  • HT5812 I can't get the fades or crossfades to work in LP X. Help, please?

I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I can't find it anywhere online. I have about 4 takes of drums recorded. No fades work at all. The fade icon in the pdf manual is different than the one I have, which looks like this: >
I have used pro tools and its cake compared to this. I've searched tutorials and they just click on the fade tool and fade a track just like in pro tools. But for some reason mine doesn't even do that. Any suggestions? I also see no option to "Flatten stack". Not sure if the two are related.
    Joshua

    Hi
You cannot apply fades to Take Folders. Within a Comp, crossfades are automatically applied according to Preferences:Audio:General.
Flattening a Track Stack is not the same thing as flattening a Take Folder. To do the latter, click on the Take/Comp menu top left of the Take folder

  • Can't export a video I created in Quicktime, help?

I just took several short clips from iPhoto and put them together using Quicktime into a short video of 4 minutes long.  I want to save it or export it and every time I try, I get an error message saying "Operation stopped.  The operation is not supported for this media."  I used the Share button to try to save it in Vimeo, iMovie, etc.  No matter where I try to put it, it won't work.  Ideas?

    1) The first step would be to actually determine what you are really trying to do here. Do you want to "Save" or "Export the content? Saving the files would normally provide the bext quality since the data is not actually transcoded while would allow you to convert multiple data compression formats to a single, flattened video track and a single audio track.
    2) Next, decide how the content is to be merged. For instance, are all of the clips of the same aspect ratio and/size. If the are, then you could use an app like QT 7 Pro or MPEG Streamclip to perform either a "Save" or "Export" operation. However, if they do not have the same aspect ratio and/or dimensions, then you may want to consider masking/compositing options only available in apps like QT 7 Pro...
    a) For instance, you may want to create a fixed size background on which to overlay each unmodified clip to retain its original dimensions and aspect in a display position of your choice.
    b) All clips can be scaled and/or prositioned withing the player window and then masked to create a common, shared display area for all clips.
    3) Another consideration may be the number and type of file type/compression format combinations which may restict which app(s) can be used to merge your content, as well as, how the finished product is to be viewed or distributed which may affect merging/compositing requirements.
Basically you have many options here that can vary depending on what you are actually doing. For instance, if all clips have the same dimensions, I would normally give the clips alpha-numeric names representing their playback order, simply "drop import" all files simultaneously to the free MPEG Streamclip app, fix timecodes if needed, and then "Save" or "Export" the result as desired or required for further use. As I am not impressed by the consistency of QT X use or it reliability in its various current versions, I would normally use one of the editing apps bassed on "classic" QT here to avoid the idiosyncrasies you seem to be encountering.

  • Whats the best way to send multiple layers into a Motion Project

Hey all, I have a project that has multiple video layers in FCP: I'm trying to MERGE them so that I can send that MERGED layer into Motion to add additional elements. I've tried NESTING the items yet they never truly MERGE into one clip? When I send to Motion It always goes in just showing text with primary video black ? Can someone help with the correct procedure.
Here's how I got the layers in FCP
    Primary video (L1)
    Graphics (L2)
    Text (L3)
    Appreciate any replies

Since I can't watch over your shoulder, I'm only guessing that your inexperience is the main problem. Merging the clips is not an option since they are from different sources. Nesting will give you all of the layers as a single video track in another sequence but that cannot be sent to Motion since it reference separate sources.
You can render your original sequence and that will, indeed, flatten the tracks into a single, flat, merged movie. but you cannot tease the layers back out into separate items.
You can explore the various ways of sending material from FCP to Motion later, here's what I'd do now: Import your video and graphics files into an empty Motion project. compose your text as a text layer in Motion.

  • Encore 2.0 freezes on QT import

    Hi,
I've created a QT reference file in Avid 5.6 and imported it as an asset. It's a 610KB file. I can see the file in the project menu, but when I select it, the application locks up and I have no further control so have to cntrl-alt-del to get out of it.
Any thoughts on why this is happening? I'm running a dual core 3.2GHz + 2GB Ram so the computer should definitely be up to handling it.
    Cheers!
    Simon

    Hi all,
Just to confirm, I did as you suggested and confirmed with MediaInfo that the file is 28Mbps, 720*576(4/3), at 24.132fps, Apple DV PAL.
Then, I had an idea. I went back to Avid and tried a different setting. QT Reference with 'Flatten Video Tracks' and 'fill spaces with black' unchecked. I don't know why I thought this would work, but at least Encore didn't refuse to import it after I did it.
So, to answer your question, it's the other way around, the freezing evolved from the refusal to import. Audio format is AIFF-C. (not sure what muxed/demuxed means..)
    Cheers guys!

  • DRUM REPLACE OPTION GRAYED OUT?

When I select a drum track for replacement the option is grayed out. I have tried several different types of drum tracks with no success. The project files are 24but .aif
Ideas on what I may be doing wrong?

You probably have selected a track with unflattened takes on it. You must flatten the track first, then the option will appear.

  • "General Error" when building from Quicktime Reference

Just a few weeks ago I exported an hour long video as a Quicktime Reference from Avid Media Composer 7, imported it into Encore and built it to a Blu-ray folder. Everything worked as it should. Today I had two 5 minute videos exported from Avid as QT Ref's, imported these into Encore, made them into timelines, checked the project and previewed and all seemed correct. I went to build and it almost immediately pulls up the error "General Error". I saved the project, closed Encore and tried again and still no luck.
I am using the same settings as before when making the QT refs from Avid (Digital mastering default, flatten video tracks, native dimensions [1920x1080], mixdown audio tracks as .wav, 96 kHz, 24 bit), the Avid codec I am using, and thus referencing, hasn't changed (Avid DNxHD 145) and my Encore project settings are the same as the last time I successfully made a disc using QT refs (Blu-ray authoring, H.264, 1920x1080 29.97, PCM audio, 30 Mbps). I am using a static menu in this project, just like the last time I successfully built. Before attempting to build, the videos and audio playback in Encore correctly and the project checks out fine.
Why would this be happening? The message provides absolutely no useful information -- just "General Error" -- so I have no clue what the underlying issue is.
Has anyone else experienced and overcome this phenomenon?

An error that is probably due to multiple causes.
    Two things worth trying:
close the current project and "clean" the caches.
    Reset Encore preferences.
    What version of Encore?

  • Freeze Frame on m2v

    Hello,
I'm having a problem when compressing a self-contained QT movie for DVD. My workflow is this:
    1) Export QT Ref from Avid XPress Pro, flattening all tracks, rendering all effects (digital mastering)
    2) Open Ref in QT Pro, save as self-contained.
    3) Bring self-contained file into Compressor.
I'm using the default Best Quality DVD 4:3 setting. The self-contained QT has two seconds of black before video starts. When I get to the compressed MPeg file, the first frame of video is frozen for about a second, and then video plays fine. My problem is exactly the same as the person who posted here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2986410&#2986410
It doesn't seem to have been solved, hoping someone out there had this problem and figured it out...
    Thanks,
    Dave

One more thing I noticed is that compressor may be omitting the two seconds of black at the head of my movie, and that could be causing the freeze -- don't know if that helps solve this though...

  • Meeting Recording Error Message

    Forum,
While trying to record a meeting yesterday, I kept receiving
an “auto recording failed” message with a yellow
exclamation point in the upper right corner of the screen. After
reviewing the recording, it looks like only the video was captured.
Has anyone received this error message before and know the causes?
Perhaps a bad connection to the Enterprise server?

Erik.......do you feel it is better to record direct to my external HD or the Imac HD?
External. IF it is Firewire. USB is less suitable, but it'll do too. The startup disk is also busy handling RAM for virtual memory, so it is doubly stressed when recording to it, and will 'refuse' to record, or drop out, or say "disk too slow" sooner.
What are the best settings for buffer and the other recording parameters?
Depends on your machine; rule of thumb: keep it as low as possible when recording for minimum latency (32, 64 or 128 or 256), and set it higher when playing back, (256-1024) to avoid "system overload".
The best recording format imo is 24 bit/44.1 KHz (or 48 KHz). If you record 10+ tracks that are all subtle acoustic recordings, it may ever so slighly improve sound/mix quality to go with 24/96KHz, but that will also double the overhead for the CPU. And imo the difference even then is hardly perceptible, save for the most highly trained professional ears.
I record basic rock with 16 tracks or less and not overly complicated effects. Also I still don't understand what "flattening" of a track means. Thanx.
Okay, so 24/44.1 is enough for that. Flattening a track means that you make a new audio file (solo the track, and bounce) that includes the plugin effects you applied to it. It is an (old fashioned) way of freeing up CPU (because you can switch off the plugins afterwards and use the 'flattened' audio file).
Freezing provides a better alternative for freeing up CPU though. Look it up in the manual, it is a simple and effective feature.
    regards, Erik.

  • Logic 8 Sample Editor Problems

I'm having major issues with the sample editor. It's starting to randomly ignore tracks. I have drums tracks that I need to invert and they refuse to show up in the editor. I have 8 tracks in all that are being ignored. I have gone through all kinds of troubleshooting to try to get this to work and I'm stuck. What could be causing this?

    Hey Neal,
    did those tracks have comps?
did you tryed to flatten the tracks before reverse?

  • RECORDING ERROR MESSAGE-'DISC TOO SLOW'

Every once and a while after I have recorded around 12+ tracks, I get a "Disc too slow" message with a black block at the end of the recording. The black block when played back is just a loud noise. What is this and what setting might I have wrong. I have the new IMac 27" with quad cores. The cores meter is barely moving and I don't hardly have any processors on. HELP.

  • I need to make a pdf form that is fillable and send from ipad to email not tracked just the complete email. Can someone help me.

I have forms that I have created with submit buttons, that are filled out and sent complete to an email box.  I would like to do the same only have my form filled out on an ipad and then have the submit button send the completed form the same way.
I don't want to gather the data, since i am doing this for another department.  They want to track there own data via the Pdf's they receive.  Is this possible?

    majende,
Adobe Reader for iOS does support a Submit button.
    (a) Button action to submit an entire PDF document via email
    (b) JavaScript submitForm to Adobe FormsCentral
Do you use the desktop version of Adobe Acrobat to create a PDF form?
    For option (a)
Add the "Submit a form" action to your Submit button.
Enter "mailto:" (including a colon) followed by email recipient(s).  Please add a comma between two email addresses.
    Example: [email protected], [email protected]
    Select "PDF The complete document".
This particular type of PDF form will work with Adobe Reader desktop and mobile products (including Adobe Reader for iOS and Android).
In Adobe Reader for iOS, a user can do the following steps to submit the particular type of PDF form.
    Fill out the PDF form.
Tap the Submit button in the PDF form.
Select "Share Original Document" or "Share Flattened Copy" from the Share File dialog.
Adobe Reader for iOS will automatically fill in the email address(es) that you specified when you created the PDF form.
Tap the Send button in the upper right corner.
Adobe Reader for iOS will send the PDF form as an email attachment via Apple Mail (the default mail app for iOS).
Please let us know if you have additional questions.

  • Help with flattening

I have been using "flattening" after applying stamps wihtout any problems in the past.
After recent update of Acrobat (9.2.0), the flattening menu bar disappeared.
    When I checked "c:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Javascripts\FlattenPages.js"
Flattening Pages.js is still there but its menu bar is gone.
Please help me how to revive Flattening menu bar.    Hummer

    Bernd,
Thanks for reply. Installed the Javascript anyway and thus having the flatten option as a simple option available for both page & document. Works fine but ICT department is reluctant to enable the script for other users..
Checked the preflight tool which turned out to be rather complicated. Tried to flatten layers to freeze remarks made manually. Afterwards I could still modify/move/delete the remarks.
Most likely my mistake I'm afraid. My intention was to make simple instruction for my collegues how to flatten documenst but this will require some more time and study !
Could you put me on track please ?
    Thanks in advance

  • Exporting multiple tracks to EDL

    Hi
I'm having problems exporting multiple tracks to an EDL.
The actual project file has come from somewhere else, so I have no idea what could have been set up to make it not work.
Basically, there are 11 video tracks, each with clips (some of the clips have been disabled, but all the tracks are enabled).
However, when I go to export/edl, with target video track unchecked, it only exports the lowest track for some reason.

edl is an old format from the linear edit days. it looks at track1 as being "video" and track2 as being "Key". if you must supply edl duplicate your sequence and flatten layers. if you need to get it to another fcp system use xml. if you're going to another system check out "Automatic Duck"

  • Premiere pro: multiple audio tracks in a single take. (Workflow for audio mixing outside premiere)

Hi I am an editor from Finland.
I need to sync multiple audio tracks (like 2 stereo and 4 mono) to different takes before i start to edit. You see, after the editing I will create an OMF file for the sound editor who needs all the audio tracks to work with. I have noticed however by just nesting (puttin video and audio clips in a single sequence) the resulting sequence placed on in the main sequence is flattened into stereo (not multichannel). You see my problem here? I am surprised, because i have always taught that this is a very normal workflow and so far i haven't found a single tutorial or a guide for this problem.
Just to make sure we're on the same page: I know how to sync video and audio, just not so that the 6different audio tracks in all my 120 different takes that i edit into a single sequence will have the 6different audio tracks in the audio post production (which is done in protools, maybe...)
    Oh yeah, Premiere Pro CS5

    Hi!
This is the case when i get a master clip with all the audio tracks in it. I however got separate files, a bunch of different video files (with stereo track), for every take a boom mic audio track, and a few tracks for all the microphones on the actors. Now after i import these into premiere, how will i proceed so that after i have synced all the audioclips to all the video clips (by nesting?) I will still have all the audio clips intact in the OMF file I will create.
Last time i created omf, all the clips had turned into stereo because of nesting. Is the only way to avoid this by joining the video and audio clips into multichannel audio clips with another program before importing into premiere?
I am not very good at explaining... Problem: I get a video and 10 audio tracks. I join them by putting them into a sequence. I repeat this about a hundred times (for every take). Now i start to edit. I create the main sequence in which i clip pieces from all the hundred takes. In the main sequence the clips have only one stereo track. When the movie is finished I create an OMF for the sound guy. The sound guy asks me why are there only 2 tracks per clip? Where are all the 10 separate audio tracks?
