Future direction

When is the Oracle SCM Statement of Direction going to be posted?
There is a reference to it in the Oracle Designer and Oracle SCM (Repository) FAQ - April 2004.

The Tools Statement of Direction, along with a specific SCM Statement of Direction are now both available on the Designer site. (http://otn.oracle.com/products/designer/index.html) There is also a Designer Maintenance Release document with an associated FAQ, which references both Desigenr and SCM, on that page.

  • Questions about the future directions of InfoPath and Microsoft Access

Because I have been confused about the future directions of InfoPath and Access, I wrote a short blog post, which I have pasted below.  My question is, can Microsoft provide some more guidance on Access vs InfoPath?  If Access is indeed the
the future direction, can you please provide some pointers to resources that can help us transition.
A Short Review of MS Access,  SharePoint ,InfoPath (2013)
After the November 2012 SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas (#spc12) there were a number of blog posts and people saying that Access 2013 was great and would be replacing InfoPath.
    Marc Anderson and
    Ruven
Gotz have short posts summarizing #SPC12 and touch on the subject of InfoPath and Access.  I also spoke with several individuals shortly after #SPC12 and they were excited about Access 2013.
Since I rely heavily on InfoPath for much of what I do, I wanted to kick the tires and see what everyone was talking about.  First, a few notes about SharePoint 2013 and Office 2013.
Microsoft should rename Access:  If you have tried to
bing the word Access, then you know that the search results are overwhelming,  because the word "access" is used for so many other purposes.
Use the RTM version of Office 2013! I was performing  my investigations by leveraging the Office 365 Beta and the Office Applications that come with it.  Not much was working!  After I uninstalled the Beta
version of Office 2013 and Installed the RTM version everything seemed to work.
Windows 7 and IE 9.0: The drag & drop that is being touted as
"manna from heaven" seems to work well with Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and IE 10, but it does
    not work with IE 9!
Non Microsoft browsers are still second class citizens (except for the drag & drop):  Microsoft has finally done away with the Active X's for datasheet view (that is brilliant!)  One can now see the newly
minted datasheet view in many browsers.  But I still find that one needs to be in IE to do a number of key manual opeartions.  For example pasting numerous rows of data from a spreadsheet into the new sheet view works only in IE.
    Access 2013
Microsoft Access is touted as a non developer tool.  I know a number of people who are on the business side and love Access.  These people will like the renewed energy that Microsoft has applied to Access.   One should note that conceptually
this functionality existed  in SharePoint 2010.  Here is what I see that is new:
+The new version works better:Although I haven't tested it fully, it seems that many more features that work on the Desktop version of Access, now work in the published Web Application which is hosted by SharePoint 2013.
+The new version has fairly robust browser based forms: End users can now fill in data using forms that are rendered in the browser.
+The published version that resides in SharePoint now uses its own SQL server tables.  So the engine appears to be SQL Server, not a modified version of Access built for a server.  This stands to be quite robust, but I imagine
that some quirks will surface due to new model.
    The limitations are:
    - Access is pretty much its own application and does not integrate with SharePoint building blocks.  For example, an Access table is not easy to integrate with a SharePoint workflow.  Further, although  Access forms now are visible
in a browser, they are not nearly as rich as InfoPath forms.  InfoPath forms cannot easily integrate with the Access tables.  In order to integrate SharePoint features and Access, one needs to tie SharePoint list(s) to Access as data sources.
This overcomplicates the model and one may very well run into synchronization issues.
In short, although I believe there will be some people who will be happy with newly minted Access, I do not think that Access will be able to replace InfoPath and Workflow technologies.  I do agree that Microsoft does not seem to have put much energy into
InfoPath.  If they leave a vacuum in this space, then others may very well take over, for instance Nintex Forms.

Although I agree with the comments made by Ruven and Marc after the conference please note that those blog posts are their own personal opinions and that they don't work for Microsoft.  A lot of people have asked Microsoft to clarify the future of InfoPath
and the response up until now has been a deafening silence.  In my opinion speculations about Access replacing InfoPath are premature.
I should also point out that most of your comments about Access 2013 above are actually about Access Services in SharePoint Server 2013.  Access Services are NOT Access they are a shared service offering in SharePoint that convert and publish Access
databases and forms.  As you point out once an Access database is published through Access services it is converted to SQL Server and no longer resides in Access.  Of course I don't work for Microsoft either so these are all just my personal opinion.
Having said that I doubt you will get the confirmation/response that you are hoping for from any official Microsoft channel.

  • Future direction of BEA Web Services? - binary / attachments

    Hello,
I'm looking at needing to transfer binary data through a web service,
but can't handle the 4/3+ size increase that occurs when embedding the
    data with base64 encoding.
I know that WL 8.1sp3 support SwA, but that standard is being deprecated
in favor of newer technologies like Fast Web Services (based on ASN.1
encoding rules), MTOM/XOP, Basic Attachments Profile.
We'd prefer to be able to rely on the support of the application server.
What is BEA's future direction in terms of this technology? Will they be
supporting one or all of these binary standards? When is the estimated
date for this technology to be implemented?
If these technologies won't be implemented for a while, is it possible
to plug in 3rd party web services solutions into BEA WL8.1 (e.g. Sun's
JWSDP, Axis, etc)? I believe it is, but am just asking for the sake of a
    full answer.
    Thanks

    Steve,
Due to BEA's award winning support they offer, I had to figure this out on my own. After weeks of dealing with a support case they provided me with absolutely nothing. Just as they have done in this thread. I will share what I have done for the mean time to get around their limitations using attachments.
I used the Axis libraries to create a DIME attachment and call a BEA web service. Since BEA doesn't support Dime, a servlet filter had to be implemented and parse the DIME message prior to the web service received it. I'm sending 2GB files with transfer rates of 6MB/S.
This is a response from BEA's award winning support:
"We do not have good specification standard as yet as to how to best solve the issue. It appears like a pretty larger issue to solve because of the lack os standards and specification. Engineering is still researching on the issue and we don't know which version will have the fix."

  • Future direction of Reports product wrt Oracle Applications

    Hi,
Has Oracle come out with a document that shows the future direction of the Oracle Deveoper Reports product with respect to Oracle Applications?
I believe that Forms may not be required in the future as ADF will be the basis for Fusion. Currently, Oracle has used OAF in R12 to replace quite a bit of Forms developed in 11i and prior releases. My main question pertains to the Reports direction.
If Oracle is to develop a new report that would output to Excel, will it do so by registering the program as "Java Concurrent Program" with a template and data definition, as opposed to a report developed using Reports Developer (an RDF) and then have a template attached to it (the data definition elements will come from the RDF)?
I see Reports Developer still being used in R12. Is Reports Developer not going to be used with Fusion? And every report will be a "Java Concurrent Program" in Fusion?
If Reports Developer is indeed going to not have a future, question is if "Java Concurrent Program" development can have the similar programming logic capabilities like triggers (before report, after param, triggers for each field, grouping, summary) and skipping printing etc.?
    Thanks
    skn

My question was not really on ADF vs OAF, but the use of Reports tool in Fusion.
I did that search and got a couple of threads on that - It looks like Reports is not part of the Fusion stack -
Re: Best way to develop a BI Publisher Report
Re: OAF screens in R12 for People and Assignment Screens ..
It would have been great if Oracle provided a document (MOS note) that clearly stated the technology stack to be used in Fusion. And clearly state that Reports (and Forms) will not be part of the Fusion stack. If there is such a document, please provide the note ID.
    Thanks.

  • Future direction of User Provisioning Tools ( GRC CUP or IDM)

    Hi Security Colleagues,
We all know that SAP has GRC CUP(Access Enforcer) and NW IDM for provisioing.
We can use either of toll for user provisioning.
Based on your experience , what is the best tool ? ofcourse ,It changes from one company to other depends on requirements.
I am noticed that  lot of SAP devlopment activity going on around IDM.
Based on SAP's future direction, what is the best tool ?
Its a common problem for most of SAP customers as SAP is giving IDM freely as part of NW license.
    please share your thoughts..
    Thank You.

For Futuristic product availabliliy, I always prefer the following two places to check. Can you please also check their?
    http://service.sap.com/pam
    http://service.sap.com/scl
Check the following Two points under the 2nd Link:
    Scenario & Process Component
    SAP's Release Strategy
Now based on your query I will also stick to the suggestions given in the Other two posts. To add few more points which you may get helpful I would like to emphasize on the below discussion:
u2022 SAP NetWeaver Identity Management helps companies to centrally manage their user accounts (identities) in a complex system landscape. This includes both SAP and non-SAP systems.
u2022 The solution provides an authoritative, single source of user information and enables self-service management of user information and authorizations using workflow technology.
u2022 In many cases resources such as meeting rooms, PCs and mobile devices, which all may have their own identity in some context, can be included in an identity management solution.
Out of all other points, lets discuss about Provisioning:
u2022 The term provisioning is often used to denote user provisioning or account provisioning.
    u2022 The functionality includes:
    o creation of accounts
    o setting initial passwords
o setting and modifying access rights
    o disabling (revoking) an account
    o deleting an account
u2022 The overall purpose is to make sure an identity (for example a user) has the correct access to the applications.
u2022 User provisioning products also include workflow capabilities to apply business rules to the account provisioning process and typically provide user self-service capabilities (e.g., password reset)
(All these details I picked up and pasted here from different section of a Solutioning Material I prepared for my company to introduce IDM solutions to my customer... couldn't give here properly due to space constraints). You can understand the Importance SAP is imposing on this product for All aspects of Automating Security and Identity of Living and Non-Living staffs as well. By using this you can get more benefits besides of Provisioning which is available in separate Solutions under other products like Virsa etc. Please go through the relevant materials available in the IDM Forum (Bernhard provided u the link) to understand go for an realization assessment.

  • FUture direction for Primavera !

    Hello,
Is anyone aware of Future direction of Primavera and its integration with Oracle Projects.
Is Oracle coming up with some Out of Box intgration for Primavera and Oracle?
    Any pointers will really help.
    regards

    Hi Prasanna,
Below is the information that i got from metalink doc: 471982.1
Oracle has teamed up with Impress Software to offer a robust new integration to Microsoft Project Server and Primavera for project scheduling.
Built on Fusion Middleware, the Impress for Enterprise Project Management (EPM) solution delivers seamless, two-way integration with these project scheduling tools for both PeopleSoft ESA and Oracle EBS Projects, enhancing their already impressive capabilities for effective program and project management. By combining the program management capabilities of Oracle's EBS and PeopleSoft ESA products with the project scheduling and execution capabilities of Microsoft Project Server or Primavera, project and service-intensive organizations are able to more efficiently execute projects while maintaining appropriate project control and visibility. Impress for EPM enables these organizations to make the most of this powerful combination by automating critical cross-system business processes and data flows.
    Thanks,

  • Future Direction - How will Oracle make this product accessible?

How will Oracle make this product accessible to the user community? Is this the type of offering where we'll be able to download the product (for free) from OTN or Metalink? The beta release shows a lot of promising functionality.
    Thanks.

When this product goes production it will also be free. You will be able to download the production version from OTN.
In the future it may be bundled with the database, though this has not yet been decided.
Also, you will see this database functionality in future releases of JDeveloper, as they are both developed from the same JDeveloper IDE platform.

  • The Future/Direction of PHP at Oracle?

    I'm confused.
Oracle's statement of direction, http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/php/htdocs/php_ohs_sod.html , makes no mention of the partnership with Zend.
Zend for Oracle is based on PHP5.
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (for AIX) ships with PHP4.
Why the difference? (I was expecting the Zend for Oracle offering to be bundled into the 10g Release 2 product, clearly it is not so)

Our systems are very much database centric, a long evolution since the early 90's. Our 'first generation' web based solutions are largely based on modPL/SQL. This has served us well for delivering HTML based solutions.
We have recently developed a visually rich Flash application (display only), which retrieves data from our database using a SOAP interface implemented in PHP (Zend Core of Oracle on top of Oracle Application Server 9.0.4). It was relatively inexpensive to develop, and works well.
This success is leading us to down the path of using PHP for a wider set of solutions. Migrating some of the PL packages that build some rather complex HTML are possible candidates for implementation in PHP (as project work presents the opportunity).
One of the complexities that the OAS and ZCO configuration presents is the installation itself. We are also in the process of upgrading OAS to 10g Release 2, and we're having a couple issues with the ZCO part. Tighter integration would simplify the install, and improve the quality of the product partnership.
The main reason we went with Zend Core of Oracle is that from the research we did on OTN in the PHP technology area, it would appear that was the only option available that would best integrate with OAS 9.0.4.
It has taken us by surprise that Oracle is not actively integrating ZCO into it's product offering, much in the same way Oracle migrated its products to Apache from Spyglass, or brought Orion (OC4J) into the fold...or TopLink...the strategy seems to have shifted.

  • Future direction of XI

    Hi,
What is the Futhure direction of XI,which is related to Enterprise point of view, How it will be easier for them to implement the XI if they want to start the XI Implementioation.
Especailly Related to SCM and CRM.
    Thanks
    Amaresh

    Amaresh,
The biggest benefit the corp gets from the implementation of sap xi is it transitions the company from an proprietary standard to more of an open standards like java.
Hence the company can have their existing apps running on IBM WebSphere or weblogic or any other legacy system and this can be the bridge to bridge them into sap for their erp stuff.
i generally recommend using sap xi to any company who already has any existing app and dont want to take the trouble to port it into netweaver, as that would mean a learning curve for the developers and in that case the end might not justify the means.
if u still need some clarification..feel free to give me a call.
    Regards
    Ravi

  • Bsp table view - functionality . future direction

    hi bsp'er,
does anybody knows whether it is planned to make  bsp-extensions available that cover a functionality compareable to the ALV in abap or do we have do this stuff on our own.
i have seen a tableView in cprojects which actually has a bit more functionality than the one in standard bsp (r/3) environments, it's an plm bsp extension.????
what does other people / companies do to provide end user with such functionality, or are they even satisfied with the "as it is" ?????
    kind regards
    oliver

The following is a link to weblog on that provides the download portion of this solution (just one piece of what is being discussed) as a reusable BSP extension:
    /people/thomas.jung3/blog/2004/09/02/creating-a-bsp-extension-for-downloading-a-table
Now this is intentionally not linked to the tableView or the iterator.  This has advantages and disdvantages.
I too have had to create some of this additional functionality via iterators.  However I find that this still requires a lot of custom development for each solution.  Ideally I would like to create some sort of wrapper element for the tableView that has all the UI elements and processing for doing the things described in it already.  Then using this enhanced table control would be as easy as working with the ABAP ALV Grid.  However I just haven't had the time to work on such a complex project.

  • Seeking User Feedback on Future Direction for WebLogic Server Tools

My apologies for cross-posting, but I wanted to make sure that as many of WebLogic Server Tools users as possible see this blog posting and get a chance to express their opinions.

  • Future Direction of WebChannel

    Hello Everyone,
As of now CRM 7.0's WebChannel is based on Java/JSP/Struts technology and there are multiple options to host it - 1) As a website 2) Through the NetWeaver Portal as a Business Package.
Does anyone know if this is going to change in the next release or so? I've heard rumours that the WebChannel will be developed in WebDynPro-Abap technology (the newer light weight WDA). Is this true?
    Thanks,
    Kiran

Two reasons why Web Channel applications can not be developed using WD4A or simply WDA are:
Stateful applications are supported u2013 that is, if the page is changed and the required data remains intact so that you can access it at any time throughout the entire application context.
Note that stateless applications are not possible.
In B2B, B2C and other scenarios, except for the Basket / Order process, rest of the entities such as Catalog, Order Status etc. are Stateless by design. There are several reasons why they have to be stateless.
    The second reason is:
Web Channel applications are usually customer facing, are pixel perfect and web rich applications. By design, the view components should be capable of being enriched the way we want using any available internet techniques, such as HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and Web 2.0 etc.
WD4A has severe limitations in this front.
So, though I am not sure of the roadmap of the SAP Web Channel applications, I am sure WD4A will not be used unless WD4A capabilities change drastically to cover those two aspects I have mentioned about.

  • Future Of Skype

I am about to commit my business to sign up hundreds (and eventually thousands) of Skype paid accounts, running on Linux machines. Before making such a committment, I have been trying to contact Skype to determine future directions, now that Microsoft has acquired Skype. It seems whichever weblink I try, I end up at Tech Support.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO CONTACT THE SKYPE SALES TEAM, OR BUSINESS SALES?
    My questions for them are:
How long will the Linux version of Skype be supported into the future?
Microsoft has disabled access to SkypeKit for developers. Will the Skype Developer Program be reinstated in the future? What are Microsoft's plans for developers?
Will the Skype Developer Program support Linux, or will Skype be heading towards Windows only solutions from now on?

    Hello Allen,
I sent a further email to you at [email protected], but perhaps it has not come through to you. So I am repeating it here in case this is the correct procedure to remain in touch ....

    Hi Allen,
Thanks very much for this information.
Our devices run Ubuntu, and we have written an application in Python, using Skype4Py (https://github.com/awahlig/skype4py). Skype4Py manipulates the standard Skype Client through the Skype API. So when you say the Desktop API will stop working later this year, can you please clarify what this means:
Does it mean that new versions of the Skype Linux Client will no respond to API calls?
Will our many many devices out there running the current version of the Skype Linux Client suddenly stop working. Will the currently Skype Linux Client continue to respond to API calls?
Thanks for your help, as this is vital information for our business.
