Financial Reports Formatting

Hi
In HFR.
Forulae Row9 = DataRow1/FormulaeRow/3
Forulae Row10 = DataRow2/FormulaeRow/3
FormulaeRow/3 = Constant Values
Forulae Row11 = Difference (row9,row10)
I have formatted Row11 RED color for -ve values .............but the report is not showing the -ve values in () in RED.
How can we solve this.
Thanks

Hi,
Difference is a mathematical function that returns the absolute value of the difference of a numeric value.
For example, Difference (3, 5) returns the absolute value 2.
So try this one-
for Row 11 = Row[9]-Row [10]
and apply the formatting for negative number.
Hope it will help you.
Thanks and Regards,
Mohit Jain

    Hi,
Thanks for your response... but I am looking for option like "Auto Fit"(what we have in Planning web form to formate the columns) with that we can give respective column size based on length of the string each column contains... If there is any option in FR then let me know.

  • Financial Reporting in Answers

    Hi all,
It was said (see OBI EE 10gR3 New Features White Paper) that we could create requests in Answers formated in a style similar to the Financial Reports format.
Unfortunately, i haven't discovered such functionalities in Answers...
Can you shed some light on this?
    Thanks in advance,

Yes. It is achieved using Pivot Tables. They have added a lot more options in Pivot views in 10gR3. You can closely mimic a financial report. But if you want very highly formatted reports, you need to use BI Publisher. And BI Publisher reports can be integrated into dashboards.

    hello,
    just to clarify
    a) the parameter is named DESFORMAT not :DESFORMAT, there is
no : in front of the name, if you submit it via URL !
    b) there are some issues with acrobat5 and IE but those are not
only caused by PDFs generated with oracle reports.

  • How to get XML format output from Hyperion Financial Reporting

    Dears,
We are using Hyperion Financial Reporting to replace FSG in fusion. I found that Hyperion FR report can be exported to html/excel/pdf format. However, I would like the report to export to xml format. It means I only need the xml data source.
Anyone who knows how to get the xml format output from Hyperion FR, is there any avaiable API?

I think if you export the report, you will be able to open the .des file in Notepad/Wordpad and see xml content.

  • Change formatting of table of contents in Hyperion Financial Reporting

    Hi
We're using Hyperion Financial Reporting to generate carefully formatted books of reports. Users complain about the default table of contents in these books, specifically:
--> formatting: the basic text-only, portrait-only, formatting does not fit with the "look and feel" of reports within the books.
--> placement: the fact that it doesn't seem possible to place anywhere within a book, apart from as the first page (they like a title page to sit at the front of a book of reports).
--> content: having a limited options for defining the text identifying each item within the table of contents. For example, the same combination of dimension members appear for each item in the table of contents, so the first few items look something like:
    Report1_Label
    Dimension2_Label, Dimension1_Label, Dimension3_Label, Dimension4_Label ....................1
    Report2_Label
    Dimension3_Label, Dimension1_Label, Dimension4_Label, Dimension2_Label ....................2
I remember reading somewhere that it's possible to define custom table of contents. Has anyone had any experience of hacking this? Where can I find relevant documentation on defining custom table of contents?
Grateful if anyone has any advice.
    Thanks
    Nathan

    Hi Nathan
I've never done this before but there is a section in the Financial Reporting Workspace Administrators Guide (chapter 5). However this involves accessing the css style sheets and in my experience this can have unwanted and unexpected effects in other areas. It does appear to be fairly well documented though in this case so perhaps it is more reliable in this instance.
It does specifically mention HTML format and not PDF format so if you are publishing to PDF it is worth checking the impact on that too. Take a look at the attached for version 11.1.2 but I'm fairly sure this was available in earlier versions too.

  • Financial Reporting Reports Formatted Differently in PDF

    Hello all -
I am working in a 11.1.2.1 environment. When I view Financial Reporting Studio reports in HTML, they appear formatted as I expect them to. When I view the same reports in PDF, it seems to drop any bolding or italicizing I do on the headers or in text boxes. The behavior is the same regardless of if I create the report from scratch or work with an existing report. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
    Thanks,
    Sarah

In case anyone else is experiencing this issue - we were able to solve this issue by applying patch 11.1.2.1.104. A word to the wise though - while it fixed the font difference issue, the patch spawned an Oracle-recognized bug that causes report books to ignore any Book POV and use the User POV when it is run. Whichever bug you are more comfortable with, I suppose. :)

  • Financial Reporting not retaining Formatting

    Hi
I am facing issue with retrieving HFR from R&A framework . When I open financial report from Excel using R&A framework of Smart view I am losing some of the formatting e.g. in my report missing data is dsiplayed as '-' but when I open it in excel it is showing it as '0.00' and in Red ( which is formatting for negative number).
    Anyone faced similar issue ?

    Hi,
Internet Explorer 10.x is supported only in 11.1.2.3.500
Can you please try with latest smartview version and lower version (< IE10) see.
Can you also check in smartview using essbase data connection with same intersection are able to view the data properly.
    regards,

  • Attaching a financial report URL to planning tasklist 11.1.2.3

Hi I have tried in 11.1.2.3 to attach a URL (Smartcut of a financial report) to an item in a Planning tasklist.
from there i got the following message:
" EPM Workspace cannot function inside of a frame. Contact your system administrator."
So i found a first workaround based on this article of the knowledge base
How to Open Planning Task List and Menu Items (Financial Reporting or Web Analysis) Within a Workspace Tab (Doc ID 1339568.1)
which suggests to encode the smartcut url and attach a customized version.
This solution in my case worked for a couple of days and than not anymore: Now i get half of the initial message only:
" EPM Workspace cannot function inside of a frame."
and at times a pop up which wants me to leave this page to open the report. If i follow it the report opens on a new window and my planning/workspace application where i came from closes..
I'm completely lost on this one and oracle support as well. Anybody discovered another way?

    Hi Celvin,
i am a fan of your blog and i want to thank you for posting this here but it was DJSmeadly that gave me a push to try / test again in several ways.
turns out that it works without any pop-ups and strange messages (not even to leave the page and so on) for me using this format:
    http://server.XX.XXXXXX.com:19000/workspace%2Fbrowse%2Fget%2FNameFolder_Budget%2FFinancial_Reports%2FTotal_Budget_Overview%2FBudget_Overview
so thanks for responsing to this thread and giving the motivation to give it another try!
Hope i can help more people as well

  • Warning message when exporting a Financial Report to Excel 2007

Excel 2007 users that attempt to export a fully formatted Financial Report into Excel 2007 get the following error message:
"The file you are trying to open, 'FileName.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?"
I am still researching the behavior that users get when they click through the message, but would ideally like for the message not to appear without updating the client machine registries. Has anybody else run across this?
    Excel 2007
    BI Plus version: 9.3.1.0.0.248

It looks like this is a known issue addressed in Bug 7359171 - EXPORT TO EXCEL 2007 CAUSES FILE FORMAT WARNING:
The current design does not allow you to open HTML content from a web site in Excel unless the extension of the URL is .HTM/.HTML/.MHT/.MHTML. So ASP pages that return HTML and set the MIME type to something like XLS to try to force the HTML to open in Excel instead of the web browser (as expected) will always get the security alert since the content does not match the MIME type. If you use an HTML MIME type, then the web browser will open the content instead of Excel. So there is no good workaround for this case because of the lack of a special MIME type for HTML/MHTML that is Excel specific. You can add your own MIME type if you control both the web server and the client desktops that need access to it but, otherwise the best option is to use a different file format or alert your users of the warning and tell them to select Yes to the dialog.
    Another Workaround :
    Client Configuration of Extension Hardening.
Client desktops can change the default behavior of the security check using a registry key. The following registry key can be set to alter the behavior ofthe Excel 2007 client in the following ways:
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Excel\SecurityValue: (DWORD)"ExtensionHardening" = [0 = Disable check; 1 = Enable check and prompt; 2 = Enable check, no prompt deny open]Default setting if value not present is 1 (enable and prompt).
The client can configure the site to disable the check by setting ExtensionHardening = 0. This will stop the prompt from appearing, but it will also disable any future checks for the file content validity. This does not (in itself) lower your security. The check is part of a defense-in-depth strategy to prevent malicious users from crafting files of a different type than its extension (or MIME type), which could then be used to trick users into opening a file of a type they did not expect. This warning is designed to let the user know of this potential threat and given them an option of canceling the open if they wish.

  • Problem exporting a Financial Report to excel

    Hello Everyone,
Of several users who have tested this functionality, I only have 1 user who is experiencing this problem, however we can't figure out what's wrong... Here is what is happening:
    1. Run a financial report from the web-portal using HTML preview
    2. Once the report is displayed in HTML, he goes to File | export | fully formated excel file (he also tried with the query ready report and had the same problem)
    3. he is prompted to either save or open this xml file
    4. he selects open, he gets an excel window and is prompted with the following: "Please select how you would like to open this file:" and the radio button options are: "as an xml list", "As a read-only workbook", "use the xml source task pane".
    5. he selects "as an xml list" he then is prompted with the following: "The specified source does not refer to a schema. Excel will create a schema based on the xml source data."
    6. he clicks on "ok" and the result is what looks like an excel pivot table except is says "error" in one of the cells and then an adjacent cell says: Logon Failed. User Name must not be empty.
No matter which combination of the options he chooses, he sees the same result.
In addition, I know it is not a problem with his ID b/c he can run the report AND export to excel just fine when he does it from my computer!
Has anyone seen this problem before? Is this maybe a setting that needs to be changed? etc...?
FYI - we are in the final stages of migrating to system 9 so our current configuration is as follows: Financial Reports / Workspace version 9.3.1 however his run time client on is version 7.1.2 and the essbase cube is version 9.3.1. I have several other people who have run the same report, against the same essbase cube, also using the ver 7 RTC and it works fine.
    Any ideas???
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Financial Reports

    Hi.
I am new to Crystal Reports and hope someone out there with experience writing P&L reports can help with this:  We are planning to use Crystal Reports a our reporting engine for all of our financial reports.   I am trying to distinctly identify columns that sit side by side on the same report.  We have an 18-column P&L report in which there is a column for every calendar month which is to be populated by either the  "actual amount"  or the forecasted amount,  a total yr actual/forecast column, a total yr budget column a total last year column, plus 2 variance columns.  (The first column is for the line item description.)  I am unable to get just the "actuals" to work on this report:    When I try to define each column as equal to the amount associated with a specific "GL_Period",  where "2007-12", "2007-11" are stored values in the GL_Period field, the previous column's select statement is overwritten with the current column's select statement, resulting in duplicate data, not comparative data.  We have also thought of creating a view, but 72 columns (the actuals columns for current year and prior year are actually each made up of 2 columns, a debit amount and a credit amount)  doesn't sound like the best way to go about this).
What really bothers me is I want to write this report using crosstabs, but what I run into there is crosstabs wants to sort the line descriptions alphabeticallythere is a  unique line # associated with each line description, I would like to present the line descriptions on the report but sort by the line number.  (I understand that you can "specify" the line number, but our "detail" 12 period  P& L report has 649 lines!!Its sort of a detail P&L trial balance by account and department)
If anyone has an easy solution to either of these questions, I would love to hear it.

The reports in the financial tab are exactly what I feel I should be creating--they are done in crosstabs.  However, I need something to bridge me from the tutorial crosstab report (which is not anything like a financial report) to the financial report and I didn't get enough information from chapter 17 on crosstabs to get there.  Most general ledgers these days are designed along similar lines.  Isn't there someone else out there who is creating financial reports in Crystal where it is fairly common to have several columns of information all related to the same row (year over year, budget actual, month to month, current month to year to date?
In the example below, the amount or "XX" fields come from the same table or are calculated.  I am using a budget/actual format instead of  the 16-column discussed above as the problem is the same:  I am going to the same field in the general ledger table, the "period" field, and attempting to select it differently for two different columns.  With the "current month" vs year-to-date, I am trying to add up all of the months selected for the year to date, but only use one month for the current month.  So far I can do either, but not both?  Should I set this up as 2 separate subreports that would be presented side by side (vertically)?   Still won't answer the 12 period question, though.Example:
Cur Mo Act   Cur Mo Bud  Diff      YTD Act   YTD Bud   Diff
Revenues        XXXXX                 XXXXX    (XX)        XXXXX       XXXXX     XXX
COGS                XXX                    XXX      XX        XXXXX       XXXXX    XXXX
SGA                   XXX                   XXX        X         XXXXX      XXXXX      XXX
Net Income        XXXX                   XXX      XX         XXXXX      XXXXX        XX

  • Financial Reporting in BI. Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss

    Hello Gurus,
    Background
I have a problem in finacial reports esp. Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss reports. When SAP ERP implemented, they have designed the FSV according to the country accounting and business requirements for external reporting. But the regional financial office in the UK requires a different way of reporting esp. the break up of costs in P&L.
As a solution they, non BI and Management have suggsted to design these reports Balance Sheet and P&L in BI and change the design as per the requirement for UK office. i.e For P&L combine FI and CCA queries.
    Problem
My problem is, the queries are designed as GL Account Heirarchies and that are static. So for any GL I need to open the Query (FI) and add the GL into the specific group and any new Cost Center I need to open CCA Query and update Cost Center and Cost Elements manually. After adding the GL I need to reconcile both reports...etc It takes half day or full day sometimes to reconcile the reports.
P&L Report is designed as a workbook having three sheets. This workbook has two queris , FI and CCA. Both of them static heirarchy (user defined). So GL Grouping is maintained manually. The third sheet, has the layout and formula to fetch the values from the other two sheets.
Also Balance sheet workbook is having two sheets. The query is having 0GL_Account heirarchy. So when a new GL is added, I need to change the formulas on the other sheet which displays the Balance Sheet in the required format.
    My questions
What is the best practice for month end / year end financial reports?
How you have designed the P&L and Balance sheet in BI?
    Do you maintain GLs manually?
How can I re-design this reports so that I need not spend a signle minute of them on every month end / year end.
    Regards
    MultiABAP

To be honnest, I didn't fully understand your case, but I got the general logic.
I would say that you first need to harmonize your data and apply to them the group business rules before doing your reporting. This can be done by different ways. The best one according to me is to define a consolidation chart of accounts (based on the group policy) and mapp these accounts to the operational accounts automatically using BI transformations. Then you'll be able to define your reportings based on this harmonized referential.

  • Financial reporting studio - Invalid Picture

    Hi;
I am trying to add a new logo into one of our reports (Oracle Hyperion Financial reporting studio, Fusion Edition), however after inserting the new image I get the following error message " Invalid Picture".
I have changed the format of the picture (jpg, gif, bmp, png) but nothing seems to work.
The size of the file is just 22k.
    Thanks heaps;
    Merv

    no,
I get the error message when add the image (Inser-> Image) on the header area.
Once I save my changes (after getting the error message) the preview only shows a little box with the word image and the letter X (Image x) where the picture supposed to be.
The rest of the report looks ok.
It is like the picture is there but the system cannot read it or something.
This is an existing report which already had a logo, I deleted the existing Logo as I am trying to replace it with the new one.
