FM Server License and Call Home

We currently are getting a message everyday for the call home that the Fabric Manager is grace period is going to expire in XX number of days. Is there any way to turn this alert off? This is annoying as we like the call home feature, but hate the NAG of the FM Server license.

A way to stop the Fabric Manager license nag message is to remove the license alert group from each call home destination profile.
To do this from the CLI, do these commands:
sh callhome destination-profile <-- note "alert groups configured"
conf t
callhome
destination-profile ?
User defined destination profile name (Max Size - 32)
full-txt-destination Configure destination profile for plain txt message
short-txt-destination Configure destination profile for short txt message
XML-destination Configure destination profile for XML message
destination-profile short-txt-destination alert-group ?
All This alert group consists of all of the callhome
messages
Avanti Avanti events
Cisco-TAC Events which are meant for Cisco TAC only
Environmental Power,fan,temperature related events
Inventory Inventory status events
License Events related to licensing
Linecard-Hardware Linecard related events
Supervisor-Hardware Supervisor related events

  • Exchange Downgrade Rights Server license and CALs

We currently are in the process of Migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 and then on to 2013. Mailboxes are being migrated on a weekly basis to the new Exchange 2010 server, Our Exchange 2010 server is just using an Eval license as our goal is
to stand up a new Exchange 2013 server and just continue the move from exchange 2010 to 2013. If we purchase an Exchange 2013 server license (guessing it will be volume license) will we have a license key that we can use with our Exchange 2010 Eval server,
im concerned we will not get everything migrated to 2013 prior to our eval license expiring. Also, how would we handle our CALS for this situation?

    Hi,
Agree with Steve’s suggestion, you won’t get the license key used by Exchange 2010 if you buy the Exchange 2013 license.
To choose the  Exchange 2013 license version, you can refer to the following article:

  • Weblog server licensing and 11.2 grid oms psu ?

    Hello all,
I had couple of questions( i have already tried searching in the oracle docs and metalink notes, but could not find anything on it). First thing, looks like oracle 11g OEM Grid requires a Weblogic server. Which is fine, But wanted to know do we need to pay extra for this or is it part of oracle 11g OEM Grid diagnostic pack licensing?? If so, i was looking for a official answer (metalink doc or oracle doc)
Also another thing that I was curious was OMS? Is OMS only at 11.1.0.1.0 version or can this be upgraded to oracle 11gR2? As from below link, i only see 11.1.0.1.0 software.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/grid-control/downloads/index.html
The thing that confused me was this link below. As in the below doc, it says to apply patch 10270073 to OMS home(psu patch). So i was wondering, after PSU patch is applied. Is the OMS going to be at 11.2.0.2.1 ??

    Enterprise Manager Restricted-use License
•Enterprise Manager includes a restricted-use license of the Oracle Database for use as the Oracle Management Repository only.
Additional database options or additional servers for disaster recovery require separate licensing. Customers receive one single-instance database with the Grid Control, or RMAN, repository. To protect the repository with Data Guard, customers need to purchase a license for the standby site. To protect the repository with Oracle Real Application Clusters, customers must license the second node for the database, and both nodes require an Oracle Real Application Clusters license.
•Use of Oracle WebLogic Server with Oracle Enterprise Manager is restricted to the servlet functionality without clustering for the Oracle Management Server (OMS).

  • Office 2013 OEM and Office Home & Business 2013 registration

    Hi to all,
in our company we brought some Office 2013 OEM licenses and 1 Home and Business 2013. The problem is that i have registered the OEMs with my personal Microsoft account and now i need to register the Home and Business and i want to avoid to register it with
    this. Then, my questions are:
    1. What is the procedure to register a Microsoft company account.
    2. Is there the possibility to move OEM license from my personal account to a the company account ?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
I noticed that the questions were about licensing rather than Office client issues, please understand we discuss questions and feedbacks about Office client in this forum, we are not familiar with the procedure/migration you mentioned.

  • FIM Licensing and Installation

    Hi,
I'm sorry  for this stupid question but I have a doubt. Until now I worked in a test environment with the trial version of FIM 2010 and I didn't use any license. Now the trial version is expired. My organization bought licenses and I would like to now
    how to better use them.
My test enviroment is composed of several servers: 2 of them are dedicated to FIM components (one with FIM Sychronization Service and one with the Service and the Portal).
I read about two type of licenses: CAL and 'for server'. To replicate my test environment, how many licenses do I need? I assume
2 server licenses, is it correct?. If I would simulate user provisioning from HR to Active Directory, do I need any CAL license in the test environment?
And another issue: the installation of the official version is the same of the trial version?
Can I use the same setup of the trial version? Do I need to use any certification?
The licenses that I will use in the test environment can be later used for the production environment?
    Thanks in advance.

Peter is saying that a subscription to MSDN will allow you to use FIM (and
a whole lot more) in your test environment for far less money that it would
cost to purchase full FIM server licenses and CALs.
"Normally you shoud be able to use the same configuration in test /trial as in production.".. so can I use the same setup.exe of the trial version? The license request is a step of the installation of the setup.exe?
Like the vast majority of Microsoft products, licensing is done on the
"honour" system in that there are no physical licenses to install.

  • Oracle VM Server Licensing

    Hi,

Actually we got 10 machines with 8 cores & 32GB RAM. We guess with this hardware we should buy the Premier Non-Limited license, is it right? Or is possible to have a Premier Limited licenses with this hardware?
Licensing, is including future updates for Oracle VM Server 3? In the same way, is the Manager support included?

  • How to stop SubmitDiagInfo from "Calling Home"?

I do not consent to "SubmitDiagInfo" collecting and sending information without my knowledge or consent. The OSX diagnostic reporting, called "SubmitDiagInfo" is now regularly "calling home" without my knowledge and i do not consent to this. Please tell me how to turn this off. I had consented a few times to submit one-off crash reports, thought i was being helpful to Apple, but now the tool is regular collecting information and sending in secret. I will never assist Apple in the future in bug reporting because of this breach of trust. Thank you.

The application firewall i am using pops up an information windows that tell me what application is accessing the internet, the URL, ectera. Download an application firewall and see it for yourself. If you are security conscious you will find a number of security issues on your machine that you were not aware before, did not authorize, etctera.
Since this post i have documented a number of Apple applications/services that try to "Phone Home". You have to be naive to believe that your Mac only contacts Apple when you tell it to do so. It is similar to what i have documented on Windows machines. Over the past 5 years i have noticed that this "Phone Home" phenomenon increases with every next version of the OS or update. I am new to Macs, but on Windows machines, even the NTKernal will now occasionally try to contact Microsoft servers. An OS kernal has no business doing this kind of stuff. I have even observed where arbitrary ports are being used, not the typical port 80, port 443, etcetera. I thought i had spyware on my machine. Nope. On Windows NT/2000/XP, it appears Windows even has a hidden service that periodically does a type of Win32 memory injection to hi-jack other applications and use them as proxy to "phone home", always to Microsoft servers. Sounds crazy, but i have witnessed it many times over the years. Even some open source software such as Firefox is guilty of doing this kind of thing. Firefox does the "phone home" during a webpage request. What it does is initiate webpage request, interrupt and "call home" to one of several Mozilla servers, then re-initiate page request and continue. Very sneaky.
I have even observed where servers out on the internet such as Google will try to connect to my computer using a variety of ports other than standard internet ports. Sorry, you should not need anything but port 80 to use Google and surf the internet. Use a good application firewall and you can observe this yourself.
I think everybody who takes privacy seriously should start looking into this. Where is the security community on this? It appears to be compromised, talks about everything else but this elephant in the room that i have witnessed the past 5 years. The prevailing propaganda is that this is all benign. I program software for a living and know you do not need to code software that makes regular connections with servers on the internet without user knowledge and explicit consent. This is unethical and possibly a common law crime.
Anyways, it appears that this "Phone Home" phenomenon is "by design". Fortunately there are products out there that allow you to deal with it. Unfortunately it is only a quick fix, it does not resolve the underlying security issue.

  • All 30 minutes my Macs (iMac/Snow Leopard, MacMini/Lion) are loosing the connection to the Windows Servers (2 Networks: Home with Home Server 2011 (Server 2008) and Office with Home Server V1 (Server 2003)).

    Hallo,
    Hello,
I run the office and at home each a Microsoft Home Server. In both networks, in addition to various Windows computers, a Mac is available.
The particular "configuration" is as follows:
    - Apple MacMini (Late 2011, as HTPC) with Lion via wifi via AVM Fritzbox 7390 to Microsoft Windows Home Server 2011 (Windows Server 2008).
    - Apple iMac (Late 2010, desktop PC) with Snow Leopard by Lan on AVM Fritzbox 7270 on Microsoft Windows Home Server V1 (Windows Server 2003)
All operating systems on current conditions with all patches and updates.
The Fritz boxes running with the latest firmware
    Now to the problem:
Both Macs are loosing every 30 minutes the contact to the server. The connection is "re-"established about 1-2 minutes later. On MacMini (HTPC), the film or music is stopped for the above period. Thereafter, the film / music goes on. With the iMac (workstation) a document loaded from the server can no longer be saved or printed.
The MacMini has shown this phenomenon directly in connection with the WHS. However, the iMac has been working about 1.5 years with no problems. This problem only occurs for about 6-9 months
Because of different WHS and OS X versions are affected and also different Fritz boxes are used and it seems to be a general problem in the interplay Windows / OS X to be present.
When the iMac is the exact date of disconnection does not occur.
With the Mac Mini, the time can however be determined relatively easily. From the Event Viewer on Windows Server is unfortunately no clear error image. At the particular time but appeared relatively often, but not always (!) In Windows Security Logs the error 4625 (Failed to log on an account) on. This would indicate a rights issue.
Searching for a solution (so far unsuccessfully, unfortunately), I stumbled over the problem of the Server Infrastructure License Services (silsvc) in Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials (every 30 min!). Maybe a connection?

Hi, and thank you for your reply!
My reason for not posting this in the server forum is that I suspect it is a clien issue. All my other clients connect happily to the server which leads me to believe the server is configured correctly.
Only my the two MacBook Pro's are having problems.

  • Call Home w/o SMTP Server

The Cisco 9216i switch's mgmt interface is on a private LAN that does not have an SMTP server. Is it possible to route outbound email through a gigE interface which is also an FCIP ISL?
Has anyone had success at implementing Call home without a SMTP server? For instance, it would seem feasible to forward either SysLog or SNMP Traps to a receiver then have email initiated from the receiver.
This seems like a weird limitation given all of the other capabilities of the switch.
    Thanks, Craig

    Hi Craig,
Callhome through the gigE won't work. Reasoning is as follows. When you do a Callhome alert, the Callhome process will attempt to setup an SMTP connection. If you define a static route out the gigE interface then it will at least initiate the first TCP SYN out the gigE interface. The SYN packet is destined for the SMTP server (tcp port 25) and will be sourced with the gigE interface ip address. But when the SMTP server replies the TCP stack behind the gigE interface will issue a RST (reset). This is because the gigE TCP stack will not accept TCP connections other than FCIP or iSCSI. This is by design. For the same reason you cannot bring up the MDS http welcome screen through the gigE ip address.
You can however use IPFC to route the Callhome SMTP traffic over the FCIP ISL to a remote switch that is acting as a default IP gateway, but of course the remote switch must have ip connectivity via it's mgmt interface to the SMTP server.
Lastly, Callhome always requires an SMTP server. Forwarding traps to an external management server that then uses email or pager is an alternative to Callhome...you won't need to enable Callhome feature to do that.

  • Looking for a server connection and hangs when I take my air home

Everytime I open motion on my new Air it seeks a server connection and then comes back with "can't find 10.10.1.101".  It then hangs again for a few minutes with the same message. It tries a third time again with the same message and then gives up and allows me to work unimpeded.
I trashed prefs and can't find anyway else to un-make this desire to attach itself to my work server. Any ideas out there?

The easiest and best way is using 1) - change the SMTP server used for your work email account when at home.
I assume you must use the SMTP server for your work account to send messages with your personal account when at work?
There is a collection of AppleScripts available called Mail Scripts you can download at this link.
    http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html
The script you want to use from the collection of scripts is Change SMTP Server (Mail) to switch between different already defined SMTP servers or define a new one. This is especially useful if you are using your computer in more than one location and have to switch servers for several accounts at once.
Thunderbird includes a setting for changing the default SMTP server used for all accounts but this must be selected/changed by location which is not much or any different.

  • Difference between Call home and smart call home.

    To my understanding -
Call home - I configure the SMTP server and I do few other configuration, which can enable be to send emails to desired recepients for any severity.
Smart call home - Striving to achieve auto TAC case registry for a severity.
    Is this correct ?
I just read the config guide and didn't understand the importance of switching priority..

    Keny,
    Just a clarification -
I can go ahead with the call home configuration , without smart call home being configured, isn't it ? ( just as an alerting system local to UCS for few recepients )

  • New Server Accounts and Home Directories

    Greetings Everyone,
Hoping someone here has enough patience to help me figure out what I'm sure is a realtively simple problem...
I'm setting up a Mac Mini Server (10.6.8) in my Unviersity Lab and connecting 6 Mac Mini's (Snow Leopard). We have a bunch of people that need accounts, and obviously using a network account run from the server is the simplest and best option.
As I'm not THAT familiar with servers and/or Mac's, I've spent quite a bit of time looking through the Workgroup Manager and Server Preferences, and have managed to set up accounts for everyone and tweak them to my desired preferences.
However, when I try to login to a user network account from another computer, the login screen "shakes" and does not allow me to login. After some sleuthing through various forums, I've come to the conclusion that my "home Directories" are not set up properly.
This is where I am confused. I understand the idea behind the home directory, but do not know what to type in the dialog box in the following fields:
Mac OS X Server/Shar Point URL (afp?)
    Path to Home Folder
    Full Path
I plan to make the home directories on the Mac Mini Server's Secondary Hardrive under a folder called "Lab group".
Can anyone guide me to a tutorial or perhaps let me know what I should write in that field?
Also, if anyone has any great resources on setting up servers, that would be fantastic.
Many thanks (and apologies for such a silly question).
    Cheers.

The first step is to define an AFP sharepoint in Server Admin, and check the box for "Enable Automount" (under the share point tab) which you then set for user home folders and group folders.
Then, in WGM, on the Home tab for each of your users, you will see that sharepoint as an option. Simply select it, click "create home now" and then save.
