Foreign Character Support (FTP)

(From Davin Oishi)
Foreign characters are supported  via unicode.  FTP client must be unicode compliant.  If the client  doesn't support unicode, you can turn unicode off and set the file  encoding language.
FTP through Microsoft Internet Explorer (for example)  doesn't support unicode.

  • Why can't I import clips with foreign character file names?

    What the **** man?
    I've got a series of clips with foreign character file names that FCP will not let me access via the Import->File method. Some of the offending character sets include Chinese, Arabic, and a couple of less well known Unicode sets like Cherokee and Inuktitus.
    What's interesting is that I can easily drag the clips onto the TL manually via Finder, but not File->Import. Also, XML passed to FCP that includes foreign character file names is ignored. Seeing as FCP is an Apple product I would have expected proper Unicode support 4 years ago.
    Obviously I don't need a workaround per se... But I'd very much like to know why this is the way it is. We're developers doing development work for FCP so it's important for us.

    Then you have a more direct path to the FCP engineers than this forum. Send them feedback directly. This place is user to user - no apple employees are officially here.

  • Traditional character support --Locale

  • Foreign Character Issue in Messages sent to MQ Series Queue

    Hi Experts,
    We are having a IDOC to JMS Scenario.We receive the IDOC and Convert it into a Single Line Flat File using a JAVA Mapping.We send the flat file message to MQ series 6.0 Queue using a JMS adapter.
    We are facing issues when message contains foreign character like Chinese , German and Greek.
    The Input\Output payload looks fine in SXMB_MONI and in the JMS Channel payload. when the message is put in the MQ Series Queue. When we open the messages in the JMS Q, the Foreign Character looks as "?????".
    PFB some details on the Java Code and other Config Settings.
    1. We read the messages from the Input Stream as UTF-8 and do the Transformation and Write the Output as UTF-8
    we use writer class to write the output after conversion (shown below).
    Writer osw = new OutputStreamWriter (osOutput,"UTF-8");
    2. The MQ series is in UNIX box and CCSID of the Queue Manager is 819.
    we have set the CCSID of the JMS channel 819.
    can you please clarify in case any transformation is happening before placing the message in the queue and how to we handle this case from the channel or in the Java code.
    Some Sample Character are u0395u03A3u03A4u0399u0391u03A4u039Fu03A1u0399u0391-u03A4u0391u0392u0395u03A1u039Du0395u03A3-u039Au0391u03A6 , u039Au039Fu039Du0399u039Fu03A1u0394u039Fu03A5 u03A7u03A1u03A5u03A3u0391 , and some Chinese Characters too

    Hi All,
    Thank you all . My problem is not resolved yet
    I have one more useful info.
    I set the Transport Protocol as TCP\IP and Kept the JMS Compliant as WebsphereMQ (Non-JMS) in JMS Channel Parameters TAB. In additional Parameters TAB i have set  "JMS.TextMessage.charset"     as ISO-8859-1.In this Setting, The Characters looks perfectly fine when i browse and view the messages in MQ Series Q. Messages are sent in MQSTR format, where the message has no header value.
    Intially i had set JMS Compliant Field as "JMS Compliant" with additional param TAB set as ISO-8859-1, where the message is sent in MQHRF2 format containing header details. i also configure dynamic header values using AF_Modules to this header. Special Chars didnt work.
    Now in MQSTR due to missing Header values the messages are not being identified and routed properly by the end system from the MQ series.
    Now i need to find the missing loop, what happens when message is sent using WebSp MQ API's (MQSTR) and Java API (MQHRF2). I need to have MQHRF2 format with Messages body sent exactly as it is in MQSTR. Is there any parameter, which i need to set.
    can anyone help me in this  regard.

  • Non-ASCI character Support in OAM 11g

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to test the user authentication with Oracle Access Manager 11g.
    I am using Active Directory as the user repository and able to create a user with the user id containing non-ASCI value (say Äuser1) and AD allows for it creation and when i try to provide access to that user in the OAM''s application in the constraints tab, after selecting that user from repository and when I say Apply, I receive an error message saying that
    "The policy store is not available; please see the log file for more details."
    and in the weblogic server log, i can see an error with Error Code: 1461 with a description saying INSERT INTO JPS_ATTRS (JPS_ATTRS_ID, ATTRVAL, ATTRNAME, JPS_DN_ENTRYID) VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?).
    Can anybody know if there are constraints as such with respect to supporting on non-ASCI characters in OAM 11g?
    Thanks,

  • Foreign character set problem

    Hi Sergiusz, it looks like you are a character set guru. Maybe you would know how to solve my problem? I've got a working application under oracle xe, apache and embedded listener. I would like to switch to a new APEX listener with tomcat but there is a problem with a foreign character set. Existing pages with such characters are displayed correctly but if I type them in into an input filed they are not showing up correctly on the next page. This is done without even saving information in a database. I type in text in one field which is a source of an item on another page. These are character settings in my database.
    SQL> select value from nls_database_parameters where parameter = 'NLS_CHARACTERSET';
    VALUE
    AL32UTF8
    SQL> select value from nls_database_parameters where parameter = 'NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET';
    VALUE
    AL16UTF16
    Thanks,
    Art

    Hi Sergiusz, thank you for your help. After setting a URIEncoding to UTF-8 and some further research I was able to fix my problem. Here is the entire solution in case someone else needs it.
    1.) Change $CATALINA_HOME/conf/server.xml and add
    URIEncoding=UTF-8
    <Connector port="8090" protocol="HTTP/1.1"
    connectionTimeout="20000"
    redirectPort="8443" URIEncoding="UTF-8"/>
    2.) Copy $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/examples/WEB-INF/classes/filters/SetCharacterEncoding.class => $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/apex/WEB-INF/classes/filters
    3.) Add the following into $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/apex/WEB-INF/web.xml file after the last </servlet-mapping> tag.
    <filter>
    <filter-name>Set Character Encoding</filter-name>
    <filter-class>filters.SetCharacterEncodingFilter</filter-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>encoding</param-name>
    <param-value>UTF8</param-value>
    </init-param>
    </filter>
    <filter-mapping>
    <filter-name>Set Character Encoding</filter-name>
    <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
    </filter-mapping>

  • Does BO3.1 support FTPS (secured ftp)

    Hi,

    Does BO 3.1 support FTPS?
    Is it supported BO4.0 or 4.1?

    Hello,
    as Valdrin pointed out is it not supported as per default.
    Der was a Workaround available in XI Rel.2. You can try if you get it running under XI 3.x/BI 4.x.

  • Special character Support in IDM

    We have enabled the special character support in IDM as per the SUN documentation and we are able to populate the special charactes using the IDM admin console also. But when we run a flat file adapter to process a flat file having special character it fails.
    It simply displays the ? in place of special character.
    Has anyone solved this problem. Any help would be appriciated.
    Thanks

    Got the solution.
    We have to give the encoding in the Flat File adapter configuration.

  • Chinese character support for 6210 Nav

    I brought my mobile in Australia which cannot support Chinese characters (Traditional). Is there any application i can install so that my mobile can support Chinese characters (Traditional)?
    Francis

    easiest way to gain support for traditional chinese characters would be to take your phone to your local Nokia Care Centre and ask them to install additional languages and the character support that you require.
    please throw some kudos our way, it would mean a lot to us
    If you found this or someone's comments helpful or like what that person has to say, please give some Kudos to their post!

  • Need a fast implement: Unicode character support

    Dear Primavera Developer Team,
    We are in urgent need for a full range of Unicode character support in P6. Our customers in Vietnam really interested in P6 but problem remain when we want to input our language into the software. A strange thing is that with Primavera Contract Mangement we have no issue with those Unicode character but P6 both thick client and web app do not support so. It is a pain for us.
    Hope you consider this as soon as possible :((

    Offtopic, but did you know feh has a right click menu?  Rotation is in this menu.
    Oh yes, I do know the right click. but I guess I never looked hard enough for the rotation as I do it very infrequently. Thanks for the tip.
    How would I set feh, so that when I double click a image file, feh would start up and show that image? If I can get that (and I haven't tried that yet), I guess I can get rid of mirage then.
    That's not an feh config, that's a config for whatever file manager you are using.  I'm not sure of the options you'd need to pass feh because I always run it on the command line.

  • IPS 6.0 Supported FTP Server??

    Hi,is it true that we can only use supported ftp servers that are documented in cisco for updating ips signatures or image?
    ###cisco ips 6.x document ####
    The following FTP servers are supported for IPS software updates:
    • WU-FTPD 2.6.2 (Linux)
    • Solaris 2.8
    • Sambar 6.0 (Windows 2000)
    • Serv-U 5.0 (Windows 2000)
    • MS IIS 5.0 (Windows 2000)
    can we use ordinary ftp servers other than ftp servers listed above?? thanks

    When originally implemented the ftp auto update feature had several problems when using other ftp servers.
    The implementation has changed over the past few years, and become more generalized.
    So the listed FTP Servers are the ones "officially" tested and supported.
    However, it should work with most other FTP servers as well.
    I would recommend trying it with whatever FTP server you already have running. If it works then great; you are probably fine to keep using it.
    If it doesn't work with your FTP server, then you can contact the TAC. If it turns out to be an incompatability between the sensor and your FTP server, then the issue would have to be entered as an enhancement request to get your FTP server supported rather than an actual bug.
    We used to hear alot of incompatability problems with other FTP servers a few years ago.
    But I haven't heard of any in the past 2 years.
    If it is not working, then it is usually not a problem with the actual FTP server, but rather in how it was configured.
    Here are a few examples of issues that are sometimes seen, and can be avoided with configuration of the FTP server.
    Additional login messages can sometimes confuse the sensor (like warnings about who can access the box).
    The FTP server has to be configured to use unix style directory listings instead of windows style.
    Permissions on the files themselves can be a problem.
    Renaming of the files after being pulled from cisco.com can cause problems, so keep the filenames exactly as seen on the cisco.com pages.
    Keep directory names to letters and numbers to avoid parsing problems with the directory name.

  • Foreign language character support

    This question is for oracle 9i and above, on windows and linux.
    Is there a way to create a foreign language dictionary that contains words from 2 or more languages? The words are to be stored in the native character set of the
    language, along with the phonetic spelling and other data.
    Example:
    ENGLISH
    Main Entry: book
    Pronunciation: 'buk
    Function: noun
    Etymology: Middle English, from Old English bOc; akin to Old High German buoh book, Gothic boka letter
    1 a : a set of written sheets of skin or paper or tablets of wood or ivory b : a set of written, printed, or blank sheets bound together into a volume c : a long written or printed literary composition d : a major division of a treatise or literary work e : a record of a business's financial transactions or financial condition -- often used in plural <the books show a profit> f :
    GERMAN
    book
    bestseller -- das meistverkaufteste Buch des Jahres
    Bible -- das allein maßgebende Buch
    to bind a book -- ein Buch binden
    to bind a book in boards -- ein Buch kartonieren
    book -- das Buch
    a book for critical readers -- ein Buch für gehobene Ansprüche
    this book is mine -- das Buch gehört mir
    the book reads well -- das Buch liest sich gut
    the book sells well -- das Buch geht gut
    the book sells well -- das Buch verkauft sich gut
    that book there -- das Buch dort
    the book you want -- das Buch, das sie möchten?
    to dogear -- Eselsohren in ein Buch machen
    Table design
    language varchar2(15), -- eng, ger, rus, spn
    word varchar2(20),
    sound clob, -- mp3 file
    picture clob, -- jpeg file
    description varchar2(1000); -- mostly free text
    The SOUND mp3 file and picture jpeg files should be stored IN the database, not as
    an operating system file.
    Also, need to store special characters, such as diacritical marks
    (german unlaut ö, spanish tilde ~)
    I believe this will require supporting multiple character sets, simultaneously.
    Also, assuming this can be done, what are the implications for
    entering data via web based forms and creating reports?

    this is also an issue for text messaging and emails in non-latin character sets.
    also, in a related issue, i have some symbols in passwords (symbols in the latin alphabet like ~ and ^) that can't be recognized by the web browser.  so, i'm unable to log in to some of my website accounts.

  • Foreign character set issue

    Hi
    This might sound a bit silly, but stay with me.
    There's a database that decidedly supports UTF 8. I checked using this query
    select * from nls_database_parameters where parameter like '%CHARACTERSET'
    And got this result
    NLS_CHARACTERSET     UTF8
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET     AL16UTF16
    It's Oracle 10g.
    In a particular table, some text is stored in multiple languages. There are seven languages (English, Mandarin, Japanese, German...). Every language has 2-3 rows to itself. There's a column where I have to get rid of the trailing few characters, the number of which depends on the content of the string.
    But I cannot see any of the Eastern languages in TOAD. The column is in VARCHAR2.
    My problem is twofold.
    1. What functions do I use to ensure that only the last few bytes are truncated, and there's no data loss (which many websites gravely warn of when dealing with foreign language data) ?
    2. How can I see this foreign language text in TOAD/SQLPlus?
    (Yes, I'm kind of new to the whole multiple-language-game. Please let me know if I've left out any important detail!)

    Do you have metalink access?
    If so, please see the notes below, there's a lot of good information in them:
    158577.1 - NLS_LANG explained
    260893.1 - Unicode Character Sets in the Database
    788156.1 - UTF8 implications
    With any character set situation there are at least two and a bit sides to the equation.
    First is whether you are storing the correct data.
    You're best using the DUMP function to inspect the stored data, e.g.
    SELECT DUMP(<column_name>) FROM <table_name> WHERE ....This function may help you with your truncation of the last few bytes - not sure why you need to do this?
    The "second and a bit" bit is having the correct client settings - NLS_LANG - and using a client which supports the characters required.
    SQL*Plus has it's limitations here. Toad I don't know well enough but it should support full UTF8 characters.
    SQL*Developer and iSQL*Plus both should support the full UTF8 - I tend to use the former, particularly for UTF8.
