FileMaker Pro 8

Question

Hi. Here's a fairly simple problem. I've got a database of IP addresses with two tables:
Table 1 - IP_Addr (main table)
Table 2 - IP_Usage
Tables are related through match field "IP_Address"
Table IP_Addr stores individual (and unique) IP addresses
Table IP_Usage tracks the dates that I've seen this IP address in my email
(I get this data from an AppleScript in Entourage)
I want to do the following steps in AS (and/or using FM scripts if optimal):
1. take a new unknown IP address from Entourage
2. Is it is already in Table 1? (i.e., do a Find for IP address and see if count of found records = 0 or 1)
-- If no, then
* add a new record in Table 1 with the IP address
* add a new related record in Table 2 filling in the date field in Table 2
-- If yes, then
* add a new related record in Table 2
I've been struggling, but not getting very far. Any help would be
appreciated.

I don't have FM 8 yet, and still work mostly in 6, and am not as strong as I would like to be, but here is a bit of code which may get you started. Change the "Developer" to what ever your FM is called.
tell application "FileMaker Developer"
set mydb to "IP_Address.fp5"
set newip to "10.0.0.2"

show (every record of database mydb whose cell "IP_Address" is newip)
on error
create new record-- these 2 lines should be one, post if you get it on one line
copy newip to field "ip_address" of last record of database "IP_Address.fp5"
end try
end tell
end
