Frame Swap in Netweaver

Hi All,
I have question related to swpping monitored using ST02.
I read about "Frame Swaps" and found note 121808 (Swaps in program buffer although space is free) pertaining to the same.
The note speaks of parameter "abap/buffersize_part1" which leads to the term "Frames swapped".
It also says that the parameter does not have any effect as of Release 4.5A.
I would like to know the relevance of the "Frames Swapped" in performance tunning of Netweaver 700 systems.
As also how is the loading of large programs taken care or implemented in 700 systems?
Regards,
Navin Shettigar

Thanks manoj for the answer.
I do agree with your analysis of note but my query is not specific to the note.
The "Framed Swaps" entry still comes in 700 system while doing inidividual buffer analysis in ST02 along with "Object Swaps".
I am presuming that there has to be some use in 700 system else SAP wouldnt have kept the record for "Framed Swaps".

  • PROBLEM: AE Rendered Footage Jittery. Frame Swapping?

    Hey everyone,
I recently shot some footages of my friend playing some basketball and decided to make a cloning video out of it. I imported the video file (605.mts) to AECS4, divided up, and layered the clips.
However, for some odd reason, the footage becomes jittery in preview and after export. It's like some frames got moved around. Perhaps the video itself would better explain things for me.
I shot the footage with a Canon Vixia HF100, which shoots in AVCHD that uses .MTS file format. I'm on a quadcore computer, 4gigs of ram. Using Adobe AE CS4. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks

Hum, this looks like an interpretation problem of your AVCHD file.
Short answer: AE struggles to read correctly your file.
Long answer: AVCHD has ton of flavors and revisions based on the original recorder device (camera), and the recording mode (preset you choose). AE supports most of those flavors, but new ones are released everyday on the market, making it difficult to be a reliable format. If you have not yet updated to 9.0.2, I recommand updating now as your AVCHD flavor support might be included in the update.
If it dones't change anything, I recommand you converting your file to a lossless codec format (like QT animation) to manipulate it correctly inside AE.
You can try the free converting tool MPEG Streemclip.
    Hope that helps

  • Premiere MPEG2 encode frame swapping bug

We film and edit live shows ranging from 1 hour to 3 hours in length, recorded on DVCAM and digitised to DV widescreen preset. Final edits are encoded to Mpeg 2 DVD.
We are experiencing a bug across all 6 edit suites where a random frame from somewhere in a production is inserted further on in the
timeline, causing a quick flash/strobe. This occurs only in the encoded file and is not visible in the original sequence. Encoding
in Premiere, Encore or Media Encoder has the same results. Proof can be supplied if required.
This is a SERIOUS problem, especially as we may not be able to spot it before shipping the final DVD (in large numbers)
All systems are kept up to date with the latest updates but the bug has persisted since purchase.
We are using Adobe CS5 Production Premium, Windows 7 64 with NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800
Many thanks for any help that can be supplied.

I'm just finishing up a 3 1/2 hour film transfer job that is on 3 DVD's. I normally go Firewire out to my set top DVD recorder and have never had to watch every frame of the DVD to make sure that everything was ok. Same with videotape transfers. Were talking 100's of hours of footage here on a monthly basis. I do fast forward through the each DVD and check the chapter points but I would be out of business if I had to watch every film reel and videotape after it is transferred to DVD in real time to check for problems. Actually, since I edit all film transfers using Premiere every frame is checked during the editing process. I shouldn't have to do that again when making a DVD in Encore.
So, as a result of this problem with random frames popping up using Encore, I now have to export a DV AVi file out of Premiere use a competitors $50 consumer video editing software just to do an MPEG-2 transcode then import that MPEG-2 file back into Encore and add about 70 chapter points manually instead of the chapters automatically importing in from a Premiere sequence. Not what I call an efficient workflow anymore.

  • Program Buffer - High Number of Swaps

    Hi All,
We experiencing high number of program buffer swaps per day, they usually get into 500,000 - 700,000 range. Our abap/buffersize is 500,000 KB. It seems like the general suggestion of the buffersize is that it should be somewhere between 300-700 MB, which I thought 500 would be enough, at least enough no to have such huge numbers of swaps per day. The PHYS_MEMSIZE = 9057, as we have 16 GB of total server memory and 9 is dedicated to SAP, while the other 7 is to SQL Server. I have followed the note about zero admin memory management so other than PHYS_MEMSIZE parameter I don't think I have any memory restricting parameters in there.
In ST06 I always seem to have about 3 GB or physical memory free. We have release 640.
ST02 shows high number of objects swapped, and frames swapped always seem to be at 0. Looking at the buffer history, it seems like we always have only about 1500KB free space out of 500000KB, and the directories free are always around 114000. This makes me think that I should increase the buffer size, however maybe someone can suggest another reason why I have this scenario.
    Thank you in advance,
    Sergiy

    Hi,
Yes, increase your Abap buffer size. 500 MB is much too small.
On our old R/3 4.7 systems we need to allocate 1 GB for the Abap buffer.
We put also 1 GB as a minimum for new Netweaver 7.0 systems...

    Hi Carlos,
From ST02 you can "current parameters" button, that will tell all current parameters per buffer.
You are bound to have swaps in some buffers altough ideally the number should be 0. Less than 10,000 a day is the maximum recommended by SAP.
Have a look at the history of the buffer and check when the swaps happened etc. Is it daily or a one off because something abnormal was running on the system a particular day.
Then check if the swaps happen because you're running out of space in the buffer or number of entries allowed. Then you can start thinking of tuning it.
Remenber that the swaps you see are since startup, so look at the history as well.
Let me know if you need any more help.

  • Please help - motion tween + single frame

ok , so i know how to do motion tween... and i know how to do single frame swap outs (like for a mouth) but i can't do both
here is how i have it set up,
    full body
    (double click that)
    head
    (double click that)
    face
i have the head as single frame so i can use several mouths, but would also like the head to motion tween. is this possible?

Pl suggest me how can i have the hitratio more.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
Unfortunately we can not tell exactly why the value is low,
however it is not necessarily an incorrect value.
The quality of a buffer and how often it is accessed is measured by the
'%Hit Ratio'. This value will indicate if the information stored in the
buffers, such as table entries, programs and screens, is being hit
directly from the buffer itself or, on the other hand, if the system
needs to bring that data from the database since it was not found in the
    buffer.
To find out the buffers with poor quality, first check the system
startup time. When the system is started, all buffers (except the
program buffer which has a pre-load) are initially empty. Therefore,
all objects that are accessed for the first time have to be read from
the database and then loaded into the buffers.
If objects are not yet in the buffer, the hit ratio for the buffer will
be low. The hit ratio increases from the time objects are loaded into
the buffers. The rate of the increase depends on the workload in the
system and is different for each buffer. So it is to be noted that how often you restart the system which resuls in the loading of object again and causes hit rate to be low.
Poor buffer quality is not always due to a real problem. For example,
transports into a system can reduce buffer quality. Keep in mind though
that a value lower does not always shows that you have a problem.
A more pressing concern would be if we saw swaps on the system. As you
can see, there are no swaps.
Swapping occurs when the buffer is full, and the SAP System has to
load additional objects into the buffer. Objects in the buffer that
were used the least recently are removed. In this context, the term
"swap" means the objects removed from the buffer are lost and cannot
be replaced until a new database access is performed (replacing what
    was lost).
There are two possible reasons for swapping
1 There is no space left in the buffer data area
The buffer is too small. You should increase the buffer size.
2 There are no directory entries left.
Therefore, to conclude, although the hitratio appears low it does
not mean that there are any performance issues. The fact that there is
sufficient free space and there are no swaps confirm this.
You can try to increase size of intial record buffer(in steps) as from current setting it seems to be small.
    I hope this helps.

    Archana

  • Disjointed rollover question

I have a floor plan of a shopping center with 24 rollover buttons.  Each button has been sliced and linked to a frame (swap image) that shows the facade of a store.  All photos (24 in all) preside in the same location on the canvas.  Here is my problem,  when previewing, only ten of the buttons work.  No matter how I arrange and re-arrange behaviors, only ten buttons will link to the photos.  I have tried this several times and the result is the same. Does Fireworks place a limit on the number of disjointed rollovers?  I am using an older version (mx)...does anyone know if a later version fixed this?  Any help is certainly appreciated!

    Hi Joyce,
I spent some time playing with a practice file this morning and everthing seems to work okay now, so it was something I did wrong.  Thanks so much for your insight and advice.
I do have one more question.  On the attached file, which is the practice file I mentioned above, I want to form a second target to a trigger.  In my file, I inserted another slice and I linked the frame named SubLink Number 1 to trigger number 1.  My objective is to have the sublink L1 appear only when targeted image number 1 is triggered.  In the real world, this sublink would be either detailed pictures or text describing the original target scene when triggered.  When I proceeded to link Button number one to the sublink, it worked fine,  but it also appears when I pressed any of the other buttons...which is not a desirable event.  What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    Bob

  • No free space in directory entries for NTAB buffer

    Gurus ,
In ST02 -> for table definitions buffer there was a red alert with the SWAP count as 953275 .
hence i Double clicked on the swaps count to see the details , which is shown below ,
    efficiency :
    hit ratio  70
    size :
    allocated : 6799
    available  : 5703
    used        :5703
    free         : 0
    Directory entries :
    available : 20000
    used      : 20000
    free        : 0
    swaps :
    objects swapped : 953833
    frames swapped  : 0
what will happen if the 'directory entry '  and 'size' is zero we.
what process will get affected because of this ?
what i need to do next ..
    guide me gurus

    Hi Susin,
To Answer your question, directory free entries are '0' --> which means table definition buffer is full. That is the reason we can see "objects swapped : 953833"
Try to increase the size of table definition buffer which is low '6799' now.
I feel you can even  double the value and observe the performance.
For General information regarding Hit ratio and Swapping:
    Hope this helps.
For any other information, feel free to reply me.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Pavan Kumar Gali.

  • Assistance Tuning Buffers

    Hi Guys,
I would appreciate your assistance/recommendations with Buffer Tuning
Im experiencing high swapping on  Several Buffer as shown Below
Which considerations would you take for adjusting these buffers to optimal Values?
Do you estimate the parameters values by incrementing by 10-20% ? Or is there a better way to determine the best values.
Thanks a lot for your help.

    Hi Martin,
Since 20GB set to MSSQL DB, you can reserve 3GB for system application, process, backup, external process and etc.
Therefore, you can allocate 27GB to SAP system.
You can allocate 22GB to PHYS_MEMSIZE, abap/buffersize to 1000000 and 30% to SAP buffer in ST02 where you noticed alot of SWAP. Also, you can allocate additional space to rdisp/ROLL_SHM and rdisp/PG_SHM if the percentage of "In Memory used" is around or more than 80%.
You can check based on the history usage in ST02.
However, try not the exceed the shared memory of 27GB for total memory assigned for SAP system, you can check at ST02 -> detailed analysis -> storage.
    Cheers,

  • BSP timeout issue - 500 connection timeout(-5)

    Hi all,
I know there were quite a bit of postings regarding this topic, however, I could not locate the appropriate solution to the scenario that we are currently experiencing. Any input on this is greatly appreciated. We have also posted an OSS message regarding this as well.
    ERROR:
    500 Connection timed out (-5)
    Error: -5
    Version: 6020
    Component: ICM
    Module: icxxthr_mt.c
    Line: 2464
Detail: Connection to partner timed out
We have a stateless BSP application, and the page in question is set as "stateful from now until page change", and the page type is flow logic. We have this application running in production for a year now, and always receive complaints from a specific user that she can't load up her page (a 500 connection timeout(-5) error got displayed instead). Our basis folks have set up the TIMEOUT parameter as 900 secs, and the icm/keepalive parameter as 60 secs. We attempted to test with the same amount of data in both our test and production environments, and with the same system parameter settings (TIMEOUT and icm/keepalive parameters), however, we noticed we did not get timed out in our test environment, but continued to get a connection timeout error in the  production environment (only when we retrieved data from this user). We tried to troubleshoot by following the steps listed below.
    1) We tried to narrow down to see whether it was the data extraction part within the program that's prolonging the process. We executed the Function module in the backend (R/3) that will perform the data extraction of the program, and on average, it took about 100,000,000 microseconds to finish running in both environment. And most of the time, the Function Module in our production environment finished faster than our Test environment.
    2) Next step, we executed the BSP application via our portal environments(test and production), and we did not get a timeout error in the test envionrment; however, in our production environment, within 2 minutes or so, we received a connection timeout error.
The differences between the 2 systems is minimal, and in fact, our production server is much powerful (hardware wise) than our test system. Other than some "unknown to us" system settings (from looking at the error, it's ICM related?), I cannot think of what else will cause the connection timeout that we are currently facing. I spoke with our basis folks, and they have no idea either. Can this be user specific (I doubt it)?
Any help or input from anyone is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for all your help!!!
    Best regards,
    Cyanna

Thanks Raja and  Amandeep for your response. All the system profile are consistent across the production server. I have a question for Amandeep. What's exactly a frame swap application? Is it portal related? We are still trying to troubleshoot the issue, and we are still trying to figure out whether there is a system parameter difference between the 2 systems. We even checked the BSP performance wiki.....
Please, any help you can offer is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks much and regards,
    Cyanna

  • Reversed or swapped frame glitch in clips logged and transferred from GH2

    Hi
When I log and transfer 24p AVCHD footage from my panasonic GH2 in FCE I'm getting occasional swapped, backwards or reversed frames - it appears as a movement glitch in the final video file. What is happening is that every few minutes, I see this pattern: two frames will be swapped (they are in reverse order) then one frame where it should be, then another two that are swapped (or in reverse order).
I can't figure out a pattern as to when it happens, but it happens in the same place every time i transcode, even if i set different in/out points. Shows up when the resulting AIC files are played in quicktime player also.
However this glitch does NOT show up when i play the original AVCHD file from the camera in the log and transfer window or in VLC - so its not the camera's fault - it's FCE's transcoder.
You can fix it by just re-arranging the frames when editing, but its really annoying to try to find them all when you're editing a long project like a concert.
    Anyone else have this problem?
Or can anyone recommend a good and inexpensive 3rd party app to transcode my footage assuming I can't fix this in FCE?
    Thanks!

Actually it does support 24fps media, it just doesn't let you edit on a 24fps timeline, which makes working with 24fps media annoying - you end up with duplicated frames and therefore somewhat jerky motion.
But, what actually is coming out of the camera is this particular case is a 29.97fps video "labeled" as 24fps @ 80% speed - (I dunno - ask panasonic why they did that…). When you edit the headers of the resulting quicktime movie, you can get a 29.97fps 1080p video that works great in FCE's 1080p30 timeline (albeit without sound because the GH2 does not record it in this mode).
I could see that maybe FCE has a problem logging and capturing 24p footage since it does not support 24p timelines, but more likely seems to me like maybe an incompatibility with the AVCHD format in which the GH2 is shooting.
I'm trying out clipwrap, but unfortunately the demo wont go far enough into my clip to test if it fixes this glitch! (1 min time limit) Neither will the VoltaicHD demo.
