FIM Licensing and Installation

Hi,
I'm sorry  for this stupid question but I have a doubt. Until now I worked in a test environment with the trial version of FIM 2010 and I didn't use any license. Now the trial version is expired. My organization bought licenses and I would like to now
how to better use them.
My test enviroment is composed of several servers: 2 of them are dedicated to FIM components (one with FIM Sychronization Service and one with the Service and the Portal).
I read about two type of licenses: CAL and 'for server'. To replicate my test environment, how many licenses do I need? I assume
2 server licenses, is it correct?. If I would simulate user provisioning from HR to Active Directory, do I need any CAL license in the test environment?
And another issue: the installation of the official version is the same of the trial version?
Can I use the same setup of the trial version? Do I need to use any certification?
The licenses that I will use in the test environment can be later used for the production environment?
Thanks in advance.

Can you clarify me the meaning of your sentence "The Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) provides licensed users the ability to access and use enterprise products covered by their subscription forDevelopment and Test purposes <../../../../wiki/cfs-file.ashx/__key/communityserver-components-sitefiles/10_5F00_external.png>
<http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/cc150618.aspx>only, not for production environments." How can I use it? Can I use it for the CAL in the test
environment? I didn't understand..
Peter is saying that a subscription to MSDN will allow you to use FIM (and
a whole lot more) in your test environment for far less money that it would
cost to purchase full FIM server licenses and CALs.
"Normally you shoud be able to use the same configuration in test /trial as in production.".. so can I use the same setup.exe of the trial version? The license request is a step of the installation of the setup.exe?
Like the vast majority of Microsoft products, licensing is done on the
"honour" system in that there are no physical licenses to install.

Yes, gladly. I am trying to install on a 13" MacBook Pro with OS X 10.8.3. I insert the disk into the SuperDrive. The I work '09 window pops up with two icons: one Tim install and one that says "Read before you install iWork." I double-click on the "Install iWork '09" icon, and a window appears that says, "This package will run a program to determine if the software can be installed." I click "continue" and see "Welcome to the iWork '09 installer." I click on "Continue." The "read me" bullet on the left lights up, and I see "Read before you install. . . ." I click "Continue," then see the software license agreement. When I click on "Continue" again, I am asked to agree, and I do. The window then says, "Standard Install on 'Mackintosh HD" and indicates how much space the program will take.
I click "Install," enter my password, and the installation begins. It goes through a validating phase and begins "writing files." It indicates that installation will take about 30 minutes (although that number fluctuates). After about four minutes it goes to "cleaning up." Then after just a few seconds, the "Summary" bullet on the left lights up and this message appears: "There were errors with the installation. You may want to try installing again." There is a large yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it, and a bold "The installation failed." Below that appears "The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
At that point, a "Close" button is pulsating blue at the bottom of the window.
Sorry for the tedious detail. Anything revealing there?
    Thanks!

  • FIM Service and Portal Installation Ends Prematurely

    Hello All,
I'm in the process of setting up a new production FIM 2010 R2 server. I have already installed the FIM synchronization service and I was able to install this successfully.
I have already installed SharePoint services (WSS 3.0) and configured it for FIM. But when I try to install the FIM Service and Portal.
I keep getting and error that says " FIM Service and Portal Installation Ends Prematurely" with no other details. If anybody has any advice please let me know.
I have already installed everything on a stand alone box in a dev environment and it all works correctly however I am unable to now install in a production environment

Cameron is right - you should consider FIMService account nearly as normal AD account for user*
An installer account should be admin on the box, where you are installing FIMService and he should be sysadmin on SQL during installation of FIMService. An installer account should be other than FIMService account itself.
    *FIMService account:
    Lock down the Service Account
The service account should not be used by any other services or users. The account must not be used to logon interactively and requires no access to any additional resources beyond those granted during setup. The service account is used to provide the security
context for the MIIS service as it accesses resources on the MIIS server and the associated database. It also provides the security context for the execution of any rules extensions.
Lock down the service account to ensure no malicious user is able to sign in using its credentials and gain access to MIIS data. Configure Group Policies to lock down the account and restrict access to this account. Since the MIIS service only needs the account
to run as a service, restrict the account as follows:
Deny logon as a batch job.
    Deny logon locally.
    Deny logon through Terminal Services.
Deny access to this computer from the network.

  • How do I manually uninstall FIM Portal and Service 2010

I installed Forefront Identity Manager 2010 as follows:
    Server 1: FIM Sync Service
Servers 2, 3: SharePoint Farm, FIM Portal and Service
I've had issues from the installation. When installing FIM Portal and Service on Server 2 it failed to recognize fim sync service on server 1. We had FIM service unavailable errors in most usage scenarios (even though asmx returned service description).
I was able to use RunAs different user to start browser as the service account used to install and run the FIM service, browse to the identity management site using
http://localhost and saw the fim portal. I was never able to see the portal using DNS address or server name from the server 2 or any other computer on the network, or using any other account (although I checked the option to
enable portal access for authenticated users).
I tried to uninstall - this went through all the steps but failed during apply and did a rollback. However, subsequent attempts to change, repair or uninstall all fail with message that the site was not found, please create it...
I would like to manually remove FIM Service and Portal and begin again. How do I manually remove FIM Service and Portal when uninstall fails?
    Thanks,
    David Saylor

Are you getting this error message while uninstalling FIM?
FIM Portal and Service is trying to find a site which is not there anymore.  Just add  the url which FIM was looking into the Central Administration >> Alternate Access Mappings
Save and exit out from Central Administration and try to uninstall now and it should work.  It worked for me.

  • Start up and Installation Issues Macbook can't run Mac os X!

I have a Macbook 1.83ghz with 2gb of ram. I upgrade the harddrive as soon as i got it used to 250gb (it was around june). In september i decided to upgrade to leopard. The installation was suscessful. Now here's the problem, at the end of November, the computer starts acting slow, still having 60gb free on each partition ( i bootcamp windows vista and divided the hd in 1/2). I decided to reinstall leopard. Installation success then two weeks before Christmas the computer gave me a repair disk and stopped booting. I repaired disk and volume was ok. I format the partition of mac os x and installation success, i go to welcome screen do the process and after clicking done then the screens stays blue, switches to gray and blue again. I left it on all night and nothing.
I tried the installation again, reformatting and the same thing, each time the welcome screen process went slower and slower. I deleted the wholes hard drive, including windows and still the same. However when i put the vista dvd it installs ok, and runs vista ok. I tried ubuntu and works ok but when I tried to install leopard now the installation fails. I don't know why it doesn't want to install mac but installs vista and ubuntu.
Can anyone help me here? Do i need to send it for repair?

Your friend if he has a disc which says any other Mac model name, or if it was made for the same Mac model on the label, but has a different operating system than shipped with your Mac, it won't work on your Mac.
If he has the full retail with the image I show above, it still is NOT legal for you to use his disc, unless you live in the same physical abode with him, and he is your family, and he has installed it on 4 or less machines, and it is the family license. Otherwise, you must purchase your own copy to stay within the law.
If you purchase your own full retail as I describe above, and you still have trouble erase and installing the operating system after backing up your data*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
It may mean your machine has a hardware problem.
Second handed discs are of unknown reliability, and should NEVER be used.

  • SOA suite: configure a new oc4j container, licensing and support

    Hi
We have a SOA suite installation (10.1.3.4).
Default installation is containing a OC4J_SOA running the esb, bpel etc.
Now we have a java ear (java web service), and would like to deploy this to a dedicated oc4j container.
So we want to configure a new oc4j instance named oc4j_jws.
Actually, we have already done this, and it is looking good.
Now I only want to make sure the configuration of a new oc4j container is not violating any licensing and support agreements.
    We have soa suite license.
I believe a soa suite license allows for configuration of additional oc4j containers.

The adding of oc4j instances is at least well documented within the Oracle Application Server Administrator's Guide:

  • I bought a second license and I can't find the serial number, I have tried to contact adobe like 4 times and got no luck. Any help on where to find it? is it the same serial as the first copy we have?

I bought a second license and I can't find the serial number, I have tried to contact adobe like 4 times and got no luck. Any help on where to find it? is it the same serial as the first copy we have?

    Hello,
This order no is for subscription of Adobe Captivate 8. In order to install subscription you need not to enter any serial key .During the installation it will prompt you to enter your Adobe Id and it will validate your subscription after validating your Adobe Id from the server. I mean you have to sign in with your Adobe Id during the installation which you have used at the time of purchasing the subscription.
So for installation and activation you dont need any serial key . Just sign in and it will automatically activate your subscription .
For more information on subscription please click on the link below.

  • BerkeleyDB licensing and inclusion (or exclusion) in a product.

We have a product that uses Berkeley DB.
For the licensing issue, are we allowed to include the appropriate shared libraries and executable BDB binary utilities in our "ship group"? No source code, no headers, no objects.
Or should we just tell them to get the specified BDB version from the download site?
Would prefer to include the shared libs and binaries if possible.
Please, I would like to hear the answer from one of the Berkeley members here.
Yes, I could just go read the licensing documents, but I'm not a lawyer, and just want to do the right thing here.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Jim,
    Again, for the record, IANAL.
I cannot speak for all the open source licenses or their intentions, the GPL in particular, I can only talk about how I view the Sleepycat License in a non-legally binding manner. Please consult a lawyer and understand that I'm just summarizing some history below, nothing else.
The goal of the Sleepycat License is, and has always been, to allow those who build and redistribute open source applications to use Berkeley DB. The license is viral in that it clearly states that if you redistribute an application which uses DB you need to either be a) open source or b) be commercially licensed as a pre-condition to redistribution to 3rd parties. Your product uses DB, or at least it can use DB to add features and functionality when present, you could disable that ability. Your application is redistributed to 3rd parties. This then (IMHO & IANAL) triggers the license requirement that you a) open source your application code (ostensibly under an OSI approved license) and b) make that code readily available to all who seek to find it (place it on a server for easy download and make sure it is easy to find that page using an average search engine or the like) or purchase a commercial license from Oracle. The issue of who downloads, compiles, installs Berkeley DB is irrelevant, or at least it was never intended to be at issue (DB is found on most NIX systems by default and is easily installed using automated package managers as a dependency of some other application such as OpenLDAP).  Rather IMHO it is the redistributed application using DB, the one compiled against the db.h header and linked with libdb (dynamically or statically), that is at question wrt "redistribution".  Your application fits this case as it is redistributed to 3rd parties, it has the ability to use DB, yet it is not open source.  This is in conflict with the spirit* of the license, but IANAL (or a representative of Oracle's Legal team or representing their position on this matter) so I cannot defend the legalities involved in the terms of the license itself.
In my (non-legal, non-Oracle representative, non-binding) opinion it comes down to this, Berkeley DB is valuable to you and to us. The Sleepycat License has always been intended to support the open source community while allowing us to make a living selling commercial licenses. You make money from your code because it is valuable to your customers, we want to do the same for the same reasons (which only seems fair). What you're doing may be legal (I don't know because again, IANAL), and I can't fault you for trying to find a ways to cut costs for you and/or your customers, but how would you feel if you were on the other side of this conversation?
In the end, if your application requires Berkeley DB, but you do not ship Berkeley DB to your customer, you should consult with your company's legal counsel to determine whether or not you are in compliance with the terms of the public (Sleepycat) license for Berkeley DB.

  • Java Licensing changing installation number

    Hi all,
we have changed contract and moved a Netweaver Java installation into a new server. The license check fails since the hardaware is changed.
I have asked a new license key but it does not work since the system was installed in a different installation number.
Do you know if there is a way to install a new license with a different installation number ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Andrea

If you change the hardware, the hardware key changes and you need to apply for a new license. But in the meantime you can use a temp license. SAP note 174911 explains this.
The change in the installation number also implies a change of the license and possibly a migration key for the secure storage of the system, as described in note 816861.

  • Need to purchase Office 2003 single license and downloadable file

Does anybody know where I can buy a legitimate license for MS Office 2003 Standard Edition and a downloadable installation file?
    Thank you

I know it's for developers who because of the MSDN subscription have access to those licenses and could sell one to me, right?
It's against the terms of use of MSDN to sell or otherwise transfer licenses. Office 2003 has been off mainstream support since 1/13/2009, so I do not think you will be able to buy a legitimate license.
If you really need a license for some reason, I think you will need to purchase an MSDN subscription of your own.

  • Windows Server 2012 Standard License and VMs

    Hi,
With one Window server 2012 Standard activated license, I will get 2 VMs. So is there a limit with Windows Server 2012 standard license I can stack and the the number of VMs I can create on one server or across servers (virtual environment). Consider that
all Windows server 2012 standard licenses are activated. If there is no limit on VM creation by add Standard license then why did Microsoft come with Data center licenses with unlimited VMs.
How does the standard license work on Vmware environment. Is there a limit on the number for VMs that we can create.
    Please advise me.
    Thanks.

If i had one server 2012 standard with its key, i could run it as a vm but not as a virtual host without having the license right?
a single WS2012STD license, allows you to run a server machine (hardware), if that hardware has no more than 2 processors. In this case, you can run 2 VMs, each VM is running WS2012STD. You can also run WS2012STD as the host hypervisor via Hyper-V.
So, that's really 3 OS installations, on the same 2proc machine. The limitation is that the host hypervisor OS is only permitted to do Hyper-V stuff, it's not permitted to use that OS for anything other than hypervisor functions.
If you implement in this way, you would only have purchased a single license for WS2012STD, so you would only have a single key, so you would use that key for the 3 OS installations.
If i bought the single server 2012 standard license, i'd be able to install it as a Host and activate with the key and it'd give me rights to run 2vms on it and for those vms i would have to have 2 keys to activate after installing server 2012 standart
    software on them right?
     see above.
if you buy via Volume Licensing, things change a little bit due to MAK/KMS keys (it gets a whole lot simpler :)
Sorry for being unclear on the clusters part, i meant HA/failover. we have 2 2008R2 enterprise servers in cluster with shared storage and i was trying to clarify how could i add more vms there.
assuming your failover solution involves traditional server hardware, each failover node is just another hardware machine, so, for each node you have to count up the procs and VMs, just as you would do for non-failover implementations.
if a server is installed and running/executing, it needs to be licensed.
with current configuration, each server is hosting 2vms and if anything happens single host can accommodate all four. I am assuming we have 2 enterprise licenses for them, but if i wanted to run 4vms on each host, we have to buy 2 more enterprise licenses
and install vm togerther with their keys?
There is no Enterprise for WS2012? (WS2012 has STD and DCE)
do you mean as in WS2008R2ENT ?
You can re-assign licenses from one machine to another machine (under the Volume Licensing terms. I'm not sure about Retail terms, you should check that). There are limitations on how often you can reassign licenses (no more than every 90days)
If hardware "fails", you are allowed to reassign the license in a shorter period than 90days.

“Microsoft Office has encountered a problem with licensing and will need to close. If this problem persists, uninstall and reinstall your product.”What can i do to make it work fine back? plssss need Help! thank u i n advance!!!!!!

I faced similar challenge. Re-installation did not solve the problem due to unsuccessful un-installation of ‘Microsoft Click to run 2010’. The following steps worked for me. Please use your discretion to try and see if it works for you too..
1 Uninstall Microsoft office Starter 2010. If
‘MS click to run 2010’ doesn't get uninstalled use  Microsoft fix it tool meant for installing and uninstalling programmes, to uninstall the same.
2 Download ‘Microsoft Office Starter 2010’ from internet.
3 Before launching, right click the executable file and click the 'properties'. Go to
‘compatability’ tab and choose appropriate 'compatibility mode' as per your OS. Tick the check box to use admin privilege under
    privilege level section.
4 Launch the executable to install Microsoft Office Starter 2010 afresh. It should go through four steps during installation now. Complete the steps and enjoy. Thanks !
