Fireworks Upgrade Debacle

I purchased the CS3 Fireworks upgrade today, and it looks
like I'm not the first person who has run into this stupid
situation...
Before paying for this upgrade, I clicked the "Upgrade
Eligibility", which opened a second window presenting the following
copy. It's reformatted here (no table) but is verbatim.
Upgrade eligibility
Upgrade to Adobe Fireworks CS3*
You have
Macromedia Fireworks 8, MX 2004, or MX
You want
Adobe Fireworks CS3
You pay
US$149
*Upgrade pricing is available only for products listed above
and requires a qualifying previous product with serial number.
Upgrades for volume and education licensing are handled separately.
Well, I do indeed have Fireworks MX. It was one of the
applications I paid for with Studio MX. Unfortunately, Adobe
doesn't consider that eligible. Why?! And why the fsck don't they
have a disclaimer stating such? Nowhere on that page does it say
you must have the "stand-alone" version of Fireworks to be
eligible. I HAD the stand-alone version when I upgraded to Studio
MX!
I found a post from early June '07 by another irate customer
who'd just been given the same story. Why hasn't Adobe taken the
time to clarify the upgrade requirements on that page? It feels
slimy to me, like they're being purposefully ambiguous.
I had three, 3-minute conversations with three separate CSR's
and spent over 60 minutes on hold between the conversations. I was
in the process of getting a case# for a refund when I was cut off!
The first person I talked to had a thick accent, as did the last.
Obviously, these calls are fielded overseas now. Anything to save a
buck, huh? So now I need to spend more time on hold to get my money
back. Fantastic, I can't wait!
You know, as an Adobe customer for nearly 20 years, I'm
starting to get that "Quark" feel from Adobe, and I don't like it.
I bought CS3 Design Premium only to discover they'd amputated
Imageready, which really trashed my workflow. I griped about it on
the forums for a few weeks, but finally surrendered and was ready
to dive into Fireworks. Now I get this upgrade BS.
Anyone else NOT feeling the love?

The mistake was buying the Mac. ;-)

  • Dreamweaver fireworks upgrading to yosemite problem

RE: fireworks and dreamweaver: I desperately need a new computer which means upgrading from 10.6.8 (snow leopard) to YOSEMITE.  I have been using CS3 fireworks and dreamweaver constantly for my business for many years.  I do not want a learning curve so thought I would upgrade to CS5 but I hear that there might still be problems on Yosemite.  I do NOT want to learn new setup nor encounter trouble with my old files.  PLUS I see that CS5 costs hundreds of dollars.  ANY SUGGESTIONS on what is closest thing to my CS3 THAT will work with Yosemite AND is there any way not to have to pay hundreds of dollars e.g. $500+)

Your comfort zone aside, almost every new software these days requires a modern OS and 64 bit computer.   CS6 and CC are compatible with Yosemite.  But CS5 is not listed in the compatibility FAQ so it is a risky venture for software that is outdated, no longer supported by Adobe and 7 versions removed from the current Creative Cloud offerings.
Old HTML files will still work in DW CS6 or CC.  However the products have received many updates. So take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with what's deprecated and what's new in DW.

  • IPad ios 4.2 upgrade debacle

I was on the phone this morning with a level 1 Apple Care tech, who basically told me that my sudden lack of all internet connectivity is caused by problems with my router/firewalls, and has nothing to do with the ios 4.2 upgrade.
This is my first Mac purchase and I am not familiar with how quickly Apple puts out patches. Do any of you experienced Mac users have some sense of timeframe? Are we talking a week or two or next April (as someone on another thread in this forum mentioned.)
    <Edited by Host>

An iPad bought a few days ago connected fine to a Linksys (Cisco) router, then yesterday refused to negotiate a valid IP address via DHCP handshake. No amount of resetting, restarting, or rebooting--even restoring--either the router, cable modem, or iPad resulted in success. (This included forgetting networks and renewing leases.) All other devices in the network connected and re-connected flawlessly; conversely, the iPad would connect to other wi-fi networks.
The router was put through several changes, including choosing only 11g devices, and changing transmission channels & SSID names. Finally, what worked a mere seconds ago, was changing the security protocol from WPA2/AES+TKIP to WPA/TKIP (only). That kickstarted the iPad into a valid IP address. In a fit of impulsivity, I changed the security BACK to WPA2/AES+TKIP and then to AES (only), and the iPad continues to connect appropriately, even after awakening from sleep mode.
I'm not sure what happened, but my guess is that the IP lease expired, and the iPad refused to negotiate a new address with the router, until the security change forced something loose. In any case, this seems to be a prevalent issue, judging from the number and breadth of threads clamoring about this issue in many forms, so this just a note of what worked for me. (I posted this in the discussions, as well.) Ciao.

  • Problems with Vista upgrade on Moduslink

'COA invalid', 'Irrecoverable Error', 'Alert not Implemented'... these are kind of messages I get from Moduslink. I'm not expecting to reply my emails since they are in neck-deep.
I love my A100 SAA9E, a very stable and powerful machine. I'm from London and have selected all the right options, but it would either come up with a random COA prob, or an error after my penultimate step.
    What can I do? Help.
    Shawn

I was unable to complete the Vista upgrade via the Moduslink on Toshiba's website http://wwww.toshiba-europe.com/vista-upgrade, even though I got to paying for the upgrade with my credit card. When my payment was being processed I got an 'unrecoverable error', so I went back to repeat the process and this time the site didn't recognize my COA on the bottom of the laptop.
I contacted Moduslink via the following Tel No. 00800 666 44 666 (UK) and spoke to one of their support staff (choose options 5 and then 8). There is a problem with their site excepting payments from credit or debit cards. The representative reset my COA, but it takes 48 hours for it to clear (so much from electronic data communications to servers). I have been told to retry the upgrade process again on Friday 16/02/2007, however, this time to pay either by wireless transfer from my bank or send a cheque.
Hopefully, this will help others who were frustrated with the Vista upgrade debacle. It would be more appropriate however, if the company concerned, Modulink, resolved the issue in the 1st place. Firstly by informing their customers that there was an issue, secondly on a work around to the problem and finally fixing the problem. Will commonsense ever prevail?

  • Preparation for Yosemite upgrade on MacBookPro5,4 - 15", mid-2009

What should I do to ensure the upgrade to Yosemite goes smoothly on a Mid-2009 MacBookPro5,4 15" with Mavericks?
    MacBookPro5,4 - 15", Mid-2009, 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3, nVidia GeForce 9400M 256MB, OWC Mercury Electra 3G SSD Media 480GB SSD
    iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1
    AirPort Time Capsule version 7.7.3
    AirPort Extreme 7.6.4
    AirPort Express 7.6.4
    AppleTV3
I see there is still some Western Digital software on here from the MyBook Live backup. This is no longer used after the Mavericks upgrade debacle that erased my backup. How do I cleanly erase: 1. MyBookLive Online Learning Center  2. MyBookLive Home 3. MyBookLive Public Alias.
    Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac

Just from browsing these forms in the last few weeks I personally would search for issues that some are having with 3rd party SSDs and Yosemite installation.  Obviously, folks that have done SSD upgrades are not typical users and therefore I would watch these reports to see what is being said and if there is something in common to their specific configurations.
Secondly, I would research how to get rid of the remnants of the WD software on your system.
Then, do at least two full backups (I typically do one to TimeMachine and then another bootable clone to a different external drive)
Lastly, check your disk for errors with Disk Utility prior to the upgrade.  It's amazing how many people will ignore obvious problems with their disks and just go ahead with a major OS upgrade like it's going to magically fix their disk as well.
Good luck.  I've successfully upgraded my work 2012 iMac 21" and my home 2013 MacBook Air and they work great!  Upgraded from Mavericks on both and they are more responsive than ever.

  • ITunes won't find new iPhone and update invalid signature

Trying to restore from iPhone 4 Restore backup to new iPhone 6 (Windows 7) and encountered the following......
When trying to connect the new iPhone 6 to my existing iTunes account, iTunes would not show the device (couldn't find it). Received a popup that stated the phone could not be recognized and an update to 11.4 (12.1....) was required. [[ I found this strange since I just updated and backed up my iPad and old iPhone 4 last night in anticipation of getting the new iPhone 6 today.]]
I tried the update multiple times but it would stall 15 minutes in and give the message "invalid signature" and error out.  I looked through many comments on this support sight, read what related help was available through iTunes help, etc, and spent HOURS trying each one (listed below).  A combination of a couple of steps finally worked for me so I am sharing this to hopefully save you some time and frustration. MUCH frustration.
Tried but did not resolve..... updated new phone to current 8.1.1 and made sure 'Find My Phone' was turned off.
Tried but did not resolve..... downloaded iTunes manually from within iTunes.
Tried but did not resolve .... downloaded iTunes manually from Apple.com downloads.
Tried but did not resolve..... downloaded Firefox (an alternative browser) and manually downloaded iTunes again from Apple.com.
WARNING: The following resolution will wipeout any previous iTunes settings like views, organization, etc.  It will also wipeout any previous setup already done in your new iPhone other than fingerprinting, language and date/time setup. Email accounts, setup preferences, etc, will be wiped.  Also, your old phone will no longer work with iTunes - apprently this new software issue will only recognize one phone.  Your music, contacts, most apps (I did lose a few), if backed up from your old phone properly before starting this process will 'Restore' to your new phone in the updated iTunes.
Tried and worked..... Closed iTunes. Went to Start on my computer, typed itunes64setup. I had two itunes64setup listed due to the first manual download from Apple and then the one done again via the Firefox browser.  I chose the one downloaded from the Firefox browser - not sure it would make a difference. (If you have two listed, Hover your mouse over each and it will give you the times of when they were downloaded).  Right click on the itunes64setup and choose 'Run as Administrator'.  (You may incur issues with this step if using a work proprietary computer.)  Opened iTunes and plugged the iPhone 6 in and it recognized the phone. I was then able to 'Restore' info.
Since I had already tried the manual downloads, I am not sure if they were necessary and maybe running the itunes64setup only would have resolved the issue.  If you are addressing the iTunes update iPhone 6 issue and try the itune64setup without the manual downloads, etc, and it works, please update this support entry so others can follow your lead.
    Thanks!
What Apple is not telling (WARNING) their faithful users about is that they obviously have software issues for existing users in the 'Windows' world when upgrading to the newer phones and to do so you are going to need to spend some time and effort.  This is strike two for me, just coming off the 8.1.0 iPad 2 upgrade debacle Apple put so many of us through.  Shame Shame, Apple!  It's called Q/A and should be applied to all your users environments and not just those who have everything new in an Apple/Mac only world. There are more of us that don't. Thx!

Step one : Please restart EVERYTHING involved. This means your cable modem / dsl router, Airport Base Station if you have one, your computer, your iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad (2) if applicable. Shut it all down and power it all back up in the appropriate order (modem / router / computer, et cetera)
Step two : Make sure you have the most recent version of all software. Verify you have the latest version of iTunes and the Remote software. Check to make sure the AppleTV has no updates as well.
Step three : Enable Home Sharing on all applicable devices.
Step four : Make sure the AppleTV and the computer are both hooked up to the same network, wireless or otherwise, and make sure if you have a non-Apple router anywhere in the mix it is allowing traffic to flow freely between all the Apple tech. Apple has specific documentation on this. Search the Support site for "Apple TV: TCP and UDP ports and protocols used" and make sure none of those ports are being blocked by the router or any firewall software you may have running, like Zone Alarm.
Step five : Fire up the Remote app on your phone, and let it search for your AppleTV. There should be no passwords required anywhere if the Apple tech is properly talking to one another.
Step six : If all the above still doesn't work, then call in a professional who can get eyes on the equipment and do a proper job of troubleshooting.
Please let us know if this does not help.

  • Cannot access my CDROM: Mac book pro 8,1 - Intel Core i5 – 2.23 GHz (early 2011)

    Aloha & Happy New Year,
Was running (triple booted with rEFIT) MAC OSX, win7 (64) and Linux (BT5/64) all was well. At some point Win7 crashed, thus I began the reinstall process.
Problem one, reinstalled OSX with install CD without issue.  Then during the Q&A segment of fresh install vs.- use a backup copy option; I chose backup copy and somehow I ended up without the correct login pw. So now I cannot login. Nor can I reset using the Master or Firmware pw.  I have tried every imaginable pw.
Problem two, during the iphone /iOS 5 upgrade debacle (The "Encrypt iphone backup "PW issue") I lost amongst other vital info, my notes which contained a copy of my firmware and master pw.
The main issue, I cannot access or utilize my CDROM in order to reinstall or access the disk utility. It simply bypasses any CDROM straight to the login screen.
    I have attempted:
Restart HOLD-C, PRAM, NVRAM, Option key, restarting with WIN7, restarting with Linux, two different USB drives. Powered off, removed all cables. Opened up back panel, (grounded myself) removed power from logic board and re-connected all parts after several minutes.  The question, why is the CD bypassed each and every time? Mind you, this is not the first time I have faced the bypass of the CDROM, yet each time before I have somehow solved the issue. It is a mystery. As in other threads I have posted I do have an iMAC next to my MB Pro. I unseccusfully attempted to use the iMAC for assistance in accessing the mb pro.
    I AM AT A LOSS.

Yes, you royally hosed up your machine.
You should first try to get your files off, any way you can to a external drive.
Your going to need to hold c and boot from the disk that came with your computer and a couple of screens in under the menu is a option for Disk Utility.
Select your drive and Erase with Security Option Zero, format the drive HFS+ Journaled and when that's finished (about a hour or so) then quit and install OS X from the installer.
I hope this works, but I suspect it won't. Others have hosed their machines trying to use a Linux disk without proper partition formatting too.
Another option might be to use another Mac to c boot off the Snow Leopard disk and install OS X onto a external drive, take that to the problem Mac and try holding option and booting off of it to erase your internal drive.
    You could replace the drive.
    frederick s wrote:
The Option key brings me to the grey screen with a padlock.
Is this holding option while booting?
There was someone else around here who hosed their Mac with a Linux disk too. Try to find it.

I have tens of thousands of digi snaps from 2003-onward, in a MANAGED library.
And I have just begun archiving all my OLD photos, negs, slides, etc (88-03), which is thousands and thousands more.
I'm backed up, multiple ways, and vaulted.
Obviously, I'm going to be adding more, and more digital pics, too.
I know that Aperture is "built" to manage HUGE libraries, but I recently had to re-load from a backup (due to the previous 3.4 upgrade debacle), and it took DAYS.
I don't know if I'm comfortable having a library that gargantuan
So I'm wondering what the steps would be to, maybe, break my library apart by, say, 5 year incriments.

I probably should've said "day" instead of "days." It took a LONG time. I'm connected to my TM by ethernet, and once I had my library corrupted by that update, I immediately "restored" my previous library from TM. And it just took FOREVER to copy it back over.
PS, my Aperture library is currently 431GB.
PPS, I'm backed up several different ways: Vault, Vault and Library to Time Machine, Everything to a third disc, and ALL OF THAT to a huge drive I have off-site.

I am not an expert, and had my own trouble so I was hanging out on this forum - new iPod AND iOS 5 upgrade debacle plus the new iTunes 10.5. Too much to absort.
I would setup your S.O. with their own user account on the laptop.

    Seems like it should work.

  • I gave up on WP 8.1

I got to the end of my 14 day return window and returned my windows phone after seeing no assurance of having a up to date version of WP.  Why not just get a nice tablet running REAL Windows 8.1 and just tether a small "El Cheapo" non-smart phone to it?  This VZW OS upgrade debacle has caused me to question the wisdom of the "smartphone".  I don't buy a FIOS TV;  why should I buy a VZW mini computer called a "smartphone"?

...Perian is not used by VLC or Movist....
Those players may not use it but the software is still installed and may still affect performance. That software degraded the audio quality on my Mac mini for files with non-digital audio. Using the AudioMidiSetup utility to return the settings back to the way I originally had them restored the audio quality.

    Hello DrKrizzle,
I see you're trying to find the bluetooth on your Notebook after doing a system refresh. I will try to help you with this.
If the refresh has reverted the Notebook to Windows 8, you may use this link for the driver which should enable the bluetooth for you again. Intel Bluetooth Driver. If you have upgraded back to 8.1 after the refresh, there is currently no driver listed.
You may also use the HP Recovery Manger to try to restore lost drivers. Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8).

Today I bought and downloaded Fireworks CS6 from the Adobe webshop as an update for my Fireworks CS5 that was included in my Creative Suite 5 Web Premium-set.
But during the installation of Fireworks CS6 the serial number of my Creative Suite 5 Web Premium - needed for the installer to verify that I could 'legaly' upgrade - was not accepted! So now I can use Fireworks CS6 only as a try-out-version...
What can I do? If Creative Suite 5 Web Premium isn't the right upgrade-version: how can I get my money back? Or is there another solution?
    Please help Adobe!
    And thanks in advance,

Thanks for the reply. but how do I manually weed out the install entries in my registry? could you please guide me with the steps? This http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html is not working I am afraid. I understand that I need to uninstall the creative suite before I run CS cleaner. But as I explained in my first question, the uninstallation is not working at all. Even I could uninstall the software, I am afraid that I may get into trouble if installatin is not working. All I want is that my photoshop error " save for web devices " which was grayed out should work as normal. This error happened after I moved the plug-ins.
