Future of Sun One IDM

Hello All,
I have been working in Java for past 6+ years. I have been told by my employer to shift to Sun IDM. Is it the right choice to go for or is the Sun Java Architect the right choice?
Thanks
Sachin

Your question shouldn't be how is the market for Sun IDM, but how is the market for IDM. It's still strong but leveling off a bit now that companies are caught up. But that's not the end. Identity Management involves a lifecycle, not just a product.
There's no coding involved. This is integration. The "language" involved in Sun IDM is XML and rarely some Java coding.
If you're looking to do hardcore Java, Identity Management isn't for you, regardless if Sun or another vendor. Moving to Identity Management is a career change, so I'd think about it if I were you. I would ask your boss why your told to move to IDM. Is there a project that is coming that involves IDM ? If so, I'd gather some requirements to see which vendor is the fit. IBM, Novell, Oracle, CA, and a few others even MSFT have IDM products.

  • IdM setup  - LDAP Sun One Vs Microsoft AD

    All:
I am attempting to configure IdM for our landscape. The LDAP templates provided are all for Sun One directory server.
    The configuration guide says
"Templates for the Sun One directory server are provided. Templates for other directory servers are not available. You can adjust the tasks and jobs for other directory servers to
meet your needs on a project base."
How does one do this? Is it just copy the template and rename it or is there anything else involved?
    Thanks
    S.

    Hi Shabnam,
after copying and renaming the template you have to adjust some settings and mappings but this is not a big deal.
Settings: Check the base entries and filters for entries and groups
Mappings: Some attributes may be used differently. Especially, check the usage of cn and uid.
    Kind regards

  • Sun ONE Studio vs. NetBeans IDE 3.5

Now that IBM's VisualAge for Java is dead, I have been looking for a replacement IDE. I have been totally frusturated by the lack of basic information on IBM's Websphere -- their own specialists had a hard time answering elementary questions -- and the "upgrade" for VA 4, which cost $100 originally, could be $1000 to $3500 depending on what piece of Websphere you get.
Well, so I looked at Sun ONE Studio 5.0 -- then noticed that SDK 1.4.2 was out (i had the beta). I'm doing the trial period of ONE Studio, then I get NetBeans 3.5 as part of the SDK download. NetBeans is FREE and Sun ONE Studio 5.0 is $695, and "based on NetBeans."
"Based on?" Looking at NetBeans 3.5 IDE, I don't see what Studio offers that you don't get in NetBeans. Is there any paper or comparison anybody has written comparing the two packages?
Both are great pieces of software, but what do I pay $695 for?

you got integration with more wizards, deployment tools and application server for both J2SE & J2EE development.
But it's a real shame and even scandal that this tool becomes commercial and so expensive.
So now, you don't have the choice and you have to pay for the Sun branded tool ! (except the J2ME one)
I had the weakness to believe that Sun and its Java wanted to have a important place in the open source or at least free software world !(clearly, it's the future ). But this aggressive(695$ !!!) commercial U-turn awakes me from my dream.
That's it for now, I return on my beloved Eclipse Platform and its plugins, digusted ...

  • Process.conf file not found after installing Sun One Portal Server 6.0

This extract is from the Sun One Portal Server development guide for logging error or logs in log file. This says that to generate the log, entry should be done to enable logging in process.conf file. I could not find any such file after installing Sun One Portal Server 6.0.
    Any help will be appreciated...
Reporting Errors to the Robot Log File
When problems occur, robot application functions should return an appropriate response status code (such as REQ_ABORTED), and they should also log an error inthe error log file.
To use the error-logging functionality, you must include the file log.h in thesdk/robot/include/libcs directory. After you have ensured that log.h exists in the correct place, you can use the cslog_error macro to report errors. The prototype is in the following format:
cslog_error(int n, int loglevel, char* errorMessage)
The first parameter is not currently used (may be used in the future) You can pass
    this as any integer.
The second parameter is the log level. When the log level is less than or equal to the log level setting in the file process.conf, the error message is written in the robot.log.

Since removing the log settings from magnus.conf failed to fix the problem, the log settings are probably not the source of the problem.
Did anything else - e.g. ColdFusion configuration changes - occur at about the same time you changed the log settings?

    Hi,
i am having an synchronization issue in sun one application server 8.1. the operating system is solaris 10. when the date in the system is changes to some future date in the coming year ie 2009 and after the date change , the deployment is done , then server instance is not synchronized ie the new files or the changes to the configuration file are not reflected to the server instance.
    y is this happening
can any one help me in this regard?

And just to make an unfounded guess: do you have to specify the debug port or the request port there? If it's the former, it'll stand in its own way.

  • Sun ONE Directory SDK for C support on RHAs 4.0 and Win 2003 R2

What version of Sun One Directory SDK supported on RHAS 4.0 and Windows 2003 R2.
    Please confirm.
    Thanks,
    Rahul

The C-SDK that will come with Directory Server Enterprise Edition 6 will support both RH AS 4 and Windows 2003.
But for today, I would say that the version in mozilla.org does support them.
We are currently contributing all of our changes, bug fixes and improvements to Mozilla.org and future versions of the Sun C-SDK will be directly built from Mozilla.org sources.

  • Can i setup a secure reverse proxy using sun one web proxy server and windows 2000?

I've tried this on IPlanet Proxy 3.6 and, after reading the documentation, realized that SSL is not supported on the Windows platform. So I'm asking if it is supported using Sun One Web Proxy Server

    Hi,
Yes, What you say is right.
"The NT and Windows 2000 versions of iPlanet Web Proxy Server 3.6 do not support SSL".
Sun One Web Proxy Server is as same as iPlanet webproxy server.
May be in future relase of proxy server SSL will be supported in Win2000.

  • Sun One 6.1 reverse proxy with multiple certs

We are using Sun One Web Server 6.1sp6 as a reverse proxy without the passthrough plugin. We also have multiple certs and not a global cert and what we are seeing is the data getting "staged" on the web server before moving on to the destination (which obviously halves throughput). Some research tells us that this staging is happening because it needs to re-encrypt the packets for the next cert.
Is there any way besides having a global cert that we can get around this? Would using the passthrough plugin help?
    Thanks,
    Don

The thing is that it apparently doesn't do it on the fly, which is why I was wondering if the passthrough plug in would help. In other words, if I am sending a 10mb file through to the destination server (there's a weblogic server on the back end with a different cert that I want to do the real processing), the web server waits until it gets all 10mb then resends it. Seems it should do the encrypt/decrypt on a packet level to me.
As far as the config, I didn't set it up, I'm just trying to get it to work :)
Here are the configs, if it would help. If there's something set up wrong here, please feel free to point it out!
    Thanks,

  • Sun One Web Server 6.1 obsolescence

    Hi,
Could anybody say me when Sun has planified to "mark" the Sun One Web Server 6.1 as obsolete??? I mean, to supress the technical support.
    It's important,
    Th u very much!!!!!

There have been no announcements for when Web Server 6.1 might begin its End Of Life (EOL) process. It was released in 2003, however, so a likely safe assumption would be that it is nearing the end of its primary product life. I would expect that it will begin it's EOL cycle in the near future, but I would also bear in mind that Sun's EOL process provides many years of support after EOL begins in order to allow migration to a newer version.

The suggested way to replace netscape.ldap package is to use only JNDI calls, but maybe they can not fulfill all your needs.
By the way, you can get the source code for that package in Mozilla.org site.

    Hello Vinay,
when configuring multiple Ldap directories, There are a number of prerequisities that you need to
    consider.
For example, One prerequisite for Multi domains is that logon IDs must be unique across mutliple LDAP datasources. This will cause issue if duplicate IDs exist.
Please see the following Documentation and notes for more information on this.
Examples of Data Source Configuration Files - Identity Management - SAP Library
Example: Configuration of Multiple LDAP Data Sources - Identity Management - SAP Library

Please have a look at the above notes which documet this and also tells
you what to do in these situations.

I assume that you are referring to a brand new field on the second step that was not on the form of the first step. If this is the case, then you should put the field in a hidden block of the first steps form. Default values and Auto-population from shells/single record BPs only occur of the create step, even if they are not used on that step. As long as you put them on the create step (even in a hidden block) they should initialize.

    M.S. Veerendra-
This is a known incompatibility, described at:
    http://support.solarmetric.com/Ticket/Display.html?id=14082
Can you try the workarounds listed at:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=136&thread=499803&tstart=0&trange=15
and let us know if it works?
