"Forgot my password" functionality with OID

We would like to implement "Forgot my password" functionality with a J2EE web app that authenticates against OID. This feature would allow the user to enter their email address, click a button and the system would send the user their password via email, if it could find the matching OID entry.
Has anyone done this without using cleartext passwords in OID?

Check out the "Password Reset Validation" option. I think it is a safer solution than sending users clear text passwords.

"Forgot Password" functionality with self-registration

We configured self-registration with approval in our portal. One of the functional requirement is having a "forget password" functionality. We are aware that portal password are encrypted one way, and we can't send the password back to the user. One option, is to reset the user's password to a temp password. How can we do something like that? And, are there other options?

This issue was resolved by setting the property bharosa.uio.default.ForgotPassword.ChallengeQuestion.timestochallenge from 3 to 1. But still I are unsure how changing this property settings resolved OTP issue.

Forgot-Your-Password process with multiple realms

We’re running OAS 10.2.0.2 and we’re considering adding a second identity management realm in order to have, among other things, a different set of password reset validation fields for one group of portal users versus another group.
With two realms in place and OID/SSO configured so that all users from both realms use a common login mechanism, and, presumably, one forgot-your-password mechanism, will the password rest validation fields that are enforced for a given user automatically be based on the realm of which they are a member?
More specifically, will all users from both realms be able to use one common URL to access the OIDDAS forgot-your-password wizard? If so, I’m assuming that when the user enters their username in that wizard, they are then searched against their realm and the policies of that realm then come into play for the rest of the wizard, right?
In other words, with two realms, is this scenario possible without any custom programming:
We have a link to the OIDDAS forgot-your-password link on our existing portal login.jsp page. User A clicks that link and is taken to the OIDDAS forgot-your-password wizard. First he is asked for his username, which he supplies. Then, to verify his identity, he is asked for his Social Security Number, which he supplies, after which he is able to set a new password.
User B, who is in a different realm, clicks the same forgot-your-password link on our login page. After supplying his username, he is asked for his employee I.D. number, which has been configured as the password reset validator in his realm. After supplying that number, he is able to change his password.

AFAIK each OID realm has its own set of policies.
This would mean that your setup should work. I guess the only difficult thing would be that a user must somehow be uniquely identifiable. When you login into OID with multiple realms you need to supply the realm - or have a unique ID (eg email address) and OID must be setup to search from the top.
In order to get to the right forget your pwd wizard you need the realm.

Forgot password functionality not working - OAM

Hi,
I have issues with the forgot password functionality with OAM
The password policy is configured and its enabled for the users. The password redirect URLs are also available as part of the password policy configuration.
When i click on the forgot password link getting the following message
"This feature is not configured. Please contact the master administrator"

If I remembered correctly, you need to setup the challenge questions and answers to enable forget password feature. This require updating the LDAP schema etc. The steps are described in OAM documentation.

MichaelHWG, I used your instructions and took screen shots, because this is *really* useful information, and screenshots help clarify.
Step 1 and 2: Click on START and then click on your picture up above.
Step 3: Click on Create Password Reset Disk.
Step 4: Press Next
Step 5: Press Next

Customize 'Forgot Your Password Link'

HI,
I want to customize 'Forgot your password' link that appears on the login page.
Basically when you click on that link and enter Username and submit it.
This launches a workflow UMXUPWD.
I need my custom workflow to launch on clicking on this link instead of this standard workflow UMXUPWD.
Any ideas on how this can be achived will be of great help.

I understand. My point was is you may try to customize the item type which is associated with Forgot your Password functionality.
Please note that the changes will be reverted back if you apply any patch which replaces this item type. You could log a SR and confirm with Oracle support if customizing this item type is supported (or if there is a way to replace this item type with a new custom one).

Forgot Password Functionality.

I've gone through some of the metalink notes to understand how the oracle provided forgot password link works in applications.
My findings were:
1) Have to set value to 8 for "Local Login Mask".
2) WF Notification Mailer needs to be set, with IMAP Server configuration to get incoming mail.
Hope, these two configurations is enough to enable the oracle provided forgot functionality. Please let me confirm this. - If it is not, please let me know what are the other configurations are required.
Also read, User Management need to be configured - Is this true ? If it is please suggest some document.
Also found one another metalink note as we dont have IMAP server set- regarding implementing forgot password functionality without inbound server. I've followed the note, still i am not getting mail to my outlook.

Hi,
You can use the wwv_flow_fnd_user API. This API has a reset_pw procedure with these arguments:
P_USER VARCHAR2 IN
P_SECURITY_GROUP_ID VARCHAR2 IN
P_MSG VARCHAR2 IN

When I checked the support site for Romania, you apparently don't have an Apple Care contact center. You "may" try calling the US Apple care number to verify the account and have the password reset sent to a different email address. 800-694-7466

I have switched my password in the past, so my theory is my mac mini thinks that my password has not changed and it will not update because The Wi-Fi password has also changed so it cannot connect to any servers...Does that sound like I am on the right track?

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise, boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type this:
resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
Select
 ▹ Restart
from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.

ICloud with old App ID and password, and I don't know the password. There is no "forgot my password" tab -what can I do about this?

So I made an App ID for a very long time ago, now it happens that I forgot the password, and mad a new App ID. from here I have not been able to use iCloud because I don't have the same ID and have forgotten the question. Nor is there a "forgotten your password" tab. I have an iPhone4s if that maters. What can I do?
