Frequent heap dumps and system load average
Dear Experts,
Performance of our development has gone worst. There has been frequent Heap Dumps and Paging, also System Load Average '/Kernel/SAPJVM/SystemProblemReporting/System Load Average' is over 133%.
We are using NW731 with EP core.
JVM parameters arememory are according to SAP recommendations
-Xms4096m
-Xmx4096m
-XX:NewSize=1365m
-XX:MaxNewSize=1365m
-XX:PermSize=1024m
-XX:MaxPermSize=1024m
-XX:NewRatio=6
SCS, Application and Database are on single host.
Number of nodes=2.
Physical memory size is 15GB
Appreciate your assistance in analyzing and fixing the performance issue.
Thanks,
Kumar
Hi Divyanshu,
I was away on to another project for configuring change control tool.
As mentioned earlier I don't have OS access.
But could able to download Thread Dumps via NWA as mentioned by David...., but couldn't able to open them.
Opened OOM.hprof file through MAT to check leak suspects etc. I could hardly understand as it is my first Java AS project ....here is bits and pieces from the dump analyzer tool.

System load average over 1.5 while cpu idle
Running 10.9.4. My load averages are continuously around 1.5 or higher while my cpu is around 95% idle, no apps running, I've just rebooted and logged in. This is very common now for my machine. Any suggestions? Thanks
On Unix systems that are idle I generally see near-zero load averages. I would expect OS X to be in that general vicinity and seem to recall seeing near-zero numbers in the past when the system is idle.

Quit Mail.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail. Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

Heap dumps on 32bit and 64 bit JVM
We are experiencing memory leak issues with one of our application deployed on JBOSS (SUN JVM 1.5, Win 32 OS). The application is already memory intensive and consumes the maximum heap (1.5 GB) allowed on a 32-bit JVM on Win32.
This leaves very few memory for heap dump and the JVM crashes whenever we try adding the heap dump flag (-agentlib:), with a "malloc error"..
Has anyone faced a scenario like this?
Alternatively for investigation purpose, we are trying to deploy it on a Windows X64 - but the vendor advises only to run on 32 bit JVM. Here is my question:
1) Can we run 32bit JVM on Windows 64? Even if we run, can i allocate more than 2 GB for heap memory?
2) I dont see the rational why we cannot run on 64bit JVM - because, JAVA programs are supposed to be 'platform-independent' and the application in form of byte code should be running no matter if it is a 32bit or 64-bit JVM?
3) Do we have any other better tools (except HPROF heapdumps) to analyze memory leaks - we tried using profiling tools but they too fail becos of very few memory available.
Any help is really appreciated! :-)

take special note that for each action in a bundle you can set a requirement - this is where you shold be specifying the appropriate architecture for the action, takes a bit longer to do but saves on the number of bundles and clogging up event logs with junk
modifying your existing actions in your bundles would probably be easier and make things cleaner to manage in the long term, this is more so the case when you have software that might only differ in the launch action depending on what program files folder it ends up in
Sorry to dig this late topic, but I've created a bundle which have an action that needs to be executed on 32 / 64 bits, each by an specific executable. Said,
(32 bits) ipxfer -s officescan.server -m 1 -p 8080 -c 63016
(64 bits) ipxfer_x64 -s officescan.server -m 1 -p 8080 -c 63016
So I added these two actions, marked each to have the correct arch ("Architecture / = / 32" or "Architecture / = / 64"), no fail on pre-requisite.
But now, every time one 32 bit machine executes the bundle, it gets an error:
Error starting "ipXfer_x64 -s officescan.server -m 1 -p 8080 -c 63016". Windows Error: This version of %1 is not compatible with the windows version in use. Please verify in your computer's system information if you need a x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program and contact software vendor
All the machines' CPU are 64 bits, but some of them have 32-bit Windows 7. These are the ones that are raising these errors.
I have other bundles restricted to 32/64 architectures, working correctly, but the restriction was created on the bundle level, not on the action level.
Sorry for the bad english. -
EM Agent get restarted on heap dump generation with jmap command
Hi all,
To find the cause of OutOfMemory error we are generating heap dump of perticular JVM process by using the command "jmap -dump:format=b,file=heap.bin <pid>".
But when we excute this command, then our all the other jvm process get crashed and it also crashed emagent process.
I would like to know the reason why these processes and specially emagent process
get crashed.
Regards,
$Hi Michal,
that looks indeed very odd. First, let me ask which version do you use? We had a problem in the past where classes loaded by the system class loader were not marked as garbage collection roots and hence were removed. This problem is fixed in the current version (1.1). If it is version 1.1, then I would love to have a look at the heap dump and find out if it is us.
Having said that, this is what we do: After parsing the heap dump, we remove objects which are not reachable from garbage collection roots. This is necessary, because the heap dump can contain garbage. For example, the mark-sweep-compact of the old/perm generation leaves some dead space in the form of int arrays or java.lang.Object to win time during the compacting phase: by leaving behind dead objects, not every live object has to be moved which means not every object needs a new address. This is the kind of garbage we remove.
Of course, we do not remove objects kept alive only by weak or soft references. To see what memory is kept alive only through weak or soft references, one can run the "Soft Reference Statistics" from the menu.
Kind regards,
- Andreas.

Heap dump file size vs heap size
Hi,
I'd like to clarify my doubts.
At the moment we're analyzing Sun JVM heap dumps from Solaris platform.
Observation is that heap dump file is around 1,1GB while after loading to SAP Memory Analyzer it displays statistics: "Heap: 193,656,968" which as I understood is size of heap.
After I run:
jmap -heap <PID>
I get following information:

So I'm just wondering what is this "Heap" in Statistic Information field visible in SAP Memory Analyzer.
When I go to Dominator Tree view, I look at Retained Heap column and I see that they roughly sum up to 193,656,968.
Could someone put some more light on it?
thanks

[Solved] Excessive high load average
My laptop seems to have an very excessive high load average. My system gets very slow even when I'm running openbox with a browser, terminal and music player. That is enough to make applications freeze for a few seconds. I've seen the load average goes higher 5.00. Right now I just logged in openbox using lxdm, open a browser and a terminal and my load average is 23:11:21 up 12 min, 2 users, load average: 1.15, 0.92, 0.58.

As yon can see the process 1367 is using 100% of the cpu. I have no idea why this is happening. Also my laptop isn't old. It has intel i5 processor with 4gm ram.
Anybody has an idea of what is happening?
EDIT: I just checked my load average again
[jesse@myarch ~]$ uptime
23:23:46 up 24 min, 3 users, load average: 4.42, 2.19, 1.25
That is an absurd value, isn't is? Ah, and my system is up to date, if anyone asks.
Last edited by sollidsnake (2012-02-17 12:35:34)well it looks like back in december there were some bugs reported with libglib2.0-0 2.31.2 that where causing this issue you can try updating to make sure you have the most current version.

Heap dumps on very large heap memory

I don't have experience with JBoss though.

Multiple Convert/Dump and Load tasks in a single SSIS package?
I'd appreciate some input. We have a single data file that has about 1,000,000 rows of data spanning 28 time periods in the columns across each row. The file is too large to import at one time, and so we have created 9 different transformation files to pull subsets of the timeperiods using MVAL. The end user does not want to have to break apart the file and/or schedule 9 separate imports to bring this file in each time. So, I've attempted to create a single SSIS package that runs each of the 9 required component imports, but I'm running into the following error any time that I try to run more than one import at once:
An error occurred while running a packageException of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
I've tried using a ForEach loop to simply loop through each of the transformation files and run an import for each transformation file it finds. But, I understand that SSIS doesn't release memory until the end of the ForEach loop, which would explain an out of memory issue. I then broke it out and specified 9 distinct Convert task and 9 distinct Dump and Load tasks in the package with an order of Convert 1 --> Dump and Load 1 --> Convert 2 --> Dump and Load 2, etc. This results in the same out of memory issue any time I enable it to run more than 1 convert/dump & load task in the package - they are not running simultaneously, but rather sequentially. I don't understand this. In looking at the logs, it looks like it's creating the temp files for the first import and adding them into BPC, and then creating the temp files for the second import but then fails prior to the second load. This will work for a smaller data file, but shouldn't the memory be released after the task and allow subsequent tasks to complete? Any recommendations on how to address this and automate this load?Quick update - I created unique ssis packages for the distinct imports and called those packages from within the initial package that is kicked off through Data Manager, and I ran into the same out of memory issue. Any ideas, suggestions, or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Persistent Active Requests causing high CPU usage and load average
Hi, we've deployed a JSP application on standalone OC4J talking to Oracle DB. The whole thing runs on Sun Solaris. On some occasions (still investigating what causes this), the number of active requests rises (as seen from EM console) and never drops down. The weird thing is, the load average numbers are proportional to the number of persistent active request. If there are 3 active requests, load avg will be [3.x 3.x 3.x], and whenever persistent active request exist, CPU usage will shoot up to over 90% (usually between 95% - 100%). When the system is running normally, CPU usage is usually less than 20%. Is it possible to track down this problem and how? Many thanks.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!!
The icons on the right of the menu bar … show a beachball when I put the cursor over themWell, if this was your only problem I would put it down to a corrupt preference or cache file. Nevertheless, it is worth seeing how much this helps.
The file you need to trash is 'systemuiserver.plist'. But there are potentially two of them, plus it is best to delete your caches as well, so ...
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Caches", delete everything
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string.
See if this improves the situation, and post back with any remaining oddities. -
I am getting frequent lock-ups and blue screens during boot up on my Mac Pro. The lock- ups occur sometimes during normal use and I cannot click anything or force quit. The cursor shows something is loading, but never stops. I have to use power button.

Workaround
none
Solution Description
OS AIX5L ML4.0(5.2.0.40)의 bos.up / bos.mp / bos.mp64 fileset level을
갖는 JFS2 file system을 갖는 경우에 해당한다.
AIX 5.3 APAR IY59387은 IY58143에 포함되어 있다.
JFS2 file system에 Heavy I/O activity가 발생하면 database process에

<Note:285158.1>b,
The install was from my original Dell XP Pro-SP1 'Reinstallation' CD along with the complete MS XP-SP2 download that I burned to another CD. I also had all the latest Dell drivers from their website burned to a CD. Install went as follows:
- Format HD
- Install XP Pro SP1
- Install SP2
- Install Dell Drivers
- Obtain any MS patches from their site
- Install Office
- Update Office from the MS website
- Install iTunes
- Tweak MS settings
- Install many software programs
- Make an interim Image of system and store to ExHD
- Install other software programs (mostly security programs)
- Make another 'complete' Image to ExHD
- Restore backup data and music
After additional testing last night, I determined that it is not iTunes at all (or to blame). I get intermittent hangs/freezes/pauses in other media players (WMP, etc.).
Seems that something is causing the 'System' process to periodically jump up in CPU %age (though not more than 30-50%). Even this relatively small amount is enough to pause the playback of music or video, hang the mouse movement for a brief moment, or delay a menu opening. All very subtle - you have to be looking for it to notice (except with real-time audio-video, which is quite noticeable whenever this happens).
I had this problem a year ago, which is why I reimaged then and stayed with SP1 on the advice of Dell and Webroot. I'm stumped as to where to look for the culprit. Every time I go back to the original HD with SP1, everything runs smoothly. Some sort of system call is generating this complete pause....
I'll be limited in my Internet ability for the next several days, so I may be out of touch until Friday. I'll keep testing and playing with the limited equipment I take along....
Any thought you or others want to toss out, I'll attempt when possible.
Thanks! -
I was running Lightroom 3.6 with the OS Windows XP (Sp3). The whole system crashed, I am unable to recover the serial number. I then upgraded my OS to Windows 7 (x64) and down loaded Lightroom 4.4, I wanted to buy a licence so I then upgraded to Lightroom 5, now when I try to register I am asked for the original licence/serial number. Where do I go from here??????
If you upgraded from 3.6 to 5 (you didn't indicate buying 4.4) then you will need the serial number from 3.6 in order to be able to use 5. If you did not keep a record of it there is a chance it might be available thru your Adobe account online, but if not, there is likely not much you can do except to return the upgrade and purchase a full version. Try contacting support using chat and explain your situation to see if they can help.
Serial number and activation chat support (non-CC)
http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/service1.html ( http://adobe.ly/1aYjbSC )
If you did purchase 4.4 then that should be sufficient to use to activate 5.
I can never be sure what goes on with Lightroom, and the Adobe site (even when it works properly) makes finding information about products difficult these days so I am at a loss to confirm anything I say. -
ERROR while analysing 2.13 GB heap dump using HAT and JHAT.
I am trying to analyse a 2.13 GB heap dump taken from java1.4 "IBM hotspot" running in solaris 8, but i get an error, java.io.IOException: Bad record length of -2021068228 at byte 0x00da146e. Is there any way that i can read this dump to analyse the objects.
I have no idea what "IBM HotSpot" is but it sounds like you are running this bug:

Grab the latest build of jdk6u update 10 or jdk7 and use that to examine the dump file. -
One of 4 node RAC always have higher load averages and higher than others
Hello,
We have a 4 node rac, 9208 on linux 4. When viewing top, we noticed the same one node always have a higher load average than the other 3 nodes. Is this normal. Loan balance is working fine but this one node always have higher load average. This is the node where we do the rac installation. Thank you.I do not remember what is the default for clb_goal (client load balancing) for 9i but 10g is LONG.
check it
select clb_goal from dba_services where name = <service name>
you may have to change from LONG to SHORT OR SHORT to LONG depending your connection types.
dbms_service.MODIFY_SERVICE(‘<service>’,clb_goal=> dbms_service.CLB_GOAL_LONG);
