Future in SEM.....
Hi.
Im a FICO & SD , Consultant. But in my new Job I have to develope other area in SAP consulting, as a added value.
Im thinking SEM is an option.
Im read some about it: (Overview-BW SEM- & a little in its five components)
I would like some information about his future:
SEM vs BW or another new components?,
How is SEM in the market?,
Is SEM representative Module in SAP?,
Which module, could be better to starting?
Thanks a lot.
Hi Neo,
At present I am on SEM Project, and we have implemented SEM for two company codes and last one is in progress..
You, being a FICO and SD consultant, as I understood that, SEM is more into
BPS, Management Cockpit and CPM where, consultant are expected to have
very through understanding of business process in all the areas of FICO ,
PP, MM ( includin inventory ) and ofcourse SD..for you this would be right choice..
As far as market is concern, it seems to me that, the near future for SAP would be
going for SEM where it includes of various planning and strategic analysis and performance measurement ( which is known as ) measure builder and many more..
so, if you decide to come into SEM better get some idea of BW/SEM components
along with your R/3 exp.
Good luck..
Cheers,
Pattan.

NF:
1055401 Subcontracting Returns doesn't find reference Nota Fiscal
NF-e:
1175538 NF-e Reference between NF and NF-e
1238765 NF-e: Returns for Subcontracting - Error 8B287
1257933 NF-e: Reference NF not found by return for subcontracting
1288925 NF-e: References between NF-e and non NF-e
1356952 NF-e: Returns for Subcontracting - Error 8B260

Analysis Authorization with SEM-BPS
Hi,
We have performed technical upgrade from BW 3.5 to BI 7.0. We want to migrate to BI 7.0 functionality phase wise.
We have SEM-BPS and now we want to migrate to Analysis Authorization of BI 7.0.
Once we have igrated to Analysis Authorization, will there be any impact on SEM-BPS? Can we still use SEM-BPS with New Analysis Authorizations? We do not want to move to BI-IP in near future?.
Please advise.
Best Regards,
URDear UR,
Iu2019m going to try helping you,
In difference of reporting functionality, in planning, the data of an InfoCube is not just read; it is also changed or created.
There are two planning tools in BI: BW-BPS (Business Planning and Simulation), and BI Integrated Planning.
There are two main tcode: BPS0 and RSPLAN
There are three authorization objects to manage Integrated Planning:
S_RS_PL_ADMIN - Planning Administrator
S_RS_PL_PLANNER u2013 Planner
S_RS_PL_PLANMOD_D u2013 Planning Modeler (Development System)
The main object in the planning scenario is InfoCube real-time, where can available writing in small package that arrive in parallel. In some cases the security requirements for reporting and planning can be merging. In this case you need authorization object for checking planning, as authorization object above, and you need authorization object for using a query for planning requires as S_RS_COMP.
In addition to authorization for displaying data, the authorizations for changing data you need analysis authorization (the analysis authorization focus in the InfoProvider, no in Aggregation Level).
In your analysis authorization design for reporting stuff, you should use in 0TCAACTVT characteristic 03 value. In the planning stuff, you should use in 0TCAACTVT characteristic 03 and 02 values. As explain following:
Using the characteristics 0TCAACTVT (activity), you can restrict the authorization to different activities. Read (03) is set as the default activity; you must also assign the activity Change (02) for integrated planning.

How can BW/SEM consultant transition to BPC
I am an experienced SAP BW/SEM-BPS consultant and have more than 10 engagement in this space.
I went thru the outlooksoft admin I and II courses.
Is this enough to break into BPC ?. Also looking at BPC 7 demo it looks like we need both BW and outlooksoft skillsets in the future. Any opinions ?.
Any leads will help.
Will work free for a BPC engagement.The BPC versions 7 for MicroSoft and NetWeaver will be out soon. Since you already have passed the courses, then the best thing to find is a project to explore assisting in building core functionality in BPC. In a project you may assume a role of defining reporting/input requirements and building the process with and for the customer. This will also lead to opportunities to construct logic for calculations, as defined by the customer requirements. I think the BW experience will play a part going forward with the BPC 7.0 NW edition, so if you have the means and time, I would learn the basics to begin. My expectation is that over time we will find the best methods for blending the BW technology with the BPC processes and capabilities, so the experiance will be useful several times over going forward. But there will also be cases where customers will continue to use the MS versions and need teams who understand the BPC environment and how the technology will continue to supoort and expand the business planning process. So, check with your consulting teams for opportunities. If you are a partner, sell the product and engage with SAP consulting to support the BPC implementation.

Having a JPanel 'float' semi-transparently over another component
I am a programmer of a java project for our company.
Managemnt decided that when a certain event happens, we need to 'semi-disable' a certain text area (in a JScrollPane), and have a floating message with a progress bar on top of this text area, but be semi-transparent, so you can still read the text under it.
(Basically, they want it to look like a html page with a floating, semi-transparent DIV, because that is how another group mocked it up).
I am trying to implement this, but am running into problems.
Here is what I have, below I'll tell you what is wrong with it.
* The purpose of this class is to have a scroll pane that can have it's contents partially covered by another panel
* while still being able to read both the original panel and the new covering content, and still being able to scroll
*the content under the covering panel.
public class JOverlayScrollPane extends JScrollPane{
private JPanel overlay = null;
private Insets overlayInsets = null;
private java.awt.AlphaComposite blend = AlphaComposite.getInstance(AlphaComposite.SRC_OVER, 0.50f);
private ComponentAdapter cl = null;
public void setOverlay(JPanel pan, Insets inset){
overlay = pan;
overlayInsets = inset;
if(cl != null){
cl = new ComponentAdapter(){
public void componentResized(ComponentEvent e){
resizeOverlay();
resizeOverlay();
repaint();
public void paint(Graphics g){
super.paint(g);
if(g instanceof Graphics2D && overlay !=null){
Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D)g;
// g2.setComposite(blend);
//overlay.paint(g2);
paintStuff(g,overlay);
private void resizeOverlay(){
if(overlay != null){
Dimension size = getSize();
int x = 0;
int y = 0;
if(overlayInsets !=null){
x = overlayInsets.left;
y = overlayInsets.top;
size.width = size.width - overlayInsets.left - overlayInsets.right;
size.height = size.height - overlayInsets.top - overlayInsets.bottom;
overlay.reshape(x,y, size.width, size.height);
overlay.doLayout();
overlay.validate();
private void paintStuff(Graphics g,Component c){
if(c != null){
c.paint(g);
if(c instanceof Container){
Container cont = (Container)c;
for(int i=0;i<cont.getComponentCount();i++){
Component cc = cont.getComponent(i);
paintStuff(g,cc);
}//end of overlay scroll pane(I am having problems, so for now, the alpha blend is commented out).
The first version didn't have the paintStuff() method (it just called paint). This just drew a big grey box, now of the sub-components of the passed in JPanel were drawing. I added the do layout and validate calls, without success.
Then I added the paintStuff call, and all the subcomponents now, draw, but they all draw at 0,0.
Questions
1. Is the the correct approach to do this, or sould I be playing with the glass pane or some other approach?
2. It seems that the overlay panel isn't being layed out / doens't paint it's children correctly. Is this because it isn't really part of the layout (i.e. it has no parent / is never added to a container) or am I just missing a step in 'faking' adding it to a layout?
3. I'm sure I could just override paint and paint my own stuff (hand draw the text and a progress bar), but I would really like to put everything on one JPanel as what we want to display my be different in the future. I know that I manually ahve to call repaint on this scrollpane if one of the components on the overlay JPanel change in appearence (the progress bar especailly), and that they won't get events (I don't care about this as they are all non-interactive for now). Is this a viable approach, or is there a better way to do this?
ThanksWow, good answer.
I never concidered using a root pane other than as it is used in JFrame.
Very cool answer.
Here is my origional code modifed with JN_'s idea, which cleaned up a repaint issue I was having.

Hello All,
Can you please let me know the differences between SEM BCS and SAP BPC. What I know is SEM BCS is an SAP product for Financial Consolidation (Legal and Management). SAP BPC is the new product taken over from Outlooksoft. It also features the consolidationa and planning functionalities. Can you please suggest which is a better product.
Regards
VikramHi Vikram
Please use Search Functionality in the forum, there are many threads answering your question.
Based on my experience, in current versions BPC 5.1 has lot of limitations to be used as full consolidation product.
It has good features and will be developed in future releases as complete consoliation product.
From my understanding, till then BCS will only be preferred for consolidation.
Thanks and Regards

Hi all,
Has someone configured SEM-BCS without the carry forward task.
And can you share the pros and cons of doing this?
Thanks, AlvinThanks Greg, Dan, Thibaud for your responses. he are very much appreciated.
I wanted to attract some debate/discussion on the matter. Personally, I am not convinced that carry forward is not used.
However a bit more context. My client is using SAP PBF and PBF can pass on Opening balances to BCS. BTW this relates to budgets more than actuals.
There are the usual related party eliminations and possibly consolidation of investments so that BCS can deal with them in a variety of reporting hierarchies.
Other requirements include
- budget may be increased/decreased 2-3 times a year
- these increases/decreases are captured as adjustments for the relevant period. This changed budget (sometimes for the same fiscal year) is the authority for spending
- there are 4 years of estimates (say Est1, Est2, Est3, Est4 representing each future year) and they do not roll on to each other. In other words, Est1 do not roll into est 2 and est 2 do not roll into est 3 and so on. Rather est 1 roll into est 1, est2 into est 2, either in the same fiscal year or the next fiscal year (it sounds confusing hence I hesitated to put that with my initial question)
So far, based on other conversations, I have gathered the following:
- Not generally done in BCS where opening balances are required
- Documents posted in the previous year will not inverse
- Consolidation adjustments relating to previous years will have to be re-posted in current period. Flexibility to report these adjustments for a particular period will be lost.
- Additional items/subitems will be required for opening balances, as compared to opening balances captured in period 00,
- Many BEx reports (probably some reclasses and allocations) that are looking for the beginning balances in the period 000 will start malfunctioning.
- Copy Tasks (this will used for different consolidation versions) may end up with incorrect data if they require previous period results
- Not being able to close book for the year?
Anymore input would be appreciated.
Cheers, A -
Diference between R/3 ECCS & SEM BCS
<b>Hi all,
We ve to compare the two systems R/3-ECCS and SEM-BCS in detail as we are goin for consolidation using SAP. Could you people suggest something regardin this.
It will be very nice if you could suggest some parameters based on which these to be compared.</b>The main difference is that you don't have to pay additional licence fees for R/3 EC-CS, because it is part of R/3. As long as you didn't buy mySAP ERP or the mySAP Business Suite you would have to buy an additional SEM license to use SEM BCS.
As far as I know, R/3 EC-CS offers all necessary functionality for consolidation and is a sophisticated product.
But in the end, SEM BCS will be the path to the future, even if the implementation might be not so easy today. -

<b>Hi all,

Could you all suggest some thing regarding this.
It will be very nice if you could suggest some parameters based on which these two are to be compared.
Regards,
Feddin.</b>Feddin,
in EC-CS you have only one consolidation unit object. So if you are dealing with a matrix org then you have to compound for example company code and profit center into a CS unit object. This potenially creates a lot of units and therefore maintenance overhead.
With BCS you can keep the two dimensions separated and all combinations are valid (without the need to create them).

Time dependent hierarchy structure in SEM-BPS
I want to use a time dependent hierarchy structure in sem BPS to make combination chek and proposal in a layout.
I have manage a relation of type hierarchy (based on this hierarchy) in the characteristic relationship tab page of my planning area.
I open my layout to make entries in the future (next fiscal year) but the system doesn't propose me the datas valide for the next fiscal year in my hierarchy but the datas validate today.
There is a key date in the master data tab page of the planning area but it seems to have only effects on attributes with validity dates but not with hierarchy with time dependent hierarchy structure.
Thanks for your help.Hi,
The key data that you enter in the planning area is only for time dependent characteristics and attributes. For the hierarchies in the characteristic relationships the current data is used.
If you still want to use a time dependent hierarchy for modeling the characteristic relationships you could use a characteristic relationship type exit. In the exit you can read the hierarchy with the proper date.

SEM-BPS vs myFinancial (business Analytics)
hello
I have read in a book that the planing functions are distributed. e.g. balance planing is in SEM-BPS and the profit planning is in Financial Analytics (business Analytics).
So where I can find a overview? or can somebody write me this.
And I want to ask. If we have Netweaver 4 (included BPS) can we planning balance or can we palnning profit?
Please tell me why.
I hope somebody can help me. I'm very confused.
thanksI can also only guess, but the xApps Analytics focus is "Analytics", while many Business Packages are more on the transactional side. So I guess we will still se both in the future.

Web Cockpit developent (SEM-CPM or VC or something else)
This question is intended for SAP Development team or Product management team. We are looking to make a strategic decision about the tool set to build BI Cockpit on the Web.
SAP has competing technologies, which can deliver the cockpit on the web and as a customer we need to make a choice that is right for at least next 3-5 years. We do not want to develop the cockpit using the technology that is not moving ahead with SAP development.
Our current environment: BW 3.5, EP 5.0 system. Plan to upgrade EP 6.0 in next 3 month.
As per my understanding, following are the tools that can be used for development of web cockpit.
1) Web Application Designer with or without any Java scripting.
2) SEM-CPM (Corporate Performance Monitor).
3) BSP (Business Server Pages) /HTMLB -
4) Visual Composer with EP.
Customers business team has seen SEM-CPM and inclined to use that. As a IT team we want to choice the right tool set.
Following are my questions:
1) SEM-CPM: Does it have good foot print at SAP Customer base? Is it good tool to develop the Cockpits as primary tool set? Is SAP developing this technology in the future? I have not seen any updated white paper or documentations in service.sap.com after 2003.
OR
2) Visual composer is the right tool. Visual composer allows the BW and Non BW Data presentation. For our purpose, all data will be in BW and BW queries will be the only source for the cockpit.
As IT team, we want to avoid using Java Script or other programming process because of the support & maintenance issues involve.
Please help and provide comment or suggestions.Hi,
SEM-CPM is not a very flexible tool. We have to live with its limitations. We cannot customise to suit client needs. There are limitations in chart types also. If customer uses excel based charts for metrics currently, check whether they are possible thro' CPM. Please also check the latest version of SEM-CPM.
I would request to considering other alternatives as suggested ike Web cockpit based on Web Application Designer with or without any Java scripting.likes or BSP (Business Server Pages) /HTMLB or VC (not worked on this).

I've been looking into making semi-transparent buttons and
was wondering what you might suggest.
Site reference is here: www.ewdcorp.com/index2.html
Note: For each different main page category there is a
different banner image and for the time being I have created many
many jpgs for each page to portray the allusion of transparency. I
don't think this is the ideal way of doing it because there are so
many images involved and updating the BG image means updating the
main page images as well.
From what I understand there are three ways to creating
transparences on the web: .gif, .png and possibly flash?
GIF - widely used and supported, however, gifs only have a
colour palette of 256 colours and they don’t actually do
semi-transparent pixels only 100% transparent pixels. It converts
the semi-transparent pixels into one solid colour. Not going to
work for my case.
PNG – Has a wider colour palette and uses alpha masks
to achieve semi-transparent pixels, down fall is that it is not
widely supported and by that I mean Explorer does not support .png.
They just come up as grey boxes.
Flash – I’m not actually sure if flash is the
answer I’m looking for, I was looking for more information on
it and came across Murray’s reply to a flash related topic
and this seems to not be generally a very good option…
If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
not be spidered
3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
will those users
do?
4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons, just so
you'll know....
So I’d love to know if there is another solution that
you would recommend me looking into or if using jpgs like I have is
the best I could hope for. I have made it pretty easy for myself to
update for the future but of course not having to update it would
be even easier and more convent so if there was a way I’d
love to be enlightened!!! If I've made an error of my brief
discriptions of .gif, .jpg or flash please let me know!

PNG is the only reliable solution. GIF is dead and doesn't
support alpha
transparency, JPEG doesn't support any transparency at all
and Flash is
never a solution for navigation or any other important
content.

PNG support is good enough. The only problem these days is IE
6, but
there are workarounds available. Should be pretty easy in
your case.
IE 7 and all modern browsers support PNG quite well.

In fact all you need for your buttons is only _one_
semi-transparent PNG
(or maybe a second one if you also want to have a nice hover
effect with
another color). The button texts can and should be done as
that - text,
preferably in an unordered list. The rest would be just CSS
and a little
fix for IE 6 (google for "IE PNG fix" and "conditional
comments").

Difference between SAP BPC & SEM BCS
Hi Gurus,
What is the difference between SAP BPC & SEM BCS And throw some light on both?
Thanks in Advance,
Sandy.Hi Sandy,
The functionality in BPC mainly 1) Planning 2) Consolidation
1) Planning : You can have any type planning scenario. Ex.: Sales planning. Based on the actual previous data
we will have some projection reports on the sales for future sales, so we can have planning scenario here . We can change
the projections as per our requirement for any number of times.
Ex 2: HR Planning. Based on the market condition we have recruitment planning, based on the actual data (Existing Emp.)
Ex 3: Accounts Expenditure planning like this we can have planning forecastings.
2) Consolidations : We can consolidate the group company, companies with currency translations, allocations, Inter Unit
eliminations, consolidated P&L accounts & Consolidated Balance Sheets are possible in this.
But where as in BCS you can do only 2 part. The first part is not possible. Hence I personally suggest you to learn BPC NW
it will be more useful. BPC is now going to integrated with BO (Buss. Objects) also from 7.5 ver onwards.
I hope this may help you.

B.S.RAGHU
