Final Cut Express HD (Universal)

Hey,
Now with Final Cut Pro Studio 5.1 out when will the Universal version of Final Cut Express HD be available? There is a lot of us who cannot afford the full "pro" version so it would be nice if Apple was speedy at this.
Will we have LiveType still bundled? Having LiveType running Universal who be absolutely essential IMO.
Chris

There will be no UB version of FCE HD. FCE4 will be UB. Whether it will include LiveType no one knows. The current version of LT has been made UB, so it if it is included, it's already done.
All the best,
Tom

  • Final Cut Express with Universal Control Surface?

I would like to buy Final Cut Express. I want to use a universal control surface such as the Tascam FW1082 with my editing. I know the FC Pro has control surface compatibility, but does the new FC Express?

True but Apple will not support Mac Mini and MacBook's for some stupid reason.

My Final Cut Express 3.5 will not install onto my new macbook pro 10.8.4
Seems like an awful waste of money...
Does anybody know of a way around this?

There is a bug in the installer program that will not allow it to install into a Lion or Mt. Lion Mac.  However FCE 3.5 is a Universal app, which will run on Intel Macs without reference to Rosetta.
Due to its age, there may be some incongruities in this program when run in Lion or Mt. Lion.

How recently did you purchase this program; and did you purchase it new?  Have you been able to get use from this purchase on your previous Mac?

There are two methods to install FCE 3.5 into your Mt. Lion Mac:
    1)  Use Pacifist
    2)  Use Jeremy Johnstone's Terminal method for FCS2, but modified for use with FCE 3.5 (if you are able to figure out those modifications):

Also I wanted to point out that you're in the Final Cut Express forum asking about Final Cut Pro. Not a huge deal but in the future you might get better results asking Final Cut Pro related questions in the Final Cut Pro forum.

Your HP runs Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro faster?!? Huh...Bwa?!?

  • I just bought final cut express 4 Academic and it fails downloading!!!

I just bought final cut express 4 at my Sister's university. They have a mac store there and the listed price for FCE 4 was $70, so i bought it. After opening it the download failed. What do I do?! Please help!

Hello and welcome to the forum.
What download? Do you mean the installation failed? You need to contact Apple with installation issues. Before doing that, it might be worthwhile to completely uninstall FCE, use Disk Utility to repair your permissions, then reboot. Here's a free utility to help with the uninstall. (http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm)
You need to be doing the installation and first run of the software from an Admin account on your Mac.

  • Final Cut Express 4 motion keyframing

I'm thoughly famaliar with FCP6, but haven't seen Final Cut Express since FCE Version 2.
I've been asked to teach FCE4 to a friend, but haven't seen it yet and am trying to prepare.
Is motion keyframing (scaling, cropping) handled the same way in FCE4 as it is in FCP6
(ie. in the motion tab of the Viewer), or do you have to do it in the timeline overlay area?
    Thanks.
    Message was edited by: brvideo

Yes, FCE4 handles keyframing the same way as FCP6. You can do it in the motion tab of the viewer or by clicking the keyframe button in the canvas to add a universal keyframe to all motion parameters. You can do the scaling, cropping, etc. in the motion tab or in the canvas if it is in Image+Wireframe mode.

  • Importing Video Files from DVD and the net onto final cut express 4

    2 questions:
1st: Ive imported a video file downloaded from the net to practice editing, but once I have done that, the video file has no audio? how do I get the audio for those files?
2nd: I had ripped some video files from my university film project onto my laptop, but I cant Import the files into final cut express to further edit it (because it was a group project), because its the wrong format and stuff. How do I fix this and allow it to be imported?
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Cheers

ohk cool, wat about my first problem with the sound not being imported?
Most likely the file is multiplexed. That means the audio and video are rolled into one. Same thing applies as the other post, the file needs to be in a format that FCE recognizes. Streamclip may do it, depending on the type of file of course.

  • Premiere Elements 8 to Final Cut Express Workflow

Working on a series of videos that will require creating offline of interviews in PE 8 then sending to finish (b-roll, titles, etc) on a Final Cut Express (Mac) system. My b-roll shots are recorded at AVCHD 1920v1080i.
Any thought on what format I can save my interviews at that would allow for FC to use and also bring in b-roll shots?

I would recommend ideally Share/Computer/MPEG at the 1440x1080 30i. This creates an .mts HDV video, ideal for working in high def.
In version 10 there are also some AVC output options you could use. But the .mts is a good, universal format for hi-def.

  • Can't get Final Cut Express to work on my I Mac desktop

    Hi All,
I just purchased an I Mac - the first in my life. I simply couldn't get Final Cut express to work on my station cos it keeps telling me I need Accelerated Graphics Port. I wonder what it is. My Mac fulfills all the specs for Final Cut Express to work, but it keeps prompting me that I need the AGP when I click on the icon. If you have any clue and even bette, the remedy, can you please drop me a msg here, thanks!

I guess you purchased the Intel based iMac, but you have Final Cut Express version 3.0 or older. This version is for older Macs based on PowerPC.
If this is the case, as a temporary solution you may simply bypass the AGP error message by pressing ESC when this appears, and then you'll be able to work with FCE 3.0, even though emulated by Rosetta.
The best solution is to upgrade to FCE 3.5 (99$) that is Universal and works natively on Intel.
In any case if you look for AGP in this forum you'll find many posts on this topic.

  • HT3835 Will final cut express 3.5 run on the newer mac os 10.8 or 10.9?

I am going to be purchasing a MacBook Pro when the newest model is released. I am wondering if I can run my Final Cut Express 3.5 with the latest operating system.

I've been using it with Lion and Mountain Lion and it is working well. It was updated to 3.5.1 via Software Update.
However, you will have a problem with the installer as I got the "PPC applications are not supported" when I tried to install it in Lion after doing a fresh install (although FCE is a Universal application, the installer appears to be PPC). So, I followed the file locations in this article and moved every file from my Snow Leopard partition to the Lion partition into the same folder/location. Restarted and it has been working since.

  • Final Cut Express HD and the Macbook Pro

I just purchased a Macbook Pro along with final cut express HD. After purchase I read that FCE HD won't work with the macbook pro. I was hoping to see if anyone knew if they were coming out with an upgrade to the universal version like they are with Final Cut Pro.
Intel based macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

That will not work. Ian's solution is for dual core G5s and PCIe based iMacs. It does not address Intel based machines like the 2006 iMac and the MacBook Pro. These machines will have to wait till the end of March for the release of new Universal Binary software to run on them. It's possible FCE3 will never run and will need to be upgraded to another version. If you recently purchased FCE HD to run it on this new computer, I'd suggest, if you can, to return it until the position on the new software becomes clear.

  • NEW MACBOOK DOES NOT SUPPORT FINAL CUT EXPRESS!!!

I just got my new MacBook 13" and tranferred all my files/applications from my older iMac (purchased 2004). When i try and open Final Cut Express, i receive the messege 'needs AGP graphics card'
I dont have access to the internet and so cannot receive an upgrade on my F.C.E.... and i bought the laptop specifically to do my editing on the move!!!
Its rediculous, why didnt the guy who i bought it from tell me, even tho he asked what i'd use it for and i told him!
has anyone got any suggestions? anything at all!!
(and ps: can you BUY such a card? if so, how much am i looking at? I seriously cannot afford anything after buying this laptop!)
    Im despairing and freaking out!
    Help!
    Thanks

    Lara,
I don't use Final Cut Express, however, based on the information that you've provided, you're attempting to use a Power PC Based version of FCE, not Universal. Your iMac was most likely a G5? Your new MacBook is an Intel. Different processors.
In order to use Final Cut Express on your MacBook, most likely you're going to need to upgrade FCE.
To answer your last question, there's no option for purchasing a graphics card for the MacBook.

  • Installing Final Cut Express on a new iMac

I have been using Final Cut Express HS 3.5 since 2006.  My old iMac died, and in trying to reinstall the program on the new iMac, I am told that Power PC products are no longer supported.
Is there a workaround or solution?  I really don't want to buy the program all over again.

Here is the skinny on FCE 3.5 in Mavericks on your new iMac:
    1)  FCE 3.5 is a Universal app that will run on Intel Macs; it is not PowerPC and does not require Rosetta.  See:
    http://roaringapps.com/
    2)  Similar to FCP 6, there is a "bug" in the installer app that generates the "PowerPC" dialog box and prevents its installation in Mavericks.  Use one of these two methods to install FCE 3.5:
    A) Pacifist - http://www.charlessoft.com/
    B) Use the Terminal method described by Jeremy Johnstone on his blog:
