get a MAC code and order when the cabinet is up and running you will be on the service as quickly.

I was prompted to download the "latest version of Firefox 9.0" and I did it. . . It's awful though.
The tabs are different - like an old style (perhaps from 1980) Even the color looks different - a lighter baby blue.
Ghads. . I would LOVE to go back to the previous look. . . may consider using something other than Firefox. . I really can't stand this look!

  • No lift off...can't find the plane!...Feel like I'...

Well I am back, having been the author of
Feel like I'm stuck at the airport...
     I'm still in trouble!
Ordered 14 Feb Engineer visit today 8 til 1.
A contractor from Openreach arrived at my home at 12:45. I joked just made the slot then!
He said he'd been here (phone cab not FTTC) since first thing but couldn't find our line, stuck a meter on it went back to the cab but returned saying he still couldnt find it. Nothing he can do, will report it to BT who will make another appt.
I am feeling mixed emotions...angry/nothing I wasnt expecting/depressed/whatever... I dont think I can be bothered to phone BT and put myself through the grinder!
My line is with BT and my ADSL with O2 which will probably disappear at midnight.
Not really expecting a response I hust feel like a rant!
    Thanks for listening.

    Thanks Ryan & Sholtie.
I was about to reply that they were at the right cabinet, then I thought all the contractor did was answer "yes" to my question "Were you at the right cabinet, No 26?"
I am normally a very trusting person but there was something about this guy's demeanour and negative attitude which made me feel that he had been doing something else all morning and just turned up before the deadline. He said he had been given the wrong routing info. I am sure if he had called in the same info after an hour rather than after 5 (which Openreach called to say they had fixed within a couple of hours) then it could have been resolved in the allotted time.
There are a lot of complaints on the forum and yes the majority of successes go unreported. I accept that things can go wrong its how they are responded to that is important. In this case I did nothing and have to admit to being satisfied to their reaction. Fortunately I am at home most of the time so it was not a major inconvenience more a disappointment.
I am looking forward to a positive outcome.

  • Pen stuck in the laptop! what do i do?

    Lenovo ThinkPad X61 Tablet PC - Intel Centrino Duo Core 2 Duo L7500 1.6GHz - 12.1" SXGA+ - 2GB DDR2 SDRAM - 120GB - DVD-Writer (DVDR/RW) - Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth - Windows Vista Business - Black - 776796U $1450 buy.com
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I just had my pen get stuck in my x61t, and didn't want to deal with the hassle of taking/shipping it someplace.  "Remove the label C screws" wasn't a very useful set of instructions for me, so I'm describing the process here.  This should apply to the x61t and x60t.
Basically, the right-click button on the pen has broken (you might not think it is, mine didn't appear broken until the pen became stuck), causing the switch that detects the pen's presence in the pen bay to catch on the hole where the right-click button belongs.  In my case the pen was not stuck due to a problem with the mechanism that normally holds the pen in place (which attaches to the clip on the pen), so you'll maybe have to do something slightly different if you suspect that. You should know if that is the case later because the tip end of the pen won't feel like it is stuck on anything if you try to move it once it is exposed.
To get at the pen compartment, I ended up having to remove the palm rest almost entirely, which requires removing the keyboard. Removing the palm rest isn't probably strictly necessary, but makes it a lot easier.  The keyboard is easy to remove.  It is held by 4 "C" screws on the bottom of the laptop, then put a small screwdriver in one of the small holes marked with a keyboard icon on the bottom of the laptop to pop it up partially.  Once the space bar end of the keyboard is up (you have to pry it out from under the palm rest, it helps to slide the keyboard towards display hinge end of the laptop a little), slide the keyboard towards the palm rest to unhook the top edge.Lift up the keyboard a little, and disconnect the keyboard connector from the laptop.  It should pry up with only a little pressure from your fingernail at the two left corners of the connector.  There is a clear strip of plastic to the right of the connector that looks like it is part of it, but it is separate, leave it alone.  Once the keyboard is up, move it away and you might as well shake out all the dirt someplace while you're at it.
The palm rest requires the "A" screw on the bottom of the laptop near where the pen goes in AND 6 "C" screws to be removed (so now all "C" screws except the two on the display end of the bottom of the laptop are removed).  You can't just remove C screws, you need to remove the "A" screw, this is important!!  Removing all this will loosen up the palm rest, but it is still partially hooked into the case on the left & right sides.  To unhook the edge by the hard drive, I recommend removing the large unlabeled screw next to the microphone jac to remove the hard drive bay cover.  Then you can unhook that side by gently pulling out (to your right) and down on the "hook" part that was previously somewhat inside the bay cover. The other side of the palm rest should release mostly on its own.
The tricky part now is that the hole for the right-click button of the pen is stuck to the pen switch assemply (which is attached to the laptop, towards the hinge side of the pen bay), while the eraser end of the pen is in the pam rest, so you still can't remove the palm rest all the way.  What I found worked is to gently raise the palm rest without forcing it, just enough so that the tip of the pen can be reached by a finger or tool.  Push on the eraser end of the pen to push the pen farther into the pen bay and, while still pushing on the eraser end, gently reach under the palm rest and pull the now exposed tip of the pen up and towards you. Pushing on the eraser end once or twice while doing this should free the pen to eject normally.  The right-click button will probably shoot off of the pen on its way out.
If you want to instead try to remove the minimum possible (just loosen the palm rest and not remove the keyboard), you need to remove at least the 4 "C" screws on the palm end of the laptop and the one "A" screw.  Raise the palm rest as little as possible without forcing, get a tool in there to pull the tip end of the pen up and toward you, and push the eraser end of the pen.  This didn't unstick the pen for me because I couldn't see what I was doing or needed to do, but is probably possible.
Hope this helps someone.  The maintenance manual for x60t/x61t is at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-66749 and has some diagrams that help.  Page 83 has a diagram of the pen switch assembly (don't follow those instructions though, you don't have to all that!), and page 68 shows how to remove the palm rest.

  • Stuck at the Lenovo-Bootscreen

Hello everybody, since I've shutdown my 3000N200 it cannot be booted again. When powering on, the Lenovo-bootscreen apears with a message "please wait..." at the bottom left side - but nothing ever happens. Touching any key (including care-button) leads directly to bios-configuration, but when saving the settings and exiting, the system again is stuck at the Lenovo-bootscreen. Tried booting from CD with the same result. Removed any cables, battery, even HD and RAM without success. Seems like I am stuck at the Bootscreen. What else can I do? Thanks in advance!

So last night i went on ahead with my software update. Everything went smooth and whatnot, as i was going to bed i went to go restart my mac. It said that it needed to install the updates first, so i clicked yeah and went to bed.
So I wake up this morning and my mac is off. Odd i thought, since I wanted it to restart, not shut down. I tried to turn it on and it powered up and such, but then it just got stuck at the VERY VERY beginning. It won't do anything once it reaches the silver screen with the platinum apple logo and the little silver spinny thing nothing happens. I tried the power button on the back and disconnecting the power cord, to no avail.
I guess last night the power went out in my neck of the woods, may be at the same time that the update was trying to install itself. If so, do you think it affected the computer as a whole?
What should I do? This has never ever happened before.
    Thanks.
    Excuse my informalness, sorry.
i don't really know the specs of my Mac since i don't have it infront of me. Sorry, but i bought it in November last year and it's a 20 inch display desktop mac. If that helps much. Thanks again.

  • Safari 6 feels like beta software! Eeek!

So I quickly installed Safari 6 on the day of release. I ended up with several problems.
    1. Safari 6 crashes alot more than Safari 5 did....particularly when the dev tools are turned on.
    2. Sometimes Safari 6 doesn't render the whole page. It's a really strange bug.
    3. Safari 6 is sometimes unresponsive?
    4. The dev tools don't make any sense. I was one of those who preferred to develop for Safari first. The tools seem like a HOT mess now. I like that they look new and all but they crash the entire browser or slow it down significantly at a time when I need it to work most.
It's like working with a slightly faster less stable version of FF. Its the most unstable Webkit release I've seen so far. I can't believe developers tested this out and thought it was ready to ship or maybe Apple just doesn't want developers developing for it's products. Safari 6 feels like self sabotage.

Please use the confidential forums in the Dev Center, thanks.

  • Am I the only person that feels like the salesman lied to me, wrote up contract wrong, etc?

I had purchased two Iphone 4's without contract and enjoyed not having the bill and extra fees every month.  Through the prepaid carrier, my son and I didn't even know we could use a laptop or anything  with our phones.  Luck would have it, the only thing I had left through Verizon was my USB device that I put on my computer and after 3 years, it broke.  I went to Verizon to purchase a new one, and pay cash for it to not be under contract, the first salesman assured me it was compatible like the other but after four days I had to take it back for lack of connection.  79.00 was what I paid, when returned, of course I got stuck paying the restocking fee of 35.00 and a new sales person named Cofe (at Jonesboro location) comes to assist me. He talked me into the wifi jetback for 20 or so with the NEW TWO YEAR CONTRACT as he understood I would be needing for portable devices.  Had to pay full price for it and wait for my 50 bucks on the rebate card.  He spots my son scoping out the 4S, he said he could make the deal worth my while if we wanted to get newer phones...never telling me how much the cost.  Against my better judgement, we got new phones, promised new free Lifeproof cases, etc.  I told him my funds were tight and I only wanted a plan of about 160 or 180 total for all.  Paid the small amount he said was due, then get a bill for 443 a couple days later.  We kept going over the data on our phones, not knowing that he in fact set us up to pay 220 a month for 10 gb data, use of jetpack and two smart phones.  Paying over for what we had on the mifi we didn't know exitsted caused us to have 30 too much on device and usually 30 overcharge data.  Fianlly look at bill wondering why I couldn't get it paid up and 6 calls to customer service, digging through receipts, 10 hours of phone bill hunting, and numerous hours on the phone brought to my attention that he had set me up on almost the most expensive plan, charged us 99 each for cases, 99 for two new contracts and swiped a gift card for 400 to my account without any knowledge.  Also, this  was a new plan since not under contract, and HE TOOK OUR PHONES that I could've sold for a small chunk and there is not a trace of where they went? He made himself a sale that day!!  They have removed some of the charges since I took back the FREE cases, etc., but this has been a horrible experience.  I begged the people to please let me out of my contract because now I am unemployed and sure cant afford this and I feel like he did some underhanded tactics selling and not starting the plan off right.  He didn't have to sell me the jetpack, we can run laptop of phones, and I guess if I were only gonna get 99 bucks for a three month old phone, I wouldve taken it elsewhere.  It's amazing that of all documents scanned in My Verizon, it does not really show a trade in, which he didn't explain anyway, nor does it show what or the actual value.  I get horrible service in my area and it drags on the web.not taking long to use the data.  In the last week, my phone was cut off so I had to go to the prepaid place and port over.  Paid enough to keep my son's phone and laptop and got told if I dont have remaining balance in a few days, they won't port my number back to Verizon, service interrupt on all and then the process server will get to bang on my door.  I have never been so disgusted with service and some of the people in that building by their actions.  One tried but of course he took up for his dude Cofe.....I don't know what to do now, try to pay it or tell them take the phones and FIND MY OLD ONES then go back prepay.  Read this customer service specialist, because I am pretty sure DECEIT, RUNNING GIFT CARDS, AND WRONGFULLY SETTING UP NEW CONTRACT is grounds for an official claim. How did y'all like that bid long confusing mess of a story?  :/

    Uhhhh, hmmmmm, WHAT???
Sorry, I have no idea what you are ranting about. I think I would be more upset for running over my phone.

  • Itunes stuck in the process of connecting to Airport

It seems that iTunes keeps trying to connect to Airport, but has stuck in the process.
A window displays "Connecting to Airport" and it seems to be a never ending process (the Mac Book has been closed down, and I have tried to forceclose Itunes several ways including through Activity Monitor). So I can neither use nor kill Itunes. I have also without luck tried to disconnect my Airport to stop the process of Itunes trying to connect to Airport.
Any advice on how to close the process?
    Kind regards

I cannot see the screenshot but it sounds like you're describing a Kernel Panic. Usually SW based you need to turn off the Mac and attempt to boot to the recovery partition - hold Command and R as soon as you turn the Mac on. Keep those keys held down until you come to a language screen or a Utilities screen. Then open up Disk Utility and verify the HD and its volume Macintosh HD. If either needs repair then do that and try booting the Mac normally again.
If there's still an issue I would normally recommend reinstalling the OS. Again, boot to the Recovery partiton as described above and then follow the prompts to reinstall Mac OS X. Alternately, if you have a backup you can also use this same screen to restore everything from Time Machine and see how everything looks there.

My weather app doesn't show the feels like temp or wind, etc.  How can I fix this?  I am running iOS 8.1.2.

is that really what it is?  this is the native iphone weather app.  the funny part is that when i use the actual weather channel app, it does provide it.
is this an api issue with the weather channel and the iphone then?  i guess there's no fix?
thanks for your help by the way.

how can someone use a stolen iphone? does erasing the phone (which I feel like I should do) make it easier for the thief to use the iphone?  If I don't erase it, it doesn't seem like anyone should be able to use the phone because of my password. Also, is it possible to retrieve anything that has been sent to the phone (i.e. text messages) since it was stolen through icloud? The "find my iphone" app says the device is offline but it rings when I call my number -- any idea how that would be the case? Thanks!!

You have a password, so good move on your part.  Whether you erase it or the thief does, they still get to use the iPhone as theirs.  Which is more important (pick one), protecting your data or punishing the thief?
Ringing occurs at the carrier.  Chances are you're going to voicemail after only two or three rings.  If you have an iCloud backup also a good move.  Re-read my question in the first paragraph.
