  • Firefox hangs at random times, even with all plugins disabled.

I get a white screen with the Windows circle that indicates Firefox is busy. On the bottome left, it says "waiting for XXX," where XXX is a hostname, usually some kind of ads server. Then it says Firefox stopped responding.

First, try to reset Firefox. [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]]. This simple step will eliminate many Firefox problems with only one click.

  • Firefox hangs nearly every time I am working in Blackboard.

I teach on line using Blackboard. Since installing Wndows 7 Firefox hangs nearly every time I am working in Blackboard...and this is every day. Firefox doesn't hang on my home desktop using Vista 64. I have all the latest Java updates and have continually queried Blackboard for a solution with no result.

Could you describe the new window in more detail? For example, is it an ad for something, or a login page, etc.
Since this occurs so regularly, I think it would make sense to try browsing for an hour in Firefox's Safe Mode to see whether that makes any difference. This will temporarily disable your extensions, which are the type of add-on most likely to cause mischief.
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled ''(Flash and other plugins still work)''
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
    Any difference?

  • Firefox 7 hangs at random times, and sticks on connecting a lot

I've been supporting Mozilla Firefox for 5 years straight - and recommending it to over 50 friends, but since Firefox 7, nearly all my friends (including me, and my family) have experienced random freezes, and stuck on connecting at random times (mostly when there's more than 3 tabs loading), this never used to happen before and because it happens on lots of different computers I've looked at, it must be a browser issue. I've seen that lots of people have had this issue, when's this going to be fixed? I hate to move to Google Chrome, but I've had to!

  • Firefox "hangs up" randomly during use, not for any of the reasons on the "Firefox hangs" article. Help?

I'm running Window 7, on a Dell XPS L501X using an Intel Core i& Processor with a 64-bit OS (trying to give some hardware info, however hardware illiterate I may be.)
This issue started less than a week ago, before I updated to version 6.0.
Firefox would, at random it seems, not respond to user input in the form of clicking, scrolling, what-have-you. when clicked the first time the window (any number of them), would wash-out a bit and get a (Not Responding) added to the title. It will remain like this for 10 second to almost a minute.
I did go through each and every "Firefox hangs" suggestion and none of them fixed the issue.
This happens even when there is nothing being loaded, on websites with nothing TO load really. This has grown increasingly annoying, and the only articles I can find that even address this problem online suggest just switching browsers.
I'd like to avoid that since Firefox is fantastic and, so far, has meet and exceeded all my expectations and made my overall Internet experience so much better.
This issue occurred twice while working on this inquiry.
    Please help.

I checked the add-on manager; Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.510.13 10.51.2.13 (two separate numbers, but shown on the same line) is set to Ask to Activate, along with a warning to use it with care. However, when I click for More Information I am told that it is blocked without any suggestion for how to unblock it. Java Platform SE 7 U51 10.51.2.13 is set for Always Activate, and there is no prompt for More Information. I recently installed the most recent version of Java; this was when the absolute inablility to use it began (this applies to the NYTimes Chess Player, the Acrostics program, and possibly others; I can still do the Sudoku, although with a warning when I first use it at a particular session). I have checked the articles mention in cor-el's response, but their application to my problem is not clear. On question, however--are the Java versions showing in my add-on manager the most recent ones that I just downloaded? If not, how do I get add-on manager to recognize the most recent versions (which, according to Java, are the only versions on my computer). Thanks for your help.

  • I've had problems with both FF 5 and 6 tabs hanging at random times, how can I fix this?

Using Windows 7, 64 bit, Firefox 6...all plug-ins are up-to-date...I've checked flash, java, video display drivers, windows updates, run virus scans, checked for malware, cleaned temp files and profiles...all is up-to-date...still at random times on any website for about 30 seconds i get a not responding tab...if I wait it out then it will come back just fine. It happens with one tab open or several open and just happened as i was typing this. Add-ons i'm running: Adobe Acrobat 10.1.0.534, Java Platform SE 6 U26 6.0.260.3, Quake Live 0.1.0.433, Shockwave Flash 10.3.183.5, Silverlight Plug-In 4.0.60531.0........Extensions: Adblock Plus 1.3.9 and DownloadHelper 4.9.5. Thanks for your time and I hope to get this resolved.

Have narrowed it down to flash, java or adblock plus. Only 3 plug-ins i'm running. All are up-to-date.

  • Firefox hangs at random moments and uses 25% of the CPU (one core)

    Hello,
On random websites and moments, I notice Firefox using 25%CPU. I have 4 cores. I don't know what's causing it, and it is pretty annoying. It just hangs and becomes unresponsive for about ~ 30-45 seconds. After that it happily continues without problems. It doesn't actually crash, it only hangs.
I think it's something with an extension that's causing it. I have this as well on my laptop, that has Hyperthreading. (this PC doesn't) - On the laptop it uses 13% CPU when the same issue appears.
I have Firefox 5 fully updated. Addons I use:
    Ghostery
    Adblock Plus
    HTTPS Everywhere
    WOT (Web of Trust)
I use on both computers Windows 7 Professional. One of them is English, the other Dutch. Both legal and with all updates.
I also have the Flash and Silverlight plugin, up-to-date.
If there's any other information you need please let me know. Would like to have the issue resolved :)
    Thanks,
    Niels

Nope - no fix yet :( I have installed a few new addons though: HTTPSEverywhere, Ghostery and NoScript. I'm not sure which one is causing it, but one of them caused the problem to drastically reduce. I have it once a month now, maybe.. Before that I had it multiple times a day.
It's probably Ghostery or Noscript fixing it, due to the things they forbid from loading :)

  • Firefox freezes at random times and I have to end process, restart to use it

I have no problems with running Firefox.
I got a new laptop, downloaded Firefox and have had problems with it randomly freezing. It will attempt to load a page, freeze and won't unfreeze no matter how long I wait. I have to open the task manager and end the firefox.exe process to close the program and restart it.
My initial belief was that I may have downloaded a wrong bit version.
I'm currently running Windows 7 with a 64-bit operating system. I am running Firefox 3.6.13.
    Any help?

It sounds like you are getting in a hurry.
If you force Firefox to close in a hurry, then it won't normally start until you re-start the computer. There are ways around this, but I'm not going to go into them right now.
None-force way to close Firefox down: Close the program and wait. Do something else. Firefox appears as if it is closed, but it's not. Firefox cleans out cookies and it's cache after you close it. That takes a few minutes. You can't restart it while it's doing house cleaning.
After it is done, then you can restart Firefox normally. You can watch it in the Task Manager.
The same applies if you are installing javascript. You have to wait a few minutes.
As for running it with multiple tabs, I usually have 5 or 6, or more, tabs open at a time. Have no idea what the problem is there. Firefox needs special permission by use of a pop-up option to close with multiple tabs open.

  • Satellite L300D PSLC0E: IE & Firefox hangs & short battery time

Folks, I recently bought 2 new L300D laptops (Vista Premium, 2MB RAM) for my children. Im reasonably technical but would appreciate some advise on following issues:
    1. Both explorer and firefox browsers regularly 'hang' when using gmail. When I try to close the browser the 'x' to close in the top right starts shimmering and wont stop. Browser hangs. This can sometimes happen when opening new emails. Not sure this has happened with basic browsing. Is this VISTA, BIOS, browser, google?!
Big issue as they cant check their email regularly. Only way to exit is through task manager.
    2. Battery life now seems to be 1 hour. I was careful to charge up and drain down when I bought but battery life is v poor.
    3. Toshiba TEMPRO advises on various updates. I checked the BIOS and after issues with extracting I seem to be upto date. Which ones do you suggest I pay attention to as most seem cosmetic?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Stewart

Possibly this has something to do with the security settings of your internet browsers.
Maybe you should check it again.., furthermore I recommend updating the Win Vista, IE and firefox to the latest state?
    > 2. Battery life now seems to be 1 hour. I was careful to charge up and drain down when I bought but battery life is v poor.
Battery life time depends on the notebook usage... this means that if you are using some applications which need more hardware resources then the battery would discharge faster.
You could extend the battery working time changing some settings in the Vista power settings. For example reduce the screen brightness, set the CPU frequency to a lower level, etc..
    > 3. Toshiba TEMPRO advises on various updates. I checked the BIOS and after issues with extracting I seem to be up to date. Which ones do you suggest I pay attention to as most seem cosmetic?
I agree with Raver, if you have no big issues with the notebook then a BIOS updates is not really necessary but if you want you can update it.

  • ITunes  11.1.1 (newest) is hanging at random times at least once a day. MAC 10.7.5

I have been forced to kill Itunes several time over the last 3 or 4 days. Itunes hangs, I usuall find this out when Apple TV will not connect (message is it can not load the Itunes Libtsty. My mac is a pro, and can not be upgraded past 10.7.5
Once I restart Ituens it works fine for a while (usually from 12 to 15 hours then it seem to hang again. Most of the time I am not on the computer and there is nothing I can idenfiy that would cause the problem.
Is any one else having such a problem?

Same here. Mac Mini is always on as media server, and not used for much else. I stream from iTunes to ATV at night, but when I get up the next morning and check the computer, iTunes hangs.
Recent updates seem to have made the problem worse.

  • Firefox crashes at random times

Hey, over the past couple of months Firefox for Windows (8.1) has been crashing more and more. There's no obvious reason for it that I can detect.
I'll just be browsing the Internet, reading an article or something and then it will suddenly just freeze. I'm not even able to ctrl-alt-del to shut it down manually, Firefox just freezes on me, and it's clear that it's struggling to process something as it occasionally will flicker a little as though it's trying hard, but it just stops. There's an outside chance it's my computer in general to blame, but it only ever seems to happen when I have Firefox open (and I don't always have Firefox open).
I have the most up-to-date version (37.0.2). Here's a few of the most recent crash logs:
    bp-b5e763f2-f2a6-4b35-8856-f3e112150424
    bp-f5b4bea4-9ec5-48ac-b70d-ece952150423
    49a5259d-42b9-48cd-bf94-bc46695d3571
    0042f953-ec91-4fed-90da-2a2e9e3b6aab
Most of these logs mean nothing to me, so happy for one of you smart guys to parse this for me. Thanks.

The only other situations I can find with this exact crash reason were problems with the computer itself or video drivers and not Firefox. This could be a corrupt RAM issue or a corrupt file system. It could also be a video card bug, since the crash is actually happening in the UI part of the program.
I would try 1. Testing your RAM, 2. Doing a file system check, and 3. Updating graphics drivers.
If any issues are found during any of those steps, I would fix the issue and then fully uninstall and re-install Firefox after fixing the issue.

  • Firefox 4 .0.1 hangs all the time. Has to be Force Killed

Firefox hangs almost every time I run it on my Mac Laptop running Mac OS X 10.6.7. I have to force kill it every time. I have disabled all add-ons and also switched from 64bits to 32bits but the problem has not gone away. I am using Safari more and more and I don't want to do that.

  • FireFox Hangs

Firefox hangs up every time I use it causing me to either force quit or reboot my PBG4. For the past 4 months, it was my default browser but I had to switch back to Safari. Are there any know fixes or workarounds for this problem?

Delete the preferences file org.mozilla.firefox.plist . It will be recreated when you restart Firefox. If that doesn't work, delete it again, drag the firefox icon to the trash, empty the trash, and download the current version from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

  • Firefox hangs on particular webpages

Firefox hangs all the time on particular pages. I don't know if it has something to do with Flash player but it only seems to happen occasionally when I'm browsing the web whereas it's guaranteed to happen every time on UK newspaper websites.
It is driving me mad, I prefer Firefox to IE 10 but this one issue is likely to stop be using it.
    Any suggestions?

I also have the same problem when I go to
    www.reuters.com
When I go to that website it hangs/doesn't load the page. I download the latest version and did a clean reinstall but it still doesn't work.

  • Firefox hangs, shows Not Responding, on start up and at random times

Firefox is hanging on start up and at random times during use. When I click the desktop icon it takes about 20-30 seconds and then opens the usual Firefox start page. However as soon as I move the mouse or try and use anything on the screen it hangs. The Firefox logo top left in the blue bar turns into a white box. After about 2 minutes it reverts to the Firefox logo and all starts working normally.
However every now and then the same thing happens, white box, and the Not Responding words in the top blue bar. Sometimes the whole webpage goes blank white, with only the very top blue bar and side scroll bars showing.
It reverts to normal after a minute or so.
This has happened with the last few versions so it is not due to the last update.
I've tried most things (plugins, stop hardware acceleration, etc) except the one below - maybe someone has an answer to why I can't do the one below?
I've read that you can try and correct by right clicking the decktop icon, choosing Properties, and then Select Compatibility and my Windows Program which is Windows XP SP3. However when I try this the latest Windows showing is 2000. - Maybe this is my problem - how do I get the comnpatibility to Windows XP S3?
    Thanks
    Gaz
