Filing incoming emails in Mailboxes brings my Mac to a halt

I have a problem with Mail since I installed Mountain Lion. If I try to drag my incoming mail into a mailbox to keep it organised, within a few minutes the MacBook Pro slows down to a virtual stop and I have to reboot. Any ideas why? Anyone? Thanks

Step 1
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBookSourceSync
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash.
Log out, log back in, and test. If there's no change, go to the next step.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Step 2
A. If you use iCloud, uncheck the box marked Contacts in the iCloud preference pane. Press return to confirm, or click  Keep on Mac in the dialog that opens.
B. From the list of groups on the left side of the Contacts window, select All On My Mac. If that group doesn't exist or is empty, skip this step. Otherwise, from the menu bar, select
File ▹ Export ▹ Export vCard
Save the exported contacts to the Desktop.
C. Quit Contacts. Triple-click the text on the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return.
A Finder window will open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open for now.
D. Launch Contacts. Your contacts will be gone. If you took Step 2, then double-click the file you created in that step and confirm that you want to import from it. Your contacts will reappear.
E. Re-enable Contacts in the iCloud preference pane, if you disabled it. Test. If the issue is resolved, delete the AddressBook folder and the vCard file on the Desktop and close the open folder window.
Otherwise, quit Contacts again and put the AddressBook folder back where it was, overwriting the newer one that will have been created in its place. Post your results.

  • Only Incoming emails not being received on Mac Mail

    Hello,
I am able to receive incoming emails on my Blackberry as well as my Webmail, but since a couple of days, my incoming Emails are just not being received on my Mac Mail, specific to 1 Account only.  I have multiple accounts on my Mac Mail.
    Please assist.

    Hello Shadab333
Start with using Connection Doctor to see if there is anything that is preventing it from receiving email. Depending on the settings of that email address in Mail you may not receive them once they have been checked elsewhere. Check out the article below to troubleshoot the issue further.

    Hello everyone,
I'll like to know if there's a way for my users to be able to redirect all there incoming emails by

I know the trick which consit of creating a contact on the server, and then by the delivery options redirect it to that contact.
I want my users to do it by their own, we have 1k users, and I dont really feel like doing it for everyone who need it to be done.

By defalut AutoForwardEnabled is set to false, if you change it to True then your outlook rule will work. You can allow it for a single recipient domain or for all recipient domains
***View existing setting of remote default domain***
Get-RemoteDomain -Identity default | fl Identity, AutoForwardEnabled
***Allow Autoforward for all recipient domain***
    Set-RemoteDomain -Identity default -AutoForwardEnabled $True

  • Incoming email to my Mac is incredibly slow - yet I receive it quickly on my iPhone - any suggestions?

Incoming email to my iMac is incredibly slow - yet the emails download quickly to my iPhone - any suggestions?  Thanks

This is an update from mariefromarnold:
I am now unable to download email to both my iMac and my MacBook Pro.  I have accessed my verizon.net account directly and all of the emails are there.  The issue appears to be that the messages will not download to either of these machines - they do download directly to both iPhones.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

  • Does Mountain Lion scan incoming email in Mac Mail?

I've been using Avast for my Mac but I had to turn off the Mail Shield in order to recieve mail.  I was wondering if Mountain Lion has any security measures for Mac Mail?  Does it scan incomging email?
New to the Mac world sorry for my ignorance, I'm learning:)
    Thanks!

Technically, it sort of scans e-mail attachments. If you receive something that can be executed on a Mac - an application, a Unix shell script, etc - then it will be scanned when you try to open it. If it is one of a few known Mac trojans, you will be prevented from opening it. If it is Windows malware of some kind, you won't be able to open it, but you also won't be warned either.

  • Mac Mail incoming email not loading when on home cable broadband

I'm having a new problem (started happening just 2 night ago, for no apparent reason). Incoming emails no longer working on any apple device (iPhone 5, iPad, MacBook Pro) when connected to my home broadband wireless modem (cable, netgear cg3100d). This is despite all devices accessing websites without any issues, and speedtest showing 32mbps when connected to this modem. When I take any of these devices to connect to my work's wireless internet connection the mails load fine. Likewise if i switch off wifi on the phone and use the 3G or 4G the emails load.
What could be the cause since I haven't changed any settings? I'm nowhere near my monthly download limit either.
I've also noticed that Apple TV loading content has slowed right down. This seems to be related since it has occurred at the same time. Strange that only email and Apple TV is affected. Websites all load fine and at full speed.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Timdk,
The port settings for mail.bigpond.com changed a few months ago and this is starting to be enforced. Please check your settings against those in the table on this link: https://go.telstra.com.au/helpandsupport/-/email-settings-summary
I would suggest performing a factory reset of the modem via the interface http://192.168.0.1 and you will find this option located under Set Password in the left hand menu.
Once done, test it again and let us know how you went

  • TS4002 iCloud for email is not on my Mac. How can I get email and iCal to sync with iphone and ipad.

iCloud for email is not on my Mac. It should be under Internet and wireless in System Preferences but it is not. Basically I am trying to get iCloud running successfully on my Mac for email and Calendar so that it will sync with my iPad and iPhone. I was an MobilMe customer and I've been having trouble with this conversion to iCloud. Thanks.

I too was a mobileme user and have just migrated to iCloud on mackbook pro w/OS 10.7.4. Transition caused my sent mailboxes to rearrange themselves so that I have no comprehensive 'sent' mailbox as I did previously and the view on both incoming and outgoing mailboxes keeps rearranging itself no matter how many times I set preferences. One result is that search function no longer works.  Is anyone else having problems like this?  All was fine for a week after transition but after having an evening when my password was repeatedly rejected I had to log in and out of iCloud (as directed by tech support) and w/in an hour or so the mailbox problem began.

  • How do I change the subject line on incoming email

On my old PC I could easily start typing in the subject line of a received email.  This would allow me to search for a name later on when looking for an invoice.  I dont know how to change the subject line of an incoming email to my imac?

This site tells you how to edit the subject of a message.  I just tested using OS X 10.8.5 and it worked, without altering the time & date stamp, or the original sender info.
    http://email.about.com/od/macosxmailtips/qt/et_edit_receive.htm
    Steps copied below:
Drag and drop the desired message out of Mac OS X Mail onto the Desktop.
Ctrl-click on the message copy on the Desktop.
Select Open With | TextEdit from the menu.
Make the desired changes to the message source. To change a message's subject, look for "Subject:" at the beginning of a line starting from the top.  (hint, you can use 'Command-F' to bring up a search window to help you find the "Subject").
    Close TextEdit saving the document.
Ctrl-click on the message on the Desktop again.
Select Open With | Mail from the menu this time.
Now select Message | Copy To followed by the message's original folder from the menu in Mac OS X Mail.
    Close the message window.
Delete the message copy from your Desktop.
Optionally, delete the original message in Mac OS X Mail.  (when I tested this, the original message was no longer there.  Not sure what happened to it, but the changes worked without editing the time, date, or original sender information.)

  • Incoming email stopped on one account

My incoming email to the Mac stopped on the afternoon of 8/13. My wife still receives in her mailbox, and we can both send outgoing mail. The incoming server is POP.earthlink.net. The change came on 8/13 while I was traveling and not near it, the Mac stopped receiving my mail. I get so much junk email you can see the time it stopped by the time tag of the last message.
In another state on 8/11 and 8/12 I was struggling with a handmedown PC, and spoke with Earthlink, Microsoft and Dell about establishing email, but then discovered a hard disk problem and ordered new hardware for the PC. I don't think there was any connection.
    Help!

    Hello,
What you are wanting to do, is called a .mac alias account. This is not done directly in the Mail application, but rather on the .Mac Web pages. However, you can open Mail Preferences/Accounts, and for your .Mac account you should see a menu button that reads Edit Mail Alias Addresses -- click this, and it will take you to a sign-in page for .Mac via web. Sign in, and follow directions for adding an alias account.
Once you have done this, then this address will become available in the address pull-down menu in the Compose window of Mail. Any mail sent to this alias will appear in your .mac Inbox, and with the advent of Tiger, you can send from the address, via the pull-down mentioned above.
These steps are only applicable to .mac and .mac aliases, and not other forms of alias addresses that might be written about.

  • Losing incoming email

    I've had this problem before:
Incoming email shows 19 new in the inbox, but when I click the inbox, the new mail disappears. One thing I did that might be glitch-causing was to click on the "date received" box so I could see the new mail in one large group at the end of the list. That's when they disappeared.
Is there a way to find those missing emails? They weren't in the trash. What causes this??

Here's a solution I found to work in the past. At times the UNIX permissions will get botched on not only the .mbox folder, but on all folders, files, and subfiles within an .mbox. Over a year ago in Mail, I found that emails that I knew were in a specific folder suddenly went missing - were no longer visible. But in Mail only. In the finder, I looked inside the Drafts.mbox or my Work Stuff.mbox file, and there they were: I could see all those files that were invisible to the Mail app.
What I did to solve it is the following:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. Select (for example) Inbox.mbox in your finder. Do this in the Users\~\Library\Mail\Mailboxes\[email protected]\Inbox.mbox. Or whatever .mbox folder you're finding is invisible.
    3. Get Info (+i). Click the arrow next to Ownership & Permissions to expand that section of the get info window.
    4. Make certain that Access, Access, Others ALL say "Read & Write" and the Owner and Group feature your name. You may need to click the little lock symbol to modify these drop downs. Once done...
    5. Click the button at the bottom of Ownership & Permissions that says "Apply to enclosed items..." You may need to enter your computer's username and password.
    6. Close the get info window, and check one or two subfolders/files within that .mbox folder to see if they now retain the same permissions as the parent folder. If not, then you may have to repeat this procedure again and again on all folders and files within that .mbox. I had to do this a year ago because the apply to enclosed items didn't do that.
    7. Now that you're done fixing permissions, launch Mail again and see if that folder now shows those files.

  • Problems with incoming emails

After going through tons of support discussions and trying all that i could i would like to ask your help guys.
As header suggests im having problems with incoming emails on mac mail (4.6)  (outgoing mails are working perfectly)
Yesterday evening i noticed that i cant receive emails (wheel just kept spinning without downloading anything but webmail and my phone mail app show that there are tons of unread emails)
Today around 10AM it worked for second (after messing around with settings (which i did not touched again) but when came back from lunch --- ***** not working again)
I checked that i have correct incoming & outgoing server names, correct passwords and all other settings like SSL (port995) are ok.
Confirmed from my Email Service Provider that their servers, my quota etc are working propperly
Mac mail Connection doctor does not show any red lights so it is ok
Someone said that "unable to load" can be caused by "corrupted" email and i should Rebuild my mailbox to see if if might show what message is f*** up. => did that and it just stays in "Fetching new email" and below reads "preparing to retrieve messages"   and again nothing.
I tried to make new account in Mac mail client and it is not helping ... same thing  Nothing.
I tried to install thunderbird and create new account in there, got it to work for first time i tried but result was the same ... it only downloaded some messages and stopped working.
Previously when i used to launch mac mail app on my laptop it always asked "do you want to connect to this server bla bla bla" => click ok and it downloaded everything but now i dont even get that pop-up message. (i think it disappeared after making account in thunderbird client and clicking "always trust" which did not help as it is still not downloading)
I would really appreciate your help cos im going mad with this problem and i cant get any help from my ESP
    PS. im using POP settings.
    Thank you in advance!
    Jimi

Just remembered that i took printscreen from thunderbirds error when first attempted to set up new account. And now when looking at this it is the same message that i got every time when launching mac mail client. But as said this error went away after clicking "allways trust" (it does show my ESP name and due date is sept.2013")
    And error message was
"Mail cant varify the identity of "autodiscover."mydomain"......".
The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "autodiscover....."

  • Incoming email disappears after opening.

Does anyone know why new incoming emails in .mac account would disappear right after opening?  I have searched my entire mailbox looking for them and I have to ask the sender to resend.  This is not for all new incoming emails,  it is sporadic.

There are some good ideas being tossed around here, and I'm sure everyone would agree that if it's a problem with the Yahoo! mail client or some type of security issue when receiving/viewing emails on multiple devices, the mail provider should be informed of the issue.  I found an outside resource on the Yahoo! site while researching the issue (How to report a problem). This method informs the mail provider of trends and perhaps they can make adjustments to help rectify these issues.
From what it sounds like, the issue is specific to Yahoo! and should be troubleshot, tested, adjusted, and escalated to the mail host. Perhaps there are settings that can be adjusted on the account for optimal performance on the device.
    Some other things to try:
    1) Try to download a different mail retrieval client from the Market (just type email in the search box, and you'll get plenty of hits).
    2) Try downloading the Yahoo! mail app from the Market to see if the errors persist there.
    3) Ensure mail retrieval clients accessing the same account do not interfere with the email setup on your Android device. This
mainly happens when desktop/pc software accesses the same email account as the Android device.
Please reply with any new info, troubleshooting steps, or breaking news regarding this email situation.
