First bill has a connection charge?

I recently signed up for a phone and broadband package.
I've just got my first bill.  It includes a £124.99 connection charge.
Although I had a new line installed, I was told that you don't get a line connection charge when you take out an 18 month broadband package at the same time.  What's going on?!  Anyone at BT care to explain?!
The ordering process was a complete mess and I'm worried BT are going to claim that the phone line and broadband orders were two separate entities, hence a connection charge.

That is strange because when I signed up on the 10 FEB this year I got the £-124.99 connection charge credit, so your best bet would be to recheck on your bill on the part that says "How we worked out your bill" if the connection charge special is listed on it.
If that isn't there then my best guess would be to do this.

This may sound stupid, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway. Is it possible, that if I have enough junk on my desktop it might disrupt the signal? It seems odd, but it kind of looks like my signal is strong and relatively steady now that I've cleaned my desktop. I do tend to get very cluttered. I use a lot of reference images and save text clippings to use later... it just piles up very quickly.
So, I wonder if all that extra effort my system has to do keeping up with the junk might have something to do with the drop outs?

  • What are the non-basic services charges on my first bill

I switched to Verizon Freedom bundle package to save money. I was shocked when my first bill arrived with $123.03 due. It states Verizon non-basic charges 107.68  What is this and why was I not informed of these fees ahead of time. This is ridiculous.

Non-basic charges are usually things like Voice Mail and long distance calling. The first bill is always a stinger. You pay a full month in advance and a partial month, from the date of installation until your new bill date. So your first bill can be anywhere from 1-2 months of service. After the first bill you are on a 30-day billing. You can see your bill detail by signing in online and clicking on My Bill and then on "Print and Download" towards upper right of that page and being sure you select the Entire Bill. The bills are confusing because by law the services are taxed differently for basic  and non-basic so the bills have to be broken down into those services and each taxed accordingly. Our government wants their share...too much as usual, but we all know how the government is...

  • My MacBook Air has problems connecting to a saved network when I first open it.

My MacBook Air has problems connecting to a saved network when I first open it. When it idles, the connection gets lost and even clicking on the network won't connect it. Then I have to turn off wireless and turn it back on for it to connect. My boyfriend's MacBook Pro does not have this same problem and this problem started maybe 2 months ago and nothing about our internet or router has changed, and its only my computer having the problem. Its a 2013 MacBook Air and my softward is: OS X 10.9.1 (13B42). Please help!

    Hello, nheredia05.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple steps that I could recommend trying.  Power cycle the router and test to see if the behavior persists.  Next, try an remove this prefered network from your list and then add it back again.  Make sure all firmware updates have been processed on the router side and the settings have been optimized for performance.  If the issue still persists try the steps in the second article.

You can charge anytime. You can also plug it in over night if you want because you can never over charge it.

  • My first bill is not what I was told

My first bill was not $75 (as I had been led to believe) for monthly service but $77 plus $40 dollars for a variety of other extra charges. The $40 dollar charges were not explained and I could not get a real detail list of them on my first bill.   This is false advertising! I was told that I could get a discount for signing up for automatic billing, but I did not get a discount and I did not see the discount written anywhere on the web site either.  I was also told that I could get a discount for being elderly and disabled.  Neither of those claims were true either.  I am on a fixed income and can not afford extra expenses.  You sales staff, web site and process mislead and confuse customers purposefully.  I was not told that it would cost me $380 to get out of my two year commitment, but I found it in the fine print after I committed contractually.  So far my experience with Verizon wireless service has shown to be corrupt in the lack of informing customers of their real costs.  This is no way to run a business that needs to rely on reputation and word of mouth business. Your business is just another big corporation that is profiting from extreme greed without a care for their customers.  Whatever happened to truth in advertising? Then the worst of it is that I cannot get a contact person to talk to that is not a sales person.  It was one of their (several actually) sales staff that misled me to begin with. This note is the only forum I could find to complain.

The first bill is almost always higher because of prorated charges.  So if your bill prints on the 15th and you started service on the 30th of the prior month, your first bill will have half a month's charge for the 30th-15th, then the usual month in advance charges for the 15th-14th of the next month.  Discounts for autopay, I believe, take a month or two to show up.  There is a plan for people 65+, and you should be able to change to that plan if you want to, just make sure the change is set to take place the first day of the next bill period.
The other $40 in charges probably include activation and possibly insurance on the phone, and you should be able to pull up a detailed bill in MyVerizon with each line charge described.
How did you start your service?  Did you go to a store, call, or order online?  The ETF for a smartphone is $350, not $380, and if you were not informed of that you should have been, although if I were setting up service with a contract, I ask the terms of the contract, like fees, time frame, service and all that. Did you enter the agreement under the impression that there was no penalty for early cancellation?
Finally, this is primarily a customer to customer forum with occasional input from reps.  They are identified with a Verizon logo.  If you need immediate action, you will need to call.  I hope you are able to get everything straightened out and explained!

  • Connection charges

Looking at the £22 ish 400 minutes to landlines in Ukraine but it's not clear if there
Is a connection charge taken out of the £22 or charged by broadband provider (Sky). Tariffs have changed by all telecom providers on 1st July 2015 ie using sky with
Telestunt I get charged a connection fee, a per minute access fee and a per minute usage fee! Is Skye just the per minute fee taken from subscription or am I going to get a surprise change on my skytalk anytime account also?

'My vendor has a BT line with BB from Sky. He uses his line for business and wants to cease his number to stop me getting calls for his business.'
Is his phone service also with Sky or BT Retail?
'It would be effectively allocating a new number to the line with no external work involved.'
If the Sky the current owner has is provided by LLU at the exchange when he ceases his account the line at the exchange will be unjumpered.
When you place an order they will allocate you a number, someone from BT Operate will set this up on the Exchange Equipment. a Frames Engineer from Openreach will then have to go out and jumper the allocated Exchange Side of the line, where your line has been provided by BT Operate to the Line Side of the Main Distribution Frame, as well as any broadband jumper that needs doing.
The chances are if the vendor does have his Sky provided by LLU your line will be allocated a new E-Side, that's the cable between the exchange and the cabinet. If this does happen then a Field Engineer from Openreach will be sent to connect the E-Side cable to the D-Side cable. Problem with allocated D-Side cables is they are not always correct, they could tell the engineer to jumper the E-Side to D-Side 27 but D-Side 27 might be faulty, already have a working line on it or whoever wrote down the routing was supposed to type 278 but missed out the 8. That's why 99% of engineers don't trust the routing they have been given and will want to access you house to firstly, measure how far back the line goes and also connect a tonner onto it so when in the cabinet they can prove which pair you are on with their amplifer.

  • £50 deposit added to first bill?

I've just received my first bill and there is a £50 deposit charge on there which I have been informed is for international calls that I might make. The advisor said I would be refunded when I had made 3 to 6 consecutive payments on the account. I wasn't told about this when I took the contract and I have never made an international call. Has this happened to anyone else and how can I get this removed? I moved to ee as a friend told me how good they were so to have a problem when I've been with them less than a week is frustrating. Thank you

I've just received my first and there is also a 50£ added.  No one told me before about that. But people listen to me
Be careful with EE. THIS IS A FRAUD WITH THIS £ 50.
They told me that this is just deposit, and when they receive 3 clear payments they send me back straight away. But it isn't true. My direct debit with them is set up on 27th every month. My Money waiting for them in full on my account but they dont wanna take them. They blocked my outgoing calls!!!!!! And automatic voice try eplain me that i should make a payment by other way. If I do that i have lost deposit. Hhehe Itis vary funny 10 days ego: i think WOW I have unlimeted calls /unlimited texts for £44,99,... freedom . But in real  i cant even call now to customer service hehe. It is crazy . Never again with EE .That is our very smart EE.

  • 'Disk Utility has lost connection with Disk Management Tool' w/ RAID 10 set

Using 4 internal drives, I have specified the following setup for each:
2 partitions, 1 'speed' of 5 GB and 1 'data' of whatever remains.
The 4 speed partitions stripe to a single RAID volume correctly.
The 4 data partitions are used to make a RAID 10 volume as follows:
The first 2 data partitions are mirrored to make a 'data-A'
The next 2 data partitions are mirrored to make a 'data-B'
    These complete correctly.
Upon attempting to strip data-A and data-B in order to finish the RAID 10 setup, Disk Utility quits with the following message:
"Disk Utility has lost connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility'.
A search here and on the nets reveals only that this message appeared in 10.3.x when attempting to repair disk permissions and had to do with a rogue iTunes support file. This is occurring on a blank system (no iTunes installed) so I don't think its the same cause.
Note that I was able to complete this setup under Tiger several times without issue, so it seems to be unique to Leopard. Does anyone know what is going on and hopefully suggest a workaround?

To answer my own issue and leave a marker here for others, I was able to successfully set up a RAID 10 partition using diskutil, indicating that the problem is Disk Utility itself and not the RAID implementation.
Disk Utility has proven itself to be bugridden (must restart frequently to get updated view of volumes; drops device names at various times; etc.) and this latest bug would seem to suggest that it should be avoided in favor of diskutil for any serious RAID construction.
