Flattener Preview (Print Production tools) Action Wizard

Hello,
Action Wizard offers lots of "Tools" but does not offer the Flattener Preview option (a Print Production tool). We want to create a action using transparency flattening, something we've done since Acrobat Pro 8, and appreciate any suggestions.
Dan

Okay, I figured out that transparency can be flattened through the Optimizer setting when saving in the wizard.  Problem solved. Thanks anyway!  Dan

I just purchased Adobe Acrobat Standard DC andf upgraded from Acrobat XI. When I instalkled it on my PC the print Production Tools were there and functional. I installed it on my Laptop and those tolls are not there. What do I need to do to have Print Production Tools on both computers?

This is quite odd. I wonder if you could try something for me on EACH computer.
Use Help > About Adobe Acrobat DC.
At the top of the box it should say Adobe Acrobat Pro DC or Adobe Acrobat Standard DC.
On each of the two machines, what does it say? (I think something odd has happened)

  • Apple iBooks Author is not a print production tool-

I was really impressed with Apple's release of iBooks Author App and I'm sure I will get a secondary drive to be bootable with Lion so that I can install this new free app, that only runs in Mac OS X Lion.  But, as long as I am producing books for the printing press, before they go to eReader, InDesign will have to be my tool of choise so that all of my work that was put into the book production can be repurposed to the e-reader version.
Sorry that I'm not posting an InDesign question.  I'm just sharing some thoughts with my community.
I'm getting ready to upgrade from InDesing CS 4 to InDesign CS5.5.

iWeb is template based and Dreamweaver is a WYSIWYG graphical web editor. iWeb is the fry cook of the web world with Dreamweaver the fast food middle manager of the web world. In most cases you aren't going to get haute cuisine out of Dreamweaver, that's where your IDE's and scripting languages shine.
iBooks author is essential the same thing as Microsoft Publisher, but built exclusively for getting content into Apple's iBooks2 and iTunes U applications. One can build a bunch of equity in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF, images and spit them into Publisher or iBooks Author with minimum reformatting and maintain the magic that those applications have.
InDesign allows you to leverage graphical equity from existing print layouts and publish to a few more output directions. Getting existing Powerpoints, Excel documents, Word Documents misused as layouts and the like is not something one can easily accomplish in InDesign. You can get your InDesign documents wrapped into Adobe's viewer and push out to Android, iOS and other platforms provided you pay Adobe either a grip of cash or a small amount of cash every time you want the document updated.
For the everyday student, professor, office worker or anybody who doesn't already have a strong investment in Adobe and InDesign it is a no brainer to go the iBooks Author route. Apple's iPad and iOS have a commanding lead in marketshare and a staggering lead in revenue spent on content per device. Many people aren't putting effort forth on Android or other devices still (though the Kindle Fire may change that). For the purpose of taking something that is free, publishing for free to the over 40 million devices out there iBooks is a much more attractive route for many than Zinio, Woodwing, DPS, paying a developer.

  • Where is action wizard? It is not in the tool box like all the tuturials show it to be.

I can't find Action Wizard in the Pro version. It is not where they keep showing it in my version.

Go to the View menu at the top and select Tools - Action Wizard. Do you see
    it then?

  • Adobe Employees: View Tools Print Production Convert Colors

Totally don't get your View> Tools> Print Production> Convert Colors dialog.
I would expect that if it was working that all Tagged files (left column) would display correctly.
But in every test it appears all that happens is my profiles are stripped.
Can you possibly let me know what I may be missing as no one else seems to be able to?
Here is my control .pdf download:
    gballard.net/photoshop/pdi_download/PDI_Color_Profile_Test.pdf
Here is how it displays Acrobat Pro 10.1.5 (as expected):
Left column is Taggged as noted (displays proper as expected).
Right column is Untaggged as noted (displays unmanaged).

i had a revelation slugging this out:
Acrobat Print Production> Convert Colors behaves nothing like i expected (accurately transforming Tagged source colors to a Destination profile)
i am still interested if this is possible, but this is what i believe is happening (and it is easily proven in Photoshop on the monitor)
During Acrobat's "Convert Colors" process (using my conversion settings):
Acrobat IGNORES the profiles embedded in my RGB images.
Acrobat "Assumes" its Working RGB profile (on all Tagged/Untagged images) and then
Acrobat "Converts" everything to the Destination profile and embeds that profile.
Here are my Acrobat Color Settings (Working RGB is ProPhoto RGB):
Here is how those settings display my original .pdf:
Note: This is totally predictable and how Photoshop displays Tagged and Untagged color (Photoshop properly "Converts" or transforms Tagged color to the monitor profile; and Photoshop, like Acrobat, "Assumes" its Working space on Untagged colors).  That means the left column containing all Tagged images are displaying the same as Photoshop, and the right column of Untagged images are each uniquely different.  In fact, the Untagged ProPhoto RGB is the only Untagged image displaying proper because Acrobat made the proper Assumption.
Here are my Acrobat Convert Colors settings (my best guess for a simple Source> Destination conversion):
Here is the result using the above Working RGB and Convert Colors settings:
    Note: This is crystal clear.
To prove it in Photoshop one would merely have to open each of the original 10 files and Assign ProPhoto RGB to each file, then Convert each one of them to WhackedRGB (and this is exactly what I would expect to see).
    And here's the proof:
I dragged the Converted .pdf into Photoshop and "Used the embedded Profile" (Whacked RGB) to open the ProPhotoRGB image -- as you can see -- Acrobat made a proper conversion to Whacked RGB, correctly embedded the Destination profile, and is displaying it proper.
i am still really interested if Acrobat is capable of properly Converting multiple Tagged elements to a single tagged Destination profile -- i.e., my five tagged images in the left column display properly (like Photoshop displays them)...
PS: I did the exact same series of tests/screenshots using WhackedRGB as my Acrobat Working RGB -- the results were as predicted (Whacked RGB was the only source space that properly converted).

  • Tools - Print Production

Documentation refers to Print Production in Acrobat Pro XI, but I cannot find it in the Tools. I'm running Mac version. Any help?

With the Tools menu open, click the tiny window icon under the Comment button. That should open a pop-up menu where you can select to show the Print Production sub-menu.

  • Flattener Preview Highlight Settings Grayed Out

Had to re-install of my Adobe programs due to an overal computer issue.
    I am running Mac OS X 10.7.5 - Adobe Acrobat X - Adobe InDesign CS5.5
I have not had this issue before the reinstall. I have a Adobe InDesign file and did an export to PDF.
I chose Adobe PDF Preset - Smallest File Size, I used the default settings for Smallest File Size preset.
When I opened that file in Acrobat and went to Tools > Print Production > Flattener Preview
When the Flattener Preview window opens at the top it show preview settings. Under the "Highlight" section
the selections are grayed out. I am using items with tranparency within the PDF. Also I have successfully used this
option with this file before. Not sure what is causing the highlight options to be grayed out.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

After hours of messing with this I think I figured it out! Seems like a possible bug in the program. Turns out that even though pages throughout the PDF had trasparency, in this particular case, the first page in the PDF did not. So the "highlight" pull-down menu window is grayed out and it seems to be because the first page does not have transparency even though I had "all pages" checked.
So I went back into the PDF and selected a page that HAD transparency. Then when back into the flattener preview settings and clicked on "all pages" and went back to the "Highlight" menu and trasparency selections were there.
So seems like a weird bug in Acrobat that you have to have a page in the preview window that has transparency for it to work on all pages.
    Hope this makes sense!

  • Apply watermark and then apply Flattener Preview via JavaScript

    Hello all,
I have a bunch of PDF files which were generated from InDesign.
Currently I am applying a watermark to all the PDFs in Acrobat XI and then a flattener preview to all of the PDFs manually one PDF at a time.
I want to make a script which does all this.
I also tried the Action panel, but it didn't automate the flattener preview part.
I am comfortable with JavaScript and scripting in general.
Any help or a pointer to resources will be appreciated.
    Thanks and regards.

    Thanks for replying.
The flattener preview is located under "Print Production" panel. Where one can configure the text flattening options, among many other settings.
I want to flatten the text (convert it to outlines) via JavaScript as you have suggested.
    Please suggest any sample code.
    Thanks and regards.

  • Reduce file size with action wizard

    (German version below)
    Hey,
I got two questions for action wizard in Acrobat XI Pro.
I try to reduze file size of many PDFs using acion wizard. My tests worked fine but now I got some problems I try to explain now:
    1. I add a directory with many subdirectorys to my process list. Adobe now adds not only PDFs to my list, it also adds JPGs, DOCs etc. That means I have to delete every single file I not want to convert to PDF cause I only want to reduce file size of excisting PDFs. Is there any possibility to only add PDFs in my processing list?
    2. If a PDF is opend by any other user I get a information about it. This info I need to acknowledge every time it pops up cause my process interrups. Is there any possibility to ignore this info?
I´m happy for any help i can get here. Thx.
    Regards
(Sorry for bad english, it´s not my favorite language )
    Hallo Leute,

For starters, let's refer to your original post: "this is indeed a serious problem and step back in functionality..."  This statement is a quite ridiculous assertion, unnecessarily dramatic, wholly inaccurate, and unhelpful.  Your statement "is this a joke" and "I know Acrobat tends to choke...etc..." is just pure gibberish and polemical.   It is quite easy to feed any application enough data to cause a performance failure, but one would really need to question one's motive and prudent use of one's time at this point - unless you are tasked with stress and load testing the software to determine minimum working requirements.
'Batch Processing' is, since Acrobat 9.x, dead and gone, Acrobat 11's approach is to aggregate many hitherto unavailable tools and commands and allow the user to create custom workflows.  More interactivity has been built into the process, which may or may not be desirable in each case depending on the workflow context and requirements.  But we have obviously moved away from the concept of processing a large number of files and towards a more targeted and effective processing of smaller sets of files.  The default Actions we deliver with Acrobat 11 reflect this intention.
The feature "Batch Processing", which was an Acrobat feature from A5 (I believe) up to A9, previously had been hidden in Menu/Advanced/Document Processing/Batch Processing has been wholly replaced by a completely overhauled framework called Actions, now part of the Tools panel, and will be immediately accessible when Tools is called in the UI.
Thus the obscured Batch Processing may have been a tool considered and used by an extremely small set of users to do exactly that, i.e., batch process a large number of files, but had been fairly inflexible, generally speaking, and buggy.  We were very well aware that if we were to overhaul the feature, add a considerably larger number of available tools and commands in Acrobat, provide wide possibilities for customization built towards specific workflows, and bring it to the forefront, we were going to sacrifice some of the aspects of batch processing a large number of files.  Not calling it "Batch Processing" anymore - because it isn't - may be an indication of this intention.
Personally I have used and tested Batch Processing periodically during various Acrobat projects, but I don't remember encountering the "Reduce File Size" command - which is a subset of Save and file optimization -  to use within a batch sequence.  I may be wrong, and your screen shots would be welcome here.  In fact go ahead and construct a batch sequence that (1) uses 'Reduce File Size and (2) applies file type filters to it, and post it either here or to me privately.  I would be happy to be wrong.  But regardless, we are grateful for positive input that points out defects, allows us to improve the functionality of the product, providing the intended changes are reasonable, and that the communication of said issues remain respectful of this process and of the individuals we depend upon to implement these changes.  The tone of your response comes very close to rendering a proper consideration of this issue irrelevant.

  • Illustrator Flattener Preview Bug?

Before I submit a bug report, just want to see if anyone else is having this issue because my computer has been acting up in other areas lately.
    late 2009 - 27" iMac, Yosemite 10.10.1
    Illustrator CC 18.1.1
The "Presets" drop down only says "Custom" in Flattener Preview.
They do appear in the Advanced tab of the Print Dialog.
If I go to Edit>Transparency Flattener Presets, I have the defaults (High, Medium, Low Resolution, For Complex Art.), but are not in the Flattener Preview.
If I go back to Edit>Transparency Flattener Presets create a new Custom preset, then the new costom preset and the defaults will then appear in the Flattener Preview.
But as soon as I close Ily and re-open, they dissappear again. I have to create a new custom preset OR delete one to get Flattener Preview to see the presets.
Just wondering if anyone else can duplicate this behavior, or is it just me.
As a side note, the dashed line for Opacity Masks is also unpredictable. As in, when applying an Opacity Mask, inside the Layers panel it sometimes will show up as a solid underline, like a Clipping Mask, and other times it will appear correctly as a dashed underline.
    Thanks.

    Same issue with me.
Most actions I create are unusable after restarting Illustrator.
    I'm on Windows 7, AI version 17.1.0 (64-bit).
Let me illustrate the problem with a simple sample action.
When I create an action it works, and as you see Alignment item is expandable.
(Left image: before running the action, Right image: after running the action)
Upon restarting Illustrator the Alignment item is empty, the action doesn't work and I get an error dialog.
I have to delete and reload the actions and those are working again.
Here's the action I used. Just select 2 objects and press F11 or run the action.
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2462383/Horizontal%20Align%20Center%20-%20F11.aia
I saved the bad action after restarting Illustrator
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2462383/Horizontal%20Align%20Center%20-%20F11%20bad.ai a
Opening these in the browser or in a text editor, parameters are not present in the corrupted aia.

  • CS4 Printing in an Action creates a negative image print

I have CS4 on a Windows platform, as a trial. I wanted to see if the printing issues that keep me from using CS3 in production were solved before I bought it.
Pretty much right out of the chute, I ran into problems. I use actions to get photos formatted to print. The action at the end, it calls Print (in CS2 was called Print with Preview). This Print step is done with modal control to allow different printers or settings to selected.
This action works fine in CS2 and in CS3. In CS4, the print comes out as a negative image. I have deleted the step from the action and re-recorded it in CS4, still comes out as an negative. Interestingly, if I use a CS2 Print command (not the new Print Preview version) in the action, then it works fine. The problem is extremely repeatable in different action or to different printers. If I disable the print step in the action and just print it without the action, it works fine.
This to me seems a very repeatable bug.. hopefully it gets on the list to fix.
    Allen

I waited late to switch to CS4 so the bugs would all be fixed.  Now that I have made the switch, I find I get wild negative images from actions that printed fine under CS2.  Is this in fact a bug and is there a posted work around from Adobe?  jc

  • Ideal settings to send PDF's to a high speed B&W print production machine

I have a few OCE 6250's and a Xerox Nuvera 120.  All high speed black and white print production machines.  I'm having some trouble sending true 300 dpi PDF's that have page counts in the 10,000's.  What are the recomended settings in Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard?  Please note, I have no issue printing these same files using Foxit Reader so I'm not sure what's causing this issue on Adobe's end.  Thank you.

    Hello PAHU,
Thanks for coming to my aid again.
Some of the things I'm scanning are records that need to be good as photocopies because I will have to email them or copy-or-print and snail mail them.
That's interesting about how the PDF file is made. I thought PDF would be a native format and chose it for "compatibility". I'm not sure if everyone have apps that can handle TIFFs (especially on the PC side). My recollection from scanning in the 90s with my Paperport is that TIFFs can print "huge" or "teeny" depending on the settings it was scanned at.
Using your advice scanning with Preview set to B&W as TIFF and PDF and both times the files were smaller. Thank you so much.
I also tried converting the TIFF to PDF in Graphic converter because I can batch convert documents that way. However, I noticed that the printouts of the B&W scans are rather poor quality. On the other hand the B&W scans print out as the whole page and not with a white border like the color scans do.
The B&W pdfs scan slightly smaller than the TIFFs. So that's probably what I will do for these documents.
I will have to search out /experiment with the OCR for things that I can save as text when I get a chance.
I have so much to learn about scanning.

  • Print Production Order with status CRTD

    Hi gurus,
Our system is configured to print production order when the order is released, but when the order is in status CRTD,Created, (not Released) we try print the order an error message appears "Object ORD xxxxxx has system status CRTD (Created).  According to this status, transaction 'Print order (original)' is not allowed".
Is it possible print orders before release action?
Thank you, I have points for the best answers.

Through transaction  BS22 you can configure the system to Print the Order even at CRTD status.

  • Event "Workbook_BeforePrint" not on new funtion "preview&print"

    Hi
After starting the work with Excel 2010 I recognized that the new function "print&preview" does not call the event "Workbook_BeforePrint" from the VBA code. In Excel 2007 the event is called on both functions, print and preview.
As the new function "preview&print" is pushed to the user, it will the one to be used to call the preview. But with a macro on the event "Workbook_BeforePrint" the preview will not show the result as it will be printed.
Is there any action I can take to solve this problem on my side? Or is there any plan to integrate the event into the new function?
    Many thanks for every help.

    Hello Parzungjh,
Welcome to the MSDN forum and we are glad to help with you.
After reading your post, I did test in Excel2010 and Excel2007, just as you said, I reproduce your problem. However, I don't think
    it as a problem.
I think it is by design.
I found that print and preview feature is integrated in Excel2010. If you want to control the trigger of BeforePrint event
in Excel2010, you can write some simple VBA codes as follows:
    Private Sub Workbook_BeforePrint(Cancel As Boolean)
    Dim Print_or_Preview As XlYesNoGuess
    Application.EnableEvents = False
        Cancel = True
        Print_or_Preview = MsgBox("Show Print Preview?", vbYesNo)
        If Print_or_Preview = vbYes Then
            ActiveWindow.ActiveSheet.PrintPreview
            Else
            ActiveWindow.ActiveSheet.PrintOut
        End If
    Application.EnableEvents = True
    End Sub
    ActiveWindow.ActiveSheet.PrintPreview
can open the print preview dialog like Excel2007. I haven't found the way to open the print view dialog through UI.
I think it is the change in Excel2010.
I hope it can help you and feel free to follow up after you have tried.
