Firefox 35 not recognizing user.js prefs

I've used a user.js file for a long time. Until recently (Fx 35?) it always obeyed the prefs in user.js.
I created a new, <b>clean</b> (test) profile to use w/ Fx 35 & imported user.js from old profile.
Then launched Fx w/ the new profile (no addons).
Browser behavior doesn't follow the prefs in user.js.
I checked prefs.js & it shows the <u>same prefs</u> as in user.js, that's in the same profile.
Like, user.js has: "user_pref("browser.urlbar.trimURLs", false);.
And prefs.js in the new profile shows that also, but Fx still trims the "http" off of URLs.
Same w/ the user.js entry: user_pref("browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab", false);.
It still closes Fx if last tab is closed (unless I change it in about:config).
I even created a new user.js file, copied contents from old one & saved into the new profile. No change.
Any ideas?

Thanks. I created (another) new, blank file & set it to javascript (using Notepad++ editor).
Then copied all entries from old user.js to new file. Saved it to a new profile - Notepad++ verified the ext. '''was *.js''' (under "save as type").
That replaced the existing user.js in this profile (in root folder of the profile, along w/ prefs.js).
Restarted Fx using the new profile & new user.js. Some of the same user.js prefs still aren't '''used by Fx''' (like: user_pref("browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab", false);.
Because, the pref in about:config isn't being changed from True to False (& prefs.js isn't picking up the entry from user.js).
And, after starting Fx w/ the new(est) user.js, the prefs.js '''didn't have''' that entry from the user.js: user_pref("browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab", false);.
Prefs.js should be picking up the user.js entries, once Fx is restarted - yes? Maybe I need to delete the prefs.js (from new profile), and just restart Fx - with only the user.js in it?
I assume Fx would then create a new prefs.js, and ? should also pick up entries from user.js?
Here's contents of newly created user.js (saved as a javascript file).

  • IBook TrackPad not recognized in System Prefs?

    Hello,
I have the Mid-2005 1.42ghz iBook. It's a great machine that I love except for one thing....the scrolling TrackPad. It does not work and is not recognized in System Preferences. It does not show up under Keyboard & Mouse. I've taken the top-case off to check the cables and they all looked tight and even replaced the top-case with a new one and it still doesn't work. I've used the 10.4.4 Tiger install discs as that is what it was shipped with. I'm out of ideas here and am hoping that someone can help me. I've resorted to using a mouse along side of it and it's aggravating. Please don't tell me "Logic Board Replacement." Thanks!

    Hey PM and Cornelius,
Well the first thing that comes to mind is that the track pad, keyboard, power and charger are all controlled by that PMU99 that I've been bugging everyone about.
    Here's my other post:
"There's been a lot of problems lately on this group with the above mentioned issues. It could be a PMU problem. The PMU is actually a tiny computer within the computer. It's official designation is PMU99.
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/DeveloperNotes/Macintosh_CPUs-G4/12inchPowerBookG4/2_Architecture/chapter_3_section4.html
    "Power Control IC
The power manager IC in the 12-inch PowerBook G4 is a Mitsubishi M16C/62F microprocessor, also called the PMU99. It operates with its own RAM and ROM. The functions of the PMU99 include:
*controlling the sleep and power on and off sequences
    *real time clock
*controlling power to the other ICs
    *monitoring the battery charge level
    *controlling battery charging
*supporting the interface to the built-in keyboard ( and trackpad )
The 12-inch PowerBook G4 can operate from a 15-volt power outlet on an airliner, however for safety reasons the computer will not allow battery charging. In order for the computer to detect the connection to airline power, the airline power cable should have a sense resistor of 24.3K ohms connected between the power plug's shell and ground.
The PMU99 also provides the hardware interface to the keyboard. Software in the PMU99 IC scans the keyboard, then sends the data to the system in packets like those from the ADB. To the system, the keyboard behaves as if they were ADB devices"
    Try resetting it:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
If that doesn't work try what I call a deep PMU reset.
Pull all power including the battery, push the power button to remove residual charge in soft start capacitors.
Then walk away from it for at least 10 hours.
Now PMU99 has been responsible for soft start in Macs apparently since the first G3s and run all the way thru the G5s. From:
    http://www.theapplemuseum.com/index.php?id=30
    "Power Macintosh G3/G4/G5 clock/softstart chip: PMU99"
So this deep reset has worked for G3s going back to the Beige and recently a G4 Sawtooth with a 1.5 GB CPU upgrade.
I've also seen problems with the super capacitors that sort of take the place of the PMU battery but that has been on older G3s. These are there to hold settings during battery swaps and not sure what else. I've seen two go open but am not sure what that would mean to all the PMU functions. If it shorted I could see that as a real problem."

  • Firefox does not redirect users to web auth page

I have a client that uses web auth for the guest wireless.  When a users opens up FF, it does not automatically redirect them to the web auth page.  However, IE and Chrome work fine.  If you copy and paste the redirection page into FF, it will go to the page then.  The only two possible solutions I have found are to either enable web auth proxy or regenerate the WLC self-signed cert.
    Anyone have any other ideas?
    TIA,
    Dan

I've been trying to figure out a very similar issue where Firefox wouldn't open the guest webpage (the connection was interrupted) and finally found it was caused by opening Yahoo as my startup page. I change it to Google, for example, and it comes up everytime now. When set to Yahoo I could clear my cache and it would work once but then wouldn't work again. If I load Yahoo as the startup page in IE it works everytime. Very strange.
Here's what the debug looks like:

  • I have Firefox installed on both desktop and laptop. Firefox is NOT recognizing my settings (to open with previous tabs, etc) on the desktop only. How do I fix this.

I have opened/closed browser numerous times, after "updating" and resetting my preferences. The settings "match" on laptop and desktop. Laptop works like a charm; desktop not at all.

Since you have encountered the problem at other sites, not just Firefox, I'd bet that it is an Internet Explorer problem, not the web sites. Actually, I am sure it is an IE problem.
Try running Windows Update, perhaps there are some updates for Internet Explorer that might resolve the problem. If you don't know how to run Windows Update, use the Help on your system to look for information on Windows Update.
If that does not help, use Google to search for information on IE9 locking up when downloading.

  • Firefox is not recognizing my version 15.0 flash player

Hi. Today I was having trouble with Firefox being sluggish and crashing/freezing every time I played a Facebook game. It kept telling me to download the updated flash which I have done about 6 times today. It still will not recognize I have it. I looked in my control panel under Flash and I see the following: Active X version 15.0.0.0.152 NPAPI plug in version 15.0.0.152. PPAPI plug in version not installed. (I looked that up and it seems that is not for my Windows XP. The flash player I installed was 15X32_mssd_aaa_aih(i).exe. That is the manual I was asked to download on support.mozilla.org...then it gave me a specific plug in. Even though I knew I had it, I did attempt to download the plugin. It gets to 66% download complete then error application in use occurs (because I already have it) and it automatically opens Window IE to retry. I know for a fact I have the most updated version. For some reason Firefox just will not recognize it. I've restarted my computer. Earlier I reset Firefox and regave permissions on my plug ins. I have honestly done ever single fix I can do. Help please. I am going to lose my religion if this aggravates me any further! Thanks y'all. Oh and as you can see down there, it is saying I have Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 12.0.5.146 which is not true. My control panel, Flash section disagrees and says I have 15.0.0.152.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause
    Firefox issues. Open your '''Add-ons Manager <Control><Shift > A'''
    and '''Disable All of them.'''

  • Workaround for Firefox browser not recognized by SLL search engine?

Attempting to add Google SLL (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/google-ssl-243978/?src=ss) to Firefox (35.0.1 Mozilla FIrefox for Ubuntu canonical - 1.0) fails with the error message "Sorry, you need a Mozilla-based browser (such as Firefox) to install a search plugin." I've tried suggested support pretaining to "useragent", but the suggested "reset" option is greyed in the selection menu. Is there a workaround?

This can happen if you have an extension that blocks content like JavaScript.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

  • Why is the Firefox browser not recognizing ANY Flash player add-on?

I recently updgraded to Flash 17.0 and find that the browser often doesn't recognize my Flash player add-on. The crazy thing is that it's available in my list of add-ons, but whenever I enable and disable it, Firefox never recognizes that it's present when I go to sites that use the add-on.
I recently uninstalled the latest version of Flash and went back to an older version (10.3 I believe), and that still didn't change anything. I even did the little trick where you go into your "help", "Troubleshooting information" and "show folder" to delete "pluginreg" DAT, but it seems you have to do this EVERY new session on Firefox.
This is ridiculous. Flash is so often used on websites that I can't believe Firefox would upgrade its browser and not have something as essential as its compatibility with Flash all ironed out prior to the upgrade. I've read through the other answers to similar questions on here, and NONE of them offer any kind of permanent fixes. It'll all crap that you have to do manually every time you start a session on the browser.

Nope. I tried both things, and neither worked. I went through the work of downloading and installing both ActiveX version and the plug-in version. I then delete the plugin.dat after I closed out of my last season of Firefox.
It seems to work immediately after I do this, but if I disable Flash, at all, as I often do during most of my browsing and then enable it before I go to youtube, youtube still doesn't recognize the plugin and tells me I need to go download it.
It looks like I'm going to have to go and reset my plug-ins, but I REALLY don't want to do this. This is ''insane''.

  • Skype Not Recognizing User Name with New Password

It is for my family account with my wife.  I had to reset my password because I forgot it, but once I followed the steps as provided by the skype website, skype didn't recognized my skype name.  For a minute, I thought I might have forgotten the name, but I sent a text to a friend asking him what my skype name was.  He sent me the information with a picture, and I had the name right.  So pissed off at skype right now!

When I initially tried to sign in using my Skype name  I couldn't remember my password, so I clicked on the "forgot password" link.  The Skype website then redirected me asking for my Microsoft account, which I entered and then reset the password once it asked me to do so.  I then went back to the Skype program with the new password and was told that the Skype name and password do not match.  When this happened I attempted to sign in just using my Microsoft account, but the website kept redirecting me to a page asking me for my Skype name and password.  I even tried the "Sign in using Facebook" option and that even failed because it did the same thing: requesting my Skype name and password.  In otherwords, signing with my Microsoft account doesn't work because once I enter that information, it prompts me for my Skype name and password, which is does not recognize - even though the Skype name is clearly listed as mine through my friend's information. It was just turning me is circles.

  • ICal not recognizing user name or password when it previously did

I'm getting this all of sudden: "The server did not recognize your user name or password for account 'iCloud.' Make sure you enter them correctly". Yet, there is no where for me to re-enter my info. How do I get my computer ical and iCloud to re-sync?  Both, on my iphone and macbook, the icloud selctions for calendars are checked.  I did not change anything before this happen; and, all my other applications are syncing up perfectly.

Yes same here - I think it is because after downloading and then getting rid of the buggy mackeeper I have changed some of my keychain permissions - but like you I get the message without any indication of here to put my password into? checked my preferences for icloud and etc and all seems fine???? where do I enter them???

  • User Variable not recognized  in Calculation Manager in V11.1.2

I am using user variables in a script using a calculation manager in V11.1.2
When I am using the user variable within a Fix statement I don't have any problems but when I am using it out of the Fix statement it does not work. I have already added the variables in the variable manager
The error I am getting is the member is not recognized (user variable). I am having problem with only one of the many variables.
Any suggestions on why I am getting this issue.
    Thanks in Advance.

Thanks for your input, I have assigned the default values but it still did not work. Then I restarted all the services and it is working fine.

  • Reconstruct -m showing corrupt mailboxes, Version not recognized

    Hi,
    Using Sun Messaging server version:
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-4.03 (built Sep 22 2005)
    libimta.so 6.2-4.03 (built 04:37:42, Sep 22 2005)
    SunOS mailstore-7 5.10 Generic_137137-09 sun4u sparc SUNW,Netra-240
As a normal monthly maintenance task I perform a reconstruct -m on our mailstores, but this time, I got back a LOT of errors of users with corrupt mailboxes.
The next step is I tried to take users (1 at a time) with corrupted mailboxes and use reconstruct -ifr /user/jreed7, that looks successful:
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/reconstruct -ifr user/jreed7
    user/jreed7/INBOX
    Reconstructing...
    user/jreed7/Trash
    Reconstructing...
    user/jreed7: fixed quota root usage
Then I tried using reconstruct -p primary -u jreed7 -m and this was not so successful:
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/reconstruct -p primary -u jreed7 -m
    user/jreed7
    user/jreed7/Trash
    =user/jreed7
    =user/jreed7/Trash

I'm not sure what to do next. I have seen posts similar, however, not the same as my issue.

    PEP64 wrote:
that seemed to work. I don't understand why reconstruct -ifr (which zeros out the idx files) then forces reconstruct on all folders in the mailbox didn't work. The "reconstruct -r" command will only process folders that exist in the store database. The "reconstruct -m" process appears to have removed the record of the mailbox from the store database due to the afore mentioned corruption.
Running "mboxutil -c" on the mailbox re-creates the record.
This is why I suggested running "reconstruct -r" before "reconstruct -m".
Unfortunately I don't have any of the users passwords to be able to log in as them to make sure they can get to the once corrupted folder(s).
Thanks again for your expertise Shane. I didn't spool the output of the reconstruct -m on all 35,000 mailboxes because I've never seen this problem until just recently. The list is quite long, so I might not hear anything else about this for a while. It is always a good idea to capture the output of reconstruct -m/recontstruct -r commands for future reference.
There is 1 that I was not able to recreate and I believe it might have something to do with the fact that the name of the folder Family and Friends has spaces in it.You can quote the folder name e.g.
    ./mboxutil -c 'user/blah/Family and Friends'Regards,
    Shane.

  • Adobe 11.0.9.29 not recognizing toolbar param

Has there been any change to the Adobes list of URL parameters?  I ask because version 11.0.9.29, in Firefox, is not recognizing the "toolbar" param.
If I execute the follow params under version 11.0.8.4, the toolbar is hidden:  #toolbar=0&navpanes=0&messages=0&statusbar=0&scrollbar=1
If I execute the same params under version 11.0.9.29, the toolbar displays.

Probably because it's not using the Adobe PDF viewer but instead it's using a JavaScript PDF renderer called PDF.js.

  • Problem on Ebay that Firefox 5 is not recognized?

Hi, I just updated my browser to Firefox 5 yesterday (I used to have Microsoft Explorer) and today I tried to list a classifed ad on ebay.co.uk and the ebay system generated an automatic error message saying that I need to update above Firefox 1.5 so it is not recognizing Firefox 5 and I was not able to input the information on the ebay system. I contact Ebay help and there only suggestion was to switch over to Microsoft Explorer. I would prefer to keep using Firefox - do you have any suggestions. Please let me know if you have any questions.

In case you did not get why Ed gave you that link, you appear to be posting with a Firefox 3.5.5 useragent . It was not until Firefox 4.0 and newer that Mozilla made it so extensions could not tack stuff on end and potentially make the UA get stuck at the version one had when a the extension that affected it was installed.
    Your useragent.
