FSB 133 SOLUTION REACHED!

I was able to successfully overclock my AMD Duron 800 to 866. My settings are as follows:
1) Reloaded default BIOS settings
2) Enabled 32-bit transfer modes
3) Disabled System BIOS Cacheable
4) Disabled C000,32k Shadow
5) Configured SDRAM Timing by User
6) Set SDRAM Frequency to HCLK
7) Set SDRAM Bank Interleave to 4-Way
8) Set PCI Latency Timer to 64
9) Enabled PCI IDE Busmaster
10) Set CPU FSB Clock to 133
11) Set CPU Ratio to 6.5
12) Set CPU Vcore to 1.70
13) Set DDR Voltage to 2.6
I have CONFIRMED that DRAM Timing Control is the root cause of intermittant stability issues related to this mainboard. I'm assuming that I should be able to run my AMD Athlon XP 1800+ at full speed from now on.

Well, I didn't want to take off the heatsink just yet, but I may have to any way..  But AMD doesn't make an athlon xp 2100+ with a 200mhz bus or a 333mhz bus.. the 333's start at 2600+ I think.. But I'll start a new thread.. sorry bout that

yep i run the tests with no errors
the only thing i can think is the problems is when i uninstall the nvidia chip set drivers and restart the pc as soon as it goes back to the desktop it starts redetecting and installs the chip set drivers again automatically.
so i dont get chance to install say the 5.11 nvidia chip set drivers , so when i try to install over the ones windows has put on its self thats when the comp restarts and says its recovered from a serious error, wot u rec is this the problem or could this be a faulty mainboard
(windows seems to install any drivers i uninstall to any of my hardware automatically my graphics card any thing.   is there a option to turn this of)

  • 2400XP on FSB 133?

I have installed a 2400 XP processor (266 FSB) on my K7T Turbo2 motherboard but the FSB from the motherboard is max. 133 FSB (removed jumper).
can I get it someway to 266 ?
(Sandra 2003 gives a lot of warnings about this)

    set mulltiplayer above 12.5?
On my Turbo2 board if I set anithing above 12 it results in strange remapings of multip eg.:
    13 becomes 12.5
    14 becomes 5
    etc.
I have t-bred 1800+ XP proc revision JIHUB.

  • FSB 133 for KT4V-L

    System specs:  AMD XP 2100+, antec 450w psu, Corsair CMX51232000 512mb 400mhz Cas2.5, Volcano 7 w/Thermaltake smartfan, KT4V-L mobo bios v1.0
    Idle cpu temp=50 C
    idle System temp=32 C
Ok.. So far I've only been able to run the fsb at the default 100mhz.. The ratio is set to auto.  The chip is recognized as an XP 1500+ at boot up and hasn't given any signs of a problem yet.
Symptoms: At 133mhz the system hangs during windows xp boot up, then locks completely and the cmos has to be cleared.
    I have several hunches.
I know the system/cpu temps seem high but I have some reason to believe the mobo reports are inaccurate.  The air exhausted from the antec psu (which pulls air off the cpu, plus over its own heat production and exhausts out the back) is quite cool.. Another fan that exhausts next to the chip is naturally even cooler than the psu exhaust.  The air is no where near 90 F.  I have another system that has a system temp of 77 F and actually feels warmer.
Plus the smart fan has its own temp gauge to regulate its rpm.  The min rpm of the fan is 2500 and the max is around 5000.  According to the mobo the cpu is running at 50 C at idle, but the smartfan's rpms remain at 2500rpm.. I thought at first that the smartfan was wrong... So I traded it out for another and got the same result. 2500 rpm.  My other computer temps the cpu at 100 F, roughly 20 degrees lower than the one in question, and the smart fan is running at about 3200 rpm.
On the other hand the reported temps might be accurate and maybe the heatsink isn't making good contact and bumping up the FSB to 133 is too much and causes errors?
Any suggestions at this point would be much appreciated..
I realize the heatsink could be better.. But the temps don't rise fast enough to cause a complete lock up so fast..

Try removing your sound card and see if that solves anything. I had the excapt problem with my computer, which is very simular to yours, and it ended up being the Sound Blaster Audigy.
From my experience with the KT4 mothboards, Id say this sounds more like a hardware or Ram problem

  • K7N420Pro - can't set FSB to 133 after it was dropped to 100 for a while

    My configuration is
    MB K7N420 PRO,
    2xDDR PC 2700 256MB Samsung,
    AMD Athlon XP1600+
For a long time the system was working on FSB/Mem/PCI as 133/266/66.
Then for a while I've set it to 100/200/66 due to processor overheat (experienced troubles with cooler).
Yesterday the system didn't start, and the bracket shows that the problem is the "early chipset initialization". I've tried some tricks, one of which was to set FSB jumper to 100MHz position (and this doesn't help).
After I've removed one of the DDRs everything goes on. When I set the DDR back the system still works normally.
But! When I set the FSB jumper back to user mode, which allows the FSB 133 - it doesn't affect, even though I've set the FSB back to 133/266/66 in BIOS setup.
So now there is such a problem:
    - FSB jumper is in "user mode" position
    - BIOS shows FSB/Mem/PCI as 133/266/66
    - processor starts as Athlon 1050 Mhz (and Sandra shows that FSB is 100Mhz)
    What is wrong?

The problem is that there is no reaction whatever I do with the jumpers!
It just stack on the FSB 100.
I've even flashed the BIOS from 2.6 to 2.8 thinking that something wrong is with it - still no effect...
Changing memory modules one after one is useless too...
What is the most strange that two days ago everything was fine...It just don't start one day. Some kind of mystic...
Is there any way that I can supress that so-called "superstability" option ?

  • Freezes when FSB is Set to 133 on AMD XP 2000+

Im positive I have some heating problems with my computer, its running at 56C CPU and 38C System temp.s
But the real issue is with my processor and FSB.  It all works fine when set at 100FSB but it should be at 133FSB.  When set to 133 FSB my compute crashes after so much time.  When i mean crash it either goes to blue screen if im playing games or it freezes if im just surfing the web or such.
My specs are downbelow.  Ask me if you need more information please.  I tried to give as much as possible.

    Hi Cech
So glad to hear that you have made real progress, from just a few minutes to your turning a stable system off at over an hour and a half.
    Now, just find out why.
    Second problem,
On the CPU heat. My AMD is a AXDA 2500 DKV4D (part number stamped on the CPU) the V tells me my max temp is 85deg C.  The K tells me my voltage is 1.65volts.  After increasing the FSB I got a 3 to 7deg heat increase. I reduced the Vcore from 1.65volts to 1.625volts and saw a 4 deg decrease in temp. So at my 53deg temp I am way below the 85deg spec and no longer concerned about it.
On your memory, your CPU and memory run at the same speed FSB 133, so I would lock the memory there instead of using AUTO.  Same with the CPU ratio, I would lock it at (I guess your running at X15) instead of AUTO.
Once you know you are running stable, and have reduced the CPU heat, start pluging electrical back in (with the styem unpluged) and test the power supply, each change check the +12 volt supply. Its rated at 5%, but I would be very, very concerned if I saw a 2% change in voltage from light to heavy use load.

  • WINXP won't boot on FSB 166

I know that this kind of trouble has been here many times, but none of the posted info has been a solution to my problem.
I've just upgraded to XP2500+ Barton. The system is running perfect on 133 FSB, with the RAM at 166 (333), Sandra 2003 Pro results.
    But!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whenever I try to get to 166, bios runs fine, but Winxp won't boot, claiming to either not find a crucial library ( I've received many various errors ).
The farthest I've gotten, is the winxp boot screen, with the blue thingie moving, though the disk beeing dead. That was after setting a permanent AGP voltage and low driving comp.
I have reinstalled the WinXP, that didn't work either. So underclocked to FSB 133 and I'm writing this thread.
Could anyone help, please. There is so many positive comments about the KT3 Ultra 2 and Bartons, so why doesn't mine work.

  • K7N2 boards and higher FSB

Im wanting to know with any K7N2 board what is the highest FSB people can reach?
Im wanting to test my 2100+ but im looking for a bit of info first.  This is the best CPU i have ever used and dont really want to fry this one.  I know 133 (266) to 200 (400) is a big increase already but i feel it can do more  :D

Well I Tested my little ole 2100+ a bit ago 205 FSB (410) is as far as i could get without it messing up other things.  When i set it to 210 FSB it booted and worked just fine but only showed like 1050MHz it was going back to a 5 multi even when it is unlocked and set to 11 or 10.5 and the Vcore went back to stock voltage.
I guess thats not bad for a 133FSB CPU an increase of 72FSB (144MHz) But i guess ill just leave it be at 200 UNLESS somehow i run into a KT6 Delta board  :D
    P.S.
Dont ask me how it happened but when i was testing, turning computer on and off by sure protector i threw the breaker to my room and i was in pitch dark, I got Skeered  8o

BIOS I have tried: The original; Ver:10A, ran fine on Athlon XP 1600 (1400 MP) 3 years.
    •   Then with MSI Live Update 3: Installed v. 1c which couldn’t run FSB 166MHz (MSI:” Fixes system reports incorrect message for AMD 3200+ CPU.
    - Supports Sempron L2 512K 3000+ CPU.)
However, v. 1.c did not work and would not post at all with the newly installed Barton AMD-XP 2800. [frankly this attempt was months ago and I do not remember whether it would post at the slower 100 and 133 FSB speeds, and also to muddle my memory further I was upgrading an A7N8X-D with a Barton XP 3000 and having similar problems on the ASUS,,, which is now running fine at full potential. ; - p
    •   Then I selected and flashed A6712 V 1.7 122602, boots and runs Win.XP-sp2 at FSB 100MHz & 133MHZ.  (MSI:” Supports AMD Barton XP2800+ (FSB333) CPU
-Fixes system sometimes will have IDE CRC error   -Fixes D-bracket2+USB keyboard, cannot use keyboard on DOS mode.)”    which couldn’t run FSB 166MHz.
I checked with the Tech. at the local shop where I purchased the KT4V MoBo. He suggested I try a different BIOS but he didn’t specify which one. He is a personal friend and admits to some bad luck and dead boards due to flashing bios so reluctant to mess with it.
    •   Now running:  A6712vms.1B0 – MSI hid this BIOS V. found here:
    •   http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=362&kind=1
    •    On a different page than the 2 versions mentioned above. http://www.msicomputer.com/support/bios_result.asp
    •    No wonder people are frustrated and confused about different MoBo versions there ID #’s and the BIOS versions them selves as seen on this news board. MSI’s fault, no fault of anyone here trying to help.
    A6712vms.1B0
Runs fine at FSB 100 (shows as XP 1250+) and FSB 133 (shows as XP 2200+) Booting to Win. XP-sp2 on CMOS, default setup other than minor tweaks to accommodate MSI Ti 4200 AGP 8X 125mb graphics card or Gilmond PCI card. But which couldn’t run FSB 166MHz .
No post at FSB 166 mhz (once, it did flash a post screen stating AMD Athlon XP 2800 for about 2 sec. before going blank) Manual power down. Just now I rebooted with FSB 166, and again saw the AMD Athlon XP 2800 at top of the post screen as I hit pause break,,,, then the machine power crashed to Off. Once it even loaded Win.XP-sp2 but crashed to power off with in 2 min.
I must have booted this beast a dozen times or more after Clear CMOS jumper each time it went to blank screen with mach. still running. Start over; set Default settings and work up with FSB 100, 133, each time to read what POST says and see if it will boot to O/S.
Btw: I have looked for clear evidence through the not so specific descriptions MSI uses to separate these board model #s and may be part of my current problem with correct board ID = correct BIOS ID.

    - KT4A Ultra, (MS-6590) NEW!! based on KT400A chipset
       • KT4A Ultra (Standard Version)
       • KT4A Ultra-SR (Serial ATA RAID)
       • KT4A Ultra-FISR (Serial ATA RAID, Gigabit LAN, IEEE 1394)
And a very similar version of this on Official MSI site. Both seem to try and make a difference between modles with on board Lan, and Blue Tooth ready.
Take a look at my original box sticker:
*As seen on face of MoBo: KT4V MS-6712   Ver:10A
*The Original Box bar code label: KT4V-L (601-6712-050)
    K7, KT400. 5.1 chnl. S/W Audio, LAN, D-Bracket 2.
Yup, it says all this on the sticker and the in the manual and verified on the MoBo. So I can only guess at all parts of the puzzle as they gave them to me which lead me to the afore mention BIOS versions I ran, or am running. The sticker points to nearly half of the boards above except for the MS-6712 and the Ver:10a which is what I based my BIOS choices on. If someone knows differently and can lead me to official Nfo with a better answer I’m all ears.
    Just saw this: Latest Official BIOS : KT4 MS-6590 (1.4), KT4V  MS-6712 (1.8 ) , KT4M MS-6596 (1.1)>>Here: [VIA] unofficial FAQ for KT4 series motherboards

So if  (1.8) is the Latest Official BIOS for KT4V MS-6712  then what is this at the Official MSI SITE ?

Please also keep in mind I’m not trying to scuff anyone’s shoes…I just want to get what’s right for my board so that it and the CPU can live up to their full, "as advertised" potential and run with the other 3 big dogs under my desk.
This seems descriptive enough and rather lengthy. Just doing my homework and reporting my findings so I won’t include actual CMOS settings unless requested. I have notes on all settings I currently use to boot with this problem.
    Other Dogs:
ASUS A7N8X-D running Athlon XP 3000 barton core 10 (runs fsb 400..whoknew?), Mem:2.5gb Super Talent
ASUS A7M266-D running Athlon XP 2800 (mp), Mem: 3gb Super Talent
                                                   Athlon XP 2800 (mp)
I don’t want to boar you with the details.
Yes, and the above have been upgraded w/new chips GFX cards and BIOS,,, NP.
Cut to sound track: Down on the BIOS again,,, wasn’t that Creedance Clear Water Revival?
Any suggestions or insights are much appreciated.

Welcome, and thank you for a thorough input! Hope I don't miss something you already said!
Quick version: Try setting processor voltage to 1,5 volt.
    Long version:
Posting at wrong FSB can be put down to two things:
1 The processor isn't what you thought it is, but I think you eliminated that.
2 The system cannot run the processor at the correct speed. Mainly this has to with overheating, and/or that memory and processor cannot cooperate. This must be it, as you noticed the processor is correctly recognised.
You have little connected right? Then the best thing would be to pull power cable out. Take the motherboard and redo the seating of the processor, this is much better done with motherboard taken out.
At the same time, I suggest you clear CMOS. Should always be done when changing processor, and I've noticed on the Internet there are a few 1,5V XP2800 around.

  • Amd chip cpu fsb etc...

HI new here but have watched the board of for stuff on kt333 aru my prblem is this what is the cpu clock frq best set at for a 1900 XP this is my first time doing this so please help someone thanks in advance oh also i am buying 256 stick of ram at a time hope to go for 3 will this be enough as I have heard more is better wha tdo u guys think ?

    Amd XP1900+ = FSB 133
Memory.... I personally would not bother with more than 2 256mb of ram sticks, as 512 mb is more than adequate. However you could consider getting a 512MB ram stick (Avalible) instead of two more 256's as you then have one slot remaining.
However i think that 512mb is more than enough.
    Hope this helps.

  • KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) & FSB & CD-ROM\'s

    Hi All,
I have a big problem here with this motherboard and want to know if MSI know about the problem and if there is a fix for it.
Never in 5 years have I seen a problem like this !!
The problems listed below are subject to the following settings in the BIOS
    CPU = 1800XP
    FSB = 133
    Other settings on AUTO
Hardware installed (2 setup options tried)
    Setup 1
    Memory = DDR266 (PC2100)
    ATI AIW 7500
    SB Live 5.1
    linksys 10/100 network card
    PCI Firewire card
    Adaptec AHA-2940 SCSI Card
    18GIG SCSI drive
    Sony DRU500a (master / 2nd IDE port)
    Ricoh MP5120A (slave / 2nd IDE port)
    Setup2
    Memory = DDR266 (PC2100)
    ATI AIW 7500
    SB Live 5.1
    linksys 10/100 network card
    PCI Firewire card
    Seagate 40gig ATA 100 (master / 1st IDE port)
    Sony DRU500a (master / 2nd IDE port)
    Ricoh MP5120A (slave / 2nd IDE port)
    Problems
1/ PC locks up or reboots when reading from CD-RW / DVD Recorder using DMA mode under Win 98 / Win2K / Win XP.
2/ Copy files from another PC (over network) files become corrupt.
3/ Write data to CD-R or DVD- / + R ---- DATA BECOMES CORRUPT or PC locks up / reboots while writing the data to the CD / DVD disc.
4/ Windows (any version) on boot errors appear at times.
If I set the FSB to 100 or 120 with all other settings on auto the problems listed above go away !  This is not right !  I want to use my 1800XP CPU with FSB on 133, not lower !
I have even taken out all the hardware and just left the VGA card in place along with HDs / CD-ROM / DVD Recorders get the same problem when running system with FSB @ 133, set it to 120 or 100 and all works fine !!
So, does MSI know about this ?
Will MSI fix this problem soon (like yesterday) ?
Not so happy I can tell ya !  If a fix is not made soon, I will be going back to shop with this board and asking for a different MAKE and model !

My guess is twofold, to be tried in this order:
    (1) PSU--14 amps on 3.3 rail seems low, especially for a machine pretty well filled like yours.  Running the ram at higher frequencies increases draw on the PSU.
    (2) RAM--your symptoms are entirely congruent with bad ram--(ie, ram that although rated to run at a certain speed, actually will not.  Generic DDR ram is a big offender in this case.) Running the ram successfully at only
If you've had this ram running at 133Mhz elsewhere, then the number one recommendation is to replace your PSU with something that provides more amperage per voltage rail. My Antec TruePower 430Watter provides 28 Amps on the 3.3v rail and 36 amps on the 5v rail, and separates the rails so that none will ever cannibalize from the other (so you don't need to add two rails together anymore in evaluating PSU's--you only need to do that on older PSU's in which the rails are not powered individually and separated.)
Important: buy a name-brand PSU--Not a generic.  If you are still having problems then most likely it is your ram--but I have a hunch the PSU may fix you up.

  • KT3 Ultra2 -BR - FSB@133Mhz Problem

Something I tried to find in this Forum, but no answers helped me.
    Ok here is the Problem:
    FSB 100 MHz works fine.
FSB 133 MHz gives me a blue screen after loading into the Desktop with the message:
    VFAT(01)+0002AF2 Error =D:0028:C00425E6
after hitting a button the blue screen:
    0D:0806:015F2737
    after that...silence....system hangs
    My System:
    Mainboard : MSI 6380E-Raid-Bluetooth
CPU: AMD XP2000+ @41-49 Celsius (Boxed) (CPU-Cooler is set up the way you described)
GFx: ATI Radeon 8500 64MB DDR
Memory Setting: HOST CLK (because of 266MHz ram)
    Operating System: Windows ME
PSU: Enermax EG465P with: 465 Watts reading:
         3,3 V - 38A - Peak 43 A
         5    V - 44A
         12  V - 20A
         -5   V -   2A
         -12 V -   1A
         +5VSB - 2,2A
    Memory Chips: DDRAM 256MB Infineon 266MHz CL2
Tried with resetting the CMOS and setting to 133 MHz, and setting the DRAM Timings to HCLK, disabled RAID.
The second trange thing is that the AVANCE 97 Sound is not installing properly, so that no sound comes out.
    Please help.....i'm going insane. ;(

Make sure your heatsink and fan are completely covering the processor...
Whats your CPU temp?  If it gets too high it will get all flakey when bumped up to 133.
Try using one stick of ram at a time, with different sticks.
I had this problem before, just make sure your CPU isn't too hot and the hsf is completely covering it.
For the sound, im not sure.  Install the avance 97 drivers over again off of the msi cd.
