Font "Calibri" looks odd

Hi,
I want to use the font "Calibri", but it looks odd everywhere. That means it is not vertically centered.
I just set -fx-font-family: Calibri; in .root
What should I do?

Can you post an image somewhere of how the font looks odd and link to it?
Are you using the latest 2.1 developer build which enables LCD text on controls on Windows?
I don't think the LCD text feature is enabled by default on Mac or plain Text nodes which you add to your scene.
Are you using a Mac or Windows machine?
If Windows, is it 7 or XP?
If Windows, does it have ClearType turned on http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleartype/tuner/step1.aspx?
For XP, you may need to download a PowerToy from the linked page to enable ClearType, for Windows 7 it may turn on ClearType by default, but you could check somewhere in the Windows 7 control panel to see.
Note that if you also want to target a Mac or Linux, it may not have the Calibri font available by default, so you may want to bundle it with your application (see the using custom fonts documentation: http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2.0/text/jfxpub-text.htm). Note that bundling custom fonts gave errors for me in some of the 2.1 builds - I believe it has been fixed now, but I'm not sure if the fix has made it into the developer preview builds yet. The font is available here => http://www.labnol.org/software/tutorials/free-download-calibri-font-on-mac/3684/. I don't know what the license clauses on bundling Calibri are though, so you may want to check that first.

Does this essentially mean there is no way to fix this problem on my end? It's a pity because the design and branding of my brochure will suffer if I remove transparencies and use different fonts. It also concerns me moving forward because it means the quality of print on my pieces will be significantly lower because most commercial printers use Adobe products.

  • Keynote - The font Calibri is missing. Your text might look different.

Since updating Keynote app, I keep getting the following message every time I open my presentation...even when I have made other changes:
Some changes were made to your presentation.  The font Calibri is missing. Your text might look different.
With over 100 slides, how can I find the font?  Keynote used to make the change for you and you would never see this message again.  Its so annoying. Also, why have you taken away so many of the easy functions like replacing images.  Now it takes additional steps..sure hurts productivity.

The fonts on iOS are a limited set of fonts system wide.
Only really few app allow to install custom fonts. I assume that apple trys to prevent compatibility problems with the system.
May i guess is that you have reused a PowerPoint-Template? The message is clear for Calibri is one of the standard fonts of MS-Office and not on the Mac or iOS by default. I get this message regularly whe opening Office-docs.
When you are using styles the soultion should be easy: change the styles to a font that is on the iPad too - as  Times. The changed styles should affect the whole document.
And don´t forget the master slices for they got font formats too.

How do I get Firefox to DISPLAY a font as clear and clean as Word? I choose different fonts in Firefox and sizes and nothing really happens.

You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages:

  • Getting Consolas font to look like Windows

    Hey all,
I just got Arch installed with KDE, and I must say I'm liking it a lot because Arch seems like the only distro with up to date versions of chrome and gcc. But I digress.
I'm having problems getting fonts to look good. I've tried following the directions on the Fonts page on the wiki with regards to subpixel rendering (which might end up not being the problem, I don't know), but it hasn't helped. In particular, my favourite font, Consolas, looks pretty bad on Arch.
Here's Windows 7, which is how I would like it to look:
    And here's Arch:
The Arch version isn't nearly as smooth, and it looks especially bad in the console (Konsole) and in my web browser (Chrome). Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks.

Hi brebs, thanks for the reply. I had tried installing infinality, but I can't because pacman says this:

    resolving dependencies...
    looking for inter-conflicts...
    :: freetype2-infinality and freetype2-ubuntu are in conflict (freetype2). Remove freetype2-ubuntu? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: fontconfig-ubuntu: requires freetype2-ubuntu>=2.3.11
    :: libxft-ubuntu: requires freetype2-ubuntu
I'm sorry if this is a stupid mistake, I'm pretty new to Arch and linux in general. What should I do?

  • Font display looks awful all of a sudden

I don't recall making ANY changes to my Prefs, but fonts are looking rancid. I've tried changing the prefs, but the fonts I choose never seem to be displayed. I've deleted the apple.com.safari.fonts.plist file in case it had been corrupted, but no dice! What am I overlooking?

  • Event structure font looks odd in pixmap

This thread on LAVA discusses using OCR to retrieve Event Structure frame text.  I've been playing around with this and I've found an issue between my home and work computers that has me puzzled.
This snippet shows how the Frame Selection text looks on my work computer when converted to a pixmap, but it's illegible.  On my home computer it looks fine.  Can you think of anything that might explain this?  I'd sure appreciate it if you could take the time to run this and post back your results.

  • Why do my TrueType fonts (from CS5 Contents/Goodies/Fonts folder) look awful?

I recently installed the fonts that ship with CS5 Web Premium. These are located in Content dvd in the Goodies>Fonts folder. the Open Type fonts look fine but all True Type fonts are pixelated...like the font isn't really there?  Can anyone advise?

Actually those fonts do ship with some versions of the Creative Suite. They are absolutely not for any print-oriented production. And yes, they look like that.
Actually, Adobe has produced a number of TrueType fonts. There are a series of "web pro" TrueType fonts produced over the years and still available. See http://store1.adobe.com/cfusion/store/html/index.cfm?store=OLS-US&event=displayFontPackage &code=1507.

  • How do I set the font to look the same as a webpage?

The left most is illustrator font Arial, regular, 14px.
Middle is firefox 4 font Arial, 14px,
    Right is Chrome Arial, 14px.
Illustrator's font looks thicker. Tried change the stroke, the auto-kern, but can't seem to get it thinner.
Chrome and Illustrator looks fine, but is it possible to make it look like in FF?

Font rednering is different in browsers. When in Illustrator CS5, you could test if a different Anti-aliasing setting might help. First "Show options" in the Character panel, then it's in the bottom right.

  • Font Issues, Looking for clarification

    Good Morning,
I am trying to insert pages into a manual. The pages I am inserting are CAD drawings that were created with AutoCAD Civil 3D and printed to pdf.
    1) Drawing #1.pdf
    2) Drawing #2.pdf
Sometimes when I add the drawings to a new pdf using the insert command, the fonts mess up and show little squares instead of a random letter, such as f or ".
There are about 100 drawings to insert. Can anyone explain what is going on here? Or some settings to check? I thought PDF was supposed to be portable document format.
I have tried a few things such as:
#1 Embed font, #2 Non-embedded font, this makes squares.
#1 Embed font, #2 Embed font, this does not make squares. (Font is the same, ArialMT)

I was hoping to avoid having to reprint all the drawings, in the future I'm going to embed fonts in anything I do to prevent this from happening again. It is frustrating as you will be inserting drawings (from other users) and everything looks good. Then when you insert the 99th drawing, it messes up 30% of the previous drawings fonts.
    Anyway thanks for the input.

  • Font sizes look small on screen

why do fonts look much smaller on my screen than they do in print? 12 point fonts look more like 4 point fonts. But if I up the screen size so I can see it (and my eyesight is not that bad), then if I print something it is humonguous. bad case of what you see is not what you get, anyone know why this is?

My only suggestion would be to reduce your resolution...
How have you got your page set up in word? If it shows the actual page (as it were), then it'd be a lot easier to guess what size it's gonna come out on the page...
You could always zoom in on the page in word?
But as mentioned, apple key and the + key will make the text appear large in firefox

  • Safari looks odd after upgrading to snow leopard

As the title said, I just installed snow leopard I received today. Safari looks really odd (see the screenshot below. The toolbar and bookmarks bar have different colors). I had an unofficial theme installed on leopard. I didn't have it uninstalled before upgrading. Dose it account for this?? Anybody have idea about how to fix this? Thanks.
You can see the picture here:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/41947024@N06/3865661667/

The file you need to locate and remove is found here:
    "~/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist"
I forgot to look inside it before I deleted it, but I can't imagine you're going to have any trouble after removing it.
For anyone who doesn't know how to remove this, you can pop open Terminal.app and paste the following command, which will put the file on your desktop for you to decide what to do with it. Then re-launch Safari.
    "mv ~/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist ~/Desktop/GlobalPreferences.plist"
