Function to change DataType member names

I was wondering if (TestStand 4.2) contains the ability to call all referrences to a Data Type member used in a sequence to be changed to the new name if that DataType member is renamed in the MyTypes.ini file?

The short answer is no, and it's a difficult problem if you are talking about including source files of code modules written in various different programming languages, and still a semi-difficult problem if you are not because of the possibility of lookupstrings appearing in unsual places or being used in unusual ways.
There are however 2 features that exist in TestStand 4.2 that should help with this.
1) Find/Replace in files - If the previous name is fairly unique this should be easy, if it's not then perhaps with clever usage of regular expressions in the search string it should still be doable.
2) Analyzer - this should help you find places that need fixing or that you might have missed doing 1) above.

change of alias name doesnot harm your datayes going from Lower Case to Upper Case create similar change to outline

Cannot change from member name to alias description in Smartview

I am connected to an Essbase datasource using version 11.1.1.3 of Smartview and Excel 2007. I click on the Hyperion tab, the Options button on the ribbon, go to then the Display tab and all of the Member Name Display options window is greyed out. Member name only is selected by default but I cannot change it (because all options are greyed out). I haven't seen this before.
Note that I am NOT trying to display Member Name AND Alias, I am just trying to change my select from member name TO Alias and cannot (I only have one alias table: Default). I have added the Essbase datasource to my favorites as suggested on another post where numerous users are having the same issue and doesn't make any difference. There is another post regarding this issue that is listed as having a solution but that solution is not the solution to the problem described by everyone in that message thread.

Member Name Display Options will only be enabled if you connect to a database that has an outline containing duplicate members.
If your Essbase system permits the use of duplicate member names, you can choose whether to display member names with or without their descriptions or aliases.
To check if your Outline does allow duplicate members, follow these steps:
1. Open the outline in edit mode.
2. Go to the Properties tab.
3. Go to the"Duplicate member names allowed" node you will see a value of either true or false.
To see the descriptions in SmartView if you are using duplicate members, follow these steps:
1. Open Connection Manager.
2. Connect to your application.
3. Right click on the link of your application.
4. Choose "Change Alias table".
5. Choose the table e.g. "Default".
6. Click OK.

Changing a Member Name Value from Negative to Positive in EAS

I am working on a dimension where there are expense values stored as negative values so, the net income calculations are not calcing accurately. How can I change the sign of the value without having to reload the values? Is there a setting in member properties? Please help. Thanks.

Not sure if just changing the sign would really resolve you issue. If expenses are negative, the you should aggregate these using a (+) aggregation which in turn reduce expenses from revenue.
If you were really keen on changing the sign, you could write a calc and fix on your expense accounts. Now assuming you have a dimension like scenario where you can fix on one pivotal member, you could do:
Budget = Budget * -1;
However, I would not suggest to go the calc route because you would get into same situation again upon data load. I would really look at my aggregation properties to make sure values are rolled up correctly

How do I change MobileMe/iWeb member name?

We registered the iWeb account on my computer in my husband's name because we thought we would use it for family purposes only. Recently, I have realized that I could better use this account for my work. Is there a way for me to change my MobileMe/iWeb member name? I can change account details through System Preferences/.mac, but I am not finding a way to change the member name. I want to change it so the URL will be web.mac.com/myname instead of web.mac.com/hisname. Can I do this?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Technically speaking, using the MobileMe for commercial sites is against the TOU although we've not heard of any sites getting bumped for it. But commercial servers will be faster and more stable since they don't have to facilitate all of the bells and whistles of the MobileMe accounts.
You can purchase a domain name from one of the providers (GoDaddy.com is one many recommend for names and hosting) and have domain name forwarding activated from your actual site URL (http://web.ME.com/MobileMeAccount_name/your_work_sitename/index.html) to the domain name, www.yourspecialname.com.

I have in the outline:Dept dimension with a member Marketing and Account Dimension member name Mkt. When I changed the member name in Dept dimension to Total Marketing and Account Dimenstion to Marketing I lost all the data.Any suggestions to update the outline?Thanks,Jenny

It's been my observation that Essbase thinks you deleted one member and created another. Data (especially level zero data) is generally tied to member names, not outline position.If you are renaming an upper level member, it may or may not disappear. You can recreate your data by forcing a calc.If you are renaming a level zero member, you have to do it in two steps. First create the new member and save the outline. Second, run a calc that only sets NewMember = OldMember. Third, delete the old member.Good Luck,Tim

Change member names in batch without the need to reload data

Hi,I have several cubes on which the member names of one of the dimensions need to be changed. There are over 6000 members for that dimension. I used a rules file to change the member names and the previous data has to be reloaded (previous 13 months' data!). I'm not sure if this would solve your problem, but if it doesn't cause a problem to leave the existing names in place, you could just build a new alias table. By assinging new aliases, you would not have to reload all your data.Regards,

Changing member names

A load rule will only add new members or add new members removing members it does not recognize (Using remove unspecified), but will not do a rename. You could do it using the API. One word or warning if you have two members A and B and change B to C and A to B what will happen is the data from A will disappear, A will now contain B's data and C will not have any data. You would have to do this in two stepsChange B to C then Save the database then change A to B and save the database. Renaming Member Names

I have member names that I need to change in Planning 9.2. I know I can change the member names one by one in Planning, but that would take a long time. I have 350 members that I need to be changed from N1 - N350 to B1 - B350. Does anybody know a way to change the the member names automatically? I haven't found anything in HAL yet. Regards.

I generally suggest the member names be static codes and the alias be the only thing which changes -- this does affect your code readability however allows you to use HAL and other methods to rename the alias.
Other folks may have the answer to how to rename using HAL however our method didn't require that.

Change image property changes member name

Hello. I know that surely this is answered already. But can
you tell me why if I change the image or picture property of a cast
member it also changes the member's name? The thing is that I take
the images from a valentina database and I put the on a list. Then
I assign the image to a "joker" cast member. But as soon as I
cahnge the cast member image it also changes the name of it and I
can't refer to it anymore

I get sdome images to a lingo list with getImage valentina
function. then I do
member("joker").image = imagelist[1]
and the name of the member changes to the filename of the
image in imagelist[1].
If I do the same with picture property there is no problem
and the image pereserves its name. So I guess I will use the
picture property ans getPicture function
johnAq's approach also works. I also agree that there is a
mistake to my code(lingo specific) , maybe references or something
but I don't know what is exactly.

Good idea, Sunil, and I've done this in the past. You don't even necessarily need to do that 'dummy parent' stuff if you have a source file from which you can build the entire dimension again with the 'remove unspecified' option.
I've also used Glenn's approach.
What you really must think about in either situation is whether any of the new names match existing member names. That definitely complicates things.
Honestly, if you don't already have the code written, for a strictly one-off 100 member change it would probably be faster to suck it up and work through them in EAS. But where's the fun in that, right?

Dimension Build - Change Member Names

Does anybody know if there is a way to revise outline member names through a load rule without affecting (losing) the data associated with those members? I have a .txt file with the current parent names, child names, aliases, properties, formulas, attributes and UDAs for the Products dimension. I would like to revise all of the level 0 member names without having to do so manually in the outline. Any help would be appreciated.

You can do this a couple of different ways.You can go into the outline itself through app manager, and witht he FILE drop down, update the outline at that point using your load rule.You could also automate this function with an esscomand script preforming and incremental dimension build (INCBUILDDIM).Randy Rehmer, Cincinnati Bell

Cannot change member name

I am using smartview 11.1.1.3 on office 2007. Every time when I change a member by typing it over, after refresh, it goes back to the original member name. I have to use member selection button to change to a new member. I also can not change data and submit the change in smartview. I am an admin for all the apps.
I have another machine with smartview 11.1.1.3 on office 2003. I can do all the above on that machine.So no security issue. Any idea?

Is it possible that you copied and pasted the member Name or Alias? SmartView may not be able to recognize a hidden character in the member name or alias.

** Invaild Member Names when using @XREF **

To the Oracle Nation,
I am using the @XREF function to obtain data from one database to copy to another. an Example of my calc string is as follows:
Fix(Jan:Dec,Product,NY,Other) - where NY = Next Year Budget
"Sales" = @XREF(GetData,"Sales Wages",Soda,Entity,"NY working member",West);
When I run the calculation, the status shows that it has ran to success; however, no data is displayed when data is pulled from the target database. To throw a little twist into the mix, when I change "NY" to "NX" in my target database, it works just fine.
That being said, is NY, or any other name string, a restricted member name due to conflicts within Essbase. As side not, It also does not work with NNY or NNNY. We are at a lose on this one, and want to put this issue to rest.

To jump on Stuart's comment, I have had exactly this problem with XREF's.
In the bad old days (Planning 3.5.1, Essbase 6.5.x), I would actually force the creation of blocks in the target by assigning zeros and then clearing the values out to ensure that the calculation went through. Very painful and slow.
If block creation is in fact your issue, you should be able to use the SET CREATEONMISSINGBLK setting to create your blocks: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_esb_techref/calc/set_createnonmissingblk.htm
You might want to be careful, however, with how you use that setting and target very carefully what/where you are creating blocks as you might otherwise get way, way more blocks than you want.
I have not followed my own advice, wondered why my db was so big/slow, and then used SET MSG DETAIL to see all of the blocks roll in. Whoops. At least my numbers calculated. :)

Member Alias versus Member names

Hi I have a form in 9.2 for which in the Page Section, I have 4 dimensions selected. The properties for the 4 dimensions is set to display alias names. One of the dimensions does not have an alias name and it displays the member name instead.
After migrating the form to 9.3.1, I have not changed the member properties for the forms and this time the dimension-wihout-the-alias-name displays 'Null' since there isnt an alias name for the member.
Is this a feature change in 9.3.1? or is it a setting I have forgotten to modify?

Hi,
9.3.1 does have the same functionality. If there is no alias available you should be seeing member names on forms.
There might have been something wrong during migration. Though, even if so, it is still strange you seeing "null" on forms.
Have you tried changing the property to show names, save and re-set back to alias and save again?
Also, you better make sure that you've applied the latest patches for all 9.3.1 modules.
