Forcing a "Save As"/"Export" Command

Is there a Terminal command that you can use to force any given app to "Save As" or "Export", such as a sudo command?

Nope. Save is a pretty straightfoward command supported by many applications.
osascript -e 'tell application "QuickTime Player" to save document 1 in (path to desktop as text) & "my.mov"'
There are additional options it supports such as an 'as' parameter where you can define the file format. If you open the app in Script Editor (drag QuickTime Player to Script Editor.app) you'll see the dictionary of commands it supports and their various parameters.

Script for using layer name in Save for Web command

I am using the Save for Web command (Illustrator CS2) to export layers to CSS so that each layer is saved as a different jpg. The only issue I have is that I want the layer name to be part of the file name, but layer name is not an option when I look at the "Edit Output settings" dialog for saving files. Is there anyway I can do this? I do not have experience writing or working with scripts.
For example. My fiel name is flower.ai. I will have 20 different layers (each containing a different color of the same image) and want the exported file to be flower-scarlet.jpg, flower-cranberry,jpg, etc. Right now I am looking at renaming all the files manually, but as I am creating 40 images per product on my website, this will be very time consuming.

Btw.. to make it work for JPGs, change the PNG options to the following:

Could not complete the export command because of an application error

Every once in awhile I get the error, "Could not complete the export command because of an application error" when using the Save for Web option. It's really confusing because the error is not consistent. I don't get it all the time. In fact, 99% of the time I can save with no problems. When I quit Photoshop and reopen my files they seem to save just fine. Does anyone know why this happens, and how to prevent it from happening in the future?
Here are my specs:
Macintosh: iMac
OS: 10.6.8
Photoshop: CS3 (v10.0.1)

No idea about the specific issue, but I like to pass on some general advice I have received myself here over time:

Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

How do I save or export my web pages as PDF files?

I'm trying to save or export web pages from my Firefox that I'm using on Windows Vista as PDF files. There isn't an option for this nor any information in your help files on this. Thanks for your time and I look forward to a response.

Actually, you should right-click on the collection and choose the command Export This Collection As Catalog (and check the box next to Include Negatives). This will create a new catalog and you can move this and the photos thus created to the 2nd computer and then in Lightroom on the 2nd computer use File->Import from Another catalog

Could not complete the export command because the file could not be found

When I try to save for web, Photoshop pops up a dialog box that says "could not complete the export command because the file could not be found".
What is the solution for this?

Please provide more information (Photoshop version, OS, target volume, …).

How do I save or export my collections?

How do I backup, save, or export my collections? I have about 20 collections. I want to be able to restore them all if my computer crashes and I need to pull everything up on a new computer. I may also want to have my collections accessible on a secondary computer.

I just finished a sketch of my project and I'm about to build it in siena. I'll be able to build almost everything with this version of siena. However one important feature is still missing and before I start to build it I would like to know if you planning
to implement the feature into siena or no.
I need a command for importing and exporting data or ability to chose a location for saving and loading data. I need to share app data with other users on company network and I don't want the data to be save on device. I can't use a internet so the
only way is local network

In today version:
You can save load data but only somewhere in your device so the saved data can not be shared with other device
You can import export data even multiple data but only by pressing import export button so an importing or exporting can not be done without user intervention.
I need to save or export data each time I collect or update collection into already predefined location
so the data can be shared between multiple devices
without user intervention.
For example: I have two users in one company with two devices. First user collect a collection in the app and automatically save it on a network. Second user open the app and he will see the change what first user did.
(Once again I can't use internet connection)
The solution: In collect button
OnSelect: Collect(collection: ID:1, Name:"XYZ"); Export(collection, "C:\Shared\Appdata\collection")
In screen with collection
OnScreenLoad: Import(collection,"C:\Shared\Appdata\collection")
The location for saving and loading can be saved and modified on device. Import(collection, savedLoacation)

Export command throws error?

1. where is my tcsh history file?
You need to configure tcsh to save history. Something like this in .tcshrc or .login
set histdup=erase
set history=500
set savehist=500
The file .history will be created by the shell.
2. How to hinder the grayed out history in my tcsh window at start up?
I'm guessing that sourcing perlbrew's bashrc is screwing up tcsh when it attempts to read it. The path of least resistance would be to change your shell to bash so you can use perlbrew. If you want to keep tcsh as your interactive shell then source perlbrew's bashrc in the .bashrc in your home directory. Create a bash sub-shell by typing bash in your tcsh shell.

No export command in Nexus 1010

We want to do a backup of a virtual-service-blade in a Nexus 1010. The document we are following is:

The export command was a new feature added in the 4.2(1)SP1(3) version of code. Your 1010 is one rev lower.
You'll need to upgrade the code on the 1010 to the latest code to get the export command.
The upgrade is pretty straight forward. Just download the code and follow the upgrade guide.

Export Web Application [EXPORT] Command in WAD

HI Gurus,
Here is a strange problem. I would like a real solution because I've read just about any documentation there is out there. So, thanks for thoughtful answers in advance.
We created a custom template ZZANALYSIS_PATTERN off of SAP delivered standard 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN. We have also created a copy of 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN_EXPORT to ZZANALYSIS_PATTERN_EXPORT template in order to modify the look and feel of how reports look once exported to MS Excel.
Here is the problem. When specifying parameters for Export command, we put ZZANALYSIS_PATTERN_EXPORT in the Internal Display -> Web Template section which forces it to go to that new custom template once user clicks on Export to Excel button vs going through a standard 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN_EXPORT template. The problem is that once that setting is specified when we test an extra pop-up window shows up when clickin on Export to Excel button - http://server/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.ip.bi.web.portal.integration.launcher. That window is confusing to the users and it never closes, just blank window stays. Now, if we go back to Export command parameters in WAD and reset/leave the Default parameter setting for Internal Display section, no extra pop-up is showed and the user just gets open Excel file little window, which is what we need. So, that makes me wonder if there is some kind of backend config table where this Default setting could be changed from 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN_EXPORT to ZZANALYSIS_PATTERN_EXPORT, or maybe it is something in the BEx Web Analyzer iView in the portal.

I have done this before long time ago. Yes there is no specific web item available to export as .txt ot TAB delimited file. But, it is possible from hard coding the HTML script in WAD to achieve it.

There is a web item 'Menu bar' available in WAD 7.0.
There, you can set the Action (Command Triggered) (ACTION) property to Export Web Application and achieve the functionality of exporting to excel.

Save A Copy Command

I've got an indesign files which is over 200MB, I used the "save a copy" command and the file size has reduced to 70MB, can anyone tell me why that happens? Thanking you!

Not part of the file.
Saving a 200 MB or larger file, especially over a network, can take a while and force you to pause, maybe up to a minute, when saving. Not only is that annoying, it's a disincentive to sae, which can be much worse than annoying. So InDesign saves your changes to the file, which are usually a very small amount of data relative to the file size. Save As when you're done with the file to get he size down.

I cannot simply open Word documents. I am forced to save them in order to view them.

In firefox, IE, and chrome, I try to open Word documents and am forced to save them in order to view them. I do not get the box that asks whether I want to save or open (and yes, I have the option to always ask checked in my settings). When I find the document in my folders, it tells me I'm in protected view when viewing my documents. This has only started recently. The only thing new I've done to the computer recently is update firefox. However, this problem is occurring in all my browsers.
(I do not have this problem opening other files, like PDF. I still get the option to open or save with files other than Word documents.)
I have run my Sophos antivirus and have found nothing. I have suspected rookit, but hope it is less serious.
I also do not wish to download any new programs in order to fix this problem.

So you don't receive any popup window asking you to save or view the document? The download just begins all by itself.

Motion 4 crashes while trying to save or export

The program works fine when I'm in it, but crashes the minute I try to save or export. Here is what I have tried to do so far. First I just unistalled Motion from a article I found off of Apple's website and then re-installed. Didn't work. I then used Digital Rebellion's FCS Remover and removed the entire Final Cut Studio and then re-installed and downloaded the latest updates. Still didn't work. I've started in Safe Mode, zapped the PRAM, repaired permissions, trashed preferences still didn't work.
The machine I'm trying to get to work is the following:
Mac Pro (early 2009)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120
8GB of RAM
OS X 10.6.8
I can render a Motion project in Final Cut and Compressor and can also see it in QuickTime, granted these where all files before I started having this issue. If I just open Motion with a empty project and hit save, it crashes.
If I posted a crash log file, do you really know what you are looking for or just guessing? I've combed through it myself and not sure what it is the problem, but if you can identify the issue I will post one.
Any thoughts???

Okay, so I happened accross the following link that described what the issue is. There main problem was with DVDSP but someone suggested I try it to see if it works and voila. It fixed my Motion issue completely. Oddly enough someone else in our department was experiencing a DVDSP problem where it would crash everytime you tried to load an asset. Applied the same technique described below and works.
Basically it had something to do with a new version of ProKit. On the website they say that you need to reverse ProKit to an older version, version 5.1, which is compatible with Snow Leopard. I noticed that the folder in which to find ProKit I actually had two:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
ProKit.framework - this was version 7.01
ProKit(SnowLeopard).framework - this was version 5.1
Basically what I did was copy ProKit(SnowLeopard).framework to the Desktop.
Drag ProKit.framework to the trash
Rename the ProKit(SnowLeopard).framework on the Desktop to ProKit.framework and put it back into /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
You'll probably need to authenticate somewhere in all of this.
I went ahead a left the Prokit(SnowLeopard).framework in the PrivateFrameworks folder, so this is what it ends up looking like:
ProKit.framework - this was version 5.1
ProKit(SnowLeopard).framework - this was version 5.1
Before I test it out. I restarted then emptied the Trash.
