Full database backup and restore
I have a doubt on the syntax for a full database backup and restore. For a single schema, the syntax for backup & restore is :-
exp JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501/JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 owner=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 STATISTICS=none
log=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501_exp.log grants=y constraints=Y rows=y compress=N
file=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501
imp <userid/password> file=<export dump file location> fromuser=<export user name> touser=<import user name>
grants=y constraints=Y rows=y log=<import log file location>
I hope, my question is clear.
Please, help in solving the doubt.
regardshi,
thanks, for your answer. I took a export of one schema of the database. But, when I tried to import the schema to the destination database, it showed
imported with errors with the existence of functions showing. The commands used by me for export and import are as follows:-
exp JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501/JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 owner=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 STATISTICS=none log=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501_exp.log grants=y constraints=Y rows=y compress=N file=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501
imp JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501/JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 file=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 fromuser=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 touser=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501 grants=y constraints=Y rows=y log=JISPREPCORBILLINGPRD501_imp.log
Do, we need to drop the existing schema before importing or somethinig else. Please, help.

Full database import and export
Hi,
i performed full database export and want to perform full import please suggest me how to perform full import..Oracle will change the data to the db characterset on import. This can be good or bad depending on what you have and what you want. So, what do you have and what do you want? Don't forget to check logs you should be keeping with these utilities. Edit: original exp/imp states the characterset in a log, expdp I guess you need to look at the 3rd line in the dump file. Don't edit dump files, if you are on unix you can use the strings command. It would help if you told us the exact version, patch set and platform you are on.
Also, see the [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10729/toc.htm]Globalization Guide.

[HELP] Problem with restore and recovery to new host
Hi, guys!
I have been trying for two days, but still cannot get it to work.
I have taken a full hot(online) backup with archive logs as well as the control file and SPFILE, and then copied the backup to the new host with the same directory structure and settings. Finally, I have tried to restore & recover the database on the new host but failed during the restore process.
Both the original host and the new host have the same Oracle installed down to the patch level. I couldn't figure out the proper solution to this problem base on my limited knowledge about Oracle DB.
Could anyone help me out here? Any advice would be appreciated!

Yep, I have doubled check the directory structure that get in the way, and they are all exist.
Would it be something to do with the folder permissions?

b) Apparently a RESETLOGS has been issued on 07-Nov. Which controflile backup do you have restored and mounted on the new server ? It should be the one after the RESETLOGS.

I restored the one included with the backup. Should I take another backup of controlfile seperately and restore from it instead?

Yep, that's exactly what I did.

Read the system copy guides - they are step-by-step:
System Copy and Migration
or you can use the method described in

on page 88 of the "Backup and Recovery User's Guide 12c Release 1 (12.1) E17630-13", the example 5-1 SHOW ALL Command is the same of the "Backup and Recovery User's Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2) E10642-06" on page 82 and that output is related to a Oracle Database 11g version (the 10g doesn't print the first line "RMAN configuration parameters for database with db_unique_name PROD1 are:").

Restore and Recovery problem-XP reinstall
I have a N100 laptop that I am trying to reinstall XP operating system. I have the recovery discs. Started the process in the Rescue and Recovery menu. Part way into the process after putting in the first disc the process will go no further. Just to review how I got thru the menu. I chose option Restore my entire hard drive. then selected backup from CD/DVD. then I get a message: to restore from CD/DVD either insert final C disc or insert final discs of recovery discs. nothing happens when inserting the disc. also-when I restart the computer it always goes to the Rescue and Recovery menu. I can't get a normal Windows startup. Any suggestions of how to get at least to a normal Windows startup and avoid getting to the R and R menu or how to re-format the drive?
Hi dawcary,
I dug out my old x32 that has the recovery discs. The version of Recovery is the same as yours.
Booting from the R&R disc it eventually comes to the window with the two options that you describe, plus a third option to restore factory settings. Choosing to restore to factory settings wipes the drive and installs the predesktop. If you reboot at that point, it will go into the predesktop and that window will then only show the two choices that you listed above.
I don't know why yours doesn't show that third option.
At this point, it sounds like the predesktop is installed on your hard drive and nothing else. Rebooting might be bypassing the cd drive and booting into the predesktop. You probably already did this, but it's the only thing I can think of. Put your R&R disc in the cd drive and start the machine. Press F12 at startup and in the list of bootable devices that comes up, choose cd drive. That "should" give you the third option to restore to factory.

Hello.
Guys I`m pretty new to Oracle and I been trying to restore our backup from Live Database to Our Test Database.
This is what i did.
After installing the Oracle 11g (11.2.0) on our Rhel6 environment, I try to create the folder structure to Test Server same as on Live Server.
After that I "startup nomount pfile='directory'" then created the spfile.
Then I copy the backupset and control file from Live Server to Test Server and restore the control file.
I alter Database to mount mode then go to rman to restore Database.
It all goes well but when I try to recover Database I receive an error.
This is the Error = RMAN-06054: media recovery requesting unknown archived log for thread 1 with sequence 8929 and starting SCN of 811164225283.
I try to ignore this error and proceed to opening the database;
Alter Database Open resetlogs.
But then again I receive this error.
ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced
ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure
ORA-39700: database must be opened with UPGRADE option
Process ID: 8020
Session ID: 3 Serial number: 4461
Can some one please help me on how to do this?
I`m really new to oracle and I dont know what to do.user9176069 wrote:
Sir,
Thanks for your assistant.
I have successfully restore the Database.
Now my problem is after recovery I cannot access the EM.
Here is the error shown.
"503 Service Unavailable
Servlet error: An exception occurred. The current application deployment descriptors do not allow for including it in this response. Please consult the application log for details."
Is this the cause of my recovery?
Should I turn off EM first before I recover?Just to expand on what Hemant said, the dbcontrol has two parts. One is the repository, which is a bunch of tables in the database. The other is the configuration, which is a bunch of files buried under ORACLE_HOME. The two have to be in sync in ways I don't fully understand, but when you replicate a database from one host to another, especially if any kind of database rename is involved, you are getting the repository from the source system and laying it down with the configuration on the target system. Bottom line, exactly as Hemant said, drop and recreate at least the repository. I do both the repository and the config. -
RMAN full database restoration
Hi All,
I'm doing a test of rman backup. I took full backup of my database (controle file, datafiles and archivelog file). I dropped my database from dbca GUI.
Can i restore my full backup from RMAN in this case. I mean i want to restore my full backup, wht should i do. Should i create new database in the same name of my old database and recover from rman like in export utility or not. What is the issue. Note that i didn't backed up redolofile, password file and parameter file and they are already removed when i dropped the database from DBCA.
If any one have an idea in this case. Note that i took also export full backup if no issue from RMAN i'll restore it from export backup.
Thanks for your help
regards
raitsarevoAnd tell us OS and database version (RMAN 8i is not the same as RMAN 9i,10g,11g,...).
Dropping the database through DBCA is not the same as losing it through media failure, that means RMAN can't do the whole work. It does not recreate oratab entries (Unix/Linux) or services (Windows). Delete through DBCA will also remove entries from the sqlnet configuration files, RMAN is not aware of this.

RMAN Full Database restore cross platforms
All
I have a database 10.2.0.3 running on Solaris 10 OS.
I have performed a full back up (level 0) of this database using rman utility with auto back up on. I am trying to worl on a scenario where I could restore this backup on another linux machine. so I copied over all the backup pieces into the target linux server. from a local RDBMS installation (10.2.0.3) on the linux machine I am trying to restore the database... but not successful yet..
when I issue restore spfile or restore control file from +<backup file name>+; the prompt continues to search in some location is responding back saying no back up piece found.. below is the sequece of step I am trying ..
1 set up env on the linux server
2 rman target /
(instance not started but rman allows connection)
3 set DBID=+<DB ID of the source database running on Solaris>+
it executes set dbid=
4 startup nomount
as the pfile/spfile is not available under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs on linux machine it picks up default pfile however but the instance stars no mount..
5 restore spfile from '/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/rman_bkp/c-300009955'
here it is not able to restore any thing.same is the case with control file.
Any ideas please advice

Thanks for the referance. I now understand that I may not be able to use transportable database command to transport the entire db. However there is a line in the +"Restrictions on Cross-Platform Transportable Database"+ which says +"The principal restriction on cross-platform transportable database is that the source and destination platform must share the same endian format. For example, while you can transport a database from Microsoft Windows to Linux for x86 (both little-endian), or from HP-UX to AIX (both big-endian), you cannot transport a whole database from HP_UX to Linux for x86 using this feature. You can, however, create a new database on a destination platform manually, and transport needed tablespaces from the source database using cross-platform transportable tablespace as described in "Cross-Platform Tranportable Tablespace: CONVERT DATAFILE or TABLESPACE"."+
I understand if we are ready to transport every tablespace from Source to Target individually, may then be able to replicate a transportable database. Does the transportable tablespace do not have any restrictions like the transport database has got in respect to Platforms and Endian? Please clarify.
Also is there a support matrix for thr transportable database and tablespaces which we could refer to ?
Regards!
SaratSarat,
The same restriction that is there for the transport of the whole database lies completely true for the transportable tablespace as well if you are going for the cross platform. Endian must match across the platforms than only you can do this otherwise, as like the database feature, you need to convert the source file to the target endian.
If you look at the reference doc for the Trasnport Tablespace command,
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14194/rcmsynta063.htm#RCMRF1919
This restriction is documented there besides other restrictions
>
Restrictions and Usage Notes
The limitations on creating transportable tablespace sets described in Oracle Database Administrator's Guide apply to transporting tablespaces from backup, with the exception of the requirement to make the tablespaces read-only.
TRANSPORT TABLESPACE does not perform endian format conversion. If the target platform has a different endian format, then you must use the RMAN CONVERT command to perform the separate step of converting the endian format of the datafiles in the transportable set.

Database option and Recovery order
Hi All, How to know the below options on Sybase. A. Database option: Are the database options for Sybase ASE database currently set: 1. ddl in tran 2. allow nulls by default 3. allow wide dol rows 4. enforce dump tran sequence 5. full logging for all B. Database recovery order: Is the recovery order of the following databases as follows: 1. saptools 1 strict 2. 'production database' 2 strict 3. saptempdb 3 strict Please let mw know. Regards, karthik
Also you can specify the order of recovery:
You can use sp_dbrecovery_order to configure more important databases to be recovered earlier. You must be in the master database and have system administrator privileges to usesp_dbrecovery_order to enter or modify a user-defined recovery order. Any user, in any database, can use sp_dbrecovery_order to the user-defined recovery order of databases. SeeReference Manual: Procedures.
sp_dbrecovery_order has an additional parameter indicating the online ordering.
sp_dbrecovery_order [database_name [, rec_order [, force [ relax | strict ]]]]
relax – the databases are made as they recover (default).
strict – the databases are specified by the recovery order.
The default is relax, which means that databases are brought online immediately when recovery has completed.
